is mezco worth investing my money in? I'm considering saving up for iron man
>>11828926that's a mezco figure? i thought their whole stick was full on soft goods. that looks like marvel legends
yh I was honestly surprised since I thought it was soft goods that look like a pajama. turns out I was wrong and they have a few plastic molds such as black bolt. I really like the clean design but for $125 is insane. I think ill just save my money for csm shf figures
>>11828980Mezco, like Hot Toys, will use all plastic or metal when needed, naturally Iron Man doesn't really use cloth goods. They're just generally meant to be premium figures at a smaller scale. The Darkseid they did even used Polystone(somewhat unwisely)
>>11829007i thought retro ironman was only metal on the armour and the yellow parts were like an undersuit
Some Mezco figures are well worth the money. Their Conan, Tmnt, Popeye, and Dick Tracy are all excellent for example. I just got the Arnold Conan they put out this month and even the likeness is good, which is something they normally struggle with. Their comic stuff is definitely more divisive, especially the ones where they redesigned costumes, though it seems they’re moving away from that and just doing classic versions people like more.
>>11828926It's a very hit and miss company.Always wait for reviews on the fig you want, several at least.
>>11828926Honestly, their best stuff is really fucking good. Popeye, Conan and others come to mind. A lot of their stuff just isn't worth it though. Their superheroes look bad with how the fit of the costumes are. Something with regular clothes is better. They're hardly ever worth the asking price though.
nightcrawler just got announced and scarecrow from the bat series as well. def going to wait for a review since I can't burn through money rn cuz I'm waiting to start my summer job.
I have some of the older Popeyes. They're pretty good quality.
>>11829342I think MEzco is too standardized for you to really need a review.Once you buy a few, you know what to expect from their bodies.I think if you like their design, all you really need from there is to look at the final product (their promos shots aren't reliable but their prototypes usually are) to decide if it's worth it.SOMETIMES they're actually better than what you expect but almost never the opposite.
>>11829342Yeah this. Samurai Jack was so fucking disappointing.>>11830909Wrong. If I didnt look up reviews on Jack I would have been burned so hard I cant believe how bad he turned out
>>11830923>genndy design>expecting anything but statueshit poseability from itSo what did reviews say about it? I assume it's top heavy as fuck and articulation will be restricted at the arms? What else, that isn't normally found on a Mezco figure?Despite liking Samurai Jack, i don't give a shit about any merch because i know what what's going to happen. Same with the the Clone Wars series. Amazing designs, but it's too stylized to be worthwhile as an actiojn figure
>>11828926If you like it get it.
>>11830923I think the only really bad thing about Jack is the ankles Which is a pretty big deal but ankles are shit almost across the board on Mezco figures
>>11830960In the main, range of motion was lacking, and the yukata/kimono was too small, leading to further pose restrictions.>>11828926Never trust their promo photos for starters, lol. As others have said, when they hit, it's out of the park. I'm in the camp that believes that, outside of the accessories, their capeshit figures are largely mediocre.
>>11828926Their QC can be very spotty. IIRC their original Iron Man had an advertised removable mask that was accidentally glued to the (painted!) face out the factory, and Mezco's response was "Please don't remove the mask".Also the prices are absurd. The Darkseid posted by >>11829007 has 60 degree elbow bends, sloppy paint and breakage issues and cost $180 retail.
>>11831144So it's like i said, you can skip reviews as long as you own a couple of Mezcos and use a little common sense. >the yukata/kimono was too smallThis part is no-duh, unless you've never owned any sort of robed figure ever. And just owning Mezco figures, you learn what the limitations of clothes on a figure are.Samurai Jack by Genndy has an infinitely stretchy kimono, where the cartoon robe will always precisely cover every single inch of Jack no matter how he moves. There's a reason why a lot of robed/dress figures wilh have large slits on the sides if they want to give poseability to the figure, which always looks weird on an all plastic toy. And on cloth dresses/robes, well, they won't be that poseable unless it's super wide and formless.>>11831228I don't think their QC is spotty, considering most of what you talked about was very specific to a certain figure or super rare that happened in a review.
>>11828926>considering saving up for iron manNAH>>11831491>I don't think their QC is spottyNTA, but even retailers will tell you it's spotty. I've had scalpers selling shit on eBay tell me that one of the reasons they break up and sell some of the cape shit figures NEW, but in parts, is because they can actually make a profit that way, because even selling the complete figure at a loss doesn't make a sale. And in this case, we were talking about a Superman figure, which no one has yet brought up here as spotty QC and a quick check on the first few pages of results at archive.palanq.win/toy/search/ doesn't cough that figure up much where it's more criticism of looks than QC, it apperas.
>>11831749>I've had scalpers selling shit on eBay tell me that one of the reasons they break up and sell some of the cape shit figures NEW, but in partsThat's not because of spotty QC though. That's because it's a character or design that not everyone is willing to spend $100 for or is from a shitty movie. Even when One:12 was new and hyped, lots of figures didn't move at retail price and had to be put at half off and still wouldn't sell. Wolverine, Star Trek figures, etc.I'm a big One:12 fan, but I'm pretty picky and don't like all of the Mezflair that's put into the designs. Sometimes i'll regret not buying a figure, because it turned out that the Mezflair actually looked better in action poses vs the static prototypes shown at conventions. And seeing these figures in person is a huge must, because they tend to look better, since high res internet photos/videos will blow up details and colors you wouldn't see unless they're inches away from your eyes.So despite me knowing this, i still pass up some figures, only to regret it later.
I've never loved their Marvel/DC 1:12's because I despise cloth on action figures and they'd just stand out too much with the rest of the ML/MS and DCUC/DCD's I have already. I do have and enjoy their non-capeshit characters like Popeye, The Shadow & Doc Savage.
>>11828926Mezco Iron Man figures are pretty nice. A lot of die cast, very premium feel and vintage suit designs. I like them a lot.
>>11828926just get megos (1/9 scale) or make your own soft goods for 1/12 figures. Trust me, you will have WAY more fun.
