Not sure I maybe missed the thread, but let's talk about Toy Story toys! I mainly want to talk about all the different variations of Buzz Lightyear, as I do genuinely think he's a really cool toy, but I'm also wondering if any other anons still have their Woody and Buzz from when they were a wee child
I came on mine.
>>11838863Found the Jessie poster
>>11838228Why do Buzz Toys always have such heavy bedroom eyes? Like the actual toy has it but it's a lot less pronounced.
>>11838943No one wants shellshocked buzz
>>11838228They really shouldnt have bothered making the last three films. Nostalgia for the original trilogy paired with the 30th anniversary would have been more than enough to carry the "franchise" for another 30 years at minimum. That said alot of the stuff they've been putting out lately's been really nice. Do you have any thoughts on the blokees stuff? Did you like the chromed 30th anniversary Buzz? Thoughts on the Play Scale line? Personally I'm really tempted by them. That size just suits the designs so well, and I've never been fond of hard plastic Woodys.
Samurai Woody is the odd duck of this trio but I still really appreciate ninja Buzz and geisha Jessie
>>11839010shut up disney adult
>>11839014Samurai Woody has the most direct parallel thoughGeisha Jessie is the stretch
>>11839029I know it does but it's an odd look for Woody. Atleast Buzz has a history of wild variations, Woody doesnt as much so this much of a departure just strikes me as odd. It atleast looks cool so it has that going for it. Jessie is a bit of a mismatch but with how cute she looks in the outfit I dont mind it.
>>11838228>>11838863>>11838927The sexiest toy story character is dolly. Snappy and giggles mcdimples are second and third place respectively
>>11839091>Honestly? When I look at this scrumptious little girl it makes me wana pull out my thing and COOM a mighty hefty coom
>>11838943My guess is that it makes him seem more cocky/confident like how he's portrayed in the movies. Like in the Key Art used for the Toy Story and Beyond line, if he had the movie face it might've been harder to sell. I kinda wish the Signature Collection had a more movie accurate face, as its supposedly based off the real CGI models used in the movies.
>>11839010Chromed Buzz is really cool and sent me down a rabbit hole of all the Buzz variants. I think its loosely based off the intergalactic edition Buzz. I really like how they nailed the box from the movie, and apparently the 30th anniversary labeling can slide off if you want the box for replica accuracy.
>>11839107Damn you sound really gay
>>11839109What does that have to do with anything?
>>11839110imagine caring this much about a dumb children's movie
>>11839112Bait or mental retardationCall it
>>11839115the toy story designs look gay, theres cooler shit out there like unkval
>>11839116Then go make your own unkval thread and oggle over muscular men nigga
>>11839121enjoy your gay weiner hut junior spongebob googly eye boomer crap
>>11839108Always wanted a chromed buzz but as an 6 or 5 inch action figure
>>11839123Will do
>>11839126I'd look like shit with that stupid looking head of his, it'd need to be stylized and actually look good like he did in lightyear
>>11839130What? There are many buzzes with that size and without some stupid stylization. The revo one is the best example
>>11839144still has a stupid cartoon look
>>11839147You mean the way he's supposed to look? What are you stupid?
>>11839144I lowkey still want the Revo Woody fig, 1 so I can pose him in funny ways, but also I really liked the scale and detail of the smaller figs. Is Revo the way to go for modern 1/12 scale? Buzz seems like he'd be the perfect toy from a Jap company to adapt. Also I'm just realizing the Woody laughing face is after he yells "Buzz look an alien!"
>>11839154>Is Revo the way to go for modern 1/12 scalenot with how dumb the characters look, woody has a head twice the size of buzz yet you just slop it up and guzzle it down like a good little piggie
Damn whats with this guy? Are you really that bored with life or are you just an attention seeker?
>>11839154Blokees is making a 15cm buzz but is not the classic buzz, is the high tech one from the latest movie. Maybe the would make an alt for classic buzz. Other than that yeah revo is still the only option for 1/12
>>11839176I kinda like the look of the high tech Buzz, but I haven't seen the movie yet. I only watched up to 3 + the shorts they did like Toy Story of Terror. Its kinda funny how they're doing the "Bonnie get iPad" plot when I'm pretty sure they did that in the Christmas special a couple years ago
>>11839108It and the Ninja Buzz have been some of the best buzz variants in years. After the third movie mattel really just coasted on evergreen releases of the standard characters. There was that one space set with the stealth buzz that was neat but little else. I wonder why they just stopped so suddenly. If anything they've gotten crazier with Cars year over year. Excuse thr ant sized image it's the best I could find on short hand.
>>118382285 fixed what 4 broke. But im still sad they didn't really introduce any cool toys that 3 had. i need an updated Twitch with articulate mandibles
>>11839163He's been seething at the mention of Toy Story for over six years now. It's pretty sad.
>>11839271That's my biggest problem with the post-trilogy sequels. Even the shorts managed to introduce cool new toys. Neither 4 nor 5 could do that, and it boils down to a total misunderstanding and lack of appreciation for toys on the part of the people that worked on those movies. They dont care about any of that, they just want to tell stories about therapy.
>>11839272its sad you disney soys boys worship this retarded shit to such a level any resistance is seen as an attack on your cult
>>11838228Ill never understand why Disney and Hasbro never have come together for a true accurate Mr. Potato Head. This new set arrives tomorrow (fucking finally, took nearly 2 months to release), and while its not super entirely accurate, this is their best effort in terms of the regular toy line. On the topic of other toys, I really want to get Buzz and Woody at least. Disney Store has some really neat ones but their faces dont look right, despite Disney Store buzz having the most accurate featureset. I dont know if its worth the risk trying to chase down a collection buzz and woody as I know a lot of fakes are put there, though admittedly that Woody is kind of a white whale for me.
>>11839331Why does he have pants
>>11839014I hate that Woody isn't missing his sword.
>>11839331Your best bet these days would be partswapping new and old releases until you get as close to the onscreen depiction as possible. It's mentioned often nowadays but there's some bullshit legal red tape preventing the release of a 1 to 1 Potatohead. It's always two steps forward and one step back with disney. We're finally completing the roster from the first two films with disney store esclusive releases like Wheezy, Lenny, and Gibraltar but we still havent gotten proper potatoheads, trixie, the robot from TS1, among many others. These movies are a license to print money and they fail to merchandise half the cast.
>>11839395Hasbro added pants in 2011, then in 2024 they redesigned the body again. The new pants allow for removable shoe pieces which is really cool. I assume the issue is the same as a lot of the customs. The shoes have to either go in at a weird angle to stay flat or it will have stability issues, so the pants prevent that. >>11839474What would even be the red tape? I assume it would affect all the characters as even the collection line was inaccurate to the movies Toy Mode. I just figured Hasbro had a weird policy about eyes (and shoes until 2024)
>>11839433why? because he can't hold it? I see that as a valid complaint, actually
>>11839822Pretty sure that anon was referencing the fact that Woody always had a holster but never a gun.
>>11839014Why is Buzz Lightyear Naruto???
The old Thinkway Toys line from the 90s was kino. I think I still have the Buzz with the rocket somewhere.
I had this one.It transforms into a rocket and apparantly you could get another figure to stand on the backhttps://youtu.be/47rwWzU1RjQ?t=432
>>11840524damn, what a gay fucking toy
Why is it they no longer include the most simplest feature?
>>11840752I was going to say you're wrong because I swear I saw that the Disney Store version still had it, but no, you're totally right. Kinda cool that they incorporated the karate chop action tho, but yeah, how hard would've it been to use glow in the dark paint?Side note, but my Buzz from when I was a kid still has the glow in the dark paint and its sweet. Of course its not as bright as in the movies and it darkens fairly quick, but I still think its cool
>>11840752>>11841356I've always been willing to accept compromises on Buzzes aslong as a handful of the gimmicks were present. That it took 20-ish years to get a Buzz with working communicator hatch still irks me. More annoying still is that the opening communicator hasnt become a bare minimum standard for the average Buzz! GITD paint, spring-loaded wings, the opening communicator, the voice line buttons, and the wrist laser should all be mandatory. If we ever got a Buzz who's helmet didnt retract I wouldnt be upset about it in the least. However the triple whammy of no communicator, no karate chop, and no GITD paint just always seemed too egregious. They've cheaped out on Zurg just as bad these days too. Nearly 30 years in and not one Zurg's had Zurg-vision, let alone a working ping pong ball launcher.
>>11840515Hey that was my childhood Ham! Yeah alot of those early evergreen lines go woefully overlooked. The Infinity and Beyond stuff especially so. To this day there's still alot in the way of BLoSC I want proper toys of, especially with how limited the original toyline was. Still, it entertains me how many times we've gotten evil Buzz Lightyears. Warp Darkmatter, Evil AU Buzz, and this guy, Anti-Buzz. Man I wish somebody would revisit this design. There's a purple variant out there too.
>>11840450It was Takara's answer to the 30th anniversary. >>11839551As ai've heard it, it's something to do with not being allowed to produce 1 to 1 reproductions of toys from movies. It could be bullshit but ir seems plausible. Otherwise they've just been intentionally gimping these releases out of incompetence or malice for years now. Either way it sucks.>>11840524From what I can recall they were supposed to combine aswell. The line encompassed two Lightyears, RC, and even Zurg. All of their altmodes were sort of ass but I appreciated the effort. It'd be neat to see modern mega morphers but I doubt anyone will bother. The closest we have are those Takara combiners.
Holy shit I'd forgotten all about Rex, Woody, and the LGMs
still got mine. Apparently it sells for quite a bit so maybe i'll sell it
>>11841572I stopped paying attention to new Toy Story releases after the Signature Collection because I considered them the best. The fact they havent stepped up their game in fifteen years ontop of getting bootlegged and upcharging for modern re-releases of the Signature series is crazy.
>>11841572Very cool. Did you ever open it? I got mine when I was around 10 or so because I always wanted a movie accurate Buzz and they still had them in stock at Toys R Us around my birthday. I think I may have lost one of the wings for the box, but hopefully its in a box somewhere I haven't looked. Also don't know where the certificate is for it, but I'm sure its somewhere. I lowkey want to get the Disney Store Buzz primarily for the box as I'm happy to see they replicated the one from the movie fairly well
>>11841515That's so awesome. Did Hasbro sue?
>>11841826yeah i displayed him for ages. Loved the GID bits
>>11838228All this talk about the various Buzzes, but no one talks about the superior SHF from the shit movie. Toy Story Buzz is always expected to have everything, like the pop out wings and even the shooting pose capability. But ive only grown to distrust anything involving his screen accurate bulky torso
>>11841926>"DISNEY, HIRE THIS MAN" Buzz
>>11841856I have no idea. This is just one of many toylines from the turn of the century there's little to no information about online. Who knows what the story behind the line might have been.>>11841926Just like the Spotlight version it was buried by the stink and suckage of the movie itself. On their own they're great, but since they're inextricably linked to such a shit movie nobody cares. Sequel Star Wars and Josstice League both yielded alot of similarly great toys that are still dirt cheap because the movies themselves suck.
I got this guy in 2000 from a McDonald's. One of the best toys I ever had. I was very happy and fortunate to get him. Only the arms move, and the little chest button used to make some sort of sound but that's not been the case for a long time. Going to fix that soon.
For a franchise about toys, it sure feels like they don't want to make them. Where's my combat Carl and Transitron?
>>11841989They got around to Carl a few years ago. Transitron got a prototype made by some Japanese company years ago but it was sadly canned.
>>11841943Somehow I totally missed the Spotlight series of figs. How good are they? Are they a decent alternative to the Revos? It sucks that Lightyear sucked. I was a big fan of Star Command (as anyone with taste should be) and thought it had some potential to be decent. I also love the design of Buzz from that movie. It looks like it would be fun to make a cosplay of.
>>11841920Is that a Sonichu lucky cat in the bottom right there or am I going crazy
>>11838228This cheap BK Buzz was the hottest thing at my school when the movie cane out. I'm sure I still have mine somewhere
>>11842070My buddy got the two versions of Buzz and Mr Incredible. In every respect they feel like upgrades of the revos. Larger scale, more articulation, more accessories, etc. Mattel really knocked it out of the park. For whatever reason however nobody seemed to bite. I rarely saw them in stores and by the time they showed up online prices has shot up an additional 10 to 20 bucks. I'd say they're worth the money if you're interested but they're bound to get more expensive overtime. Lightyear Buzz might be one of the cheaper releases in the entire line if I had to guess.>It sucks that Lightyear sucked. I was a big fan of Star Command (as anyone with taste should be) and thought it had some potential to be decent. It still pains me that they totally sidelined the opportunity to adapt BLoSC to effectively remake Interstellar with Buzz Lightyear and a cast of forgettable gay brown OCs. Once Lassetter had been booted I figured they were going to rush to tap that nostalgia well dry and instead we got fuck all. Oh well, atleast the toyline was fun.
>>11842119This is one of the extreme few fast food toys that's been seared into my memory. That sculpt, even for how sparsely painted it is, is iconic. I really miss the days when kids meals offered outright action figures. These days it's all the lowest effort dog water shit possible. Faux-funko pops, trading cards, coloring books, etc.
>>11842146Thanks! I'll have to keep an eye out for them. One detail I appreciate about the movie is reusing the Lunar Larry suit from the test animations of the first movie. Its so minor but it's cool to see official merchandise of it.>effectively remake Interstellar with Buzz Lightyear and a cast of forgettable gay brown OCsImo, they should've leaned into the Star Wars inspiration they were clearly going for in the first two movie. Not saying you have to do A New Hope 1:1 or anything, but it seems like a better idea than what we got
>>11841826That's the Disney store Buzz, not the Signature collection one. They both come in rocketship boxes but they're not the same. Not by a longshot.
>>11841987I had that too. I gave it to my college room mate when we parted ways after school. I loved it so much!
>>11842119>>11842147When I used to do more thrifting, I kept coming across this Buzz in the mixed bags of smaller toys. I ways thought he looked cool for what it was.>>11841987I'm guessing the Burger King one was from the first movie and the McDonalds one was from the second one? Wonder why they changed it
>>11842305Oh I know, I was just posting Disney store Buzz to show the box as my post was mildly related to it
>>11842407>first movie and the McDonalds one was from the second one? Wonder why they changed itI have no idea. I just got this from ebay, waiting for it to arrive. I find it to be the most modern variant that is to my taste. 5 inch is acceptable toy range for me, toys that are much bigger aren't quite to my taste. Hopefully it's a good figure.
get your unreal engine modern trash out of here tastelets
>>11839331>>11839474I think I did make a somewhat movie accurate Potato Head when I was a kid via part swapping because my autism wouldn't let it go. I went on a trip to Disney Land when I was 9, and they had a section in a gift shop in California Adventure that let you fill a box full of Potato Head parts kinda like the build able lightsabers in the Star Tours gift shop, and they seemed to have the parts for his movie version. Kinda wish I kept that stuff, moreso out of nostalgia sake, as I had the Spider-Man and Optimus Prime versions as well.
>>11842162BLoSC got it right the first time. Flash Gordon/Star Wars/Star Trek antics with Buzz in tow. Making a Buzz movie where Buzz himself is second fiddle to a bunch of nobodies and Zurg is evil older Buzz was a new threshold of hollywood retardation. Such a shame.>>11842407Yeah alot of those 90's happy meals get around. I'l bump into them thrifting at the randomest of times.>>11842849I really wish the translucent one hadnt been cancelled. The sales must have been really rough considering I still run into lightyear stock at ross even now.
>>11843136I had potato vader as a kid. Crossover potatoheads were a fun novelty back then. There's too many of them now. It annoys me how many different toylines are desperately trying to trendchase funko pops a decade after their height in popularity. That said I wonder if anyone offers a 3D printed kit of movie Potatohead parts.
>>11842849This was a good line in general, with all the essential modern joints you need. Some of them made a resurgence at Ross if you feel like building a team
I'll post a photo later, but does anyone have advice on cleaning the cow print vest on a Woody doll? Mines fairly dirty nowadays, and I want to give it a clean without damaging the fabric and I'm wondering if there's any cleaners I should stay away from
>>11838943Because toy manufacturers are cowards.
>>11844817Tide sticks should do the job
>>11843353It looks pretty cool! I take it the image is from a pre-release prototype?>>11843637I believe it. I already got 3 of them. Ordered online.
>>11844835Yeah, it even got solicited but it just never saw release. It's really a shame since it was the best variant of them all.
Anyone know what version is this Woody I got off Facebook?Someone told me it's an "early version of Signature" but he only has ten phrases, starting with "Boy am I glad to see you" and ending with him yawning and saying he's leaving to sleep
>>11845076He definitely looks the part of a signature Woody. I'm just not intimate enough with the phrases tobe certain. Around that time I ended up with a budget woody.
>>11845076>>11845111It might be one of the budget Woodys from around that same time, I think they had similar molds for the head and patterns for the body around 2010-2013. The signature line I think had some added playmodes that the budget ones didn't have, along with the stand and a certificate saying it was part of that line. If it didn't come with either, it may not be a Signature Collection one. I think my sister had a Woody doll from around that time that had the "Boy am I glad to see you" line.Unrelated, but the pull string phrases from my 2000 era Woody doll are still burned into my brain.>Howdy partner>My name's Woody>You're my favourite deputy>Yee-haw, cowboy!>There's a snake in my boot!
>>11845076with those phrases I'd suspect the Toy Story 2 release of the screen accurate toys. I had the TS1 version and those lines were all movie rips. I now remember using him as if he were a yo-yo.
>>11845761oh jeez i also tucked some sort of scale appropriate revolver into his holster
>>11845076damn this toy is so fucking lame no wonder its bombing at the box office
>>11845771But it's doing fine? Somehow.
>>11846072I hate that I actually kinda want to see it, but I remember feeling this way about Toy Story 4 a couple years back. Its actually kinda crazy how they keep coming back to the franchise after so many years, but refuse to age up Bonnie. The gap between 2 and 3 works so well because Andy actually grows up and is going to college, while the gaps between 3, 4 and 5 is strange because Bonnie is only like 6 or 8 years old across almost 16 years. Like she would be the same age as Andy in Toy Story 3 by now, and yet they're turning her into a reluctant iPad baby
>>11838228Potato head anon here. Been wanting a good woody doll, was looking around at stores and shit and theres just nothing. Closest is the poseable disney store one and it looks wrong. The best one ever was the collection version, and if I get one id want to customize it and make it look more accurate. Looked into the bootleg Woody dolls based on the signature line and they are nearly identical aside from worse quality assurance. Figured 40 bucks for one to customize and make movie accurate vs 400 was a better deal, and id feel less bad swapping out the voice box, head, etc. Also the hat doesnt have the stupid holes in the back like the authentic one does. Idk, this is a picture of one and it looks pretty close, will report back if its shit quality or not, free returns so if I just hate it I'll send it back.
>>11847690Forgot the pic cause im a fucking retarded, my fault /toy/ >>11847372Fwiw I thought 5 was great. Much more solid movie overall than 4, im only really disappointed by the toy line.
