After the failure of Bandai's Legacy and Hasbro's Lightning Collection, Playmates is giving it a go with their own 6 inch collector line, starting with Power Rangers Zeo. $19.99. Gold Ranger is listed as a Walmart exclusive.

>Walmart clearing out the Dinozords at clearance price
Soon...soon...
>>
>>
Also, we got a review of the Thunderzords. They look good. Neat how they're basically Dairanger in all but name.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QDBMKwsvmGM&t=1s
>>
I could maybe get behind these if the swords weren't so stubby.
>>
>>11848071
At least this time they're doing an entire team at once instead of splitting them up across waves. Neither of the lines before them ever even considered doing that. Maybe it won't be a complete flop.
>>
Cool. When this started they specified they only had the rights to Mighty Morphin'. Guess the line has been a big enough success to move on.
>>
>>11848071
20 for these in 2026 is crazy. These are from the Bandai Thundercats era, and worse than those by a huge margin.
>>
>>11848109
The paint detail is better than anything Bandai or Hasbro did.
>>
>>11848113
What does paint matter if the base figure is bad? At that point just do it on the 5" figures and they'd be just as good as these.
>>
>>11848117
They don't have swappable heads, 22 POA, and shitloads of accessories.
>>
>>11848071
>those wonky sculpts
>covered in extremely outdated looking joints
Yikes
>>
>>11848107
>Guess the line has been a big enough success
It's been a huge failure, wtf are you on?
>>
>>11848102
>At least this time they're doing an entire team at once instead of splitting them up across waves.
That remains to be seen. They split their Godzilla Rangers up, so I wouldn't be surprised if these were released in two waves. Though it's still good that they're at least showing the full team at once. I just think Zeo is a bad choice. The articulation looks worse than the Lightning Collection, and Playmates is still using those awful hip joints, so people are probably gonna be looking to this line to supplement the Lightning Collection.

Zeo already got the full team in that line, making these pretty meh in comparison. Time Force who only got 2/6 (neither of which were Quantum or Pink) would have been a far better choice to kick off this line. Or if they really wanted to have a Tommy in their first wave, Turbo only got 1/5 core Rangers in the Lightning Collection.
>>
>>11848128
Of course Anon, the line thats going on nearly three years now is a failure.
>>
>>11848102
plus all the visor trims are the same color, sculpts don't look too bad, and the accessory layout is much more than complete than what halfass hasbro was doing, at least that's what the renders imply, what actually releases will probably differ a lot
>>
All they have to do is get rid of the pins and do ball joint legs. Christ just do it and they’ll sell better.
>>
>>11848143
Ball joints don't age as well. Give it enough time and those things start falling apart.
>>
>>11848071
i just hope they stagger the cases so there aren't a shitload of girl rangers killing the line, like you can still get lc zeo yellow at Ollies right now
>>
Sweet, this means the Zeozords too. That'll be fun.

Not so much the Super ones though.
>>
>>11848071
I just hope the Gold Ranger's headsculpt can fit the lighting collection body. Still can't believe how badly they fucked up that helmet.
>>
Should’ve done them at 15.99 to keep that budget playmates price but this year has fucked prices.
>>
>>11848073
Super Legends bros, we're back
>>
>>11848071
>$19.99
yeah they sure look like 20 dollar toys, but honestly for this thats fine, at least they come with a lot of stuff, these will make decent stand in for the sentai teams, assuming they will actually do any beyond the stuff adapted for MMPR or Zeo
>>
>>11848172
Like Anon said, they originally only had MMPR. So if they got Zeo too that means theres nothing stopping them from going further.
>>
QRD on SPD stuff?
>>
>>11848174
The old toys? They only did lightning collection previously
>>
>>11848173
>theres nothing stopping them from going further.
well there is, it's called flopping, lightning collection ended because it didn't sell, at least these are cheaper
>>
>>11848177
Well, yeah, aside from that. It just means they have access to the whole franchise now, not just MMPR.
>>
>>11848179
true, but the consistent issue PR has had is that people don't really give a fuck about seasons beyond Zeo, maybe In Space gets a pass, all the other seasons are liked by fans but PR fans hasn't really shown to be that big of a market, but at least these have the upside of being cheaper so kids might grab them to off set that, at least will make completing teams cheaper
>>
Also in relevant Sentai news, SMP is doing a new run of the GaoRanger zords to coincide with the release of zords based off designs that never got made.
GaoKing, GaoHunter, and GaoIcarus have been announced so far.
>>
At least now we'll maybe get a new transforming Zeo Megazord, for better or worse. Still don't understand Hasbro's thought process on that one.
>>
>>11848202
Hasbro never wanted PR to begin with.
>>
>>11848183

This articulation is all stuff that's hard to take apart so kids won't choke on small pieces. If you've ever put together one of those blokees transformers then you've put together a basic single jointed version of what pinless knees/elbows are.
>>
>>11848780
A model kit is not equivalent to something that passes the pull test. I’m going to buy these regardless of pins but there is ZERO excuse for them.
>>
Yeah, it's pretty clear even when hasbro did Lightning Collection, that they gotta make it a bit towards the chance a kid will play with it, I believe that's why they had such LOONNGGG pegs, harder to pull out compared to an ML, for example.
>>
>>11848780
i hate pinless joints because they've been grossly stiff for me but
Pinless joints are insert molded, the plastic is physically part of each other. I think Playmates is just sticking to what they know, they can do insert molded joints, but rarely do unless the part's small enough to need it

This is shit. If this was 2005, maybe this would be alright, but in the big 2000=26 these figures are already outdated: pins, small heads, and no extra hands at all and to me, the biggest fuck you is the lack of ankle pivot. For characters that are super agile and fight using martial arts, that's just insulting unless they do and I'm wrong then ill admit as such.

Join the club. Playmates made a few if you can find them (Rita, Goldar, Baboo, and a Putty).
>>
>>11848207
Didn't they own the rights and costumes and stuff like that? Was mmpr just grandfathered in when they got a new CEO? I mean, I know they sold it all but just seems odd they would invest in a property they had no real desire to work with.
Man those were some funky years with Hasbro starting and stopping various lines from d&d to starting line up, fortnite etc etc
>>
>>11849165
The previous CEO of Hasbro was all about turning them into a media empire (TV, movies, etc) and thought PR would be a good fit for them. Thing is, he bought it without telling anybody, even the other board members. So they kinda had to make stuff for it against their will.
Then he died and the rest of Hasbro didn't really feel obligated to keep it around, so they dumped it on Playmates.
>>
>>11848363
Thatd be great, just a sentai focused line where you can mix and match across a few different franchises.
>>
>>11848363
I did the same, when Zeo came out I was already in middle school and losing interest. I watched the first few then Dragon Ball Z came out. I did try to watch In Space but off and on. They Psycho Rangers were pretty cool. Glad Hasbro at least gave us that. Playmate jumping to Zeo better not mean they are completely skipping Ninja and Shogun Megazord releases.

>>
>>11849653
figuarts came and went years before lightning collection wat u mean
>>
>>11849653
I appreciate that Hasbro made some deep cut choices like Red Ecliptor and Pirantishead. But that is no excuse for how often they halfassed the actual sculpts, or continued to leave in inaccurate details that anyone could have spotted if they looked at a single promo image.

Figuarts is an even bigger mess since they let that line die by refusing to listen to the American buyers and now only release Reds in the expensive SHFSS subline.

These Playmates figures aren't ideal, but they're already more consistent in detail than the Lightning Collection Zeo Rangers and have more paint than the Legacy Collection ones. The fact they might even have a combinable Zeo Blaster will probably give people a reason to buy the team a 3rd time.

Your (you're) confusing the IP with the product. It being a corporate license is exactly why blindly defending outdated lazy molds is peak mindless consumerism.

They were for things that for the most part couldn't be just sold normally online, like Eternia, Thundercats Lair, Galactus, Sentinel, etc. Maybe some of the GI Joe classified vehicles could've been. This Dragonzord definitely could've been just sold online.

Do you really think they wouldn't use AI? They know they have collectors by the balls with this so they can pretty much do whatever they want and collectors will have to buy it. Collectors need to have more self control and be discerning; to look at a product and say they would rather have the money still in their bank account than a bad product, even if it looks like something from a show they like. And if that means no more Power Rangers toys ever, then so be it.

Those early writers poured a lot of love and soul into rearranging and remixing the Japanese tokusatsu episodes and building their own stories on top of it. It must have been very difficult slotting so many pieces together to fit properly. And the suffering of the actors under lack of pay was high. From the top it may have been corrupt, but there were those below that had an earnest spirit.

That Green Ranger is already using the chest from the core males. The shielded chest has a recessed area for the shield to plug into. If he can use that, and shielded Red and Black can use the arms without the bands, I don't see why Green can't use the bandless arms.

I don't understand how they haven't seen the widespread criticism of how much people hate those leg joints, or simply don't recognize looking at them how aesthetically horrible they are. They also have horrible functionality. It's like a rubix cube trying to get them into spread poses. Swivel hinge legs are great if the hinge is on the side, otherwise just use simple ball joints. I don't understand how something so basic is beyond their grasp in 2026.

This is how things work. This thread has been hijacked by the non-American toku fandom!

Anyway, besides the point since I always think the Power Rangers General should be a wholesale Toku General instead where all forms of toku from both sides of the world (yes, even French and Brazilian toku are fair game), I wanna talk about the Japanese toys. With that out of the way, I would like to casually mention that even Kamen Rider is adapting the Tokusatsu Action Figure name for their Kamen Riders starting September with the My-Th line (where we get at least our first four Riders of My-Th, Maou, Rid and Datt). So, what past Riders do you want to see now under this new, and possibly final, rebranding?

Power Rangers rarely made pop culture references. In the entirety of MMPR the only one I can think of is Ernie mentioning Batman in "Happy Birthday Zack", and that's far from an out of date reference. The only one I can think of which fits that bill is Kira being referred to as an Avril wannabe in Dino Thunder, referring to Avril Lavigne who hasn't been relevant in a while.

The point is Power Rangers didn't heavily use pop culture references. They were pretty few and far between, and most seem to have come from Bulk and Skull. The references wouldn't impact a modern kid's ability to enjoy the show. I remembered another one where they dress as Elvis, and Skull says he can be young Elvis and Bulk can be old Elvis. Another reference that wasn't exactly contemporary for the time, but Elvis is an iconic figure that I feel even kids today would know of.

>>
>>11860002
I really don't understand the logic of choosing 2/3 teams who were completed in the Lightning Collection to launch this new line. Wild Force is a good choice since it only got 2/6 and a Putrid. Turbo would have been a good choice since it only got 1/5 of the core team. Lightspeed only got 1/6, Time Force only got 2/6, RPM only got 1/7. I understand that Zeo and Dino Thunder are especially popular because of Tommy, but a lot of the fanbase already has 6 inch figures of those teams and aren't gonna pony up for them again, especially not for inferior versions with less articulation and those horrible hips.

Now to be fair, if Playmates really was set on doing Dino Thunder, there is something they could do with that team which has never been done before, and would set their figures apart from the Lightning Collection, but I don't see them being smart enough to do it, so we'll probably just get the same vanilla version of the team that Hasbro made.

Playmates is clearly listening to fan demand with the Dragonzord kickstarter and collector figures. People just need to keep pressing them about Squatt.

I'm worried this is gonna be like Bandai's 6.5" Legacy line and be nothing but Rangers, which are boring without any villains. Zeo only got Cogs from Hasbro with none of the main villains. Dino Thunder only got Mesogog, who only ever fought the Rangers one time, and in a mutated form. If Playmates wants me to care give me a full collection, not just the Rangers. The Machine Empire have never had proper action figures beyond Cogs and monsters, give me the damn royal family! Dino Thunder could really use Zeltrax, and neither Elsa nor the Tyrannodrones have ever had action figures, so those would be great to get. We don't need another Mesogog, and we don't need more Cogs, let's not waste resources on stuff we already have in 6" scale.

Hasbro did such a bad job marketing the series that people are legitimately believing like the playmates was the first cheap kids toy option for MMPR in years when Hasbro was cranking out them for a while, although without the villains admittedly.
Playmates has done a solid job just selling the brand at least.

That, but also they just did such a bad job in general. Red's helmet being so bad comes to mind as one of the many MANY things they did so wrong and then when they looked to be getting in the groove (after a few years) oops lines fucking dead.

I can understand Goldar and the Putty but why would anyone want any of Rita's other jobbers and MotW? even when Hasbro had the license I was just bewildered by the waste of plastic on offer: Tenga Warrior? Eyeguy? all the plastic wasted on king sphinx and the carrot guy could've gone to Lothor, Marah and Kapri.

As someone who watched MMPR for about 2.5 seasons when it came out and almost never again, and saw a bit of Zyuranger more recently in the 2020s but didn't pay close attention, I cannot identify any inaccuracy in that helmet. And that is exactly the lack of meticulousness that Hasbro expects of their consumers. If you want perfect accuracy, some weird Chinese third parties, Japanese imports, or the like are about all that will fill that.
>>
>>11860060
>I really don't understand the logic of choosing 2/3 teams who were completed in the Lightning Collection to launch this new line.
Not only that, but both Zeo and Dino Thunder were released in full in Bandai's Legacy line. Playmates really should have lead with something else for collectors. Time Force is ripe for the picking, and there hasn't been a complete set of Turbo Ranger figures in almost 30 years.

>>11861274
>people are legitimately believing like the playmates was the first cheap kids toy option for MMPR in years when Hasbro was cranking out them for a while
Hasbro didn't really have any cheap, kid friendly MMPR toys beyond those minimally poseable 12 inch figures (which I don't think I ever actually saw in a store), and the Megazord. The only other figures Hasbro made which had a cheap, kid friendly price point were the Retromorphins, but those were Walmart exclusives divided between two waves which were six months apart, and if you didn't pre-order them it was very difficult to find a complete set at retail.
>>
>>11861891
>that is exactly the lack of meticulousness that Hasbro expects of their consumers
And that is why the line failed. Power Ranger fans are extremely autistic and notice these things. Instead of getting it right and making it an appealing figure for everyone, they half-assed the job and soured the mood of the hardcore fans who immediately noticed how wrong it was. Maybe they begrudgingly bought it anyway, but over time all that half-assing and getting things wrong added up and the hardcore fans eventually stopped wanting to buy shitty products with a perpetually increasing price tag.
>>
>>11861996
I congratulate the Power Rangers fandom for winning. You broke the cycle. Your reward is freedom from the chains of consumerism. You can save your money and retire early instead of spending it on cheaply made, inaccurate plastic junk designed to extract maximum profit like the Lightning Collection. Those of us in the Marvel and DC fandoms are still imprisoned in the terrible cycle of corporate abuse. One day maybe we too can be free from the terrible dream of the men in the suits and their endless pursuit of money.
>>
>>11861963
>>11860060

Playmates probably did the same market analysis as Hasbro, found the 2-3 PR properties that they projected would get the highest profits for them and went with that. Corporate decision makers don't think like fans, they don't try to get into the weeds of details or find previously under-served audiences unless they are scraping the bottom of the barrel looking for squeezing the last out of an already long running line. They are averse to risk so they go with the same safe choices, corporation by corporation.
>>
>>11862070
thanks but unfortunately I do still need a Hiya scaled Dragon and Megazord, and I wouldn't mind at least a White Falcon Zord either.
>>
>>11862077
>Corporate decision makers don't think like fans, they don't try to get into the weeds of details or find previously under-served audiences
They do when they have people working for them who are genuine fans who actually care. Hasbro didn't have Power Rangers fans working on the Lightning Collection. Does pic related look like the person you want working on something as autistic and nerdy as Power Rangers? They brought in John Warden to try to save it, and he may have done good things for Transformers, but he still wasn't a Power Rangers fan and didn't understand what Power Rangers fans wanted. We got oversized, out of scale monsters and the ZAP debacle during his tenure. We got the Power Weapons with needless greebles and lightning bolts added to them. The figures still had inaccuracies and inconsistencies. There were still baffling decisions made in regards to character selection. The QC was still terrible.
>>
>>11861626

Because not one single toy line has given us the entire MMPR alien crew all together and it's one of the few worthwhile things left to do with the show's merchandise at this point.

Lool, what is that bullshit? It's a helmet on a human, not a character like Spider-man who has a million different depictions of source material from comics.
Oh, and guess what? They seem to do a fine job with Stormtroopers and Darth Vader. You know what happened when they fucked up Vader's helmet? They fixed it. This was way before they started making Power Rangers figures. But do go on about how we expected too much by wanting the helmet to be accurate the most important piece of a Ranger's outfit.

Titania has always been a hard sell. I suspect the reason he was marketed again back in the day for Season 3 and in space is because they had so many left over they had to do something with all the ones left over from year 1. Maybe not silver titans, that was probably just them trying to use a large mold they had to fill a missing price point that year. But the season 3 release seems like they just made dragonzord chests to resell dead stock.

So those are PLA prints with colored filament, you can totally use Resin (the designer recommends adding some filling to a number of pieces if you go this route) and then paint it however you want to make them look more like real shelf worthy products from a legit company.
Check out this dude that printed a Dragonzord from these files that's about the size of a 4 year old child - https://youtu.be/63K0ggIBbiI?si=--ghUEJkZfr4WY9z
Personally I'd just make them Hiya Godzilla line sized, but you can do whatever you want. This is pretty far down the line in terms of project attention for me but they seem like the best options available at this point. I think I'd just stick with PLA though, maybe get a bead blaster to sand them so you can't see any of those print lines.
Where the fuck else am I gonna get a Serpantina anyway?

And no, I'm not a Super7 shill or anything, the Super7 King Sphinx is honestly just the better looking representation of the character (it has more paint and the face actually looks like how it's supposed to), and it's roughly the same size as the LC monsters. Unless you don't care and you're fine with whatever, in which case nevermind.

And before anyone says anything, I literally bought every single other Lightning Collection monster figure, warts, inaccuracies, and all. The LC King Sphinx is just THAT bad.

Playmates' collector offerings are at least more affordably priced when you take inflation into account, but I think $20 in 2026 is still too high for Power Ranger figures. That's $120 for your average team of six, and most people are not going to buy full teams when it costs over $100. People will generally pick and choose their favorites, leaving the less popular Rangers to peg warm. We've seen this twice already. Bandai couldn't even move the less desirable Rangers when a build-a-figure was tied to them.

I wish Playmates had just stayed in their lane with the cheap 5" figures. The complete non-automorphin set of MMPRs was only $57.99. Also, because it was only sold as a complete set, no peg warmers to deal with. If they had released sets of Zeo, Wild Force, and Dino Thunder Rangers like that for $60 I think they would have sold very well. The $20 six inch figures will just be Lightning Collection 2.0, but somehow worse.
>>
>>11865930
Your complaint about the price sounds like my takes but so many people here tell me I'm crazy because "everything" is insanely expensive now. I can't tell if they're toy industry shills or are just made of money and so they don't really care about buying mostly unpainted figures for $28+
>>
>>11865930
Even then, there's the issue that nobody has been able to shift ranger figures to anyone other than collectors in decades. Kids want masks, wrist morphers, that kind of thing. Just look at sales of Rider belts. Insanely popular with collectors and the actual target demo.
And as you say, collectors will only be interested in the dolls if it's a complete set. Nobody is going to be picking out favourites. That market doesn't exist anymore.

Sure, but it's just always bothered me, even as a kid, that the toys of Tommy's Zords were always so much shorter than the Megazords, considering the actual suits/characters were always about the same size. I knew why it was like that, of course, but it still bugged me.

These two examples kinda make sense though. Most of the Megazord's height comes from the Tyrannosaurus (whose knees plug into the Triceratops and Sabertooth Tiger), who is a little shorter than the Dragonzord.
>>
>>11868649
>>11869289
And all the Thunder Megazord is, is the Red Dragon wearing a suit of armor, so there's not going to be a HUGE difference in size (and, again, the Red Dragon is still a bit shorter than the White Tiger).

>there's not going to be a HUGE difference in size
Except we have the functional toys and there IS a huge difference in size.
>>
>>11869578
Some designs are simply harder to translate into functional toys.
>>
As others have pointed out, Thunder Megazord's design has always been a bit of a tricky one to get right in toy form. I remember getting a mint in-box Thunder Megazord in the early 2000s, and the thing would not stay together in Megazord mode. Even the Legacy and SMP versions both have their own fair share of QC issues.

As for the Dragonzord and Tigerzord always being smaller than the main Megazord...I think once again it's the fault of the combinations. Both Dragonzord and Tigerzord need to combine with 4 other zords, so they need to be more in scale with the Tyrannosaurus/Red Dragon Thunderzord. Dragonzord also has to be small and light enough for the Mega Dragonzord combination to work without collapsing the whole Megazord, with its weight (an issue that plagues the Legacy toys)

I do think Playmates could have made the Tigerzord a bit bigger, but I also wonder if they don't want to take the chance of Tigerzord being a $50-$60 toy and retailers end up rejecting it as they did with the Dragonzord.

With that being said, I think Playmates are going to cook with the Ninjazords. Their designs are a lot more straightforward to do, plus Playmates could get creative with the play features.

Even if it was for the combinations, they didn't need to make it so small. It was clearly an conscious active decision for them to make Tigerzord so small.
>>
>>11869678
>an issue that plagues the Legacy toys
The only reason the Legacy toys had weight related issues is because Bandai loaded them with diecast to appeal to retards who think robot toys need to have metal to justify a premium price point. The truth of the matter is diecast is a gimmick which almost always makes combining robot toys worse than if it had none. If Legacy Dragonzord had been made entirely out of plastic it would have had no issues.

>I do think Playmates could have made the Tigerzord a bit bigger, but I also wonder if they don't want to take the chance of Tigerzord being a $50-$60 toy and retailers end up rejecting it as they did with the Dragonzord.
The Tigerzord was very clearly made as small as it is in order to keep a $20 price point. Walmart was probably only willing to carry it at that price.

I agree...They could have made the Tigerzord bigger

That's an excellent point. Bandai did go overboard with the discast, which resulted in the issues. I remember some figures in Hasbro's Transformers Titanium line being a complete train wreck as well.

The Tigerzord is still only $20 in the US? In the UK, the Tigerzord is £10 more than the other 5 Thunderzords for some reason.

The Thunder Megazord is routinely made larger than the Tigerzord for no good reason. Mega Tigerzord toys always end up having really funky proportions because the Assault Team is too big in comparison to the Tigerzord. The Playmates version is the worst offender yet in that regard because of how small the Tigerzord is. I did this mockup years ago showing how a smaller Legacy Thunder Megazord would have made for a much better proportioned Mega Tigerzord.

And here is the Legacy Thunder Megazord if it had been the same 85% scale. There's absolutely no reason to make Thunder Megazord any larger than the Tigerzord.

How nice for whoever goes to this Walmart.

I hate mine so much.

My Walmarts never even got the endcaps last time so I don't expect them to this time.

Shame Power Rangers doesn't have a KO community like Transformers. An down-scaled all plastic Legacy Thunder Megazord would appeal to a lot of people.

Didn't Bandai do this with the Legacy versions so the Red Dragon could be the same size as the White Tiger while they're both in battle mode?
>>
>>11870305
The resulting problem would've been a short Red Dragon. The Dairanger/Season 2 zord designs were always difficult to translate to toy form. Fortunately Season 3's zords are way easier to translate into toy form, even the Shogunzords.

This is why I always liked that "special size" Thunder Megazord Bandai made. A pinch more suit accurate and it was just about the same size as the deluxe White Tigerzord Warrior Mode.

I never saw that one back in the day, just the special size Red Dragon, Tigerzord, Mega Tigerzord, and Tor. Was able to get it years later on ebay though, and loved it for the reasons you state. It's also more fun to play with than the combined deluxe version which always had shit falling off.

They have a special sized electronic thunderzord for playmates, they had one for the dino megazord too

Looks like they fixed the Putty arm color at some point but both are being distributed.

Which one do you consider the fixed version? Because I'm pretty sure both hand colors are accurate.

Will these new Playmates guys scale well with the Lightning Collection?
