>>11871928I just don't think there is really an organic way to make a movie based on Matchbox cars, you could do a movie on the creation of the toys maybe, but nothing really in universe. Hot Wheels at least has an angle where it can be a racing film, but with the whacky over-the-top designs. Basically take all the racing sequences from the Speed Racer movie and just do that with Hot Wheels cars.Honestly that's probably why they're doing this first because even if it turns out to be a really good movie, it's going to be over shadowed by the inevitable Hot Wheels film. >>11871972Mattel bought Matchbox because the company that created Matchbox went bankrupt and sold off the license and tooling, the company that bought it ended up suffering financially and by the 90s needed a buyer. Honestly if Mattel hadn't bought Matchbox they'd have probably gone the way of Corgi.As for why they're making this first, like I said here >>11871952 I think they know that making a Hot Wheels film first would kill any chance of a Matchbox movie succeeding. They probably want to do this first to make money off the brand before going in for the big hit with Hot Wheels. That said the appeal of Matchbox is the more realistic styling of the cars, as opposed to Hot Wheels more exotic aspects. The Matchbox movie can focus on action centred around real-world vehicles, the Hot Wheels can be more fantastical.

Although I do think they'd be smarter to make them more kid friendly, kid's love die-cast cars, the films really should be targeted toward them. Doing a clone of F&F makes more sense if it's child-friendly.
