Will the balance tip and more collectors start selecting cheaper figures over ones with more paint and articulation?
>>11797697If cheaper = better, than sure.
>>11797697If you lil bros can't afford $26 for an action figure, then fuck right off. I'm so sick of listening to this shit.
>>11797702Sorry, that's just how domestic American collectors are.Suggest anything over $30 and they throw a tantrum.Fair behaviour though, entire country was founded on people having a tantrum for having to pay a bit of money.
>>11797703Never been to Japan have you
>>11797697I hope so. Upward-pressure on prices is simply unsustainable. Current prices already have me buying substantially less than I did a decade ago. And I don't give a shit if some articulation like ugly torso joints are ditched.
>>11797697I'm glad im not a fan of anything and that toys can suck, so that I can enjoy buying the fewest of things while enjoying what I already have
>>11797697but the chronicle figures do have paint?also I feel like soon we'll see more blokee style figures where they make you put it together to cut even more cost
>>11797703>Whites refuse to be ripped off for toys>browns buy their 25th hundred-dollar Goku for the Goku shelf>the browns take pride in this and consider it a point of moral superioritylolSorry thirdie, no amount of overpriced gokus will turn you Japanese.
>>11797758The best Goku is $35 now
>>11797758>Whites refuse to be ripped off for toysWhite Final Fantasy fans will gladly pay $80 - $100 for a 7" figure that's only slightly different than the previous 100 versions of the same figure. And I don't get it. I'm a huge fan of the classic FF games, but the prices for the merch are full-retard.
>>11797757The Chronicles figures definitely have more paint than the average Marvel Legend. Could be just due to these being movie figures and they will get shittier over time. That seems to be a pattern with lines, start out good, then go to shit once you've captured an audience. Then reboot again, repeat. Like Masterverse started out better and then started getting worse and even cutting articulation like going to single jointed elbows for females. Despite being made in Vietnam and not China so the costs should be lower.
>ITT my stupid plastic toy buying habits are superior to your stupid toy buying habits.I'll never understand why a good majority of you are like this. Motherfuckers need to learn some damn humility.
>>11797702You rounded down to $26 when speaking about that toy. But clearly the actual price is really just 1 cent short of $27. Did you ever think about why you take that mental shortcut, and realize that is exactly why the companies set the prices at "$26.99" and not "$27.00"? You are being mentally manipulated and you don't even know it as evidenced by the rounding in your very post. You may not care about a dollar, but I assure you the corporations that make these toys know that dollars add up in aggregate and over hundreds, then thousands, then hundreds of thousands and then millions of figure purchases. An extra dollar does make a difference. That's why they manipulate you so you'll think you're getting a better deal than you are and buy more. But I suppose you are more concerned about looking wealthy and able to afford whatever action figure you want as some kind of point of pride in yourself. That's how you're kept in the rat race and kept from spending your money on things that matter far more than a $26.99 toy.
>>11797856>Crashing out over 99 cents You guys don't deserve toys.
>inb4 not your personal blog/see you tomorrow You faggots act like women. Toys shouldn’t be expensive. We’re all getting fleeced because the companies know adults are buying toys but they know the other shoe is about to drop with affordability which is why you’re seeing things like motu’s core line and other good $10-$15 products like Jakks. The adult collector market can not maintain $30 purchases for full waves of figures. >guess you shouldn’t buy toys thenCorrect which is about to happen to the whole market which is why companies are positioning to sell cheap toys that can appeal to adults and children. You guys are fags.
Imagine complaining about paying less that costs pennies to manufacture.
>>11797697No, but there is absolutely a market for both options. I was never a fan of the Origins stuff, but I liked the larger, more detailed Masterverse figures. But even they felts very cheap and simple. Make em a bit fancier and it's be a much more interesting line.
>>11797887Well the real issue is for the middle class people here who maintain that they're not poor and can afford collecting figures, once the prices hit a certain point (which we are not sure of) and the majority of collectors drop out of a line, the prices on that line will then need to skyrocket even higher and very quickly to justify its continued existence. This is because Hasbro/Mattel/Etc. will need to continue making enough money to keep at least previous profits, but the possible audience the collector figures will have will be much smaller. If they can't get money buy volume, they will need to get it by individual unit price. We can see a bit of a microcosm of this with McFarlane where they are making a lot less than they used to and started a $30 tier "Collector Edition" that went to $35 rather abruptly. And then they began a new $60 tier "Elite Edition".Hasbro started an Elite Edition equivalent in the Maximum line. Most likely Hasbro will start shifting more figures to the Maximum line if it becomes no longer feasible to sell as much volume in the regular ML line.Mattel's dual pronged strategy might be the worst for collectors hoping to maintain articulation and paint, because with the choice between core and collector, if we do reach a tipping point where a large amount of collectors can't afford to buy a lot of collector figures, they will just buy the core figures instead of spending more on the higher POA figures which could compromise the viability of the collector line. I assume Mattel has made them 5.5 and 6.5 to try to discourage any mix and match strategy though. Plenty of cases of collectors selling their whole collections though either when they've lost interest in a line, when they get fed up with its bad practices (DCMV) or when they move on to other hobbies, so it isn't an impossible barrier.
>>11797947Correction: *money by volumeBrain implosion there
>>11797697No? Why does there have to be a fight? Some people don't need super articulation on everything. Sometimes the simpler figure appeals to them, or makes a better desk toy.
>>11797713Why would Japan matter when discussing collectors of domestic American toys?
>>11797697personally these prices just push me further into even more expensive figures rather than cheaper onesi'm not paying $27 this season's he-man, but I will pay the $100 for the mondo one and just never look at buying another.
>>11798055In a world of limited resources, in a hobby of limited people, there is only so much money to go around. It's why exclusive licenses are favored by many companies, so customers don't have as many choices and thus the money isn't spread out among multiple companies making say DC or Marvel figures.
>>11798101It's all Motu. It's competing with itself.
>>11797904what the fuck are you saying ESL fuck?
>>11798189I’m sorry I’m drunk bitch fuck you and my wife. TOYS
>>11798100I get that. I like lame niche guys so I'm stuck buying cheap ghetto figures and then modding them...eventually.
>>11798074Nta but they're talking about how a lot of imports are $20 in Japan and gaijin get price gouged. It's not always true but sometimes it happens.
>>11798100That was my direction with Transformers, switched to MP almost exclusively. Even then there's still some double dipping, but since I prefer a hybrid of toy/animation and some original styling to animation accuracy, I've largely stuck to Any mainline or non-MP figures I get is mainly one-offs for the sake of being interested in their engineering.
>>11798100the irony of us suffering from raised prices but then we settle for something expensive instead
>>11798218Man, TF got so expensive that I stopped buying them completely. I used to buy a few figures here and there, but even the smaller characters aren't worth that asking price.
>>11798229Consumers are pretty fucking stupid in general. Just look at the car market.
>>11798211i highly doubt any imports are $20 anymore besides like Goku or Naruto to get people into the line and then the prices for the side characters skyrocket
>>11798383That’s not really the best comparison, consumers in the car market are at the mercy of what is offered. Most people need a car to get around for work or necessities, companies set prices and features because the consumer needs the product to survive. It’s why they get away with taking away the owner’s ability to do maintenance as they see fit.
>>11798570NTA but a lot of collectors are so addicted to collecting they can't imagine not buying figures, so it essentially becomes a situation where they just buy what is available uncritically.
Soon gas prices will be $7+ a gallon nationwide. There will be gas shortages, so even if you were willing to pay the outrageous price for gas, you may not be able to find any. The US will escalate the the Iran conflict. The US will enact the draft, leading to mass protests. High prices and gas shortages will lead to mass layoffs. At that point, most people will only be buying what is necessary for survival.
>>11798602forgot image
>>11798602ok doomerenacting a draft for iran would be the stupidest thing they could possibly do, support is already incredibly low for this war, draft dodging would reach highs unheard of and it would guarantee all the steps republicans have made to ensure they cling to power despite their currently unpopular policies are meaningless, because they would lose by a landslide for yearsthe only way you're getting a draft is if china decides to take taiwan
>>11798625>and it would guarantee all the steps republicans have made to ensure they cling to power despite their currently unpopular policies are meaningless,They walked back a ton of promises so I'm not sure why you think this is unheard of.A draft probably isn't happening though, but I can see screening eligible males and pressure to join the military and increased incentives
>>11798625>lose by a landslide for yearsThey don't care anymore because soon there won't be any more elections. All this chaos that is coming will lead to a new government run by ai.>the only way you're getting a draft is if china decides to take taiwanIt will actually take world war 3
>>11797697The real thing that nobody wants to acknowledge is that there aren’t as many kids being born as they used to do the very circumstances and the ones that do exist aren’t as interested in action figures and so the only ones that are going to collect are the more hard-core consumers I said product and the hard-core consumers of product are gonna want the more quality option. This is why I think companies like Hasbro should at least take a rest from more mainstream. General audience approaches to things like Transformers because that stuff does not generate as much as going for more collector oriented.. This is the black pill that most people don’t want to acknowledge of what’s going on, but it’s true. Nerds, i.e. toy collectors are not having sex and making children. Like I don’t like that Voyagers have gotten expensive for Transformers, but I’m actually been buying more than I have before because if I don’t do it now they’re going to only increase more. We might one day see the $55 Voyager transformer..
>>11798763Relationships are overrated anyway. And if you get into a toy-collector relationship, you have to worry about someone stealing your toys when you break up.
>>11798763>We might one day see the $55 Voyager transformer..At some point people just won't buy them in enough quantities to justify the line and it will just end. I don't know what that price point is but it surely exists as we can just look at hypothetical extremes.
>>11798772>Relationships are overrated anywayRelationships are an artificial construct designed to enslave humanity to the wealthy elite. Before we became enslaved, men had sex with multiple partners. Marriage only benefits females and the elite. It gives them power over the man.
>>11797856The goyum doesn't realize he's been domesticated, and even lashes out against deprogramming.Sad
>>11797700It depends on what. I have no interest in One Piece but grabbed the Netflix Luffy figure for $6 on clearance when I picked up a Crazylegs Joe for $27.99.
>>11798763Kids would be getting more toys if they were more affordable to their parents and their parents had more space and housing to actually hold toys.It doesn't help that the few people having kids can often barely afford them. It's why ipads have gotten so popular, there's a bunch of them in the market and people often get them with phone plans so they have extras, and there's free entertainment on it.
