Playmates currently has no plans to release the Re-Ignition figures of Squatt and King Sphinx that had been previously displayed at Toy Fair, sadly leaving Baboo without his other half for the foreseeable future.Previous Thread: >>11739505
>>11771199Oh, what? What's that? Playmates fucked another toy line up? Oh noooo, that never happened before!
>>11771199good
>>11771199why is this show so cursed to never get a complete roster of villains?
>>11771339its a 30 year old series let it die
>>11771343no, it can die once they finish the roster a single time
>>11771346nah its dead
>>11771199This is what you get for thinking the Playmates toys were "good"
how do you fail harder than hasblow lightning collection
>>11771339retailers don't want them.
>>11771394>adult focused toyline for a property that's only relevant with 40 year oldsvs>child focused toyline for a property that's only relevant with 40 year oldsgosh
>>11771343You hear that, everybody? Toy lines for 30-year-old shows need to die. Everyone wrap up Ninja Turtles, Transformers, GI Joe, He-Man, Thundercats, Ghostbusters, etc.
>>11771548Those are actually good, though
>>11771199We dont need Sphinx since we have one already. But this new line has nothing anyway
>>11771394They’re selling zords rangers and roleplay items just fine
It will feel so satisfying once Playmates finally folds without the TMNT license.
I guess it's just a matter of time before this meets the same fate....
>>11771548>Everyone wrap up Transformersthose are actually relevantTMNT has its last chance.others-yeah i dont know who is a fan of those these days
>>11771651they'll do a small exclusive run of the complete thunder megazord, then cancel the single red dragon release
>>11771651Why would you want to buy this? It looks like shit.
Why? Is this line not doing well?
>>11771753Nope
>>11771753There's no way it could be. Who would buy this stuff? Those automorphing figures rotted on store shelves back in 1994 when they originally came out because they were hideous. They look even dumber 30 years later.
>>11771783>Those automorphing figures rotted on store shelves back in 1994 when they originally came out because they were hideous. This isn't how I remember it, they were easily the best loved Ranger figures out there. The 8'' figures were quiclky forgotten when they came out because the morphing was like half the appeal of the show. The smaller, non morphing Gokin based figures were seen as cheap versions packed in with vehicles and things as a cost saver.>They look even dumber 30 years later.these new ones do look worse, even with some developments. The more they engineer these sorts of figures, the worse they end up looking. Smaller heads, bodies too big, legs too wide. Ever since Zeo they got progressively more awkward looking. And even Bandai's roided out stuff still looks more proportionate than the dumpy Hasbro and Playmates stuff
Bruh this shit has actual dust on it at every Walmart in the country. I partially blame Walmart for the fact that they seem to have no fucking clue what a sale is. Its either msrp or clearance(tagged at msrp for a month) with no inbetween which is so fucking autistic
>>11771783>The most successful Power Rangers toys ever made rotted on store shelves back in 1994Confirmed zoomer who has no idea how popular those things were back in the day. The only MMPR figures that peg warmed back in the original run were the movie ones, and that's likely because they looked nothing like the movie suits. The show had to invent Metallic Armor to try to get people to buy them.
>>11771801Well, no. The movie figures didn't sell because most kids dropped the show like a rock when they got rid of Thuy, Walter, and Jason. It was over by 1995.
>>11771753They say it is. https://toy-wizards.com/2026/02/15/toy-fair-2026-playmates-keeps-power-rangers-still-morphenominal-after-all-these-years/?ampAs usual, I blame any problems they're having on WalMart.
>>11771578We already have a Squatt, too. But these were going to be in the 5" scale, which have never been done before, which was the main draw.
>>11771807Obviously kids would have aged out of watching it either way but have to wonder how differently things would have gone down if saban wasn’t so fucking cheap and gave the actors better pay.
>>11771752Your ancestors looked like shit and yet plantation owners bought them.
>>11771659I haven't kept up with the turtles franchise since the 2012 series was very none Nickelodeon. Are the new shows so bad that TMNT are irrelevant again?
>>11771869>retard ass Boco believes Playmateswhat a shocker
>>11771807Kinda crazy that MMPR mania really lasted a year. The whole franchise lives off of 1993/94
>>11771904The toys based on Mutant Mayhem and accompanying show sold so poorly Playmates finally lost the license and Paramount has already greenlit the next live action reboot with the sequel likely DOA.
>>11771807Season 3 was the worst. Great zords and new mooks with the Tengu, but it's very stupid and goofy. Like too much even for a kid's show. It was just as bad if not worse than Beetleborgs
>>11771965Yeah, I don't know what happened. I don't know if they got new writers or new directors or the Ranger actors were just tired of the roles (or all three), but the acting is noticeably worse in Season 3 than it had been in the first two seasons. Thank god the villains made up for it by becoming Married With Children In Space.
>>11771967They likely used a large chunk of the budget for the movie.
>>11771970How would that affect the acting?
>>11771807>most kids dropped the show like a rock when they got rid of Thuy, Walter, and JasonNo they didn't. MMPR's popularity was consistent throughout season 2 and the hype train was very high leading up to the movie release. After the movie it did seem to take a dip, and after Amy Jo left it dropped off substantially, but there wasn't an immediate impact caused by the season 2 cast change because Tommy and Kimberly were the most popular characters. Kerrigan Mahan (Goldar's voice actor) has told a story of Austin coming to him seeking advice, and Kerrigan told Austin that without Amy Jo as part of the strike he was in trouble. 26:23 mark if the link doesn't take you there.https://www.youtube.com/live/92nd_tJj82Y?si=sivbHjIQXpdQrP_T&t=1583
>>11772017>the hype train was very high leading up to the movie releaseI think bad toy offerings played a big part in MMPR's decline. Half the reason season 1 was such a hit is because the toys were awesome, and season 2 continued that. Then you get to the movie and the figures don't even look like the suits, nor do they have the popular Automorphin gimmick. They're just shiny meh figures of the TV suits. No roleplay toys were released for any of the movie's gear, not even a shiny movie Morpher with Ninja Coins. The Zords felt like big downgrades. Tommy goes from an electronic dragon, to an electronic tiger which transforms into a warrior mode, to a bird with the electronics from the Japanese release gutted out of it. Red Ranger went from a tyrannosaurus, to a flying dragon with a transforming warrior mode which was cool enough to get a solo release, to a small arm forming ape with 2 POA.Those same unimpressive Zords being rolled out repackaged for season 3 certainly didn't help things. Yeah season 3 eventually got the Shogun Zords, but those weren't great toys either. The articulation was too limited to make them cool figures on their own, and as far as Zords go they're very samey. Then you have a straight re-release in Titanus. Ninjor was really the only cool season 3 toy.Even the season 3 villain figures were very "who cares?" You got an off-model Tenga, which was technically from the movie line but ended up getting rolled into the season 3 assortment. You got a badly painted Rito who came with a bone gun instead of his sword. You got Master Vile in two scales, but he was a late season 3 character so most people didn't care about his figures for the majority of the season. Vampirus was the only monster of the day figure released from the actual third season of MMPR, the rest of them were either from the Alien Ranger saga or weren't adapted at all. Also zero roleplay toys for season 3, no playset, the same 8" Ranger figures (but they talk now).
>>11772017>>1177207730 years and this is all power fags have to bitch about
>>11772080Dead toy lines will cause that
>>11771793Only black and blue went on clearance at the store where I work. I thought that was odd and kinda funny. I wish playmates had not gone with the flip gimmick first but it's done now.
>>11772077>The Zords felt like big downgrades. Red Ranger went from a tyrannosaurus, to a flying dragon with a transforming warrior mode which was cool enough to get a solo release, to a small arm forming ape with 2 POA.Not much BoA could do at the time because that's how their Kakuranger counterparts were. At least Tommy didn't go from Tigerzord to Crane Ninjazord which is the mecha his color counterpart, NinjaWhite, got.
>>11772196NinjaWhite went from White Kark, Battle Kark to God Kark. Kakuranger never having a proper 6th Ranger made things tricky when Saban adapted season 3.
>>11772009nta, and it's not a budget thing, but I think the movie made a lot of them burn out on the roles. Amy Jo Johnson was leaving and Karan Ashley didn't want to stick around much longer. Steve Cardenas only lasted one more season. I think the only one who would've stuck around through the entirety of Turbo or a followup is Johnny Yong Bosch because he seems really easy going and didn't seem bothered much about working more or less.
>>11771659>those are actually relevantpfft ok, tell that to Transformers One and the ;ast 11 years of cartoons. It survives only because of what paypigs TF fans are. TF fans are a dying breed and they don't know it, there's likely no real new fans from the last 11 years. It's like Children of Men or 17776, it's over and all that's left are the preexisting fans.
>>11772196The could have not taken the electronics out of the Falconzord, making an already downgrade of a Zord an even worse toy.
>>11772234They did that to cut costs. >downgradeSaban Brands did what they could since Tsubasamaru never belonged to any particular Kakuranger. He'd show up whenever he wished. If they'd followed Kakuranger more accurately then Tommy would've started with White Shogunzord instead.
>>11772077>Even the season 3 villain figures were very "who cares?" You got an off-model Tenga, which was technically from the movie line but ended up getting rolled into the season 3 assortment. Vampirus was the only monster of the day figure released from the actual third season of MMPR, the rest of them were either from the Alien Ranger saga or weren't adapted at all.It still blows my mind that the 8" Evil Space Aliens didn't have Rito and instead gave us Calcifire, who wasn't even adapted into MMPR/MMAR, and Silent Knight, which wasn't even an OPTION to be adapted since he never had a definitive fight against the Kakurangers (he'd always land a few blows and then retreat), never grew and fought the Zords, never had a mutant monster form, and was a human character who went around with his helmet/mask off 90% of the time anyway. I know we had Scorpina and obviously Rita, but someone like Silent Knight wouldn't have fit anywhere into Season 3. It's also always bugged me that they took Master Vile, whose defining feature is that he's a huge motherfucker, and made him the shortest figure in the wave.
>>11772349Oh yeah, Rito's rifle is because it's on the concept art of his Sentai counterpart. It was never seen in Kakuranger. Hakumenrou having a PR toy is still funny to me. His longer fights were against NinjaWhite for plot reasons.
