Is the "ACKS No.MP-01 Patlabor 1/43 AV-98 Ingram Type 1 + Type 98 Special Command Vehicle Set Plastic Model" a good purchase / pre-order? I've always wanted an AV-98 but could never make up my mind about which one since there are so many of them by now. Is there one that is more accurate to the actual design?

I've been too cautious in the past and end missing up on pre-orders, but I also don't like dealing with buyers' remorse, nor like having more than one item per character / mecha. Basically I'm looking for an excuse to not jump the gun and pre-order it, specially since I've cancelled one too many orders lately and might be getting close to an unfavourable standing at AmiAmi (and it's hard to cancel at HobbySearch).

How complicated would this set be? I was looking around for a simple zaku to build up, saw the thunderbolt version and really dug it, but seems it's only part of a fancy/deluxe set.

They value retaining a customer over short-term profits, because you getting pissed and spreading word of mouth would mean they get fewer customers in the future, whereas you telling others about the good customer service of this as-yet-unnamed vendor means they might get additional future customers (and thus increased profits).

And truth be told, eating the cost of the kit is probably better than eating the shipping cost of having you send the kit back.

Quick question, could the Hyaku Shiki work as an RG kit?
>>
>>11821697
Why shouldn't it work?
>>
>>11821697
The problem with that is that it's almost certainly going to be chrome coated, which will drive up its price like the Akatsuki. And unlike the Akatsuki, it doesn't have a huge amount of cool and flashy gimmicks to justify the price, just the Mega Bazooka Launcher which will probably be separately sold as P-Bandai.

Bandai has proven that they're willing to make RG kits for nostalgia's sake (as they recently released the RG Shining to minimal fanfare), and Zeta ranks pretty high when it comes to UC love (though still below CCA and Unicorn). So I'd say the chances of a RG Hyaku-Shiki are pretty high, though it'll probably cost a pretty penny. Bandai already tried to cut costs on the Akatsuki by issuing it with the Strike frame, and it still costs a metric fuckton. The Hyaku-Shiki would have to be built from the ground-up unless they pull the same bullshit they did with the Sinanju and re-use an existing RG frame.
>>
>>11821846
Also, the chrome plating adds weight, which led to disastrous results in the RG Akatsuki's MS Joints reused from the nearly old enough to post RG Strike Gundam. When Bandai uses chrome plating on the RG Shiki, they better give it a sturdier than average inner frame to handle the added weight of said plating.
>>
>>11821887
>chrome plating adds weight
That sounds utterly nonsensical given that painting with metallic colors doesn't add any appreciable weight to the model and the micron-thin metallic plating should add even less material.
>>
>>11821896
I think the old rg frames are just a disaster in general, the only one that seems to hold up okay is the mk-2.
>>
>>11821900
Z'Gok is pretty okay too in my experience.
>>
Anyone have tips for special coating or clear version kits?
I'm going to be in Japan for two weeks and want to pick up the limited RG Epyon and Wing Zero EW kits from Gundam Base, but I'm a bit new and unsure if there's anything I should know about them first.
>>
>>11821431
>>11821492
If it's any consolation, the Z'Goks aren't something absurdly expensive although they're nice kits, I don't think the store suffered a huge loss because of it
>>
>>11822172
With clear kits, you'll want a nano glass file (like a Raser or Siren) for cleaning up the nubs. I'm told the Siren is closer to a traditional steel file in how you're supposed to use it, but I've been using mine 'generally' to good effect on all my kits since getting it.
>>
>>11822172
Clear plastic is significantly more brittle than regular plastic, so you have to be quite careful cutting the pieces. The stress marks are also super obvious unless you clear the nubs with a glass file, and even then you have to give enough distance. As the super modeling anon recommended some time ago, an agate knife is super handy for removing nub stress marks.

And yeah, you'll probably have to live with not being able to color correct with paint, unless the pieces are white/true clear and you have a good collection of clear paints.
>>
>>11822211
>>11822210
Thanks for the tips! I'll likely grab the HG Clear Wing instead of the RG EW one so I won't feel as bad if I mess up on it then.

Hi.
Some gunpla kits have decals and some Bandai plastic kits have stickers.
Is there a particular tweezer best for removing and applying stickers? Same with applying decals to harder to reach spots?
I know finger oils can ruin the adhesive of a sticker so if I encounter them I’d like a good tweezer for the job.
I remember trying with Lego stickers and never seemed to get it right so that’s why I am asking here.

So any specific tweezers for the job or aspects of a tweezer to look out for when shopping on Amazon?

I read the OP guides and know not to build while sick or naked or both.

when doing weathering, less is more
I think you went too far with this attempt, not that it is bad, but when doing that look, it is better to be more precise and apply the wornout look in surfaces and areas that are more prone to end up like that, like edges of armor or only specific faces of certain armor plates, instead of just weathering everything, as it simply looks dirty

Specifically like pic related or the Gundam Alex, getting more shoulder articulation and what not.
>>
>>11828426
Yeah, you'll probably want to get a pre-made frame and then use knifework to cut the armor and frame down so that they can be mated together. Unless you're a god-tier scratchbuilder, you probably won't be able to accomplish it on your own, so it's better to have a good portion of the work done for you.

I’m iffy on the makeup and beauty glass files for nail filing.

>>
>>11830003
I bought a generic pack of three off of Amazon about three years ago, and I'm still using the first one. It's definitely scratched all to hell and back, but it still works.

As for stress marks, removing those is just a matter of using a hobby knife instead of nipper to cut away remaining nub, and then filing the remainder down. If you're filing down from a nipper cut, you either want to leave at least 2mm of nub to file down from, or push down hard on the stress mark with an agate knife.
>>
>>11830003
I've used:
Dspiae siren (and the big one)
Stedi raser knock off
Gunprimer raser and origin

They all can scratch your model if you don't use them right. They all work well enough for models, but Gunprimer is by far the best and comfiest. However, they all have a learning curve.
For dspiae and standard monodirectional files: never go back and forth, only shave in one direction.
For stedi and gunprimer: You can go back and forth, but make sure to ONLY shave off nubs and stop when you get to the piece because it's super easy to scratch parts.
Also you don't need to apply force. The file itself will do all the work, in fact applying too much force (which is a very easy mistake to make) can damage your file. Not a big deal for the dspiae or stedi ones, but the raser is expensive (and worth it) enough to be protected.

>>
>>11834182
If you can find the space, try adding weights inside the legs (ball bearings and fishing weights are often used for that). It'll make it much more stable in standing poses. But it won't help with a kicking pose like your pic bc the weights of both legs would cancel each other.
The tradeoff is that it's more risky to put it on an action base if it gets too heavy, but most action bases aren't that fragile so it's usually fine unless the base kit is already heavy.

>The tradeoff is that it's more risky to put it on an action base if it gets too heavy, but most action bases aren't that fragile so it's usually fine unless the base kit is already heavy.
You could always weigh down the base and reinforce the stand too.

>It'll make it much more stable in standing poses.
He can do standing and boxing poses just fine. I only suggested he became an action figure because it would evenly distribute the weight. The only reason the pose is hard to do is because all the weight is in the hair and no matter how much I move and bend the hair to the center. In the kicking pic I have to move the ankle rocker of the standing leg at an angle just to balance the center of gravity. The only questionable design I notice was the toe hinge. As you can see in the pic that is the max range the toe can go upward. But it can go downward alot for some reason. Really weird choice for a boxer character. I honestly dont know what kind of poses a downward toe can do.

Anyway, he's a boxer my mistake for expecting he can kick. But it would have been a lot cooler if he can. Overall I'm satsified but I am still hoping some chinese company would make a (bootleg) actual action figure out of him like Kotobukiya's Lumitea or even an official one.
