Was this a common thing with Exo Force sets....? I had this as a kid and a few others but I don't really remember.

Any MCU guy here? Why do they call these minifigs "venomized-[character]"?
Do kids these days not know what a symbiote is or something???

>Why do they call these minifigs "venomized-[character]"?
obviously that's the word you use, to not have to stop and explain:
"well, you see, Venom is a made WITH a symbiote, and when the symbiote combines with a not-Spider-Man, you can't really use the name "Venom" because that's the name of the Spider-Man but with the symbiote. does that make sense? yeah, people just say "Venom" but it's not accurate to do that...."

I think people recognize the symbiote is named Venom, and that thing is combining with the other characters, thus making them "Venom-ized"

if Lego did that, they would admit that yellow="white guy"

I "like" the "message" that "everybody is the same" yellow = everybody!
but I'm not a brown-skinned-person, so my personal experience cannot know if that is the correct message being perceived

same soul as old lego that didn't make them as much money. big builds that weren't many small bricks, tons of detail printed custom pieces that did more heavy lifting than tiles + stickers today. also I thought it was hilarious how regular generic Lego faces were used for unnamed characters, like that old waiter face in the OP image.
>>
>>11783941
Old sets were LEGO Star Wars, back of the box prominently featured alt builds as you were suppose to make just the main build snd instead create your own adventures in the SW universe. Around the mid 2000s Lego's design and brand image philosophy changed and over time they switched over to making STAR WARS Lego because older audiences are more willing to buy "Thing™ but Star Wars" then a Lego set.
>>
>>11783941
LEGO realized mousecucks don't actually have standards and will just buy anything, so the incentive to make an effort disappeared.

is that one of those Bricklink "sets"?
of course anything with a million pieces is going to look good.

those "sets" are amazing, but only for the one person's MOC. the fact that they make them into sets you can buy and build seems wrong. and they do things like "hey! it's one of those snake shields! that totally makes it worth the $900!"

aren't they all made with 2nd-hand bricks, too? like, you're literally buying somebody's MOC made with their own bricks.
>>
>>11783689
depends on your outlook
lando in 2003 directly led to the introduction of fleshies in 2004/5
or you could argue that the introduction of the tcw style in 2008 led to the never ending chase to make the sets glorified model kits at triple the price
>>
>>11783782
Because they are Venomized. Symbiotes all have different colouring, Carnage is Red, Anti-venom is white with black lines, Scream is Yellow and Red etc, so any character that gets a symbiote that is black with white lines is Venomized.
>>
>>11784135
Yeah, I guess there are people who like to be able to simply buy a nice set but for me these sets have little appeal beyond the oh look how cool when scrolling through a flickr feed.
>>
>>11784135
Bro, are you just that grossly uninformed about what these are, or are you just being intentionally disingenuous?

>those "sets" are amazing, but only for the one person's MOC. the fact that they make them into sets you can buy and build seems wrong.

Its a voting process. The only sets that get made are ones that actually get voted for by fans. They don't just take a random MOC and sell it. There are literally thousands of sets all vying for the top 5 spots, which are the only ones that get made into sets.

>and they do things like "hey! it's one of those snake shields! that totally makes it worth the $900!"

No they don't. They can't use rare, expensive, or retired parts. In fact, all the minifigures in the BLD sets, you can buy the parts of LEGO's own website through the Pick-a-brick. Literally the whole point is that they only use common parts for these.

>aren't they all made with 2nd-hand bricks, too? like, you're literally buying somebody's MOC made with their own bricks.

No...again, where are you getting these ideas? You're conflating the BLD with the stupid Star Wars guys who buy and sell MOCs from each other. These are officially made Lego sets that are manufactured, bagged, and boxed specifically for these orders. The only difference between these and regular Lego sets is that these don't come with physical instructions.
>>
>>11784135
>>11784208
Also, I find it hilarious that you try to make buying "used" parts as somehow bad to begin with, when there is a gigantic market for buying and selling used Lego. What the fuck do you think Bricklink even was for in the first place? Nevermind all the used shit that gets sold on eBay, stores like Bricks and Minifigs, etc.
>>
Predictions for 2027 SW sets? Apparently all Smart Play sets are set to retire at the end of 2027. So yeah...

I kinda expect normal sets of what we saw with smart play, I expect a new Luke X-Wing, maybe a two pack like they did with Rebuild the Galaxy of Luke's X-Wing and Vader TIE. I also expect a new version of Millenium Falcon but smaller and based on A New Hope (it's been what? 15 years since the last version based on ANH?). Perhaps we get a small Mos Eisley set too. I also expect atleast 2 or 3 more Mando movie sets, one of them better be Rotta the Hutt and arena fight. Oh, maybe we final get a Geonosis arena set? I also expect like 6-7 Starfighter movie sets, maybe some Ahsoka season 2 sets, atleast 2.

Also, did anyone get the new X-Wing from Mando movie?
>>
Good news! Smart Play is still selling abysmally on Amazon. (With exception of Vader’s TIE)

Despite all the May 4th promotion, since my last post the only sale number which has bumped up is the Falcon to 200+.

>>
>>11784234
Lego updated the retiring dates:
https://www.brickfanatics.com/every-lego-set-retiring-this-year-and-beyond/#retiring-star-wars-sets

All march 2026 smart play star wars sets will retire on december 31st, 2027.

Not great news for lego's half a billion dollars investment...
>>
>Smart play retires
lol no, they retire the Lego Mario smart figures and replace with minifigs + smart play functions. Nintendrones will keep it affloat and singlehandedly recoup all investments on smart play shit.
>>
>>11784243
Boss, they literally put the official retirement date for all smart brick shit for december 2027.

Mario stuff retires this july and leakers said 2027 mario minifigs won't feature smart play.
>>
>>11784224

As a black dude >>11783808 is pretty spot on. The vast majority of Lego people based on actors and real people had all been white up to that point so it makes sense that yellow = white/asian, so having the occasional black or brown dude be brown or orange coloured respectively makes sense. Also, yellow minifigs with black/african hair just kinda look weird man

>Army Building
Not with modern lego. The fact that something as fucking basic as pic related is 20 fucking dollars is insane. A pack of 4 minifigs and a lame little side build shouldn't be more than 10 bucks.
>>
>>11784289

>>11784296

Had a long hiatus from Lego and missed out on everything essentially. Just saw a picture of these two and I am interested again. The red one reminds me of the Blazing Falcon from Exo-Force with the shoulder cannon and arm blades. Anyone know when will these two come out? Couldn't find a review of them. Are they sold separately or in a set?
>>
>>11784282
Not sure about the modern Lego Community, and not sure if they'd fit into the old one either, but you'd be surprised to see how many black and brown kids swarmed the lego isle only for Bionicle and to a lesser extent Hero Factory. I was one of those kids but I think I'm the only guy in my entire town who still had any interest in Lego after Constraction ended
>>
>>11784307
They're sold together, releasing August 1

>>11784317
Ninjago huh? I only remember the first time that theme came out which was when I decided to peace out of the toyline. I'm surprised it stayed this long and Exo-Force didn't, and that it has mechs now. Ah, I have to wait another 3 months at least but I am excited, these two look really cool and being able to swap parts is nice.
>>
>>11784294
The Obi Wan Starfighter released in 2022 I think and only now is retiring in July this year, popular sets will have a long production life though they might be hard to find in stores after the first year but easy online and on lego.com after the product enters retirement its hard to find and then your only option is scalpers.
>>
Apparently Minas Tirith will be revealed in half an hour... anyone hyped?
>>
>>11784289
I'm actually a little underwhelmed by Grond. It's okay, but for a $750 GWP I expected Grond to be a little beefier, even if that makes it out of scale with minifigures. Not much bigger mind you, but it looks like he's on a diet. The orcs are nice.

>>11784291
Minas Tirith is $750!

AT TE is retiring in July, I day go for it. I wish I had found it at a good price again but I was out of star wars for a while and only now got back. I don't think I will get it before retiring so I guess I'll just wait for another remake (albeit smaller and more expensive) whenever it will come out...
>>
>>11784344
don't wait for another one bro, it will 100% be a downgrade in every way possible, and even more expensive. Its way too good of a set to pass up
>>
>>11784346
I dunno man, I made a list of sets and there are too many sets out right now, I will try to focus on sets that are retiring in July so I might get it.

Also, is it just me or this year is pretty bare bones? I mostly see Mando stuff and the more cool things are from previous years still on shelves.

>>11784313

>>11784320
In a way, Exo-Force was a prototype for what became Ninjago. They're both narrative-driven themes with some Japanese influence featuring a sentai team who fight bad guys - but Ninjago is far more westernized and the premise is more flexible, which has helped prevent it from going stale despite running for 15 years so far
Also some Bionicle influence with kid-friendly lore and a serialized narrative

Star Trek, too.
it's so crazy how Lego "targets" adult things with the high prices. but they must still sell or they wouldn't keep doing it.
>>
>>11784409
Make the big IP stuff for adults so kids get price-checked out of them. Adults will be willing to buy, but then the kids get funnelled into in house IPs like city and Ninjago for being more affordable.
If Harry Potter and Star Wars weren't consistent legacy collabs that have nearly always been on shelves, they might've got locked behind completely 18+ sets as well

This summer the curse might be broken, we don't know the price yet but I'd be surprised if it's more than a $120 at max

You know, when they first started this whole "adults welcome" and "18+" sets thing back in 2020, I was actually excited... now I fucking hate it so much and wish it never happened...

In the end I think the AFOL community is to blame for this, social media made them unashamed of playing with lego which resulted in price hikes, if they were bullied and lego stayed a kids thing then we wouldn't have this problem now!

Zelda back-pedal'd down from $300 to $130

I'm expecting $150-$160 for that TOS Bridge with a Harry Mudd or Cyrano Jones (with tribbles!) exclusive GWP polybag

when Lego does a Star Trek Tribble you think they will do:
A - 1x1 round stud brick in tan color
B - 1x1 round tile with a printed fur pattern
C - NEW MOLD! (still 1x1 to fit in a minifig hand)

if they do the printed tile or new mold, they would need to include A LOT of them in order to create the um... problem with Tribbles

I wanted an X-Wing since forever but I'm conflicted about these 3. The 1999 one wasn't really on my radar until someone pointed out that it was the only X-Wing that had the correct hexagon nose shape for literal decades whereas the others didn't. I already appreciated the model before that but this was the tipping point for putting it in the competition.

The bottom one also looks really good to me, but the biggest thing that stops me from immediately pulling the trigger is that the droid has to be placed sideways instead of facing forward.
The middle one is a classic that you can't really go wrong with, but if I'm dead-honest it feels like it has too much red splattered over it.
I haven't seen any of these in person so that's why I'm asking.

Also the newest one came out in Jan 2012, the disney acquisition was in Okt 2012 so don't you call me a goddamn mousecuck.
>>
>>11784494
go with the middle and just recolour it
>>
>>11784289
Can't wait to get raped on the aftermarket for this because I can't afford $650 on Lego amid a gas crisis

>>11784289
is it just me, or do the thin-plates-on-angles technique seem wrong here? I get that some people MOC like that, but to see it on an official model is weird. Like, actual Lego Engineers would "do better than that"
>>
>>11784521
Looks fine to me desu.
>>
>>11784435
What the fuck are these prices? Those are NOT MSRP. The "sales" are a scam. They're just bringing them down to a little under their actual RRP. You can get way better deals elsewhere. Don't be retarded.
>>
>>11784494
The Rebuild the Galaxy one (TIE mashup) also has the hexagon nose. It's pretty good as well.
But if your choise is purely between these three I'd either go with the top one if I just want a fun little toy full of SOVL(tm) or the bottow one for just looking spiffy as fuck.
>>
>>11784539
Are you stupid? The sale prices are great, check lego.com prices then compare to these. They are great deals.

He apparently doesn't want to support Disney Star Wars, so he wont buy a Disney era set. Not my problem. I would have recommended just modding the new one into blue squadron as seen here. I'm aware I could make it better with non studded blue plates etc. just used what I had to mod it. I've posted it before, but I changed the greebling on the top of the rear fuselage for greater accuracy. Cheated a bit with the circular greebling and put a Tantive IV spare sticker on it.
>>
Grond should have been the orc battlepack, I'd have paid fucking $40 USD for it if it also had 2 Gondor knights. What a hideous set too, so bland. 10 figures for $650 USD, Arwin has no dress printing, set has no orcs. Huge miss for me dawg.

I forgot how the turbines on the NR xwing looked, if they were ST or OT style. But yeah especially after seeing it again I would just get that and change it red or whatever.

They're exactly the same as OT as far as I know. None of that split engine turbine shit seen in ST which I despise.

how does /lg/ sort and store their lego pieces?

i recently got my childhood collection back in my possession and have been digging through and roughly sorting them by piece type in ziplocks. not quite autistic wall of drawers tier, but also better than digging through a bucket like this
>>
>>11784632
Personally I just sort by colour and size. Yes it takes awhile to sift for the right part, but for me it's better than needing like 200+ tiny drawers.
>>

People who sort by part spend more time sorting.

People who sort by color spend more time building.

I'm planning to start building a Lego City train track with the Vintage Steam Train, and eventually power it. What are some retired sets (that don't cost a fortune) which you guys would recommend for making a simple Lego city? I'm thinking I'll get Icons Tudor Corner as the centerpiece, and maybe the City Central Train Station too. What else could I add? I don't plan to make roads by the way, I don't want this to be overkill. Just a simple train track on a big table with some buildings and vehicles.

A family member gave me these acrylic stands, they work well for the Home One fleet. The two mon calamari cruisers had a weight issue before as the stands connected to a 2x2 behind the front curved piece. These are rebrickable ships, aside from Home One, and are meant to be in that scale which calculates Home One to be roughly 3000 meters. I can put the pieces from their stands towards moc stands and stuff now.

If you have a big collection you definitely need the drawers like in >>11784658 but they've become extremely expensive since covid (used to be $25 for the base one, now they're around $40 but they're made in the USA at least).

If your collection is not big, then Ziploc bags of different sizes would be fine.

For me its best to sort by piece type. All my 2x4 bricks in one pile, 1x1 in another, studs in another, technic types in another. I sort them by piece type and then mix in specific piece types that are visibly different for quick searching. Sorting by color is also fine but only if you have a small collection.
>>
I gotta get some more bionicle and technic pieces and actually build something with them, odd parts aplenty or other shit to do

I still have it (remember using my birthday money to buy it, picking it off the store shelf)

I think there is a fair chance to make it better, since the old one was so limited to old lego pieces. And Zam's Koro-2 Airspeeder's falling apart feauture made the wings a bit flimsy, I hope the new model will be more stable.

But the old one was 100% printed, not a single sticker. I really hope that's 1 thing they don't change. If there is one set that doesn't need stickers for details its this one.

The car is made from 420,000 Lego bricks; it is electric, steerable, weighs around 1,500 kilos and has a top speed of about 10 km/h. It has no brakes and, according to the builder, is uncomfortable to sit in. It took four years and around 4,000 hours to build. Everything is made of Lego except for the chassis that holds the car together.

also huge missed opportunity to double dip on the og masks by dual molding them with silver and the darker colours, the money was right there on the table and they passed it up

I feel like the main problem with current Lego is that there's so many licensed themed that could have been original themes, but if you want that specific genre you have to pay the licence tax.
You want Lego Castle? Buy Lord of the Rings. You want Lego Pirates? Buy One Piece. You want Lego Space? Buy Star Wars and Star Trek. Jurassic World is especially guilty of this, is there's a reason a generic T-rex fossil have to have the JW licence?

The worst is when someone says they want a set of X and people respond that there was Bricklink designer set of X so we don't need it. Like are you fucking retarded? These sets are for all intents and purposes not purchasable outside the 7 day preorder period.

Believe you me, they're the kinds of people who will never fail to be butthurt about anything ever. Out of all of those obnoxious entitled indigenous groups the local government can't stop tripping over themselves to deepthroat, they are far and away the worst in every way.
>>
>>11786351
Its honestly boring even looking through the submissions. Every third or fourth submission is a gigantic castle set that looks nearly identical to the last few dozen you looked at, and all of them kiss the max amount of pieces you can use for submission.

It also feels like (and this isn't necessarily limited to castle sets) like many of the sets just rip existing official Lego sets and builds. Like I came across one of the submissions for series 11 and it was just a slight redesign of the Medieval Blacksmith set. And they didn't even try to make it a different building. Its just another medieval blacksmith set...
>>
>>11786351
>>11786358
Would making a full "wave" of classic style castle sets get any votes? I was considering entering something like that into the contest, just 7-10 chunky, early 2000's styled smaller sets bundled together to reach the max part count
>>
>>11785324
Didn't they already do this?
>>
>>11786358
No I feel you, a lot of the designs are uncanny. My personal nitpick is the minifigures, they always looks bad because they're stuck with whatever the current roster of PAB parts is. Castle sets especially are looking rough after all the good PAB parts retired at the end of last year. For example, I think you were talking about the Alchemist Shop from series 11. In that set the designer tried to pass off the new vampire torso with white skin as like an undershirt and gloves or something? Looks terrible. Same with minifigs from the Transylvania castle. Like you have this incredible gothic castle and then alongside it are a dozen janky ass city reject figs. Kinda kills the vibe for me.
>>
>>11786351
This is why Lego juat needs to fucking bite the bullet and make official castle sets again. There's an obvious demand for it. Just fucking do it already.

well, one thing I really wish we would see more is wild west.

I was 7-8 when those sets were pulled off the shelves, only thing I ever got from the western line was the Sheriff's Showdown.

I understand that in today's context, the whole "manifesting their destiny" shit is a pretty fucked up part of american history, and as an european I shouldn't romanticize it. But as a setting its still an interesting period, and we can find problematic things happen in every era of humanity. The castle theme is based on the european medieval ages which was also full of horrid displacement of tribal people and religious persecution, and we still romanticize it.

Is there no way to do WildWest respectfully, or more as a "what it should've been" wish fulfillment? I guess the guns and revolvers are the problem aren't they, not even City cops and robbers have guns anymore.

when you start doing Lego at a massive scale, it almost stops being "Lego"

the very first time you see one of those, it's a childish "WOW!" but then you realize it's not that different from a regular marble sculpture or other type of statue. and a lot of those are built around not-Lego structures, so again, it's removed from "Lego" at it's very core (heh)

still impressive tho, I gotta admit that sort of commitment

He was right. I know you probably know this story but Akira Toriyama has made other stuff besides Dragonball. The reason Goku kept dying in the series is because he wanted to wrap up the story but Shonen Jump/Shueisha basically forced him to keep working on it. That's why Emperor Gokultine SOMEHOW has returned. It's why Super Sayan powers kept increasing. GT, Z Kai, Super, etc were all forced out by Toei Animation without Toriyama and have nothing to do with the original comic series by Toriyama. The last project he actually worked on was Daima. And that lasted only one season because Toriyama died the same year it launched.

Cell arc was fine. Issue was the beginning with all the different androids, but that was due to editor interference. It was also probably the best ending the series could have had, with Goku dying to save Earth, and effectively passing the torch to his son. It was also the culmination of the buildup across the entire series up to that point that Gohan had latent potential that he was stronger than anyone else.

Buu arc was bad because they were trying to mesh the slapstick humor of OG Dragonball with the serious fighting of DBZ.

I was a lot more tolerant of Lego’s refusal to do a Castle theme when they were giving us non 3in1 sets like medieval market and blacksmith. Because even if you didn’t want those you could PaB the torsos. It’s also kind of annoying for everyone that they pawned off castle to bricklink designer program. Because castle completely dominates it. Castle fans are annoyed they have to go to bricklink for new sets and BDP is flooded with castle projects, which has to be frustrating for non castle fans. And it proves there is significant demand. The Lego Group is retarded and needs new leadership

I have dnd set, castle set, blacksmith and market + 3-4 brickwall boxes and dpne it myself, so i know what im talking about. Meanwhile people are stoked for 15 castle on brick link, build it and let ot catch the dust on the shelve togheter with thier autismo army builds.
Its the same lvl of mental illness as people who collect trash and lego starwars.

>I dont understand bricklink castle fans tho
No one is buying them because they are "bricklink castles," they're buying them because there are no other options. Lego puts out a pittance of castle sets, and frankly, some of them aren't very good anyway.

I think almost everyone would rather Lego just put out castle sets of various sizes, instead of gigantic BLD sets. Many of these sets only come with knights and stuff anyway. Hardly any of them actually come with peasants, commoners, and other regular townspeople.

>Town reboot, not city but something focused on non-facade houses, gas stations, and misc buildings
>Castle with Dwarves, Elves, Orcs, Goblins and Skeletons, add in a few port town sets and Merfolk for the Pirate guys, take lessons from lotr and harry potter
>Space with defined alien races, tons of factions running concurrently, and a few named planets, take lessons from pre-disney Star Wars, a sandbox but there's still room to bullshit around
>Bionicle 2001 in everything but name, but its highly articulate, technic heavy figures with as few new parts as they can get away with, mask packs, and giant technic function heavy beasts for them to fight
>Elves but the Minidolls have slightly more articulation, tie this into Castle's lore and add a few human, goblin and mermaid characters
>Western, if you want to bundle this up more, bundle this into Castle, give the dwarves revolvers, and make Arcanum magic rules where technology breaks down around magic so neither becomes dominate in the future
>Alpha Team but its more of a mix of Mega's Alien Agency and the X-Files. Named agents that travel around solving mysteries and investigating anomalies, Agent Mulder and Agent Scully are in YOUR lego town

>It’s actually shocking how bad Lego is at timing licensed sets with their respective releases.
due to development things like set design, muh-new-molds, printing instruction books, box art, factory brick making/sorting, producing sets in crazy huge quantities for worldwide availability, shipping those sets everywhere... Lego has to plan soooo far in advance it's dizzying. take K-Pop Demon Hunters, it was surprise hit. hey, Lego does Netflix... quick! do a set! it takes them over a full year to react.

you think they could plan things like Maul show, they must have known it was coming out a year ago. sometimes they even have production sketches to work off of, and they produce sets that are cut from the final film (pic related)

or maybe Lego simply DID know about it, and made a choice to ignore it? with the Smart Brick launch, and Mando movie (which they did time pretty close) meh, too much Star Wars to include Maul sets. oh well. You think Lego would have made SW:Acolyte sets, too.

also, some movie releases are pushed back. I think that new Captain America Movie did that, and the Lego sets were already on clearance by the time the actual film released

is this an attempt to get responses by prompting us to defend the question poster? those unrelated reactions were quite extreme and unnecessary. welcome to the 4chan, I guess?

I think there is hope Lego could do some kind of wild west-related theme like Bonanza or what was that new show recently? Yellowstone? I didn't see it. They could always toss a cowboy into a CMF series and you can build your own MOC around it. that might be the most likely thing to happen. or if that Editions thing blows up, maybe some kind of country singer will get a set?

I think it would be awesome for Lego to do a full black&white Rifleman set (or some other B/W show)

>>
>>11787883
illegal for them to do so after hasbro sued them in the early '00s for their star wars 3 minifig packs
apparently selling stand alone star wars minifigs counts as 'action figures', which is encroaching on hasbro's territory
not sure how this would work with disney now involved, but i imagine it still stands
>>
>>11787892
Wasn't the ruling on that a lot more vague than that? And don't CMF count as "play sets" since they come with accessories?
Granted lego may just not see the point in chancing it and want to make more money selling over priced UCS sets with exclusive minifigs
>>
>>11787905
the 3 packs also had accessories: a weapon, stand, and a character card
in many ways they were the predecessor to the cmf line, they also did some for ninja, city, rock raiders, and sports
>>

>>11787905
There was no lawsuit. Where does this myth come from?
>>
>>11787929
pretty sure this is a thing
notice that the Star Wars Funko POP! Figures are "bobble heads" with spring necks, thus classified as not-action-figures but something else. no other Funko POP! Figures use the spring necks

I specifically remember Hasbro losing their shit over Lego's figure sets, when it happened. that was before The Internet had cancel-culture/extreme-over-reaction influences

it would be funny to find out it was not true, tho. like we all just thought it was and it became thus. and Hasbro is like "shusssssh!" whenever someone says it's not true like a little brat
>>
>>11787892
I don't even see how that matters since Hasbro doesn't own the trademark of action figures and they didnt incent action figures. Unless the licensing rights they signed with Lucasfilm was for action figures, maybe.
>>
>>11787979
afaik the issue was specifically with the star wars minifigs, so it probably had something to do with the deals with lucasfilm
>>
>>11787958
There has never been a lawsuit between Hasbro and Lego. I mean it's a bit difficult to prove a negative but just google Hasbro V. Lego lawsuit in any sewrch engine and you will find no results.
>>
>>11787986
The whole marketing toys with movies was kind of a new thing with Star Wars. Contracts and deals may have been a bit murky since it was new territory for both film makers and toy companies. I do remember my Kenner star wars figure collection. Wish I still had them. My favorite one was the Jawa. Also had an R5D4 (bad motivator)
I can see how a minifig only pack would fall into the action fig category.

I don't think it was an actual lawsuit, I think it was just Hasbro guy calling up Lego guy and screaming "not cool, bro!" and Lego going "oh wow, we had no idea! of course we'll stop! Um, if you consider them action figures, I mean, you still build them... but no, we'll stop if you say so." and Hasbro doing the bully chest-forward "yeah, we thought so!" move
>>
>>11788100
No this is form my prices. The display I bought can really only hold 30 figures and there's like 45 Simpsons figs that I have so I started designing my own in Studio last night and built this prototype today. It's supposed to be tiered and this is the first row. I think I'm gonna make it so they're a little bit closer to each other. I'm using a single stud to avoid heel cracking.
>>
>>11788120
>>11787999
Ok now I'm thinking, if this is true how the fuck did Lego sell an entire Marvel, Spiderverse, and DC Superhero CMF line? And I'm thinking... Micromachines had stand alone figure packs. Are miniatures not "action figures"? Is it an action figure because it can be posed into actions? Or does it need kung fun grip and swivel waist gimmicks? It's true that Lego figures are buildable. If anything they're more like model figures since you have to assemble them before you can play with them. I call bullshit and for the utter destruction of Hasbro for denying me cheap Lego Star Wars figures.

it ONLY applies to Star Wars
old man speech: well it all goes back to the original Kenner line of Star Wars figures. Lucas knew he wanted toys, and in order to secure the deal, he offered Kenner "exclusive!" rights to them, as long as they made a commitment to making lots of them. Hasbro bought Kenner, and somehow managed to hold on to that original deal.

do we all know what this magical deal is? not really, but everybody dances around it hoping Hasbro doesn't notice or care when they make something kinda-like an action figure for SW

I also agree that it seems crazy easier for Lego to make a gazillion Gulp Shittos. Lego could easily print a torso and pick a hair piece and Hasbro has to sculpt new molds for all that. literally no excuse for Lego to not have 5 extra torso prints on characters in each set, they charge so much for them. take Sigourney Weaver in the new Mando movie her minifig is a printed torso and Hasbro had to make a mold of her face.

Modern Lego designs are “too good” in that they fail to meet the level of abstraction that most suits Lego bricks at their core. If exactly recreate the silhouette of a building or sw spaceship then it just makes it just seem strange that it’s made of legos at all. I think current Minecraft (the actual game) has the same issue, the new mobs and textures are too professional for a world made of huge blocks.

Also modern Lego sets are too heavy.
>>
>>11788177
Checked. Too heavy and not sturdy. I built the The Batman bat cave set and you cant really pick it up from the stairs because theres nothing holding it together properly. I sometimes think of it in a kid's perspective like if youw wanted to move it around. Same for that one star wars wheeled thank thing. It basically shatters unless you grab it from the bottom. Also agree about the too detailed thing. Like the current F1 cars. Yeah, don't get me wrong, they look really fucking good, really impressive. But a the same time it makes them like $30. If this was for kids they should be like $15 max and less detailed. I mean I had no problem with the 90s F1 cars that were like r probably 20 pieces compared to the modern 300 piece sets.
>>
>>11788177

unless you're rich of course, then it's all "oh wow! I watched that Goonies movie! lemme get that!" (without even looking at the price)

Well, guess what, being poor is not a thrill ride. It sucks, so, seething is part of the experience.
>>
>>11788429
so you're calling your own family or whoever gifted it to you a pay piggie? weird
>>
>>11788498
Oh most definitely!
My little brother has more money than sense. I didn’t buy it for myself on principle. He noticed I didn’t have it so he took the initiative without realizing the implications.
I am glad to own it but I wouldn’t but it and I don’t defend his spending habits.

>>

Is that even really reddit tier? I'm not sure what that is. You have to scratch your head at someone who openly mocks a family member who bought them a gift.

I just showed him and he said you guys were all fags. And poor too. Yadda yadda yadda dilate.

Fucking aspies. You put your bricks in a trunk. Done. Need to find something? You dump half of it out on the floor and swirl the other half around in the trunk until you find what you need like god intended.

This.
Toss them in a fucking box.
As god intended.

Do you think they were Onu-koro fans?
>>
>>11784367
I'm pretty happy with this, except for one thing.
I can't believe they didn't give Aragon a proper Anduril. It's one of and arguably THE most iconic Gondor imagery, and his main defining Kingly item in the movie. They already had the hilt in Rivendell as well, and for a set this expensive there's no excuse for not making a unique mold for it. It might actually be the biggest miss of the whole LOTR line-up
