>>11852205Thanks. Walmart's aren't physically convenient, but if I don't see anything at Target or Pep Boys, etc , I will add to my next on-line order.I might just test what Windex equivalents do but what I grabbed at Target does a crap job shining up my electric range.__________On a separate issue, had anyone kitbashed with Turtle figures, particularly the comic lined and shadowed humans. I picked this up yesterday at Ross because it was mistagged as $16.99. But I know there's some human bodies online and Ross as well.I know some people bitch about NECA but I haven't had any issues with the movie (reporter) Nancy I am working on kitbashing.
>>11853593kek, they're really really trying to repackage those
>>11853292Excellent! thank you kindly anon! i'll try to add this from now on as a secondary post whenever possible! Godspeed!
>>11853716Honestly, I have been hording weapons. I need to start selling some bodies but I keep thinking there's a custom idea I will pass on and regret. But then I also have a bunch of plastic I just need to go through and start to unload.
>>11853926I cant believe they never did movie II splinter, the one that I wanted from the start.
Hi guys, I want to make a custom figure using Storm Arena Ken's torso and Nash's legs, but the balljoint doesn't fit and falls at the minimum movement. Is there a way to add something and stop the looseness?
>>11854208if you dont want something permanent, you can wrap the joint in Teflon tape, or plumbers tape its called sometimes. Its not sticky at all, but does stick to itself with a tight wrap.I use this on my action figures where i want a tighter hold on a ball joint.
>>11854313Thanks, in my case I do want it to be permanent kek. Will teflon tape resist constant friction when posing?
>>11854323It has for me, kept a lot of of my heavy mythic Legions standing up right for a while now. Moving around the joint can shift the tape around, but at that point, you have the tightness you want.
>>11854313Plumber's tape is great and I would have never thought about using it for this!
>>11853737You can also trim down the OP copy pasta to keep the OP as one post. I just copied what other gens use but you can abbreviate as well, like>Previous and older (archive) threads:>>11821377 #>https://archive.palanq.win/toy/search/subject/Customs%20General/Just use your best judgement!
I dont know if this even really counts as a custom but this looks really nice with the Toyhax stickers applied
>>11855525It's definitely custom-adjacent and you are SUPER correct on that.
Custom tobey spiderman that i recently completed. I 3d modeled the head on blender then printed it out and gave the entire figure a repaint
>>11856240>Tobey Maguire got bit by a spider but see, me, it was a goat
>>11856242that looks like it took forever. His silver webbing is usually more... lead-colored, I think? gunmetal? but this looks great.
>>11856256Thanks. Yeah, took me like over a year from 3d modeling to completing everything because i was busy with work and i also tend to procrastinate lol>His silver webbing is usually more... lead-colored, I think? gunmetal?Yeah, it should be a gunmetal colour. When i tested my paint with a few lines, it looked ok, but then after finishing everything, i realised it's too shiny. But then i'm too lazy to redo everything, so i'm like screw it, whatever kek
>>11856267definitely fine. the scale fabric pattern on the costume's pretty impressive.
>>11854597>>11854726Thank you
>>11856285Thanks haha
>>11854726I used it a lot for old loose Zoids parts, until I discovered gorilla mounting putty
>>11856256They used graphite to color the webbing during production
>>11856366what like mixed into the rubber?
>>11855525>>11856131I mean, this (not mine, but someone on the Joe's Gen) is all just moving gear around and subbing heads, which is pure kitbash, unless you start to do painting and flesh tone matches, which the dude, to be fair, may have done, but I personally would consider it appropriate to post on this thread. I was already working on something like this with the camo head from the current movie and trying to see what can be subbed from both lines and elsewhere. I also have some fantasy figures I want to try some Classified gear or Marvel Legends weapons and gear - and especially some of the comically oversized McFarlane weapons, like that Frankenstein gun, and just ordered a Mattel movie figure from the 2017 Wonder Woman movie. It was only $10 bucks remaindered at Walmart, which fits my fodder buck budget, to give me a female body to go with the male body I already have fodder parts for.But if I like how these all end up looking, I might try the OP suggestion of looking for cheap KO fantasy figures for fodder bodies to do an entire shelf's worth of display characters. Kind of like a nuclear holocaust middle ages. >>11856242>>11856285>pretty impressive>>11856267>should be a gunmetal colourI agree it looks good, it's often hard to tell by himself and it might get less shiny with age and "shelf-wear" - I'm about to try panel lining a cheap spare Peter B I got at a Ross, but I am using the fine point Sparky because after a month of searching, I could not find a fucking alcohol or metallic, gundam or gundam-equivalent marker in hand that had a fine enough point. And enough people were saying on the ML Gen that they had just used the fine point Sharpie and to just add a finish coat so it wouldn't smear and be even more permanent.
>>11856354museum putty (which you can find at Lowe's and home depot) is also great for more permanent (but still not true fixes), but VERY sticky. I use cheap office supply blu tack putty or the cheap 3M or generic brand poster adhesive you can get at Staples or Target for most everything else.PICREL has both arms broken off, and poster adhesive is what I use, for display posing. Obv it needs a permanent fix, which I have been too lazy to attempt - since no one really offers one good solution, particularly for these older DC Direct type ABS plastic figures.
>>11855525At first I was like "well you didn't make the stickers" but its not like I make my own paint
I should have fucking washed it before painting...
>>11856370For Spider-Man 1/2 I think they lined the aluminum webbing molds with graphite then poured in rubber. for 3, they put adhesive on the webbing and painted the graphite on.I talked to Shownee Smith about this when he was closing up his shop and I was buying stuff from him (his company did the suits for 3). Fun fact, he robbed a bank and is in prison, look up the Dual Valley Bandit
>>11858148huh, i would not think graphite would make a good coating/paint.>a real life bank robberwow. you never hear about those anymore.>and he worked as a special effects artistare you sure his name wasn't really Quentin Beck? I mean 'Shownee Smith' sounds fake as fuck
>>11858148>Costume designer turned bank robberWell, that certainly is interesting. I guess designing costumes for hollywood movies isn't a good gig
>>11858162>>11858260Kek I was just skimming through this and thought you guys were talking about some supervillain character.
>>11858148>>11858162>>11858260>designing costumes for hollywood movies isn't a good gigIt is, it's just - as people complained when Fox got swallowed by DC, and now Skydance has done the same to CBS and Paramount and is working hard to do it to WB, a lot of work (and therefore jobs), no longer exists. For being 41, he doesn't have a lot of credits, and a chunk of them are 'costume fabricator' and/or 'fitter' - which means it was someone else's designs but he was doing stuff like executing them and working out issues by actually being with possibly Tobey or any other actors while costumes were being fitted. As far as the bank robbery, a lot of people in Hollywood lost their houses and businesses closed, during the pandemic lockdowns, and if they survived that, they were then hit by the long strikes. I live in LA, in a lot of ways, the area still isn't fully recovered. We still have business that closed in 2019/2020 that never reopened. The Cineramadome, which is a huge deal here, just finally got leased and will reopen in a year or two, once they do all the refurbishment. It being closed would be like Radio City Music Hall closing for 5-6 years in Manhattan.
>>11858988It's always the billionaire jews ruining people's lives innit...</3
>>11858988>I live in LA, in a lot of ways, the area still isn't fully recovered. We still have business that closed in 2019/2020 that never reopened.you realize that's 4 times as bad everywhere else, right? entire industries shut down>>11859119enough with that backwards nonsense. everyone is sick of you saying the exact opposite.
>>11854208Maybe you can add a ball peg cap
>>11856240>>11856242WIP: Symbiote Spidey~
>>11860110good reuse of the mold or 3d print or whatever you said it was, but um... not to bubble burst or nitpick, but the movie version of the symbiote suit had a slightly different spider emblem
>>11859503Whoever you thought i was, that's not me. I'd suggest you seek help. Have a nice day, troll. No more (You)s for you. :)
>>11860116i meant 'you people'
>>11860115Oh right, thanks for the reminder. I almost forgot about the emblem lmao. Yeah, it's the same tobey figure + my custom head painted black
>>11860130the joints give you any trouble while painting?
>>11860190The thighs and the hip tend to have a lot of paint rub. The rest are fine
>>11859503>4 times as bad everywhere elseI'm not interested in devolving into another faux /pol/, much less a stealth /pol/ back and forth with some random on the internet. We're discussing customs, specifically a Spider-Man custom, and an anecdote about someone who worked on the first three Raimi-verse films came up, in the context of him being a convicted multiple bank robber in the San Fernando Valley (e.g. LA County). In Southern California, production work on live action film and TV, or animation, and the related jobs that come with that, including catering, teamsters, etc., is way down. I just wanted to offer further context to the 'costume work doesn't pay remark. It has relevancy to his costume work and that kind of work generally. That's barely tangentially collected to action figures or action figure customs, even if we wanted to be generous and say I was talking about soft goods. That all said, I neither suggested LA was special, was impacted more (or less) than anywhere else, or anything else you're now wanting to imply. I don't have anything else to offer, so I'm leaving it at that, no matter how many references you make to my mom, what kind of sex I have, what race I am, how poor I am, or that I don't own actual toys of my own to post.tl;dr let's stay on topicThere's plenty of other gens on /toys/ that have been or are are becoming shit show, you are welcome to join in that if that's what really interests you.
>>11860195makes sense. I wonder how well ink would work. like flat-out golf-ball-marking ink.. just stain the shit out of the plastic so once you paint over it, any scrapes don't show.>>11860196sorry dude it just sounded like you were suggesting LA was disproportionately hit. And yeah this board is garbage, best not make it worse.
>>11860208For the black paint, actually i got my dad to help me spray the entire figure at his workshop since he's a car painter, but even then there's still paint rub.But tbf, the standard way to do it is to first sand down the joints before painting. But i don't like ruining my figures, so I guess the paint rub is a compromise i have to make. I'll just have to move the joints more carefully from now on
>>11860232I find it hard to imagine you could ever sand joints enough that there's no more rubbing. they aren't just... floating there magically.
>>11860232>actually i got my dad to help me spray the entire figure at his workshop since he's a car painterThat sounds like a great resource to have access to.I wonder if you had dyed the entire figure, what that would do - I've seen some people do some really great all black like this >>11860110, for GI Joe figures on both their desert camo. And the seller just dropped them in dye. I bid on these and didn't win - it got far more expensive than I thought it should be just for a paint job on a figure you can still buy new for as little as $15 on Walmart or Amazon.
>>11858260His company designed the Superman suits for Man of Steel but didn’t get the job to do them for BvS, which basically killed his company. Started robbing banks after.
>>11860732Fabricated.The same costume designer that Snyder used for every awful suit choice he made, like for Ezra's original JL suit that looked like pieces of left over garbage, to Mamoaman's dark overly busy shit. Using the classic colors and the more classic deco in the first Aquaman movie was Wan's choice, just like changing the costume for The Flash movie was on the Muschiettis. The only one that really didn't get to put her stamp on costumes on their film was Patty Jenkins since she was even stuck with the Hack's costume choices for the other Amazonians.Had MoS won any costume design awards, he wouldn't have been the one getting on stage
Are there good reliable videos in the archive about taking off the entire arm at the shoulder/torso? Or some other good, trust-worthy sources for talking apart bodies to make customs? The things I found on line were all 5/7 years old and talk about cracking the torso at what would essentially be the figures traps if these were muscles. I'm working on doing PICREL but I have like six Egghead bodies and I want to put the lab coat on a The Hood body and harvest his jacket and arms for someone else, and likewise on a Mobius (Loki) body and harvest his suit jacket and arts for say the upper torso on Agent Ross, so those all don't fucking look obviously identical? I don't mind cracking the body, but if I don't have to, I'd rather not.
>>11861503It depends. Nowadays some ML shoulder joints are soft enough that giving it the boil and pop "could" work even if it takes quite a bit to get the joint to pop out. If it still won't budge then yeah, your best bet is cracking the torso by drilling key points of the body's seamlines so you can pry it open and do the swap.
>>11860604Both >>11860232 and >>11860110 are me kek. The black paint was from my dad. I think you can achieve the same result with painting if you're skillful (which I'm not), you just need to apply multiple coatings
HMMMMMMMMMWonder how well this would work with figures
>>11862206an inkwash? Usually pretty well.
>>11862206Depends on what you're trying to do & the color, I'd imagine. A good wash is just going to stain the figure if that's what you want.
I love pic related's design. I have the figure, but I want more so I was thinking of doing a custom. What would be the best starting point? The racing Miku Plamatea?
>>11863266Yeah I think so
>>11863274Looking at it again, the thighs are a little too fat. Are plamateas compatible with each other? I where could I find thighs to replace them with? I've worked with kits before and they are usually hollow and textured. I doubt I could just sand them down.
>>11861560Thanks, I studied art at school but decided against the degree. I was still painting (for fun) about ten years ago) but really haven't done shit. And I'm the anon whose often talking about having no ventilation so I can't really do major painting. I'm about to try some bullet point and brush point metallic and alcohol markers on some cheap figures I've been picking up to test them out.>>11861546Thanks appreciated. I was trying the blow dryer method but I'll try the boil and pop tomorrow since I have the entire day off and I can boil water and let them sit while I do other shit at home.
>>11863359Kudos to everyone who manages shit like this. I can't even do like, intended part removal without agony. and I'm really, really, really strong. like all my stats are in strength.
>>11862206I have a ‘Sasquatch skeleton’ figure from one of those kids’ science kits, I might have to pick up that shade to give the skeleton the same look.
>>11863512fascinating, I'd love to know what anatomical choices they made for what's supposed to be a bipedal ape that USUALLY has humanlike feet, but still has longer arms and shorter legs than a man
>>11863560It’s an interesting skeleton. My only gripe is the ribcage tapering inward going down when realistically something more derived would have the ribs flaring out like a Neanderthal or earlier hominid.
I bought this a long time ago and took off the upper later of the dress and then glued some of it back to fill in the holes but in my attempt to refine it and sand it down I found that the grit of the file comes off and gets stuck to the plastic.I could've easily deduced that before doing it but I was doing it in a very idle mood and with none of my usual tools nor did I try to research what I could use to sand down this rubbery PVC material with. What can I do to fix it? Can it even be fixed?
>>11864080Resin should work? I can't use because no ventilation plus not properly equipped at the moment, even if i had some around. If not resin, other similar subtances? To patch up those areas, very carefully, like if you were putting putty to cover and fix small nail holes in your walls before you let your landlord inspect? I'm about to try the really sticky generic blu tack adhesive type materiai, which does dry out and 'firm up' a bit just being exposed to air, to fill in the hole in the back of a really good unmasked male head that happens to fit 6 inch bodies, since I have a bunch of headless bucks I took from an auction. This guy had a pony tail that was loose and hanging from his "hair" but removing it left a small hole.I already tried some Gundam marker and I can match his current hair pretty closely, I just need this crap to dry and make a firm flat surface.
>>11862206>>11862298>>11862554Yeah - if that's your before and after, it looks good. I have some NECA heads I might try that too.>>11863372One night I was really frustrated and just started taking pieces apart, it's very therapeuticI don't want to break the stuff but even just removing heads was funTypically you can take apart a lot as you can see from this random ebay snapshot
Buff Alien Kitbash
>>11864563i'm amazed things don't just snap all the time
>>11864919Apparently, they do. On some of those 5, 6 and 7 year old videos, which means 2015 or so Marvel Legends to 2020, they were talking a lot about how they had damaged bucks.
>>11864919If this guy isnt heating them up its surprising to me too.But the Gummy plastic hasbro uses means nothing will every fucking break as long as you soak it in boiling water for 7 seconds.
What sculpting apoxie do I use if I want it somewhat flexible?? I remember there being a big roll of blue/green 2 part apoxie on Amazon, but I can’t seem to find it anymore.
>>11865057that sounds like 'green stuff' specifically in its tape form.there's a whole website that company has with a bunch of great materials
>>11864976I was pulling heads out without heat. Some hands also popped out. If it gave me resistance, I tried the hot blow dryer air trick, for 30-60 seconds depending on how thick. The Classified bucks (yes, Hasbro) came apart pretty easily but I only wanted to take the shoulders off one.The other three are Hasbro Legends and those I tried blow dry air and it just pulled out the fore arm and/or the upper arm - but not the shoulder. That's when I tried hot water but hot from a tap. And was SOL which is when I started to look at videos and post my dumb question.
>>11864418Ah, no, those aren't empty holes. They are already filled but when I sanded it down using whatever I had at hand, the grit got stuck into the glue.I need something to get it out because I intend to add further stuff to the skin tone plastic.
>>11865214AHI would try a hot water bath first and the then a q-tip with low alcohol (not the 90 and maybe not even the 70% but 50?) - but hopefully some repeated hot baths will do the trick.
>>11865235Okay.Assuming it works, what kind of sandpaper could I use on it? Those really fine ones for sanding nub leftovers?
>>11865272>nub leftoversthey're called flash 8D
Hey, what's a good source for joints these days? I've gotten some off AliExpress from AC Toys Factory that are pretty good.
>>11865320I'd like suggestions as well, and NO, I don't have a 3D printer or a pal with one.I bought a bunch of heads from two different sellers and many didn't have the dumbbell joints so now I have some heads I can't do squat with. >from AC Toys Factoryreasonably priced if you need a lot?
>>11865272>really fine onesI would think so, but I have a set of really really fine ones I got from an Ace Hardware ages ago and just keep cutting small pieces from to use it sparingly - and it doesn't honestly come up much that I need to sand anything (yet)Last time I looked in places like dollar stores and even Home Depot/Lowes, the sandpaper they sold was quite limited or you were buying a bunch of different packages. Ace sold me a good assortment, like 50 sheets or so in a box/package, 5 or so per grade, probably $10 when I bought this probably 10 years ago? And I still have a good third left, I think? But I moved in 2023 and went to two different local hardware stores and couldn't find basic crap, like Murphy's wood soap or specific putty meant for filling wood (furniture, walls, etc.). I think small business have been so beaten down by Bezos that they don't keep even 10% of shit people would buy in stock.

For resin casting, is there any powdered pigment I could buy to mix in with the resin and pour?
>>11866644From what people who do resin casting tell me, yes. I wish I had more info than that, but I can tell you definitively, that is how you do it: you add in powdered pigment. I've seen the results. They are rad.
>>11866096I see your yellow in the first photo but no so much in the second. I don't think you should worry. It looks good. I like how it looks like nail polish on his claws. is there a cheap Is there an affordable Onizuka figure similar in size to a Figma or Figuarts? The closest thing I can find is this; I want to take the head and put it on a body wearing a suit, since there isn't an articulated figure of him available.
>>11867215If it’s in a close-enough scale, lopping off the head and finding a body to attach via drilling a peg hole or a larger space to house a socket (depending on the body’s neck joint) is likely your best bet. Cannibalizing statues for the head is a common thing in customizing.
>>11867439I have a figure customizing idea that involves a head transplant myself, but finances and mood and time... all getting in the way. I hope it's still available later.
>>11867441Keep us updated if you get the chance, anon. Godspeed.
>>11867215I tried doing this >>11867439 and would practice on some cheap crap. I probably don't have the setup or tools. But yeah, there are some figurines and PVC statues that have head scuplts I would love to harvest.
Quick and dirty Rick Taylor spliced from a Storm Arena Wonderfest Ryu, ML belt, hands from Chronicles He-Man, GI Joe neck and a custom comm’d head. If someone like Kenner can do, essentially a 5POA dog, why can't Hasbro or McFarlane have done that?
>>11869472>>11869457I still like the Mattel dinos. I'm not sure I see Classifieds as affordable. I do like that they do stuff like give the dogs and wolves/cayotes alternate heads.
Does anyone have experience with vinyl wonder paints? I see it used a lot on pvc figures obviously but they say it also works on resin, which is what I would be using it on. It's supposed to be scratch resistant and bond to the plastic directly. Just wanted to see if anyone has already tried it on resin before I pick it up to try myself.

I did pick up another loose Law but overpaid, even with all his gears, because I was hoping to combine ship him with at least one other auction win, bug the rest got absurdly high - especially for what they were. So $10+ just wasted on postage.
Ordering some Krylon from Walmart just because that's what I used when I was in art school. A friend suggested the Mod Podge Spray in the clear matte (and I see 'high gloss' and a bunch of other brands I'd never heard off. Mister Hobby seems to be mentioned more often when I look on planq but Krylon Matte gets mentioned more frequently, more recently. Modge podge barely gets a page of responses but some very specific uses.Any thoughts, class?
>>11870928I don't think krylon is ideal for toy plastic, but I could be super fuckin wrong
>>11871273That's why I'm asking from experienced folks. Krylon is what I used in art school. Almost none of that was plastic. That said, people are using Krylon, at least the matte finish, on toys per the archive.
Almost complete, now it's just painting mainly.

Walmart is mostly useless, they wanted the driver to ask to see my ID to deliver a can of matte finishing spray. I waste my afternoon sitting around to be here, buzz them in but they leave instead of coming to my unit like a normal human. But they do finally have these back in stock so I decided to grab if for the head although I still think $13 is too much, it's the best price I have seen all year without being raped on postage.

But gave up on the 'lopping off' part because I don't really have a sharp enough tool to slice the head off that wouldn't damage everything too much to be of use - at least I'm not confident I can manage that bit right now.

Chop off from the upper neck and then drill out the neck remnants to put in a joint adapter to whatever figure it’s going to. Use either CA glue or epoxy putty to secure a joint if it’s a stationary part like a peg, ball, or socket. Using greenstuff to fill the neck whole instead, then drilling a hole slightly narrower than a peg for the neck or neck joint will allow it to grip the peg but still allow swiveling.
>>11872645Thanks. Pretty sure you also were one of the people who offered suggestions when I asked a few months back.I did buy an inexpensive 'craft' tool kit that included some additional needle-nose pliers and a few other tools I thought would help me with both model kits and customs, it has these types of tools. And I did make an attempt, it just felt like the whole thing was going to crack and I stopped. I thought at the time a vise grip and towel would help. I still have everything and may try again.

The advantage is you don't have to strip the boots and other crap that a wrestling buck would have on them.

>>11875703The only problem I see with that, based on the DBZ toys I picked up as fodder because they were $3.99 or so at Ross, is that they are tiny so the heads have small pegs. Someone said they got some pegs for ankles from Mythic Legions? It's annoying. I bought two lots of over 150 heads and most don't have pegs. Some I can't use so I just need to sell them off and a lot of them are GI Joe helmeted army builder heads, a few had the pegs stuck up them, but most don't have anything.

Got a free can of this stuff from Walmart in exchange for an "incentivized review" - I've used stuff like it with my brother-in-law when we used to do wood working craft projects when I would visit my younger sister. I haven't tried doing a diorama but it's on my mental drawing board and it looks like this works on PVC.Any thoughts on what I can use it for with custom action figures? And I assume like everything else, I'll need to work with it outdoors since I am the anon with no ventilation, so I will need to be alert on humidity like with any spray paint type can?
>>11877047It's awesome stuff and can primer a surface for instant bond but I use it after I put superglue down, instantly hardening the surface. Stinks and yes you want to use it outside, vapors are pretty nasty.
>>11877047>cyanoacrylate sprayisnt that what they use in combat for really bad wounds that need to stop right now, regardless of some tissue irritation?
>>11867120You can get them at Academy sports or Amazon. Tubes are super durable and are near impossible to snap, they just stretch out. Just search for "high visibility earplugs"
>>11877122You're thinking of the flesh-foam trauma spray, it's not really a glue but a sticky expanding foam that clogs up whatever is leaking from the new holes someone put in you. This stuff is just a super glue activator. Instead of holding the parts together for 10+ seconds it instantly crystalizes the glue and makes two surfaces "oops I can't adjust it now" super fast sticky.
>>11877124ohhh I get it, they'd be harder to lose because they're neon.>>11877127ahhh like faster plastic cement, okay.
>>11877120>but I use it after I put superglue downYep, exactly. We used it for wood working projects with wood glue. My sister had just had kids so I talked her husband into making a crib. They still got divorced, so what can I say. He had shitty taste in beer. And thanks! So I can definitely use it on PVC and ABS plastic, just outside?>>11877136Again, I have used this particular product but from looking on Walmart, this is actually a highly rated brand on Amazon and elsewhere and you can allegedly use this type of product on everything from bathroom or floor tile or for replacing window panes. I am going to visit some family members in the Bay Area with all those old Victorians so I might pack it in checked luggage since they almost always have shit that needs repaired. But my own personal experience is using SOMETHING like this for wood work and that was almost a decade ago.

Been a long time coming, but I FINALLY got my custom Papi figure made. printed in polished SLS PA12 Nylon off Sculpteo.com it is 100% with no other joints or hardware from other sources. The print includes extended wings with open hands, tucked-in wings with ball-jointed optional hands (gripping, open, thumbs-up), individually articulated bird talons on feet (see next pic), realistic closed-mouth smile, open mouth excited face, ahegao face, and a face with smooth details for the eyes to allow waterslide decals. Next will be the paint/dye.
>>11879337Gripping articulated talons close-up.
HmmmmThis is kinda gross lmao >>11879337Looking forward to seeing it painted
>>11879425Painting this thing has lead me to the conclusions that the reason they didnt do a blackwash, is most likely because of the price, but also, its very time consuming because I'm constantly cleaning the paint off the eyes to keep them white. Maybe that would be too time consuming and complicated for a factory or something. Whats a comparable figure? I remember people saying the original is painted better but I think they just meant all the eye dots were filled in
I'm 3d printing a dummy13 to look like Kris from Deltarune. I'm struggling with finding a small chest armor (not full torso like the one from the plate armor knight) can anyone point me to a good enough armour model?
>>11879337looks absolutely incredible.>>11879443i would think you'd mask off the eyes with a lil puttyalso not filling in all the eyes is just lazy no matter how you slice it
>>11879486I dont know if they'd do the putty in a factory But yes they should have colored every eye. Or did a mask for it. I dunno, something. Cause it is a better toy than the original it just has no paint
Wondering if I should clear coat this now or do the fronts of the limbs first
>>11879337>>11879342Wow, very cool. Did you make a prototype of this beforehand or something? Seems like a lot of work, just interested in how you got there.
>>11879490yeah i'd expect a factory to have precise lil programmable sprayers, and not need masking
>>11879633Yeah so I wonder what the deal wasMaybe too many angles, cause like, every time a paint brush touches a figure that costs money so like surely a mask and a spray is just one charge right
>>11879595Thanks! Papi here mostly is just a retooled variant of my petite female blank body I have on Cults3D. The hips, thighs, and knees are all a new design I was looking to test to overhaul the current versions on my petite blank body kit, but are based on experiences with hinges and base ball-socket components I have saved for reusing in my various figure ideas. Papi’s feet are retooled 5mm ball-hinges that I successfully designed years back and decided to try using to make articulated talon digits with. The wings….those individual feathers were a LONG process of adding and arranging on the base human arm parts to try and replicate the manga depiction and detail (albeit not a perfect 1:1 still). I might make a proper anime-style head and faces later.
>>11879730it so makes me want an entire line of more anatomically correct mythology figures. ahhh why can't toy designer be a valid career path? though even if it were, people would just use AI I guess...
>>11879861For me it’s articulation above all else. Plenty of good sculpted figurines and statues exist, plenty of articulated humans, and a few articulated species of animal groups in varying amounts (dinosaurs especially). Be it western or import style, the tech is there for making demihumans that are highly articulated, but it’s a niche that is still barely represented beyond some girlpla kits and kemonomimi style races right now.
>>11880277yeah and also most animals are harder to articulate than we are. their limbs tend to be buried in their bodies. we're lucky ours are so separated.
>>11879425>>11879443The wash looks better but as someone who know has to apply hot compresses to my eyes on the regular to deal with dry eye problems and other crap in my eyes, all that redness really just makes me feel for what is essentially a mythical monster. I do think your attempt looks good but yeah, it does look gross. I don't see how you could keep it to one area tho.>>11879337>>11879342Yeah, I'd be curious to see it painted and see some progress shots of how you do it.>>11879454Well based on the bracers and other things you are doing/using, I first thought about MOTU. Sadly, it doesn't seem like there's a lot of fodder but I think any medieval lines might work. And not every bit of He-Man (or other character) armor is a harness or has an "H" or cross.

How many sprays of top coat do you guys usually do
I shake this thing like crazy every time but so far I've gotten three different shades of green out of the same Gundam Pen
>>11880965One of the basic things you learn once you get into water colors or other actual paints in art school was how to layer and otherwise overlay, even the same color, to create something new. Additionally, you have to take into account your base color, unless you stripped it all and that was what you intended - and wanted the green on top?
>>11880993Well I actually wanted that super dark green but then after painting the whole back that color it decided it will become the lighter green
>>11879337In addition to Papi I also had printed in the same order an attempt at an OC monstergirl species: non-bird maniraptoran/cockatrice. Basically a feathered dromaeosaur or troodontid near-harpy. The figure reuses nearly everything Papi was designed with save the arms, hips, and inner toes. The tail’s joints aren’t as stable as I’d hoped, so I’ll need to reinforce the hinge from popping off too easily. The wrists are prone to popping off too, I might upscale the ball and socket or just make it a simple hinge. Otherwise not bad for a retool of Papi. I did make a male model (yes, a male) that just was completely flat chested and has sculpted dangly bits, but otherwise an identical sculpt. Unfortunately one of the hip joints got lost during production due to faulty 3D feature in my STL for the print, so the male will be unassembled for now.

Thanks again for the folks in the last thread who suggested the alligator clips. I went ahead and bought the kit that comes in a dozen with the magnets and metal case that holds the spares. I will probably hit the hardware store at some point when I need other stuff and get a piece of something else to use as a base and just use the tin box as storage. This is all done with cheap, off brand alcohol/metallic and standard markers. If people remember from the last thread, I was originally trying red hair but I did a second attempt with that same metallic red but then with a sort mud brown on top. I was shooting for auburn hair - which is not what I got but this is going in a pile of heads to dump and sell. Still clearly Everett Ross or Dr. Watson. Or Martin Freeman, if you will, but just no longer youth pastor grandpa Martin.

They have become such a crappy company to deal with. These are allegedly nice and thick and it will be fun to test some of the metallic Faux Gundam markers on these, since this lot was only $9.99.
