Articulated 6” NFL figures are finally fucking happening and none of you said a goddamn word about it until this morning in the DC thread. The reason it was in the DC thread is because McFarlane Toys is who is making these.

So far we just have Troy Aikman and Jerry Rice. Not ideal, but it’s a start:

https://www.target.com/p/mc-farlane-toys-nfl-articulated-6-34-troy-aikman-legend-series/-/A-95211672

https://www.target.com/p/mc-farlane-toys-nfl-articulated-6-34-jerry-rice-legend-series/-/A-95211673

Also not ideal is the articulation scheme on these as they don’t have an ab joint or anything approaching a butterfly joint. That’s going to severely hamper posing. Helmets also don’t appear to be removable.

So this is a mixed bag, but considering that the last figures even close to this scale with the NFL license were nearly 30 years ago, it’s something to be..mildly excited about.

also in this “Legends” wave of figures are a couple of NBA players, namely Larry Bird and Magic Johnson. These and the aforementioned NFL guys comprise the entirety of this wave. Between that and the dicey looking articulation, this has the feel of Todd testing the waters to see if there’s any market for this at all.
>>
No.
>>
Lame. Todd should be making more space marines instead.

It's a niche that hasn't gotten many figures. I think this is a good thing for fans of those.

The only advantage these will have is that this "inaugural wave" doesn't have many of the Toddler's shittiest qualities, like poor paint, the dreaded diaper, bad scaling, side-eye or other head sculpt issues.
But even aging sports bro who want a little dolly of their favorite athlete from when they could still get it up and were chasing gash at the bars after The Big Game will eventually notice AND Todd will eventually fall back on his same shitty ways.
In likely many of the same way that McFarlane could fuck up a license like The Witcher or The Walking Dead, Todd will FIND A WAY to fuck these up.
I expect them to peg warm hard at Target, like some WWE and AEW figs, and for some to be at Ross, if not this winter then next year.
Which is great, because this will make great 6" civilian thugs, with a little bit of kit-bashing, for Daredevil and Spider-Man to beat up!

While not ideal looking, for 20 bucks that's a saving grace, I guess. Keeping it bare-bones with accessories helps. A month ago I never would have thought I'd get a Troy Aikman action figure, so I'll take it.

these look horrible. Soft sculpts, barely any pain, outdated articulation with pins, still no pinless, still no face printing.

it feels like todd is the only one still using pins these days

my expectations are so low that none of this applies. the only real way for him to fuck this up would be to stop at Aikman and Rice.

It looks good

Well, he didn't get very far with The Witcher - and Netflix certainly wanted the toys, especially once they saw the demand that Invincible toys created.

Fall Out and other IPs certainly wanted more than what they RECEIVED, so there's that for you to look forward to. Anyone hoping for something like a Brock Purdy figure will likely be waiting a LOOOONG time.
Todd's very clearly been stuck in the 1970s and '80s and Rice and Aikman are just very visible clues.
Expect a Joe Montana and Dan Marino next, IF THAT.

Hasbro tried to do Basketball figures a few years ago, but they were charging like, twice what they were for their other lines. I swear, that line came and went with like, one wave, and they quietly phased it out and everyone forgot it was even a thing.

I also swear someone was going to do football players, but they started with NCAA teams/players, and that also went nowhere.

yeah the awful, doomed Starting Lineup revival. they spent gobs of money securing dumb shit like Nike branding and accurate sneakers, and tried to pass that cost on to the consumer. they also started with NBA faggots no one likes like Embiid, and included an NFT instead of a card.
>NCAA
these “collegiate legends” by some no name company. they’re on BBTS. fwiw Todd’s poa on the NFL guys looks about equal.

Everybody knows these are going to suck as bad as his recent NHL figures. I bet the paint on the final product doesn't even match the prototypes and the likenesses will be as good as early PS2 graphics.

Are people actually interested in figures of athletes?
It feels like ever since mcfarlane lost the dc license, he's so afraid of going bankrupt that he just releases a bunch of random stuffs and hope one of them sticks.
>>
>>11833005
Bro, McFarlane has always been a huge sports guy, and made shitloads of figures based on athletes. He is Canadian, and a HUGE hockey fan, in fact, making sports figures was why he ended up moving away from making horror figures and figures based off Spawn. It was why many people who worked for him eventually left and joined other companies like Neca.

sports are the one thing McFarlane Toys has done since 2001. they’ve tried (awful) articulated sports figures only a couple of times, but they were 1:18.

There are former perma virgins who got married and have kids and a mortgage and don't really want to articulate, much less toy photograph an action figure, and they are exactly the market for shit like Funko Pops of NFL or NBA players, or stupid shit like Reacher and Duck Dynasty Pops, but also utter garbage like NECA Toony or something that will literally just gather dust on their desk at work (or home office).

Todd will loose money because they won't buy an entire team or line up the way a Marvel or DC action fan would. They don't have the horder mentality.
>>
>>11833356
fuck off you projecting retard. if he was going to “loose” money he probably should’ve stopped making sports figures 25 fuckin years ago, huh? dumbass.
