I haven't fully watched it but the little I saw it suffers from the standards of the time. That an anime should go for the full year meaning around 50 episodes, and to make that many fast and cheap it's outsourced to multiple studios overseas. That means the quality differs substantially episode to episode. Current popularity I believe isn't from the anime itself but the good designs and resulting performance of the toys and kits. More people might know Tekkaman just from figures or the SRW games than the show at this point.

It's a slog to get through and one of the only anime that I ever abandoned in the later half because it's so slow and riddled with filler stuff. If it was 26 episodes, sure, but 49 + 3 OAV ? Fuck no.
