I'm not an army men collector myself, so sorry if this is an idiotic question, but do you ever/have you ever painted your army dudes? Or is that more expensive/time consuming than it's worth, or would it spoil the the armies' aesthetics?

For most of my childhood I had maybe a few painted soldiers picked up from flea market bulk buys and they always felt anomalous among their monochrome brethren. Eventually I formed a "Veterans" brigade for army men who don't fit in with all my other units which includes all the painted ones. I actually took some out for the day's shoots last week and they're great for standalone vignettes. Within the context of the Colour Wars it's more challenging to find a place for them, though I won't count out the potential for a plotline featuring them someday.The other part of it is I have literally thousands of soldiers and if I started painting some I'd probably move into the mindset of needing them all to be painted, well maybe heh I dunno really. I really like seeing what others have done with army men and treasure the randoms I occasionally get with secondhand finds; it just isn't something I'd want to develop further though.

Anyone ever seen the Planet of the Apes figures in the wild? My biggest issue is there aren't enough Apes. I suppose 3d printing is really the best way to get a "squad" right now.

>>11863930Most "toy grade" army men don't paint well at all. It doesn't stick to the soft plastic for whatever reason. You can paint the smaller 1/72 scale figures made by model kit companies, but as >>11863971 said it requires a lot of patience and skill if you want them to look halfway decent.

I use both alongside larger soldiers such as the Timmee classics; honestly they work well enough next to the smaller soldiers.If choosing between the options I would recommend the (mostly) modern army (Tan here) over the schizo (Blue) guys, on both quality and commonality of era. Have to caution that you may not get them if you order through that link; I ordered some once through a similar (or maybe the same) listing and got the schizo guys in blue instead of the modern.
