thanks for the $200
but they had to stop at some point

you got enough value for your two hundred dollars. the lack of Mr. Krabs and Sandy and Larry the Lobster and what was the Whale girl's name... won't hurt sales enough to justify the cost of producing those elements. they had to stop. it's only two hundred dollars and they are only a small family-owned business please understand
>>
>>11860955
That's because the original designer didn't include one because he didn't plan to include a flukeman minifig. Lego can't improve Ideas designs, they can only corrupt and cut corners.

it's so Lego can charge the $X00 for it
if it looks like a toy, people will freak out about $X00

sure it might still be SpongeBob, but it's like... not a childish thing, you're okay spending $X00, it's not a toy, can't you tell that by the box design?

In terms of impact, either this or the Futron Monorail. I remember so badly wanting the monorail and going to a toy store and trying to convince my parents that the obviously add-on track set was actually the main set because I was a child and didn't understand that they weren't the same thing. What bugs me the most is the Blacktron Renegade remake having a black box. The Galaxy Explorer remake, which is very similar in size and style, had a box that homaged the original, and the GWP Blacktron Cruiser also had a retro-style box with the grid background, but the Rnegade just used the boring black box.
Especially odd since unlike a lot of the adult collector sets it isn't just built as a big dust-collector, but has actual play-features that do make it feel like a somewhat more elaborate take on the old space themes' big ships (it's about the same size as stuff like the Ice Planet Deep-Freeze Defender, though with more pieces).

This one for me. I was like 8-9 and my family was going through a split where my Uncle/Godfater and his family was beefing with my Mom and Aunt over some bullshit. There is not much to fuck up with this set, but i agree it will probably be overpriced. It has been 23(?) years since the first release, so this might be my only chance to get a version of this set before i die. Hopefully it will include the first Dexter, because lego will never make his diner as a set. I will go on rampage if this turns out to be a smart brick set.

you know this is LEGO, right? you can build your own version. Lego has re-done the X-Wing so many times, it's not important anymore to have "the official Lego version" of anything
if you need Lego to "do it for you" you might as well buy a model kit or some other type of collectible for it.

you might need a non-yellow Zam Wesell tho. it's been so long, the minifig of Zam Wesell has a yellow face! guaranteed they mess up her new Minifig. every time they re-do a figure these days, they always mess it up. my expectations are rock-bottom-low. it's going to be terrible. which is why I'm not eager to see the new version. at least now I can imagine it will look cool. as soon as I see it, I'll know Lego messed it up.

much like a lot of what Lego does, trial and error (?)
- put set in black box, 18+ on the label
-- sales increase 5-8%
--- okay, let's keep doing that

I have a sneaky feeling that they are only doing le-black-box because it simply saves time, money, and effort of creating background art. just make the background black and be done with it. it has nothing to do with the actual presentation

the "18+" is 100% meant to imply it's "okay" for ADULTS to purchase it. a flat-out admittance that this overpriced set is... duh, not really for children, and you don't have to pretend in the least bit that you are buying it for a child when you purchase it, and if other people in society see you carrying it out of the store you can point out the 18+ to deflect ridicule that you just bought a toy for several hundreds dollars

It's so fucking weird, if you give an artist or band their own line of sets, why not choose one of the 150 that would print money. I had to look up who this literal who is. I'm still convinced someone pushed their plan through at lego, either by their own power and influence or by sucking some dicks.

>give an artist or band their own line of sets, why not choose...
I honestly don't feel bad about this
there seems to be two options:

A - someone is a super mega fan of [THING], and freaking made it happen, with some kind of amazing argument, power, or influence. they work for Lego, like [THING], and [THING] gets sets! for real! for really-real! this is literally the dream we all have. if we worked for Lego, and could make really-real sets for OUR [THING] we totally would. so when somebody else does it... well... good for them.

B - Olivia Rodgrigo has the best agent ever, somebody pushed Lego to make not only one, but a whole line of options. my client is the best, worthy of this type of attention. when other people see these, it will cement her as the next best thing, since Lego only does a very select group of important sets. does Taylor Swift have a Lego? no? guess who does? Olivia freaking Rodgrigo, that's who. you have to applaud that kind of tenacity to forced exposure.

>>11861446
The castle situation pisses me off so bad. Same with pirates. Lego knows there's a huge amount of demand and without new sets all that money ends up chasing old product on the secondary market. It also causes people to flood the bricklink designer program with their dogshit designs to try to get a piece of the action. I'm sorry but BDP isn't the same as a real set. And neither is buying 100 torsos on PAB. It's just not the same.

Aquazone feels like a "spiritual successor" to space themes. It features very similar design language and the rotating faction-based subthemes that are supposed to share a setting is similar to what space was doing from late 80s to late 90s. It's just set under water instead of in space.
Also, Aquazone is almost certainly based on the canceled Seatron space subtheme, which was supposed to take place on an ocean-planet.

>Post your childhood-defining Lego set.
Picrelated was my 90s top tier lego set.

- post-soviet hell hole
- economy crisis of the 90s
- poor family
- american/etc. products flooding the market and your head feel dizzy from all that cool and colorful stuff but nobody has money for any of that
- you want lego. You want to have castle or something cool but you can't even ask parents because your family is struggling with food even (we even sold our grandparents books to buy stuff like bread or milk)
...
....
.....
- Mom gets paid by "tickets that allow you to get stuff from one specific store"
- we go to store
- we get food
- at the very last minute mom says that i can get 1 toy because there is some amount left to tuck that in.

I quickly run to lego section and chose this specific set.
it's amazing
it has a super cool minifigure with shiny sword and a FUCKING DRAGON in it.
I was playing with this thing for the rest of the 90s.

Seems to be conflicting information. Ultimately, it's a toy. It doesn't really matter.

Damn, I wish I could find a copy of that set, just the Batlord on a dragon.

Both literally and grammatically, yes.

You're right. You don't own lego to begin with.

How to Train Your Dragon
is the worst franchise name for a thing, ever.
it only works once, then the dragon is trained. I get it, it's got kids and dragons. it's a cool thing but I gotta wonder how much more cultural impact that franchise would have had if it had a better name.

I'm so mad this will only be a once a year thing. If next year's is something lame like an evil clown circus I'm gonna fucking lose it.

>Lovecraftian esoteric cult of dagon building
>Little shop of horrors plant store with killer plants
>Lovecraftian occult specialist detective agency losing his mind on the case

Something like this please

I like going into the art store and checking out all the little light-up buildings each year. this is "duh... obvious" how Lego was doing this type of thing for Xmas and all along they could have been doing Halloween, too.

glow-in-the-dark is a cheap substitute for lights or other motor functions. Lego spent a zillion dollars on a Smart Brick and customers simply want light-up sets that move on their own. Lego should spend a zillion dollars to figure that out.

Why are there two threads now?

they obivously wanted a taylor swift line, but only this bitch no-one over 20 has heard of returned their calls. At least the cheerleader fig looks exploitable.

I won't agree it's kino, but at least kids actually bought the Mario sets. The Pokemon sets are gonna shelf warm just as hard as the star wars smart brick sets.

With there already being brian's mk4, no. And Dom's RX7 is more iconic if they decide to do that car. I personally pray they make the eclipse. It seems like the more plausible option overall. It's stands out from the other "iconic" cars

check those Wally Worlds y'all

I still passed on 'em.
I think at this point if you gave me the Smart Brick for free I'd be like "Hmm... no thanks, I'm good."

every video I've seen of kids playing with these sets, they still made the pew pew noises with their mouths like a normal kid, 70% of the time.

This gimmick is intended for little children but they made it a price point where it prices out little children.

imagine a cheap beer trying to price itself as a vintage vine. It was always meant to flop because there is just so many better alternatives for that price point.

This set hits me right in the nostalgia like nothing else besides maybe Bionicle
Atlantis was such a good theme, I wanted this set so bad for Christmas I would fall asleep while staring at the images of it on the Lego website in hopes my parents got the idea that I REALLY wanted it
We were too broke for it that Christmas but I remember getting the giant squid attack, piranha attack and a few other smaller sets and being really happy with them. Also the Dino Defense HQ I’m very nostalgic for as well

I would be shocked if it's even that cool. Lego doesn't really come up with imaginative ideas for sets anymore. They're all pretty straightforward and boring concepts. The inaugural set for this line is just a generic vaguely spooky building with standard city figs. I'd imagine the rest of the line will be similar. We'll get stuff like funeral home, abandoned house, etc. with exterior detailing being the main focus.

What's a good scale for mini builds?
the scale here is the fighter is about the same size as a hondajet elite 2.

here we are, don't know the specific model of the plan I used to set the scale
>>
>>11863539
Many years ago Lego did a Star Destroyer in a midi scale where 1 stud was approximately 50m. There used to be a site up where a guy would upload his mini and micro builds from various sci-fi and several were scaled to that ISD (pic related is a Nebulon-B frigate in that scale). Through some tinkering I managed to build a decent MC30c at that scale, pretty good for medium to large capital ships but fighters would be under 1 stud for the most part. Studs are a useful metric for establishing scale, at least for length and width; height gets a bit tricky.

Actually this makes better sense, the fighter is still big enough to use docking ports while the copilot has to sit behind the pilot as I'm basing the premise off of the game starlancer.

I reckon if I where to restart the project I should probably make the torpedoes out of rods rather than cylinders and then ret-con the current torpedoes to an appropriate missile.
