Good afternoon friends. Earlier today I happened across some Beyblades on a casual stroll through the dollar store of all places, so I grabbed them on a whim. I don't know how to go about checking for any tournaments or anything, but I'm probably too old to show up at one and not seem out of place anyhow. I did look online and saw there was a huge resurgence happening right now though, and there are a ton of different pieces and specs and combos to do, and I think I might throw together 1-2 meta blades for fun but I don't know what most of the numbers mean. The two I got were Lance Knight 4-80HN and Wand Wizard 5-70DB. Are either of these any good as a starting point?

Personally I don't think it cheapens the "real" ones but then again I've never seen any of them for sale, probably because I'm not American. Those Disney beyblades are probably never going to be sold here, but even if they were they can be easily ignored if you're not interested. In fact most of them aren't going to be sold here. Finding new ones for sale is like drawing blood from a stone. Shops only had the four base models for months on end, and then they all started getting drip-fed new sets. I went to a great big supermarket in one of the busiest malls in the country, and one year later the exact same Lance Knight beys were still there where I left them. No new releases whatsoever.
And then suddenly everyone gets new, different shipments so I have to run from store to store to see what's up.
A store near me had Fox Brush, Fort Hornet, Wiggle Kraken and that Stag bey during Christmas time, but come January they were just gone. Not sold, just gone. Then they put up old twin-packs for months and now they put the CX beys back up. It's mental.

On the other hand I can't complain. At least they're still in shelves. Bakugan was shot in the head.

To answer your question I'd say one of my favorites to use are Knight's Shield on taper has been an old standby and with a 4-80 ratchet hasn't let my side. Painted Tyranno Beat is fun as fuck to use too.

It's the first letter of each word in the Bit's name.
Naming schemes are usually

So "Wizard Rod 5-70DB" is the Blade's name, a 5-sided, 7mm tall Ratchet, and the Disk Ball Bit.

Part names are getting more complicated, but most of them follow this structure.

If it's a BX or UX bey, the last letter refers to the bit(Ex: "Dran Sword 3-60F(Flat)")

However, if it's a CX bey, an extra letter is placed between the main name and the ratchet+bit name to refer to the Assist Blade(Ex: "Wizard Arc R(Round) 4-55LO"). Now, recently, Takara Tomy released the "Expand" line that add another letter to the CX beys that refers to the Over Blade(Ex: "Knight Fortress G(Guard)V 8-70UN").

There's this crazy piece of tech called a "notes app" on most smartphones. I use Keep on my android. I don't know what applefags use. You can write down separate lists for parts, and you can even add photos of the parts you have to cross-reference with new parts on store shelves.

That's trickier. With Hasbro releases and TT imports and fucky distribution, it's hard to know exactly what is available where and when. Your best bet is to check a fan wiki and make your own list.

I second reaper, kick really is that good, and since hasbro removed it from the crab 2 pack's leon it's the only option for it right now.
The blue Phoenix is the second heavier version of the blade mold, and includes hexa, which you'll want for your wolf. Phoenix is also really solid to use kick on.
I'd also recommend buster for the 1-60 ratchet.

The white Kick is the one everyone likes because it matches everything. They're either so incompetent that they shouldn't have any rights over Beyblade, or they're being spiteful and removing parts on purpose. Ratchets are bad enough, but there's no reason to change good bits into bad ones.
