Seems Mattel's not doing to hot lately and a small group of shareholders owning 4% are interested in it being sold to either Hasbro or a private equity firm to try to push the stock to $30 or take it off the market completely.
>We know that Mattel and Hasbro have engaged in on-and-off talks for decades. At the moment, a deal between the two companies is possible in our view. Hasbro has done a better job executing on digital growth than Mattel and therefore has more credibility in this important part of the business. We believe synergies between the two companies would be material, creating a stronger player in a global industry.
Since it's such a small percentage of shareholders, I doubt it'll amount to anything, but with all the toy companies we've seen go under in recent years, it's interesting that even one of the most famous toy companies in the world is in danger nowadays. Hopefully their DC line will be a success.

I bet there's another 4% who are saying Mattel should buy Nintendo. You don't have to know anything about business to buy stock
>>
kek I work for Mattel. They're doing just fine. Before anyone asks, I'm a warehouse checker. I just make sure the correct inventory is being loaded into the right trailers.
>>
>>11785104
Mattel owns Barbie, they could buy all your favorite import brands and not even notice a dip.
>>
Do these 4%ers happen to also be marvel slopgen collectors? Mattel will be fine especially with the reacquisition of dc but idk about hasblow...

Barbies also haven't been selling well after a temporary bump after the movie made them relevant again from what I've heard.

>>
>>11785104
If Mattel is not doing so great why are they spending so much on pushing MOTU, many different lines, getting the DC license back, etc?
>>
>>11785213
>I just make sure the correct inventory is being loaded into the right trailers.
Tell whomever that they aren't sending enough stock to Target. I can't find the suited Mattel wrestling bodies I need for suited civilians at my local Targets and when I went to look for MOTU toys at the five largest Targets in my district (Metro LA), almost all of them had like 30-50% of the end cap display missing (from what people are showing in the MOTU General and elsewhere).

When I asked the one toy lead I know well at the second largest store, he said they "put out all" the stock they "received." It's one fucking end cap in one fucking aisle.

Meanwhile, Super Mario movie toys STILL look like they vomited all over the entire seven or eight aisles of toys at this particular Target. Even the LEGO section has one entire cabinet that looks like Mario vomited all over it.
>>
Why would Hasbro buy them? I thought Hasbro was having financial problems and Mattel was doign well?
>>
Hasbro is trying to get out of toys and into just being a content company that outsources, so I don't know why they would buy Mattel unless it's just for IPs
>>
>>11785614
Nothing I can do about that. If that's all Target ordered, that's all they get.
>>
Why is this a thread
>>11785677
Why are Americans even in the toy industry its all outsourced to China where the actual work happens
>>
>>11785798
Because Americans hold the IPs. And I'm not even referring to contracting with Chinese factories. I'm talking outsourcing as in giving a license to another company and just collecting checks from them, not even being involved in the design or management of the line.
>>
>>11785830
>Because Americans hold the IPs
>>
>>11785618
This. Mattel is way more competently run than hasbro

MOTU figures are free to play. Anyone getting DC asca business venture now is just making a few staple characters, not getting movie merch worth any effort to mass produce.
>>
>>11785798
>Why are Americans even in the toy industry its all outsourced to China where the actual work happens
Are you one of those people who wants things to be made in the US? But you also don't want to be paying any more for the same products?
>>
>>11786901
Imagine trying to profit with a made in America figure before the $100 ebay value on a Hasbro basic figure became common.
>>
>>11786901
You're actually fucking retarded
>>
>>11786934
I don't care about the minority black people. At least their ancestors did something. All these new nations come in and scam and burglarize the property of legacy citizens on a massive orgaized scale while they collect benefits. The factories went to China because the politicians don't want us to have the jobs and equipment ever again.
>>
>>11786949
Hello there Ukrainian car part theif. How's your free dental work? Sure glad you avoided your own war at my expense.
>>
>>11786901
Ahh yes. The Youtuber who makes simple toys in his garage out of things like wax, melted plastic, or recycled materials. That is totally the same thing as mass produced plastic toys you find in the stores. You are so smart. You should tell all those big toy companies to make toys that same way.
>>
Imagine actually seriously trying to argue with Chunguspedo.
>>
>>11786957
And yet all you do is seethe about these Americans you claim to be so superior to. Curious.

Well, not that curious, many of you thirdies behave this way.
>>
>>11785677
See that's retarded because the only people who care about hasbro's IPs are toy buyers. None of the attempts to branch out into other forms of entertainment were met with any success aside from the obligatory transformers autists who will buy anything with Optimus' face on it because they have autism.
>>
>>11787640
No, its less risk and way less effort while they can still collect some profit through royalties. Offloading all the risk in overproducing the product or it not selling well onto other companies while all Hasbro does is sign off on approvals while their brands remain on store shelves or in online stores is smart. It's just less profit for them than if they made the toys themselves, but way less risk and way less effort. That's why they do it for tons of brands (Power Rangers, Care Bears, some GI Joe, some TF, Micro Machines, Little Pony, Nerf)

Hasbro buying Mattel would be funny to me as Ive always liked Hasbro more, but that would just create a fucking monopoly and allow Hasbro to become even lazier.

>>

>>11785931
Hasbro's sales for 2025 were up 14% from the previous year and Mattel's were down 1%, though still slightly higher than Hasbro's overall. Hasbro's net worth is also several times Mattel's. While it probably won't happen, this is really not as improbable as some people here are making it seem, like Gamestop buying the much more profitable Ebay.
>>
>>11789080
Market capitalization is pretty stupid as a way to value companies. Warner Brothers was sold and has been passed around like a cheap whore this past decade because its stock price was "low." It's still taken billions of dollars to buy each time it has happened, which has required a lot of money to be borrowed and this saddled WB with that debt, this continuing to depress that "market cap" number y'all are treating as of primary importance.

Your example of GameStop and eBay is actually a good one because IT could happen if someone with money backstopped it. Xshitter was overpaid for but even Elon stupidly doing that and running the company into the toilet doesn't make it into worthless penny stock territory because too many idiots have too much invested to honestly acknowledge that shit stinks even when it's recognizable and obvious truth.
>>
>>11788561

>>

>>
>>11789161
I mean, sure, there's a lot of other factors to consider when it comes to the sale of a billion dollar company, but at the end of the day, market cap/stock value and what investors are willing to pay for it is pretty relevant to the discussion for a publicly traded company and gives them more purchasing power.

Warner Brothers and Twitter are both outliers rather than the norm. WB is in some insane situation where they've had 7 sales/mergers(most ending badly) and Twitter's gone private since Elon purchased it for more than twice the estimated value at the time. Generally, companies don't sell for 2x or more their market value. Looking at debt, Hasbro owes $3.4 billion while Mattel owes $2.68 billion. But Hasbro's market cap's $13.47 billion compared to Mattel's $4.40 billion. All that said, nothing's likely to come of it, especially since it's primarily been MTG(and to a lesser extent D&D) keeping Hasbro afloat for years now and they're more interested in video games rather than toys these days.
>>
>>11789322
I'm not going to parse all this in detail but far too many people look at a stock price and decide that is the be all and end all.

Twitter was a perfect example of money wasted and overpayment. AOL Time Warner was a bad merger in the same way Verizon and Yahoo was, except for the amount. But that's where that problem started for WB.
In the case of Twitter, it's only a private company to absorb the loses and debt and fool people, and to try to remove it from being seen as publicly stupidity on Elon's part
Connecting Hasbro and Mattel wouldn't really benefit the stockholders except for people who want to make a quick, easy and lazy buck from driving the price up slightly and quickly dumping it.
It's as stupid as people who hung onto AMC or GameStop a few years back.
