Why does collecting /toy/s carry the stigma of "virgin loser"?
>>
>>11798973
oh no im turning 40 next month
>>
>>11798973
Autism

>>11798974
I'm two years out. Assuming sucking dick doesn't count.
>>
>>11798973
You need money which implies no kids or significant other
>>
>>11798980
>You need money
pretty sure this is what a lot of women are after. so that doesn't track.
>>
>>11798973
I've got 10 more years until I finally achieve his legendary status
>>
>>11798980
>>11798981
Women just see them as dolls and see why the collector is the virgin. Its sort of a feed back loop. Like look at most of that stuff. It looks like little kid toys and girl doll versions of Universal monsters. Like I can appreciate that but women just see an immature guy with issues. Youre really better off not having a collection until after your heavily committed to someone. They can be there to support you and tell you not to buy ugly dolls from the 80s. I feel liek he should have leaned into the bust aspect of his interst more. The creature bust at the top looks immaculate. You could realistically make that work in a home theater. Home theaters are also cool and women like them.
>>
>>11798981
Nta but he means you *have* money. Someone with big spending habits is either flush or a "bachelor".
>>
>>11798973
It's because the makers of 40YOV would never be into the type of chick who's a collector herself. In the movie we see lots of female archetypes but notably missing is the nerd freak type (maybe the girl in the flashback but that's just going off her hardware). Because they would never see one of those girls as desirable, the movie ignores their very real place in the virginal collector nerd ecosystem.
>>
>>11798981
Women often times find status more attractive than looks. Status can mean several things but it often times translates into money. A common female tactic is to shame others by calling them virgins/losers. Females use shame as a weapon on eachother all the time since they tend to operate by hivemind rules hence why they try to use it on men as well. All that money spent on toys could've been used on her or a home for her and her potential spawn, hence the negative stigma. At least thats my take on it. Though to be fair I'm not sure how many actual Chads are in this hobby to begin with and toys collecting is often a nerdy hobby. Also there are women who collect toys and model kits so not all of them are like that. Personally I've met two girls that thought my gundam model kit was cool :)
>>
>>11799008
>Personally I've met two girls that thought my gundam model kit was cool :)
cool enough to drop panties or pat you on the back and say "neat stuff, bro"?
>>
>>11798973
Because toys are mostly for kids, and being into things that kids are into is usually an indicator of stunted development and/or some sort of disorder/neurodivergence
>>
>>11799023
>Because toys are mostly for kid
but throwing a ball around in the backyard...isn't?
are all guys who are into sports exempt from this universal rule about things for kids representing an adult disorder?
what about video games?
what about ice cream with sprinkles?
what about having a birthday party?
what about telling someone to pull your finger then farting?
what about reading a comic book?
what about watching looney tunes?
no, that doesn't track either. nice try.

M-maybe both! Umm...I-I guess... ( ;°-°)
The first was the girl at the counter who rang me up. She told me the picture on the gundam Calibarn box looked cool and after a small talk I told her she should watch the anime sometime too :)
The second is my cousin lel. I sent her a couple of pics of it when I finished it and she thought it was really cool. She's liked my toys since I was a kid so she's toy friendly I suppose ^_^
>>
>>11799008
That's a pretty good summary, well done anon
>>
>>11799031
bruh
>>
>>11798973
Appropriately, this is the sort of thread that would've made sense 20 years ago when this movie came out rather than today where everyone's collecting something and most toy reviewers you know are married with children. I've personally known women who collect funkos, anime figures, pokemon plushes, etc. Nerd culture going mainstream may be a double-edged sword that's done more harm than good in some respects, but it's greatly helped acceptability.

All that said... >>11799008
>All that money spent on toys could've been used on her or a home for her and her potential spawn, hence the negative stigma.
This is a great point and serves as an explanation for women's disdain for most hobbies that a man enjoys that don't involve her. Sometimes it's the money spent, others it's the time.

>>

no it isn't. oh wait yeah totally chicks are none for being disgusted by guys who are into cars and motorcycles and spend time and money on them. that ol' stereotypical scene of a guy pulling up in some badass car and then girls are like "ew gross that weirdo has a super nice and fast car what a loser"
>>
>>11799076
Yes, because a guy with an expensive car he can use to take her places and that she can show off to all her friends as a status symbol is the same thing as a collection that stays in the privacy of the home and doesn't benefit her in any way, right? Jesus Christ.
>>
>>11799093

>>
>>11799001
True. Lost v-card at 30 with current gf that is the typical nendo/anime figure/plushy nerd.
>>
>>11799107
>Lost v-card at 30 with current gf
That's sad. She has sucked and fucked miles of cock before you but you lost your virginity to her. Really sick dynamic.
>>
>>11799108
Not that Anon but i doubt it since she was the nerd type.
>>
>>11799133
They're freaks of a different kind

I mean, I'm into that, but I know some anon would get weird tingles in his tummy if he thought about his perfect virgin waifu using a giant silicone ovipositor on herself while reading Alien fanfiction
>>
>>11799133
>i doubt it since she was the nerd type.
you've got a lot to learn, kiddo
>>
>>11798973
There's a shred of truth in every stereotype, whether positive or negative. We may have wives and children and lead normal lives, but it's in people's natures to fixate on the unusual. If they want to see collectors as misfits, then that's all they're going to see.
>>
Because that's the first-order approximation of reality. Some people really are like that and they're the more vocal or visible ones.

I've been in a happy relationship for a decade now, but prior to that had my fair share of hookups. So much money spent buying expensive cocktails in shitty clubs and pubs.. my toy "costs" barely compare, and they don't end up as puke by a club in Seoul, Berlin or Chicago.
Having a couple figures on my desk makes me happy. Creating some scenes and finding cool props for the figures makes me happy. Building simple model kits makes me happy. That's it.
>>
>>11798995
girls used toys as a practice for real life. girls dating boys, going on dates, riding in nice cars and living in big houses, and riding horses. everything they do as youths are in preparation to take from a man. they have no need for toys as a man is her comfort.

as boys we played to have fun, harness our imagination, live grand lives of adventure, heroic actions, self sacrifice, being a bad ass, and being other people. its no wonder we get taken for fools as we grow up and women were ready from day one to take what they want from us.
>>

My kid is in college so there's proof it happened once. And yeah, I collected toys and comics then so Ive always been a dork.

Nta but I think he was suggesting that maybe you didn't keep your eye on the ball. Maybe your back swing was off, your follow through was flat.
It's a sports analogy but grown men enjoy sports and we are all grown men here.

You're practicing a sport or bonding with your kid/s. So yeah it isnt
>are all guys who are into sports exempt from this universal rule about things for kids representing an adult disorder?
Where's the ESPN, FSN, etc for toys?
>what about video games?
When games are rated M for Mature, they're no different from Rated R movies.
>what about ice cream with sprinkles?
Sure, why not? I prefer nuts, sauce and wafer rolls
>what about having a birthday party?
If you hire a clown, decorate with some kiddy thing, then yes
>what about telling someone to pull your finger then farting?
That's immature.
>what about reading a comic book?
They make mature comics too

Looney Tunes were made for adults, but nobody recognizes that anymore

Literally who cares, why do you care about being perceived as a virgin loser for collecting toys? If that bothers you so much just do exercises, be healthy and develop a good sense of fashion, never be ashamed of your hobbies
>>
>>11798973
If I cant fuck it, fight it, or feed it it shouldnt exist.
This fag & his toys are 0/3.
>>
>>11798973
Because just like video games they are meant for children, they just release more expensive versions to make the adults justify buying toys calling them ``collectibles``, The virgin part comes from the idea of a person being so absorbed by his hobby that they just ignore the rest of their lives focusing in that particular thing only and since they are not developing a skill or being productive in some way they are considered losers
>>
most people here got it right
i want to point something too, most of the people who hoard and collect too much toys are usually fucked up i used to stalk people -not proud of it- but the more toys they had the more pathetic and mentally fucked up they were
especially trannies and women, the "manlier" the toys the healthier you are
>>
>>11799023
Have you said or replied again on this thread? And which ones
>>
>>11799380
I'm sorry, you used to stalk people because you had too many toys or you know people who have a lot of toys are mentally fucked up because you stalked them? And what are you considering too many toys?

Sports were originally created for and practiced by grown men
>what about ice cream with sprinkles?
Gay
>what about having a birthday party?
Depends on the party, if it's like a kid's birthday with party hats, balloons and shit like that it's cringe
>what about telling someone to pull your finger then farting?
That's stupid
>what about video games?
>what about reading a comic book?
>what about watching looney tunes?
Video games, comic books and cartoons are seen as virgin loser and/or autist hobbies by most people so not sure what your argument is
>>
>>11799492
>Video games are seen as virgin loser and/or autist hobbies by most people so not sure what your argument is
Video games are peak normalfag and have been for years. They out earn the film and music industries combined. Agree with the rest.
>>
>>11799502
Guys that are really into Nintendo (who mostly make kiddy/child friendly games) are seen as autistic manchildren though
>>
>>11799355
It's ironic how men here constantly give women shit for being so easily influenced and obsessed with public perception, then are ready to give up/hide something harmless they enjoy to appeal to them.
>>
>>11799509
That's not really the same thing as being a fan of video games. That's being a fan of Nintendo who are basically the Disney of the video games industry.
>>
>>11799551
That doesn't change the core of my argument though, that adults into things targeted at children are perceived as losers. Nintendo is massive pillar of the video game industry, the most well-known video game company and pretty much the face of video games, so you cannot divorce it from video games in general
>>
>>11799570
Sure, I'm just pointing out that not all gamers need to be fans of Nintendo.
>>
>>11799570
>Nintendo is massive pillar of the video game industry, the most well-known video game company and pretty much the face of video games, so you cannot divorce it from video games in general
Eh, not really. Sony eclipsed Nintendo a while ago. While I agree the type of games you prefer changes how you're perceived and Nintendo games are seen as juvenile for the most part, I was thinking more mainstream dudebro games like COD, GTA, Assassin's Creed, Gears/God of War, fighting games, sports games, and so on. And in women's case, Sims and mobile games. It's very easy to divorce Nintendo from all that.
>>
You could be the biggest nerd in the world but if youre over 6 foot tall and muscular you can get pretty much any woman you want. This guy just needed to looks max amd work out. Then he could have the toys and the girl. He can also look in the mirror every day and know he's the best version of himself.
>>
>>11799001
>>11799107
I haven't been a virgin since I was 18 and the only reason it happened then, versus earlier, was religious upbringing. The closest I dated to a collector type personality was someone into film once and another time, some really into music (expensive stereo, ridiculous speakers, lots of CDs and vinyl, etc.). I have friends into comics, or toys, or some other nerd hobby (cards, vidya, etc.) but these are people I hang out with - not date much less fuck around with.

tl;dr the movie was as artificial as Big Bang Theory - why worry about it?

Isn't this the one where the guy couldn't even provide any source? I almost confused it for this one from the one where they polled a whopping 840 women that the makers themselves admitted were from the same type of social class. Still, results are similar except video games not even being in bottom 15, which makes sense with how normalized they are. And funko collecting rather than action figures/figurines in general.

Something no one here seems to have considered or brought up is the fact that many, if not most, women don't have and flat out don't understand having hobbies and that often seems to be one of the root causes for them to attack men and try to belittle them for having hobbies no matter what it may be

Why? Because you said so without any further elaboration?

And you seriously don't know the difference between how men and women shop? Women don't have a plan. They'll see that their friend Stacy has a Live, Laugh, Love poster and because women follow trends, they'll get one too to be up to date regardless if whether she actually needs it or if it will truly bring her happiness. They'll go to an in-person or online store and will be there for eternity just browsing aimlessly and leaving with shit just for the sake of it. Men on the other hand want one thing, will be in and out with that thing in hand in five minutes, do multiple calculations in their head on what purpose the thing serves to decide if it's worth it, and become autistically obsessed with the history behind said thing from what wave the figure is in or the subtle signs that make it authentic.

No, it doesn't. If a guy sees their friend wasting their money on Funkos, Pokémon cards, or coomer anime statues, he's more likely to make fun of him instead of aping him. Now if they both share the same love of say, Dragon Ball, one will "copy" the other out of genuine love for the IP instead of social status.
>this sounds like 90% of guys buying action figures
>tell me you have never walked into a hardware store without telling me you have never walked into a hardware store
That's a skill issue on the part of those particular men because men are supposed to collect with purpose instead of for the sake of it.

It could be argued in same way for boys, that boys are just training to die in future wars for their countries, considering the majority of their toys likely military adjacent. Boys hitting each other with sticks, shooting imaginary sticks, fighting, playing with small army men, etc, all of it just a big prep for a future soldier boy.
