Do you think we'll ever get new Dino Riders? I just discovered these and they're so badass but the old toys are really expensive now. It's also pissing me off that the cartoon only had 14 episodes. There is a lot of potential here
>>11769362Probably not. There's a lot of 80s toy lines where the toy-makers simply let all copyrights and trademarks expire from non-use. Since nothing has been done with the line since 1988, Dino Riders are most likely one of those dead brands. But it's possible for someone to come along and produce new ones if they wanted like a toy-maker is doing with Centurions.
Officially who knows. Rumor was Mattel was planning a legit revival, they put out a small set of micro stuff a few years ago much the way that they started bringing back MotU with random stuff prior to the big push with Origins. The rumor was that one Jurassic World Dominion wrapped up Dino Riders was going to show up for a bit. But the original plan for Dominion got pushed back by like a year due to Covid, and instead of a lengthy pause on the Jurassic franchise Koepp came up with the plan for Jurassic Rebirth which supposedly really excited people(why I don't know) and a Jurassic Pause went out the window. Unofficially there's a lot of dino rider esque stuff out there, but none of it nails both the aesthetic and the toy level fun the way the original line does. A ton of imaginext stuff is dino riders coded, there's the Cyberzoic stuff from Creative Beast/Beasts of the Mesozoic which is really just starting to actually come out, but it's expensive, riddled with QC issues and more ideal for display than any kind of play. There's the new Armorsaurs toys. There's indie stuff, like when shapeaways was still around a guy was making 3D printed dino riders style armor for a lot of easily available dino toys. There's Paleolords, an upcoming line of moveable minifigures with dino riders elements. There's PaleoRaiders, an upcoming line of 3D printed stuff that's modern takes on the dino riders, but no idea if that's actually going to come out at all.
>>11769376I forgot Playmobil and third party chinese lego both have several dino riders esque lines.
>>11769362Real sick of these boomer slop threads constantly begging for more of the same 80s sloppa, we have enough transformers and heman already

>>11769362Only Asians make cool stuff America is always some gay steven unvierse weenie crap for babies
unfortunately i think these would be too expensive to do properly these days unless they were significantly smaller, and you'd never get something like the t-rex or brachiosaurus on shelves again, it would need to be something along the lines of the star wars micro galaxy squadron with tiny mini figures
>>11769485bullshit, Armorsaurs are decently priced and mattel could any time go full dino warriors and make armor that could easily seat their Jurassic line the problem is no one up top has faith in a badass idea
>>11769362I think Dino Riders sucks. This and later tributes just feature generic museum dinos that wear REMOVABLE armor instead of it being molded in. Chomp Squad was more up my alley. They also wore separate armor, but at least they kept the helmets
>>11769492armorsaurs are nowhere as complex as classic dino riders, thats what im saying, they could not do them the same way

>>11769593Most of the replies disparaging Dino Riders likely come from the usual board troll. Even if they dont it wouldnt surprise me if the original poster is entirely unaware of the various built in gimmicks. Wind up boxes that allow the dinos the move, "realistic" dino eyes, Kenner Super Powers styled attack action, etc. It's a shame.
>>11769369Remind me what the source of this claim was. Was it the hasbro leak where in they confirmed the new CEO trashed decades worth of archived production material from molds to concept art? The idea that so much is just sitting idle despite being free for grabs just lights up my brain.
>>11769726>Wind up boxes that allow the dinos the move, "realistic" dino eyes, Kenner Super Powers styled attack action, basically what Japan makes and still does with zoids

Mattel has owned the rights to Dino Riders for many years and pic related is the only toy they've released. What really pisses me off is they are making some of the best dinosaur toys on the market in their Jurassic Park line right now they still refuse to do Dino Riders toys with those molds.

>>11771861>ed 3rd party vinyls what the fuck is this retard mouth breather take itas a original ip you fucking retard
>>11772059it IS an original IP. I just dont like that it's overpriced vinyl again
I like everyone saying how they don't like how it's overpriced vinyl like that somehow implies a choice not to support it. It's made in such low numbers, usually only available at international shows, and sold in lottery formats. It doesn't matter if you don't like it. They're selling out faster than they can make them for hundreds a piece. I literally cannot buy one and I've been trying for months since their release.
>>11771861I kinda agree. But noone stops Zuru/Moose to make them. You cant blame the artist to go the method he knows for art toys.>>11772166Well said! I hate that it is expensive and that it is vinyl too. But i agree that this is how they can make and sell them. I save the pictures, look at them and are appreciate it that someone made them.
It's really hard to out-do Dino Riders isnt it? It's already such an evergreen concept. If you cant beat them at their own game the end results just appear a little lackluster. Hell trying the same gimmick with marine life or miocene megafauna wouldnt be anywhere near bombastic enough.
>>11771985Indeed. It is quite clever to use existing dinosaur molds and make them into Dino Riders.
>>11772992>the same gimmick with marine life or miocene megafauna I think that it possible. The problem is just to get really cool animals. Dinosaurs seem to have a wider range of bodyforms and sizes. Dinosaurs just look much cooler. But at a certain point you get problems to have different dinosaurs for the customers to buy and care about.
I've been working on a toyline for several years now that's finally going to come out in a couple of months in limited capacity with a bigger roll out later in the year, you'll be able to do some light DR stuff with it with more planned if it does ok. Got James Groman, David White(one of the lead sculptors for super7), and Sam Costidell(one of the leads on McDonalds Happy Meal toys) to help design and sculpt it. >>11781984Those mammals for Dinoriders were really a strange choice. They already opened up with Dimetrodon and Placerias, but at least they were reptilian. But i think that DinoRiders were already declining.

What i dont understand is why they never used the Saurolophus body to make other Hadrosaurs. Or the Protoceratops for other reptilians.
>>11783630
>>11783608It's tough to say if it was "declining" without the retarded decisions of wave 3. Waves 1 and 2 were unequivocally successful, with wave 2 having even more items than wave 1, including the largest item of the line, and being successful in stores for over 2 years. Wave 3 came around and was smaller than either previous waves, so you definitely can say they were winding down, but who knows what would have happened if they had taken the budget for 4 brand new mammals and instead made 4 brand new dinosaurs and more interesting new characters than naked cavemen. That ice age shit was clearanced out for years, meanwhile the dinosaurs from s3 are the most difficult and sought after to find. Imagine if instead of the mammal garbage they made some of the newly discovered dinosaurs that were becoming popular at the time, like Spinosaurus and Oviraptor, or started making some underwater creatures like plesiosaurs and mosasaurs with sub like attachments? Would have been fucking kino.
>inb4 AI bitchingFuck off, this oviraptor is perfect
>>11783927>even ai recognizes modern toys are made of cheap plastic and would have minimal detail grim
>>11783684Honestly Wave 3 feels weird. 3 Dinosaurs and no new comic. Than the mammals with a new logo tag. It feels like they combined what they preplaned into one wave. Or had they had them ready and so added 3 dinosaurs to save the 3 expensive mammal molds. I mean the gear felt subpar and cheap. Just speculations.
>>11783927>that liopleurodonCute! CUTE! Even his jockey is adorable.
They really should have saved the miocene fauna for a seperate toyline. That entire last wave felt like the beginning of an unrelated toyline as it was, especially with those cavemen. That said is anyone else familiar with Mel Birnkrant's Invasion Earth concepts? He'd pitched the line to Tyco in the wake of Dino Rider's stumble. It's the same general premise, gimmick and all, but with a 50's/cold war aesthetic applied to the aliens and human militaries. You can just tell he had a blast with the alien designs.https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=0I7VcnutZSI&pp=ygUcbWVsIGJpcm5rcmFudCBpbnZhc2lvbiBlYXJ0aA%3D%3DYou can see the rest on his site.

>>11785661I agree with the mammals, especially with the cavemen minifigures. >>11783684I think that series 2 was too expensive. For the 1st series you got 7 different molds for 12 toys. In series 2 was 10 different molds for 10 toys.
>>11786058I can see why but they are just action figures. Kinda generic mutants and monsters.
>>11786491I think this was some fan project?
>>11785661Thanks for the rabbit hole. Surprised no one ever took a swing at this toyline in the era of indy developers and kickstarter. But the mars attacks, independence day, and tv show coming 8 years after the fact make me think this is a Jodorowsky's Dune situation where other companies who passed on the idea kept the concept art and repurposed / stole chunks of it for their own projects. Like, I know I've seen pic related's monster face before, perfectly recreated, I'm just blanking on where.

>>11787974The rock raiders meets dino riders approach was a good concept, but for some reason the actual dino designs here (and their armor) didn't really do it for me. I do love the rocky bases especially the one with the mine cart and the chained up dimorphodon though.
>>11788063They are a typical style. They try the best within this style and on how much the end product will cost.

>>11786058>>11786491>Be Sony>rape ghostbusters into the dirt>own Dinosaucers>refuse to even release the series on video, let alone digitalThe fuck is their problem?>>11786690Galoob sold the dinosaucer prototypes to some brazillian toy company (I want to say it was Glasslite). They were the only company to produce official Dinosaucers toys as a result. Yet due to their rarity and high demand in the global toy collecting market, they're next to impossible to get second hand. Show Toys (primarily a manufacturer of children's tricycles and baby dolls) then got the brilliant idea to produce these legally distinct ones. It's honestly very admirable even now.
>>11787947Birnkrant took alot of inspo from underground comix so it makes sense. I still wish the line had happened. Every single concept he shared was amazing. Same with the Animax line, which was basically MASK × Mad Max × Power Rangers.

It's a disheartening sight to behold.>why the crossover?Besides the shared scale, I believe the two lines would compliment each other well. I'm also just biased since I love both lines and wish to see more done with them. Ever since Takara kicked off their nu-Diaclone line and followed it up with Synergenex I've been obsessed with the idea of articulated Battle Beasts. Have them inherit all the diaclone bells and whistles like magnetic feet, but also just kit them out with guns and crazy vehicles.
>>11790537>Playmobil is one of the last western toy companies giving things 110%, and they're so rarely rewarded for it.Because kids preferences changed, more competition and subpar company leadership.>I believe the two lines would compliment each other well. I dont see that besides both have anthro characters. The gimmick and introducing more animal species kinda clash with DinoRiders. Thats like the ice age.
>>11791063Maybe so, it's hard to say when most kids are still permitted unfetter access to the internet. As for the crossover, I just really believe in it. Plus neither property has seen the light of day in ages. Maybe it could be handled i the same way MOTU Origins did its crossovers.
>>11792445Looks weird. They used several old equipments but it really isnt connected. But it illustrated the problem they had with wave 2. No new carnivore dinosaurus.Did you know that Fisher Price had some Dino Riders too? They did some Allosaurus!
>>11791404The kids just go for flashy and more action things. Thats why books<cartoons<videogames. And this applies for toys too.The crossover will be kinda hard when you look at the basic concept. It is just humans vs anthropomorphic Cretaceous–Paleogene boundary survivor species. So you either add new factions aka Battle Beast or integrate them. Both versions water the faction appearance down. I know that Fisher Price did some Battle Beast homage that would work as a Rulonian but you cant integrate every animal species.

>>11793245My idea was to assign distinct elements to both the Valorians and Rulons that would see them ally with the accompanying Battle Beast tribes. Maybe Krulos would be able to establish a supermajority among one or two of the tribes before attacking? Either way a wider range of new dinosaurs and battle beast vehicles would be great. I always thought a cyborg dinosaur mount could have been neat too. Something like a disembowelled triceratops retrofitted into a tank-like killing machine. Also, Dino Riders Imaginext would be the ideal means of bring the line back nowadays. I'm aware of many of these homage examples, but honestly with how much market share they've lost in the last few years, the brand could use a jolt of recongizable IP. Hell they could even make a Dino Riders × TMNT crossover in this scale.
>>11793262Man imagine if matty made an imaginext version of the pilotable mecha tyrannosaur from the lego series.
>>11793547I dont know Battle Beast that well, what tribes? Elements?I just dont see any overlapping in those IPs besides both have snakes, sharks, insects and croccodiles. One is action figure centric and the other is focused on dinosaur steeds.Imaginext really had alot of DinoRiders.

>>11793783Battle Beasts' factions were seperated into tribes based off elements (fire, water, wind, etc). It played into this needlessly overcomplicated rock, paper, scissor game baked into the line. Most kids just liked it becauss the heat of your fingers would reveal the secret element your given beasts were alligiant to. Really I just think it'd be cool more than anything else. Mini-monster guys riding dinosaurs, it's simple! Having said that MIMP and Battle Beasts would be cool too.
>>11793886Imaginext was really firing on all cylinders in the mid 2010's.

>>11794400>Or just give them Dinosaur steeds instead of crossover both lines.I'm happy with that compromise!>MIMP and BattleBeasts would work as a collectible line thoIt pains me to think we've lived through the blindbag mania of the 2010's and not once were either properties utilized to capitalize on it. >>11795767My idea was to bump up the articulation on both figures, but also scale up the Battle Beasts a hair so they look like heavier duty combatants compared to the Rulon foot soldiers. However, some Rulons would get Battle Beast styled bodies. The figures are different but I believe thry can work together. I've seen BB customs using heads off everything from Lego Star Wars figs to other blindbag guys.
>>11795773You can tell the entire design process of the Dino Riders was motivated by the rule of cool. The entire Rulon faction is nothing but creatures five year olds find cool. I wish the Valorians had their own answers to this, hence my enthusiasm for the BB collab. Just imagine them accompanied by gorillas or tigers in new matching colors.
>>11796838>>11796836>>11796829>>11796827Now I'm left to wonder if the Cadillacs and Dinosaurs line would have done any better if the humans were designed and scaled to the same design specifications of the Valorians. Not that I disliked what we got mind you, just surprises me they brought over the dinos like they did. You'd think they would have atleast tried repainting those old molds.
>>11796840The cavemen are so fugly. Was there an effort to explain them in the toyline lore? Far as I know they just put them out without much fanfare.
>>11796974They made an episode about it. They reactivated their time portal thing and they brought some animals with them. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xuny_jBzizUAnd it seems they could have looked much different if someone from the cartoons were involved.
>>11797070I didnt realize they made that many episodes, I only ever saw the first five. Man the cartoon designs are alot more palettable. Way more rough and tumble. You can tell the sculptors were aiming for museum specimen accuracy with their sculpts but I think boys would have honestly preferred something cartoonier. Pic sort of related.
>>11796969You probably want a look like >>11793245. But you cant make them too much to look like bulky soldiers. Otherwise you dont need the dinosaurs and lessen Krulos intemidating look.I looked them up and Killer Carp, Horny Toad, Webslinger Spider, Crusty Crab, Sawtooth Shark, Icky Iguana and Chameleon could work as a Rulon species.Dont know if Octillion Octopus and Cutthroat Cuttlefish could work, i guess you need some water units than.>>11796972Dont know if ants and locusts are a kids favourites first choices. Than i would go for spiders and scorpions. I just cant see any animals on the Valorians side. In the end it is humans vs mutans.
>>11796973Probably to target the classic action figures target group. If they had made them smaller the vehicles would be cheaper and could include more Dinosaurs. But the comic and cartoon focus so much on the characters it could disrupt the synergy with the toys.
>>11797082Neanderthalers in colthings would be much better for the look of the toys. You just got weird looking dudes you would never expect to ride and shooting lasers.
>>11797138Yeah, the imaginext design is pretty spot on to what I'm after. I'm all for Octopus and Cuttlefish making the cut since the original Riders was devoid of any marine species to my knowledge. You could pair those guys up with Icthyosaurs, Archelons, Pleisiosaurs, etc. I'd also say ants and locusts get a pass for being "bugs". Anything with big eyes, mandibles, antennae usually does well with kids. The Valorans wouldnt look that out of place besides other mammals I think.
>>11797144Fair point there>>11797148Yeah exactly! The cavemen they delivered just look so offputting and nonthreatening, like a class of special needs kids.
