Anyone else notice their local Target stores shrunk the toy aisle significantly after a recent remodel?The ones around me added a new blind box section and turned the whole back wall into a TCG area (that is barren and sparkly every time I go there). The area with NECA toys and other collectible stuff is now gone.The regular toy ailses seemed to have shrunk a little by making Lego get two aisles and pushing the RC cars and other not-Lego stuff into another aisle. They also added a sport toys section, which would have been cool had they not shrunk all the other sections significantly.I'm a bit let down because Target is literally the only place left that I actively go to for buying retail toys and can normally find stuff. Now it looks like the odds of finding stuff at any of the stores is cut down a lot.

>>11872939Mine did that a year ago. The "adult toys" are being used as filler in what used to be the physical music and movie section, which Walmart also does. The "kid toys" section is the same as you described but the pokemon cards are separate from all other TCGs because of scalpers.
Why is their logo a shooting range target?
I went to mine for the first time in a few months yesterday and did notice a remodel but the toy aisle seemed about as big as before. only real noticeable thing (beyond some things changing places) were all the board games being moved to replace the "adult" section and the legos taking up an entire extra shelf

The NECA figs have been moved though to basically where they used to have the movies and other physical media section. At the two I've seen, it consists of a couple shorter aisles and then with endcap displays and then another display with stuff hanging on pegs. Next time I go to Target I'll snap a pic. Stock seems to be about the same, minus a good deal of Funkos, that is the only thing at mine that seems to have shrunk. But yeah now the back wall is just for TCG shit, but the NECA section is still right in front of it basically.

Our Targets remodel actually expanded the toy section and made it easier to shop.

Birthrate issues. Births peaked at 4.3 million in 1958, then in 1990, then again in 2008 but are now down to 3.55 million in 2024. Enforcement actions against birth tourism has likely lead to a further 20% drop among various groups that previous engaged in such, amounting to a decrease to as little as 3.4 million. As birthrates continue to slide, stores are preparing more Adult Diapers, Nintendoo cards for flush-with-cash middle aged scalpers and reducing toy aisles due to there being proportionally and numerically fewer kids than 20-30 years ago and those kids being less interested in toys.

I always imagine scalpers as the hunters in toy stores. They know all the tricks, they know the reset dates, how to move efficiently through the aisles, all the street dates. We collectors don't stand a chance.

Scalpers can buy all the, let's say LEGO Star Wars Death Stars they want, but if the company makes plenty, it's meaningless that they are there, early. It's annoying for someone like a parent, or someone who didn't have the money to buy something when it was newly out, but that's the way the market is now as far as finances, toys aren't going to stay in stores forever, the way movies also don't stay in theaters forever.

Lego has the benefit of having a functional online infrastructures that continue to stock items like you would expect during the long production window. Hasbro Pulse sells out of Starscream or Prowl and its too bad so sad because they won't likely restock anytime soon if at all. And for whatever reason other various online storefronts are also unable to do a simple restock on highly-demanded items. Probably because they'd have to meet an unrealistic threshold to get them shipped or because they'd have to order them in waves with figures that are already clogging up the warehouse. Its all really poorly designed.
