He wasn't even wandering a wasteland Kenshiro style.
He was fighting more or less normal stuff like bank robbers, burning buildings, terrorists, things like that. Morphed non-stop for a few years.
In the story the only thing that's majorly fucked up is the moon after the Rangers launched an offensive on Rita's Palace and blew it the fuck up after her and Zedd destroyed Zordon, Alpha, and the Command Center.

Just a little bit. He became a firefighter after they won the war and everyone agreed to stop being Power Rangers. Then there was an arson that killed a bunch of people, and he felt like he could have done more to help if he were using the Power, and started morphing again.
Billy and Zach were the only ones that were even occasionally morphing, for science or charity, and he asked them to stop so it wouldn't tax the morphing grid or something, and he could stay morphed 24/7.
Which explains why his helmet that would have repaired in between morphs has a scar, but the Power Sword doubling in mass never gets addressed in any way.

I recommend reading the story, it's decent, like a slightly better version of Once and Always, and won't take more than an hour to finish.

It's not bad, but compared to the newer SMPs, it's a bit on the small side. The hands are awful-looking, though. it could definitely use the serious effort the latest SMPs have been getting after they ditched this being a candy toyline.

Somehow, the wrapping on the handle bothers me even more. He's already wearing gloves, and it's already a magic weapon coded to his powers. Why does he have to worry about having a solid grip? I get it, it's post-apocalyptic for the sake of it, but damn.

The suits do take damage and the weapons presumably do too. Maybe unmorphing triggers some kind self repair sequence once the suits and weapons reintegrate back into the Morphin' Grid. If Jason was morphed constantly, then maybe he'd have to add stuff like wrapping the grip over time to make up for all the wear and tear. But the actual reason is that it just looks cool, which is the most important thing in Power Rangers at the end of the day.
