Waiting for you to get the door, walking up to the xth floor etc. all add up and so they often can't/won't do it.Not wanting to have a chat probably isn't about autism or anything, either, but about being in a fucking hurry to get that van empty.

Routes and schedules are almost certainly calculated by optimum traffic, easily moveable packages, and seemless interactions, not accounting for heavy traffic, heavier packages, or a customer holding someone in a conversation for too long. They do what they can to make it more doable, even if things like throwing packages is beyond the pale and not commendable.
