I fucking hate preorders so fucking much. I dont want to purchase some figure and not get it for six months at least after. Even when things arent a preorder you have sites like EE and amazon that take way too long to ship out anything for whole weeks at a time. I want immediate gratification and the toy industry is trying its damndest to make that impossible and force everything into being a shitty preorder out retardation and what i can only chalk up as sheer laziness on their part. Why are companies so lazy now? Thats the only reason why i can figure the intent behind trying to manhandle the system to forcibly make preorders the standard going forward, because companies are cheap lazy bastards that want to drag their feet to produce/ship out anything like the inept faggots they are.
>>11810695You can pretty much get by fine without preordering anything but the most limited/exclusive figures. There's so much to buy nowadays, I rather pick up something that's already available and wait for reviews to make sure there's no surprise QC issues on the unreleased stuff I'm interested in. Haven't preordered anything for a few years now and can usually find most figures for around retail or less down the line after release.
>>11810695Because toys used to be something you have on a shelf and the kid the parent's had to take with them kicks and screams until you had to buy it from them. Now that you have adults with way too much money "collecting" them, they can force you to preorder to avoid FOMO, charge you exorbitant prices to suck all your disposable income, and they hardly have to deliver on their promises because you autistic manchildren will continue throwing money at them regardless. Stop preordering things and only buy them in the store if you want companies to stop preorders.
>>11810713Depends, certain SHF anime stuff is becoming harder to get for retail and going for insane prices when they come out.
>>11810695I want it all to crash so it can go back to the 90s and have simple figures with unique sculpts for $5-$7 a piece, the whole field is perverted and bloated, I really can't be bothered to keep up with anything anymore, even though neca and nacelle have a lot of cool shit coming at the end of the year or next summer, it's just so far out I stop giving a shit about the franchise/collection
>>11810720it's the kind of situation that makes you wonder why it's worth collecting any of it when the company is so happy to fuck you around and act like it's out of their control
>>11810785>I want it all to crash so it can go back to the 90s and have simple figures with unique sculpts for $5-$7 a piece, the whole field is perverted and bloated, I really can't be bothered to keep up with anything anymoreI agree actually, personally my favorite toys are the ones meant for play. I cant stand how much more the toy market is dominated by collector grade sloppa now. Its why kids dont want to buy toys because everything is aimed at 40 year old dads and all figures are oversized and cost 27$. I like some of the more modern generic core toy lines and lately im glad theyre making more stuff for stuff like actionverse or MOTU core but i still think making the standard all be 6 or 7 inch figures that cost too much and are overly articulated at times is suffocating the toy market.
>>11810716I don't have any stores that sell figma, super action statue or sh figuarts.
>>11810796try your local asian mall
>>11810695>I want immediate gratificationSorry Tyrone, these shipping companies run on black time.
>lol bro is crashing out and throwing a temper tantrum because he can't his little plastic army man right fucking nowHoly shit. It's because of cringelords like OP that toy collection has the stigma attached to it that it does. Thanks for being the stereotype to life.
>>11810985>WAAGHHHHHHH DONT BESMIRCH MY TOY CORPOKill yourself nigger
>>11810986Where the fuck did even say that? Impatient and stupid. Shocking.
>>11810695If you don't want it in six months because you can't wait, you don't actually want it. POs are honestly healthy for the lot of you who will just fill your house with cheap impulse bought shit because it's "playable". Meanwhile you'll put money into gas(or, lets be real, have your mom drive you around) hunting for figures and keep coming up empty, instead of having the sure bet with free or cheap shipping half the time.
>>11811027Genuinely I think /toy/ has the lowest collective IQ on the whole site. It's shocking how short sighted and stupid some of these people are.
>>11810990Toys shouldn't take this long to come out, preorders are retarded and figures have taken increasingly longer to get produced and released lately. I am entirely in the right so fuck you cocksucker>>11811027>If you don't want it in six months because you can't wait, you don't actually want it.Figures shouldn't take six months to come out now, and fuck companies like mattel or hasbro for making that the norm these days
>>11810785>>11810795I wish I could be satisfied with cheap figures, but inflation and just general changes in production means we're unlikely to see things get as decent as they were back in the day. Like it's an extreme example because many of the 2000's era Spawn figures were statues, but a lot of that late 90's/early 2000's era McFarlane could still have 5PoA and a ton of beautiful paint that made the figures seem better than they were. They cost about the same as most kid's toys of the time. That can't even be done at scale on a collector's line now even with their pricing. The Mattel DC kid's line looks promising, but $13 is still something that adds up quick. 3 figures for $10 will always seem like a significantly better deal than 3 for $39. I think people in general measure figures on a scale of $20 or so.
>>11811043>Figures shouldn't take six months to come out nowToys have always had long dev cycles and preorder times. The difference is in the 90's and 2000's you were a kid or not online savvy and not privy to these things. If you were online you could often track this info, or even preorder things months in advance through some retailers. Before then these things were only really known to retailers and vendors so they could order for themselves. Now you're able to see things as early as the proto stage. There's less reason to keep things behind doors for so long. because the retail landscape doesn't exist like it used to.
>>11810820>try your local asian mallThat would be a ferry/drive or plane journey as it's 500 miles away. I live on a island that doesn't have a mall.
>>11810789Yeash, why companies can't control scalpers?!
>>11810695>preorder a figure that comes out in may>may passes>look at the order>it's may 2027
>>11810720The P-Bandai stuff, definitely. Can usually get the standard releases either imported if I want multiple figures or domestically since it's now cheaper than shipping + tariffs for a single figure from Japan. I did, just now, get bit on the Savage Crucible Elric figure, though. Had no idea it'd be that good or go for more than double on the aftermarket almost immediately.
>>11811043Are you pretending to be retarded?
>>11810695everything is prohibitively expensive now for most people, toys too, and they have to be made to order to even begin operating at a profit. Hot Toys can't over produce figures without a care anymore, and to[spoiler]tores in general are almost non existent. Part of it is greed like with hasbro's kickstarters, but most of it is just pragmatism. You simply cannot take risks anymore.
>>11811046As an import collector, I'm assuming the figure in that pic is like $80
>>11810695I like that Transformers and Marvel Legends are pre-orderable now. I dont want them, but now everything is comparably more available before Toys R Us closed forever
Its getting too ridiculous now. Preorders and regular orders keep getting delayed for no good reason and nothing ever gets shipped to physical stores anymore lately either. Does every major toy company want to go out of business? Why are these lazy niggers refusing to make and release new product? This is fucking retarded how lazy they have all gotten.
Its like no one wants to make action figures anymore. A bunch of stuff is supposed to be released but its turning into vaporware at this point. I fucking hate this hobby and i dont even enjoy collecting anymore since i cant even obtain anything anymore
>>11821327Heh maybe it's because I'm new to the hobby but it's way better than movies where you hear leaks about a movie 2 years before you see it
you dont have this problem when you pre order a lot of toys, i have new toys every month now. dont be poor and pre order all the toys and you will have toys delivered every day
I feel this waiting for my sad salesman sky guy
I just hate having to preorder domestic shit like GI Joes. They just aren't exciting enough to live up to the wait/hype cycle. They work much better as a fun thing you happen to find at the store. But a lot of the classified shit doesn't even make it to shelves.
>>11810695The only figure i've ever preordered was the Play Arts Kai remake Tifa, it was a mistake. Had to wait like almost a year and a half, and the first batch of figures looked like shit, mine turned out alright luckily, but i'm never preordering again
>>11810713This is not the case. With many imports if you don't preorder you have no chance to get it at all except at obscene BBTS or EE prices. The stores that offer at low prices sell out quickly and often get no spare copies beyond what was preordered. It may hold for many domestic lines but domestics generally have trash quality anyway that in an ideal world we wouldn't have to put up with.
>>11820580Not him but it was a bit over 10 bucks in its day kek. Certainly not even $20
>>11821279Retail doesn't want figures that pegwarm which they got burnt on hard back in the early 2020s so they are ordering very limited quantities if that. Retail no longer want to be the easy out for people waiting for clearance and thus many Walmarts and Targets stopped stocking stuff like Classified or Legends beyond a single peg worth of a season's exclusive figure.
I stopped preordering stuff like a decade ago
