/RAPT/ General - The Vinyl Frontier edition."On a shelf no-one can see you scale"Welcome to the second (official) RAPT general. This general is mainly for these franchises. You can talk about modern lines, but the main focus is on the older vintage stuff from Kenner, Toy Island, etc.Discussion of the films and other media is also welcome.Discussion of other similar films and toylines like Rambo, Last Action Hero, Congo, Demolition Man, even Waterworld, is cool. Especially if it pertains to part swapping, customs, or features for wishful toylines you'd like to see.Due to some disruptive posts from the last thread, posting about NECA is only allowed if you post an image from your own collection. If troll posts continue, then NECA will be labelled as off-topic in the next thread.
So because NECA anon is already on his bullshit, I'm gonna do a story time just so something of value is posted instead.1/15

While most of you burgers were sleeping, I impulse bought this little dude after watching a few reviews. Looking forward to him.I am still on the fence about the Beastbox one. On the upside, he can be put into a "runner" quadrupedal pose, which the Figlite one can't achieve. The downside is that it is very stylised, and some reviews said the transformation is a bit clunky. Anyone have some experience with him that might be able to talk me into or out of it?>>11793163Haven't read this in years. Now you are just encouraging me to get the Kenner Xenos carded. I was almost willing to live without the facehuggers included with each figure, but i think I want the comics.
>>11793185Man the comics were so awesome I loved getting them
>>11793185>Anyone have some experience with himOP here, just so happens that I do. He's certainly fun in a novel kind of way, but not a figure I'd recommend easily. I gave up trying to put him back into the cube because it is really finnicky. I'm sure if I actually put the effort in I'd figure it out, but I don't see the point because I'm never going to display him in the box.The biggest appeal of him is the stylisation, kind of a Minecrafty/robotic thing going on, if that specifically doesn't appeal to you, I probably wouldn't bother with him, also I've had mine on the shelf basically since I've gotten it, but already some of the ball joints feel loose, so he is very floppy and awkward to pose. The Yoshi one you got was definitely the better choice.
>>11793179>>11793181>>11793183Awesome storytime! The last three pages really do alot of heavy lifting. The action's perfectly tailored to appeal to a 5 year old's sense of cool and it just makes me love the entire mess all the more. I really wish we'd gotten cartoons for either of these franchises back in the day. The comic art just brings to mind the old x-men, street fighter, and darkstalker animated series.
>>11793206Nta but the beastbox power loader looked neat, really all the toys in the range do, but the gimmick of turning into a box confuses me. It's just such an underwhelming alternate form. I'd just keep them transformed the entire time if I had one.On a related note, I'm surprised we didnt get TF crossovers from any of these properties.
>>11793206Garbage
>>11793217It really is a great comic, I remember when they first came out I was really young and I was so confused by how the Predator's face was drawn on the second last page, I'd thought he had some kind of ability where he could split his head in two because I'd only seen that technique use like that in other comics for characters splitting. It's amazing how stupid a child's brain can be.Also including mini-comics in with figures is such a great idea for filling in lore for kids who can't watch the movies. It's a shame that the Predator figures didn't get their own comics.
>>11793206Thanks for the feedback. He looks like such a goofy goober. His stylisation reminds me of something. Maybe the Mad magazine cover from when Alien 3 came out. I'm not sold on the body, but it's hard to resist that grin.
>>11793219>but the gimmick of turning into a box confuses me. It's just such an underwhelming alternate form.Yeah, it makes sense for the original figures, because I think the idea was that they're supposed to be industrial robots that you'd have in a crate and then deploy, and they just went further with the gimmick.>I'm surprised we didnt get TF crossoversGiven how some TF collectors flip their shit at non-transforming Transformers I'd hate to see what would happen if they got an Optimus or Megatron that only turned into a cube.
>>11793225>but it's hard to resist that grinThe inner mouth is on a spring and it launches out when you open the jaws. So that's a fun little bonus. If you have the money to burn, or you find one going really cheap, it is fun for the novelty, but I wouldn't grab it over another figure.
>>11793228Yeah, because you have shit taste in toys.
>>11793206Used to own one of these before I sold most of my BBs for space, it's cute, I like the more chibi proportions compared to the newer one.Same company is making wind up face huggers too which seem cool.
>>11793322>wind up face huggersI'm surprised that no company has tried that before, especially given that the actually animatronic in Aliens was effectively just a pull toy. Also nice digits.
>>11793327Because it's a stupid idea
>>11793327Yeah its a fun idea, thinking about picking one up so I'll post pics if I do.
>>11793322Oh shit, I just realised that it was the old one I watched reviews for and that OP was giving feedback for, when the one I was considering buying on HLJ was the new one with a more realistic head. That's my fault for not looking at the item pic properly. It's a shame. I kind of fell in love with that chibi fucker's grin. Now might have to hunt the old one down.I also saw the wind up facehugger, and am tempted just for the novelty. Look at the lil' fella go.https://youtube.com/shorts/TfUEOhUVbtA
>>11793348Woah they're bigger than I expected. That egg is really cool too, I like how you turn the base to wind it up.
>>11793348Oh you meant this dude? Yeah, he's definitely cool looking, I like that the cube emulates Giger's artwork a little.
>>11793367They're also putting out a Wolf Predator. It's weird they decided to go with Big Chap for the Alien release and then jump all the way to AVP:R for the Predator. That said Wolf is an awesome design, it's a shame he's trapped in a crappy film
>>11793368>That said Wolf is an awesome design, it's a shame he's trapped in a crappy filmSame goes for the Predalien, at the very least they should be in a movie with actual lighting
>>11793383I still think if they went back and re-scanned the footage they might be able to brighten it up, because the films sets were bright as fuck.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dbx39cNQ228
>>11793367Yeah, that's the one. I forgot there were two different releases until the other anon mentioned it, and I had to double check which one I nearly added to my cart.
>>11793400>and I had to double check which one I nearly added to my cart.Did you get the right one?
>>11793385Huh I didn't know that... shame that I doubt Disney will fork out the money for a rescan for a movie not many people like, though I'd appreciate it.
>>11793416>I doubt Disney will fork out the money for a rescanHonestly, I think Disney want to milk the Alien and Predator franchises so much, I wouldn't be surprised if they do one a couple years down the line just to try and ring some extra dollars out of it.Hell it'll work too because even though everyone agrees the film is bad, we all still want to finally SEE the film, just for ADI's creature work if nothing else.
I'm not normally a Pop vinyl kinda guy, but I thought this was a fun idea, especially with the light up feature.
>>11793226>Given how some TF collectors flip their shit at non-transforming Transformers I'd hate to see what would happen if they got an Optimus or Megatron that only turned into a cubeNo I was suggesting the opposite, Transformers based off vehicles from each franchise. Robocop's cruiser, colonial marine APCs and personnel carriers, predator hoverbikes, etc.
>>11793449I'm not a pop collector by any means but the rule of thumb has always been non-humans translate to the art style best. The less human, the better the outcome.
I've mentioned it before but I still find it incredibly odd that Kenner just passed on the opportunity to make toys for the Robocop versus Terminator comic. Just looking at things chronologically, they could have prepared a new wave of figures to coinside with the comic's release, then turn around and reissue the Robos on their own for the release of the 3rd movie! The line would have been able to coast off the success of T2 and Robocop 3 before leading into Future War too. It would have even merited upscaling the Robocop 3 line to better fit with the T2 releases. And since I'm mulling over what if's, I really wish we could get a Samurai Realization Robocop. You can sort of get an idea of one would look like going off Vader and Iron Man. Honestly the whole "robocop in different eras" angle really entertains me. In the past I did a knight robocop aswell as a pulp scifi one. Maybe I should dig those out.
Did anyone know about the Robo moderoid kit? I just stumbled onto it now. Looks amazing! This is more or less what I'd want from a Blokees Robo.
>11793155>11793157>11793159yikes! spamming isn't against the rules?>>11793163KINO>>11793217>I really wish we'd gotten cartoons for either of these franchises back in the dayWe were so close, bro...
>>11793217>>11793966Also, did you knoe there was a cancelled AvP anime called "Aliens vs. Predator: Annihilation"? The project was directed by Shinji Aramaki, apparently that thing was finished in 2016 and canned thanks to the Fox/Disney deal. It consist in 10 episodes, there is more info:>https://www.avpgalaxy.net/2023/05/15/the-story-behind-the-aliens-vs-predator-animated-series/
>>11793966That picture is burned into my psyche. Oh ho we were robbed. The way they drew rhe xenos in some of these frames even reminded me of another famous 90's xeno-clone in the Ultraverse's NM-E!
>>11793988Are they just sitting on the episodes or was ir canned before it entered production?>cyborg predatorHOLY SHITOh man, bland protags aside, that predator alone has me more interested than that awful terminator anime did.
>>11793409I didn't take the plunge. Now I kind of want both for different reasons. The new one looks like a better figure, but I like the goofiness of the chibi one.>>11793966>spamming isn't against the rules?Don't give him attention. He's just proving that he is a troll with too much time on his hands. >We were so close, bro...>>11793988>AvP animeWhat could have been. We are definitely in the worst timeline.
Finally pulled these out of storage
>>11793529>No I was suggesting the opposite, Transformers based off vehicles from each franchise.Oh yeah, I miss-understood. Honestly, given how well Police Car Transformers like Chase and Strongarm were turning out recently, and classic characters like Prowl or even Armada Red Alert (who is based on RoboCop), doing Murphy's cruiser would be easy.Maybe the properties have too much blood.
>been nothing but hostile and insulting while spamming pictures literally no one asks for or wants to see >calls others control freaks and disrespectful The irony is palpableThis general is a wash. He's a bed bug that has infested it and he's not going away. He has no life and no friends, nothing to keep him from coming here and shit posting day in and day out for years on end. And the mod(s) are about as effective as a wet dog fart in the wind. Imagine being such a loser sack of shit that the only joy you get in life is harassing strangers on a toy forum on 4chan. I'd legit kill myself if I was that pathetic.
>>11794105>The new one looks like a better figure, but I like the goofiness of the chibi one.Well if you can comfortably afford, get both.
>>11794105>We are definitely in the worst timeline.Ridley Scott and Disney definitely fucked us.
>>11794188>Maybe the properties have too much bloodI hadnt considered it until you mentioned it. That's probably exactly what's keeping them from attempting it. Ah that's a shame, just think of how cool a Hunter Killer Seeker could have been.
>>11794192The new one is affordable. The older one will be secondary market prices, but it can still be found for under $50.It was a bit hard to find at first, but then I found out it was when the line was called Megabox.Unfortunately, the Queen is going to be a bit more painful. Not completely unattainable prices, but when I see I could have bought it for 3k yen in 2020, it's a bit of a kick in the balls.
>>11794198Nah, I like Scott, I agree about Disney, Romulus, Earth, Prey and Badlands are utter shit.To stay on topic, anyone know the release date of the 52toys Engineer?
>>11794191You started it. Maybe you should apologize for being an ass.
>>11794300Gundamit still list it as release date unknown, and I don't think any of the Jap sites have put it up for preorder yet.
>>11793172>>11793170Kinda cool and weird they used the actual toys.
>>11794115Thats cool. But is this just a battleworn soldier with some prostethics or does he feature magic, alchemy or Leonardo cog/steam mechanics to keep him running?Did you do a steampunk version? Cant remember you did, so a victorian steampunk Robocop needs to be drawn! ;)
>>11794117Thats cool. But this looks more like a new Robocop successor. Kinda like they tried a modern looking, family friendly one. One version you make to interact with people and use him to give parking tickets and controll park littering.
>>11794401The story goes that Kenner and Fox were ready to do a cartoon based on Aliens called Operation Aliens, which would be an episodic monster of the week story where the Marines would travel to different planets and take out a new Alien hive filled with that specific episode's themed alien (Bull, Rhino, Mantis, Snake, etc.) Livery, figure designs, promo material, the whole shebang were ready to go when the deal fell through. Kenner dropped the "Operations" part and just went with Aliens, they recycled the episode story ideas and had Dark Horse turn them into mini-comics to pack in with the Aliens figures to help explain the gimmick. Some of the creature design ideas like the Flying Queen and Gorilla though got worked into the SNES AVP beat 'em up as well.
>>11794425Some merchandise with the Operation Aliens branding still made it to market. The Operations Aliens Combat Game board game is a personal grail of mine, beyond just the branding, it actually looks like a genuinely fun game to play.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kcT-j98yttQ
>>11794250I thought that was the mega construx version of the queen for a second
>>11794404That concept ended up capturing my imagination so completely that I wrote an extensive backstory for him. He is essentially a battleworn soldier who was revived with magic, alchemy, and metalworking. Hard to say if I still have the narrative written down somewhere though. Far as I can remember the main antagonist was an evil wizard who'd become the king of a rival kingdom and was pitting all sort of creatures against Sir Alexander's homeland. He came the closest to defeating the wizard but was severely injured and made an example of. The king of Murphington (a medieval take on OCP's old man) insisted on his salvation and so he became what he is now.>SteampunkClosest thus far has been the cowboy one. I'll have to figure out an angle with the steampunk one. Lately I've been trying to figure out how best to handle a distinct ninja take on Robo that doesnt just retread the Mortal Kombat design. Man that one was so cool, I wish they'ed made a toy of it.
>>11794405Yeah I can sort of see your point. I'm still not sure if emphasisizing the robotics of the design would have led to better results. I did try something like that with a redesign/reimagining of the titular character from the infamous "Robo Vampire".
>>11794425It makes you wonder what could have been. The show likely would have been successful enough to garner a second season, by which they'ed have to have come up with some new hybrids. Who's to say what those hybrids could have been? I bet the designers left all sorts of ideas on the cutting room floor.
>>11794433God damn that artwork is so cool
>>11794457>I bet the designers left all sorts of ideas on the cutting room floor.Well look at the dude in the front, I'd love to have seen a figure of that, and whatever the hell the one in the background is.>>11794458It is awesome, it's weird comparing the artwork to the actual figures, like on the left that's the bull alien and on the right is the Queen. The Queen especially looks so different from the figure.
>>11794115If you said you based this one on Mythic Legions parts, I'd totally believe it. I would only change one thing.Sallet Helm without the mouth plate.l.It would evoke the original Robocop head more.
What would you say is the best kenner Alien and Pred? Growing up I used to have the panther and bull alien and always liked the latter more. Also js someone mad people want to talk about other Robocop/AVP/Terminator lines or something? What's with the promo image spam?
>>11794476>What's with the promo image spam? It's NECA anon, he's a troll that has a meltdown whenever someone mentions NECA. He decided that because NECA does figures of these franchises that discussion should ONLY be about the NECA figures, and when people decided to ignore him he started throwing a tantrum and flooding the thread with promo shots. But back to the important question at hand, I love Renegade Predator for the screen accuracy of the sculpt, but I hold a special place in my heart for Cracked Tusk, he is such a badass looking Predator, with the vibrant orange tiger stripes, jagged silver armour and the chains, and the giant cannon, there's a very 90s almost Spawn feel to him. I always thought of him as the leader more than the Clan Leader figure.
>>11794486That's a weird rewritten history you just told! No wonder you can't keep control of the thread.
>>11794425Thats very common in that time to make an adult movie into kids toys. Everyone wanted to do the Star Wars merch thing.
>>11794486Ahh I see, weird.Anyway that pred is really cool, only one I had was a black one in gold armour.
>>11794451Very cool lore. One step away to become the Imperator from the Warhammer 40k universe sitting in his medical throne. That MK crossover skin is really cool. But i am not so sure is this now a Robocop or a Battlestar Galactica Cylon soldier in a robo ninja skin?
>>11794455I would just ditch the Pulp-Robocop and would call him Public Relation Robocop.
>>11794525>black one in gold armour.Nightstorm Predator (wicked fucking name)I have the Green and silver version Scavage. I always found it weird how without the mask the mandibles looked fairly symmetrical, but the holes on the mask are crazy. Also it just occurred to me that the mask might be designed to look like the spots for the mandibles would move. Which is a neat idea for a Predator mask, one with moving mouth parts.
>>11794539>Public Relation RobocopStick a sound chip in him that just says "stay out of trouble."
>>11794525It is weird that he lies like that
Heads up I got hit with a ban for reporting the spam, the mods do not care about thus board and are actively harming.I don't care if I get hit with a ban for this either.Don't let NECA anon tank these threads like he clearly wants too.Save the board, my final message, goodbye.
>>11794557I also received a warning.
>>11794557My dude, what is up with a delusional post as that?
I find it weird that they gave the Facehugger a face in Alien Resurrection.
>>11794476Best? For accuracy to the movies, Alien vs Predator 2 pack is an equal tie with Scorpion Alien and Scavage Predator. Those ones were the main ones I liked because they were the most "realistic". For fun toys that looked awesome, Flying Queen, Queen, Gorilla, Killer Crab and Cracked Tusk Pred. Honorary mentions go to the Queen Hive Playset and Mantis Alien, but I never owned them. >What's with the promo image spam? What zero bitches does to a mf.>>11794557I tried last thread, but nothing happened. I think I might just boycott the company and cancel the 40th anniversary figures I preordered at BBTS. I could buy a few of the Kenner Xenos with the money I'd save. His actions causing the company he is advertising to lose sales would be poetic justice.>>11794562I think that's just pareidolia. Facehuggers have details in that spot that almost correspond to what was sculpted on that toy.
>>11794586You do realize you are completely meaningless? Boycott. Miss out. It'll be more fun to watch you whimper about that.
>>11794586>I think that's just pareidolia.Probably, I'm gonna post a bunch of Facehuggers to compare different companies, but also to counterbalance NECA anon flooding the thread with crap.Starting with the McFarlane Facehugger that came with the 12 inch Big Chap (they put a couple huggers in there actually).
>>11794608Here is the Kenner Signature series one that came with the Newborn. This is the first one I ever noticed the "face" on. I think maybe Studio ADI went a little heavier on the detail for Resurrection's Facehuggers and it makes the front part stand out. The original Alien still has the best looking Hugger in the franchise.
>>11794611And Kenner really went to town putting the sculpt work in themselves, though I believe the inner part here is more based on the autopsy scene from the first film that what the Facehugger's underside regularly looks like. Clever way for Kenner to skirt around that eye raising detail.
>>11794613Comparison with one of the older Facehugger Kenner used to pack in with the Aliens figures. It was nice that they included these so your other toys could get hugged during play.
>>11794616And finally the Facehugger that came with the Lanard Dog Alien. It's actually a really well sculpted little piece, and does not shy away from the yonic details, which shouldn't be surprising considering the Rottweiler that came in the set is also anatomically complete.
>>11794586>I think I might just boycott the company and cancel the 40th anniversary figures I preordered at BBTS. I could buy a few of the Kenner Xenos with the money I'd save. That's actually a really good idea, anon. Honestly the fact that the Kenner figures which are over 30 years old at this point will still be less prone to breaking that NECA stuff coming out this year mean that the Kenner figures are just a better investment for your collection and a lot more fun to play around with.
>>11794622What an absolutely bizarre lie to tell someone. Do you have some kind of autistic fit when you touch toys?
>>11794469Good eye anon, both of those concepts were designed with customs in mind. Thing is I'm a novice so all I can really do is cook up proofs of concept. Mechanicop was intended to utilize the torso and head off the recent hasbro silver centurion coupled with the forearms and lower body off their comic ultron while Knight Robo was ML Doom limbs, a Black Knight head, amd a Mythic Legions torso.>Sallet HelmAugh that's such a better fit! Thanks for mentioning it.
>>11794476It's hard to choose at this point but I always lean towards the gorilla, panther, and crab. They just seem the most imaginative. It's also kind of funny how later installments tinkered with similar concepts. Alien Ressurection was supposed to follow a planet of monks facing off a xenomorph panthress with a sexy lady mouth for instance. Then there was the Predalien who sort of reminds me of the gorilla even if that wasnt their intent. Shit dude, you could float an entire toyline off rejected Aliens movie concepts.
>>11794532Thanks anon, letting my imagination wander has done alot of good in recent years since all that we get anymore tends to be pretty shit. MK really went wild with their Robo alts, some can venture pretty far from the standard look but I tend to appreciate that. They even had a few sort of Mad Max-y looks for him which is a combination I'm surprised hasnt happened more often.>But i am not so sure is this now a Robocop or a Battlestar Galactica Cylon soldier in a robo ninja skin?Maybe that's down to the colors? There's also blue and red ones. The cylon comparison really makes me appreciate the design all the more.>>11794539You might be onto something there
>>11794557The entire moderation crew hates this site and its users. At this point I live to defy them. Having fun to spite them and the shitstirrers is the ultimate win. We wont let you down anon.
>>11794642You're supporting a ban evader?
>>11794611I can see the "face" you are talking about. The prop had those details. Some of the concept art Giger drew had an eye roughly in that spot.>>11794613>>11794616>>11794617Nice comparisons. I haven't seen the Lanard one before. It is very detailed. That reminds me. I should call her.
>>11794682>Giger drew had an eye roughly in that spot. The older Kenner one seems to retain that detail, though I have no idea if it's intentional or not.
