Bakugan is getting a 20th anniversary celebration in 2027. The 2026 Last Vegas licensing expo had a Bakugan booth showing off prototype statues and funko pops. AFAIK no proper Bakugan toys were shown as it was for merch licensing only. It's been making me think what Spinmaster could do if they actually are making new toys. The possibilities are kind of exciting as this line seems to be targeting adult collectors instead of very young children like G2 and especially G3. Off the top of my head the possibilities are:>Reissue: re-release of B1 main characters and maybe ONE deepcut like Leonidas. Would have some sort of marking like gold foil G-power to identify it as a replica. Would use reverse engineering like the recent Star Wars and Transformers vintage figures as the original molds have been destroyed. >Premium re-release: Similar to above but with some sort of gimmick like Premium paint, LED eyes or full Die-cast construction. >“Masterpiece” Bakugan: High end redesign that aligns closer to the animation art. Similar to Bakumorph or Bakutech but with modern engineering and adult collector budgets at B1/B2 size. >Preview Bakugan: The first release of G4 or the movie toyline in a chase color. This is probably the most likelyMerch only anniversary: Nothing but the statues and funko pops like in the merch leak, just designed to gage adult interest in the brand. What would make you pick up Bakugan again after what happened with G3?
>>11822221For the sake of everyone in their late twenties I hope this lime takes off. It'd be nice to see more aughties IP's getting the limelight for once. I'm still surprised there was no attempt to celebrate Medabots' 20th or 25th anniversaries.
>>11822413Waiting for the xiaolin showdown revival.
For me to get back into Bakugan after G2 was murdered and G3 was stillborn (I wanted to buy G3s, they never came out in my country. I have ONE that came with a magazine and never got more because I was too cheap to buy the other magazines), they have to bring the Ultra Bakugan quality in line with Wave 1 of G2. After that, the Ultras became way too cheap because they all had to accommodate that weird flap they used to add baku-gear. That's bullshit. Wave 1 has amazing ultras. Lupitheon, Kerbeos, Pegatrix, Serpenteze, and those are just the ones whose names I remember. The gargoyle, spider, kraken, swordsman, so many good designs. That's not too say regular bakugans are bad. I also want a good mix of ultras and regulars (so long as they're all the same size), especially if they're in the same level of quality as Cubbo, that sphinx, that weird eagle with the wings.tldr: quality designs, no oversimplification because of gimmicks.
>>11822415It happened about 15 years ago on Disney XD
>>11822469Oh God, I forgot that even happened. It was awful too.
>>11822441G2 Ultras with G1 sculpting style would be perfect IMO. The G2/G3 aesthetic is so cheap looking that it ruins a lot of the good designs.
G3 was such an embarrassment, i hope they know that.
>>11822223>top shelfUgh, they're releasing those shelfwarmers again? Bring back the New Vestroia action line instead
>>11822512I like G1 but in the end I think their designs are a bit abstract? Not to mention they're a bit inconsistent when it comes to how the "bitbeast" is presented (I know that's a beyblade term, I just realized I can't differentiate between the ball Bakugan and the creature bakugan).Dragonoid, for example, is an iconic design with the head on a flat curved stick, right? It's somewhat abstract but it works. However they also have "sculpted" bakugans like Tigrerra or Preyas which have their heads or a bit of their body sculpted inside the opening part of the ball, which is fine, it's like a little surprise, but having both is inherently going to divide people's opinions over whether the more detailed sculpts are the way to go or if everyone should be represented by the mechanisms. In G2 every ultra follows the same design decisions of trying to make a little action figure you can open-close yourself. It's nice. I would be very curious to see if a G4 would happen even after the disaster that G3 was (or was not, it died before it even existed), which is a giant shame because the G3 GAME, even if the Bakugan themselves were a bit disappointing, was shaping up to be the most skill-based and strategic of them all.
I just want small beast transformers
I liked the brown girl
>>11822982Yeah, Julie was the best.
>>11822746What's that Unicron looking thing in the back?
>>11822982>>11823192Bakugan had the best brown girls
>>11823195Dr Wu Grand Galvatron
>>11823483
>>11823467I still find it odd they allowed these designs for children's programming. It's not the first, not the last, but still
>>11823706Because sex sells. Cute girls attract viewers. There are lots of shows I would have never watched if it didnt have some sexo design in it desu.
>>11823769Isn't Bakugan gay-furry though? you know, exploding testicles and bara gay dragons.
>>11823801There are two sexes with 4 sexual orientations between them. They all have money.
>>11823801G1 was very much aimed towards teen boys. Some of the outfit designs are pretty extreme and I didn't even realize how short/tight they are until real women cosplayed them. The right girl >>11823467 is pretty close to Sakura Igawa which might be intentional. If you want a laugh, check the Bakugan tag on Rule34, scroll to oldest and you can see the exact SECOND the Fandom got invaded by furries.
>>11823801>Isn't Bakugan gay-furry though? If be shocked if at least some fans didn't want to fuck the monsters but most of the smut and lewd fan content was about the humans.
>>11822221That's neat, I was just thinking about the originals the other day. We'll see if anything comes from it
>>11823801>>11823947Except I want to fuck the blue frog girl
>>11823769But why would they sell sex to children? Children think that's gross and weird. I could just as much accuse them for actually selling to offenders instead
>>11823915>Some of the outfit designs are pretty extreme and I didn't even realize how short/tight they areSame. I thought the girls were cute but I wasn't tuning in for them, I wanted to see the fuckin monster marbles and the masquarade twist occupied my brain instead of anything sex related. It wasn't until way later seeing a thread on /v/ that I actually realized it
Just reproduce the original line. The second hand market is rough.
>>11825106I'd be nice if they retouched them though, some of those paint details were rough and manually pulling out some parts like horns sucked. I know a lot of legs can't happen but surely some designs could have better engineering or detail.
>>11825111>LegsThey should just have the legs spring out sideways instead of underneath. The feet would look mirrored but I don't think people would mind if it means getting a fully automated G1 Dragonoid.
>>11822221>What would make you pick up Bakugan again after what happened with G3?bring back subterra
>>11822221I don't even follow Bakugan, but this made me feel old af.
Post favorites. G1 2 or 3 doesn't matter.
>>11825106After how ruthlessly the license was passed around I doubt the original molds even still exist. You'd be stuck with a bunch of half-assed recreations. I wish there was more respect for these aughties properties. The best Ben 10 can get nowadays are some shit blindbag keychains.
>>11825280Juggernoid is my Nigganoid
>>11824233That might just be coincidence. Sure, Mira is similar to Sakura design-wise, but I think it's only coincidental because of the different demographic. I mean, it's like treating G1 Bakugan as a sport in a scale similar to Beyblade X when it's meant to be a double collectible game.
>>11825898
>>11825556Excellent choice! I also like Turtonium from G2 a lot, both normal and ultra.
Fucking dare I download the dubbed dvd rips for the original series for a trip down memory lane or is that best left in the memory?
>>11825280Hydranoid always
>>11826434Season 1 and 2 were good from my memory. Its goes to shit in 3 I believe.
>>11825280Say what you will, but Apollonir is sick. Also love all the NV Mechanical Bakugan. It's genuinely criminal that none of them were produced.
>>11826875The artwork for these early Bakugan is so sick. Wish we could get high end figures of them beyond the old vinyl toys and that one Dragonoid statue. X-plus and those Godzilla garage kit sculptors that make the designs "realistic" would serve these well.
>>11823915Late 00s and early 2010s has a Lot of horny in anime aimed at selling toys to brats, metal fight Beyblade has a chinese oppai loli, dinosaur king has Animator enlarging zoey's breasts, battle spirit ultimate zero had Eris the morningstar which had a really voluptous and revealing design, Gundam build fighters has rinko.....them there was gyrozetter....it was not a thing exlusive to gen 1 bakugan
>>11828096Pics?
I bought some G3s a while back from the dollar store just for shits and giggles, but now i don't even really want them or want to store the fucking ripcords
>>11828827At least you found G3s. We never got them where I live. I wish it had kept on going. The game part of the Bakugan game was finally fixed. It had finally become a game of skill and strategy and it died in the crib.
>>11829941>The game part of the Bakugan game was finally fixed. It had finally become a game of skill and strategy and it died in the crib.wellnot in g3
Is the HD New Vestroia game any good? I remember it being like a godzilla game as a kid but that was 16 years ago so I might be misremembering
>>11829941They're really not great.- The entire split-in-half gimmick only adds game value if you use the beyblade ones, which REQUIRES you to have the stadium. but then if you use the stadium, you have no control over how you roll the regular bakugan.- Conforming EVERY SINGLE G3 to the split half form factor means none of the bottom halves have automatic opening parts except for maybe two little flippers on some, while every top needs to open from the same point on the ball. it absolutely stifles design diversity- nearly every single G3 looks like it's sitting on a shelf- except for the galaxy ones, they're all severely lacking in paint apps
How were the G2 Bakugan? I was initially put off because of the mechanised artstyle and 3D models.
>>11830034True, they're not the most exciting toys but the game itself was a big upgrade from "big number wins" from before. If we completely ignore the Beyblade aspect of the special attack G3s (RIP Jett Kuso's stream), everything about the game was well thought out: The top half of the bakugan has its own card with 3 stats: power, stamina and speed. The BOTTOM half of the bakugan also has its own specific card, and that's why there's a half-ball gimmick to all of them. The bottom half also has its own stats that add up to the top half when you're assembling your team, so that's already a big difference from just using the Bakugan with the highest number. You have to decide if you're going to make a balanced Bakugan with decent stats all around or sacrifice one or two of those stats in order to focus on the remaining. Now let's assume you build a Bakugan that's fully committed to a speed build, for example. You still have to build the stage with the gate cards, and your speed stat only comes out if you land on a speed zone, that's where your skill comes in. If you roll a Bakugan aiming for the speed zone and MISS, you're fucked. Your skill at rolling is necessary to make the build strategy work, because a player that used a balanced build can win a battle over a player with a strong Bakugan that can't land on its strong zone. It's already a hundred times more engaging than using the biggest number you have with the cores with the biggest number you have (unless you're setting a trap for an opponent but that's another story that usually doesn't pay off because players tend to aim for their own cores).Cont-
>>11830235The PROBLEM with all this is that we can't ignore the special attack Bakugan because they really really wanted you to use those damn beyblades, for two reasons. Reason one is that they're "cooler" and more expensive, and it "justifies" demanding players buy the ramp stadium to use them, and reason 2 is that it completely removes the skill part of the game! If you spin to play, you're effectively playing roulette at that point. The Bakugan is going to land, pretty much every time, on a random zone, which completely nullifies the build strategy and turns what should be a game of strategy and skill into luck. You can't even say "the game is won in the planning phase like Beyblade", because it's not. You don't win by out-spinning your opponent, you win the same way you always do, big number wins, except this time there's a rock paper scissors component to it that makes the game more interesting... And they turned it into a die roll.Maybe just stick to Bakugan Pro.
>>11830242Actually I meant Bakugan Melee.It's been a while.
>>11830235>but the game itself was a big upgrade from "big number wins" from before.anon are you high
>>11830270Yes, I am high! High...ly excited about how the G3 game was an improvement over the fixed power levels of older Bakugan which led to an inevitable power creep like in every other collectible game! But the rock paper scissors mechanics made it so that even a weaker Bakugan could win with enough skill! Also if you're talking about the G1 cards that made it so that low number wins, that's just a card effect, I'm talking about the rules in general. Like in MtG, "lower your opponent's life to zero to win" is the rule, but then some smart ass goes "nuh huh platinum angel!"
>>11830292this is extremely weak bait
>>11830351Alright, what is your rebuttal?
>>11830361Are you stating that the G3 game is good because you can customize your bakugan halves to increase your chance of winning through skilful rolling?simple yes or no answer. any other answer will be ignored. literally either post "yes" or "no".
>>11830368>Skillful rollingI wonder if G4 could be successful by going full marble shooter game by removing the cards, making them B1 sized and just have it be about landing on targets. Then the differences between balls will be from varying weight distribution of the Die-cast. Then do arena customization with different hazards like the DS game or a pinball table.
yes
I actually really liked the later leg of G2.
>>11830235The entire merch line was based around the special attack Bakugan. The distribution of the product, the arena (which had a direct effect on the way the game pieces and card gimmicks were implemented), even the way they had to gimp the normal Bakugan to standardize them. It's not something you can just ignore without throwing the baby out with the bathwater.
>>11830465I know that. I'm completely and entirely aware of that. So much so that it pains me to admit it. BUT if it wasn't there, the 3-stat system was the biggest innovation to curb simply releasing bigger and bigger numbers printed on specific Bakugan which made people all run the same ones because they were simply better than all others.
>>11830468you haven't answered my question: >>11830368
>>11830235Anon...The bottom halves do NOT have cards and do NOT add stats to top halves. The ATTACK RINGS have cards that add stats. Those rings prevent rolling and can only be attached to spinner bottom halves. And if you're using spinners, you HAVE TO use the stadium, or the spinner bakugan won't go on the gate cards. And if you're using the stadium, you CANNOT roll your normal bakugan by yourself. You can only launch them down a stationary ramp.
bruh look how shitty most of these areremember, any bottom half openage you see here is manual
>>11830638>>11830235Oh btw, those attack rings got rereleases with different bakugans and different bakugan recolors, with different stats! Also, for some card variations there's no way to distinguish which card goes to which version of the ring, unless you write down the card code. some card codes go to multiple ring releases!the whole play pattern is fucked!
>>11830482Read the thread, your answer is there.
>>11826434It finished downloading. It was not anywhere near as bad as I was bracing myself for but it is definitely a dubbed anime from the mid 00s. I fucking cackled when Dragonoid had a monologue to nobody going>IF ONLY THE HUMAN THEY CALL DAN COULD UNDERSTAND THAT BAKUGAN IS NOT JUST A GAME AN EVEN LARGER BATTLE IS TAKING PLACE IN MY UNIVERSE, VESTROIAOne of the first things we see post opening credits is Dan's mom doing yoga by the way.
>>11831243To be fair, Bakugan is not just a game. An even larger battle is taking place in Dragonoid's universe, Vestroia. Also let me take a minute to ramble a bit about the anime. I know it's a show for kids but:>"one day, cards started dropping from the sky"OK, I'm on board. Inciting incident. Please continue.>"we invented a wicked new game"No you fucking didn't. First of all, if cards really did start dropping from the sky all around the world, the military of every country would be called in. You wouldn't keep your cards for more than a week until they were all taken to some DUMB for analysis. SECOND of all, you can't make two kids agree on the rules for freeze tag, you can make a world-spanning game ruleset that everyone agrees to? Horseshit.>But anon, it's a kid's cartoon. There's no need to call the military, and it's written by the japanese. They have a higher sense of social cohesion and rules followingOK, bet. I'll also ignore that bit because it's a kid's show. Whatever gets us to the brawling. BUT.>"-wicked new game we called... BAKUGAN"BULLSHIT you did. What are the odds that you just so happen to call your new game the actual species name of the creatures from the balls that somehow just showed up unexplained after only the CARDS are mentioned in the intro? The balls show up from nowhere. >"the bakugan tell them"The bakugan tell them SHIT. Bakugan don't talk. The first instance of a bakugan speaking is Dragonoid, long after the game rules are established and after Dan is already an experienced brawler. They came up with the name for marketing purposes! Yu-gi-oh sidesteps this issue because in their world, the card game is called Duel Monsters, which is what Bakugan should have done.FURTHERMORE!
>>11831481I only watched a handful of episodes at the start, but the very first episode IMMEDIATELY removes all hopes Bakugan ever had of being a "spectator sport" like Duel Monsters or Beyblade, or even Pokémon. Why? Because, as you can see in the very first episode of the series, when you "Gate Open", you and your opponent get sucked into a pocket dimension where "time freezes". Later in this conversation Dan claims that time doesn't freeze, it "slows down but keeps moving". Sure, whatever. But the flan pudding or whatever Dan's mom throws up in the air is still in the air by the time the brawl is over. This MEANS that anyone looking at the two people who are about to brawl, the only thing they see is two morons scream "gate open" and a millisecond later someone's cheering. It's like a coin flip. If you don't brawl yourself, or are "invited" to spectate inside the time freeze dimension, you have NO IDEA what the fuck is going on. I don't know exactly how far into the series this idea is dropped (I'm pretty sure it's dropped at least) but it raises a lot of questions.I'm sure the battle dimension is so they can have Kaiju battles without collateral damage to buildings considering 9/11 was still fresh in people's minds, but even G2 created a "battle bubble" people can see into, and that just winds time back to the original state, so they can break anything they want and it just fixes itself after the fight.>"wow anon, you must be super fun at parties"No I'm not.
>>11830649>Mantris>Mantonoid>MantidBakugan naming is so weirdly inconsistent. You'd think they would maintain the "noid" suffix on everything because they it matches Pokémon/Digimon and they mostly evolve into humanoids but they never commit.

>>11839707You've been gone for a while huh. there's a 14-day = autosage rule added 2 years ago.
You know, this thread got me thinking, can G3 even be balanced to the other generations?Back when it was dying I was trying to think up a unified ruleset similar to JettKuso's system but a bit more compatible, and from what I recall it actually seemed pretty easy to get G1 and G2 working nicely together, but G3 was almost impossible to get working in a way that wasn't obviously totally unbalanced from the start. And I didn't even know about >>11830670, which throws another wrench in that idea.
>>11842989Probably use a formula to multiply/ downgrade the G-power of the entire gen.
