I was thinking about getting back into model trains recently now that im older. Was surprised to see the vast majority of stuff is ready to roll now. The old blue boxes are gone but their are a ton of them on ebay unfinished.

Model railroading is somewhere between /diy/ and /toy/. I love the wiring and switches and accessory wiring and shit the most.

Me and my brother used to have a really amatuer circuit layout built on thin plywood with whatever 00 gauge Hornby sets we could get cheap at the time + some accessories and other locos. Since dismantled but kept all the parts with my folks and would love to rebuild into something more professional and modular/easy to store away. I would definitely look into getting stuff preowned + 3D printing if I were to start from scratch now though desu.

You should check out model railway exhibitions or even just YouTube, loads of layouts look astonishingly good. Someone made a step-by-step tutorial series recreating the Thomas creator's layout.

Going to my first open house at my local club. Really want to make a good impression and see what the members are like; it should be pretty casual since they added Thomas to the flyer pictures.

There are train threads about every two to three weeks. There's probably serious, truly serious - spend the money serious - from a very few people and very few of them come to a place like this Mongolian basket weaving picture puzzle paradise

that all said, there's nothing wrong with the occasional bringing up of toys trains for a thread on /toys/

I wish American OO was more popular.

hopefully you relaxed and enjoyed at least looking at toys, if they had any on display

I found this on Twitter just now, under a James May tweet, looked cool for "L-scale":

Does anyone have experience with z gauge? Is the track that comes with the rokuhan super shorty starter kits compatible with normal rokuhan z gauge track?
