So we're getting the first official American WonderFest at Momocon. Anyone going?I like the idea of a US WonFes but no idea if there's the same garage kit culture in the states as there is in Japan.
its gonna be hilarious and cringey and full of horror stories
>>11781066It will also have cool figure reveals though, so that's what counts.
>>11781065It's like a 4 hour drive away from me so I thought about it. But still kind of a long drive that I don't want to do. and I'm guessing all the figs and merch there will be overpriced because of convention markup. Plus I loathe cosplay whores and I don't want to see them there. And I would have gone alone since I'm a loser so with all that I just can't imagine it being a very enjoyable experience. If I had friends to go with maybe it would've felt more worth it.
>>11781124Also not trying to turn this into a tariff thread but this feels like the worst time to do such a convention in the US because of that
>>11781065>no idea if there's the same garage kit culture in the states as there is in Japan. At best, you will find a moderate array of fidget dragons, dragon eggs, Ocarina of Time bric-a-brac, and whatever was free on Cults3D, all in the finest 1mm extruded FDM filament from your local Amazon sale. Will that be Square or CashApp, monsieur?
>>11781143man America is so grim
Will bbts be there?
>>11781065I am going to watch from the sidelines. It could actually be good if artists from overseas go there to sell. It'll be interesting at the very least. I'll try to go next year if it turns out successful.
>>11781065I'll be going. Looks like Kaiyodo has a booth at least. I'll try to remember to take some photos for y'all.
>>11781066>cringey and full of horror storiesI’ve been to sdcc multiple times and there is nothing that can happen there that is worse than 2015-2019 comic con.
>>11781065>no idea if there's the same garage kit culture in the states as there is in Japan. Not the same but there's enough of one. DesignerCon had a decent amount of people making and selling their own kits last time I went years ago. I can only imagine the advancements in resin printing has only made it better.
>>11781222share your horror stories
>>11781065What's the difference between THIS and what they have been doing for years and will also be doing in May, not too far away - in, Missouri? Tennessee? One of those other hell hole hick states?
>>11781848Wonderfest is its own thing, and it's an actual full convention with a focus on modelmaking. Wonfest US is an official extension of Wonfes in Japan, and it's just a segment of the exhibition hall in a much larger convention.
>>11781065yeah designercon shows theres definitely an audience for garage kits and homemade toys but I'm not sure how much of that audience is weebs here
>>11781143>Ocarina of Time bric-a-bracLike nude Malon and Saria stuff?
>>11781065WonFes has nothing. Also we have SDCC already
>>11782028wonfes is better than whatever slopparino floods american comic con
>>11781853>modelmaking. Wonfest US is an official extension of Wonfes in JapanStill don't get the difference, or why they don't just do this extension of Wonfes at the modelmaking con, but hey, I'm just a consumer who likes model kits....
>>11782403The WonderFest USA in Louisville is a pretty small event, though it's probably closer in spirit to Japan's WonderFest than anything else in the States.Momocon is the second largest anime convention in the US, so it makes sense Kaiyodo would wanna have the official US premiere of Wonder Festival US there.Looks like it's gonna have a mix of US model makers and ones from Japan, so it should be interesting.
>>11782030No it's not. They only reveal like 2 toys that aren't garage kits
We'll see, I mean Wonderfest Shanghai has basically become the biggest toy event in the world now for reveals. With all the Chinese studios completely taking over, they seem to value it, hence Xesray doing another exclusive figure, so I wouldn't be surprised if we see more stuff from like Inart, UPF, other random Chiba teams etc. even if they aren't at the event, they might just use it as an announcement/update day.
>>11782410>US model makers and ones from JapanNo Blokees, apparently. An interesting result.>>11782460>Inart, UPF, other random Chiba teams etc.yeah, they will probably pile on, but that's the way company's do this shit nowI mean how many asshole companies are pretending they care about mothers this particular weekend? I mean, does your mom REALLY want a $30 gift card to Panda Express so you could score a free one that would barely pay for your large soda?
