are those ak models good?
I like AOZ stuff but the whole line being pbandai is a complete kick in the balls so seeing 3rd parties tackle it for a cheaper price seems like the better option
>>
>>11877032
well that is what I'm going to find out
I have never build one of these but plenty of reviews state they are pretty good, especially the woundwort, much better than the previous XFS one which was a well documented floppy mess
some reviews even state this one is even better than bandai's regarding being able to hold the giant gun once put together
>>
After enjoying building that God Gundam at the end of the last thread I may have just gone on a rampage and bought four RGs turning up on Wednesday. I got:
>Shining
>Force Impulse
>Astray Gold Frame Amatsu Mina
>Full Armor Unicorn
And they all look dope.
>>
I finally got into this after wanting to buy these for years(work had me moving around for years so I was very minimalist during that time). I got 3 HGs to start off. It’s pretty fun. I will get more in the near future

I usually only buy duplicates for army builds (Leo, GM, Jegan, Jesta, etc.), but I do have a leftover HG Wing Zero TV because I bought it before the RG was announced. I also have two RG Zetas and RG Destinies, the former for kitbashing purposes and the latter because I spotted one at Hobby Lobby for cheap and jumped at the chance for some extra kitbashing fodder.

Cost cutting, like the little Combattler came all in a red semi waxy plastic and the mazinger z was in the same semi waxy black as those guys above. Bandai’s plastic quality was all over the place for small kits, the chrome zeta gundam had his back crack open when I cut him from the runners

He’s fine now, completely worth the price (I think double zeta is still on eBay in complete chrome for like $40-45usd but they’re not the bb senshi or G-Gen versions they’re SD gundam world which is its own mess lol). If you’re interested in SRW ones I’d check AliExpress. Price is standard between 25-45 on SDCS kits but they’re have them which is more than most places :/ and with cheaper shipping
>>
>>11877563
I have multiple different grades of the rx-78-2 mostly due to the fact that they’re usually on sale at shops where I’m at. So i just use them to experiment when I want to try something new on a kit but I’m not entirely sure it will be as cool as I think it will be with the kit i want to do it on so I try it on those first

So there’s SD Gundam World from the early 90s, which is what the chrome zeta gundam is from, its also the only traditional SD line which has nicegundam or the rick dias, its closer to wave 1 of BB Senshi where they’re really bloated and more proportional. But they have ones like Pat Labor and Dunbine. Not to be confused with SD gundam world heroes, which I’m not a fan of for raisins

Two HG Zaku
Technically 3 RG Sazabi but two are third party recolors
Two 2.0 RG rx-78-2, one is the base color
Four MG wing zero Ver Ka the original, two recirculation color and I just bought a clear
I had two RG tall geese because I broke an arm and couldn't get a replacement
Two RG Wings to keep one in bird mode
Two RG God Gundams, one I was going to do a custom hyper mode
And for non gundam kits, I have two Figure Rise Imperialdramon one to keep in dragon mode
And two Metagross, one I did in a custom shiny color

HG RX-78-2, the original RG, the Fatcat upscale.
The Fatcat God
RG Unicorn, RG Perfectability, MG, MGEX, MG FA.
MG Epyon, RG Epyon
I guess the Crossframe Girl GaoGaiGar counts as a third?

yeah the articulation situation pre2000 on sd kits is kinda grim ngl but i do like the early intro kits during zeta gundam from lines like
>ka world - cutie pie zeta gundam who transform to wear sunglasses and turn into vehicles for sd style pilots to ride in
>parochenman (パロチェンマン) - ultraman, fist of the North Star, Godzilla, etc with gimmicks you build into them
>robochenman (ロボチェンマン)- every mid 80s mecha that Bandai could make kits for
>gachapon series (pic rel)
They really need to step their game up more on making cooler little guys, and aoshima needs to as well their tetsujin line that has magnets and interchangeable accessories was amazing
These are the gachapon series there’s about a dozen more missing not picture here mostly the dragonar and macross kits since they’re in my Gacha machine

I went to a local con and got myself the HG Exia and my friend the HG GTO 025 MS-06C-6/R6 Zaku II Type C-6/R6 because they were less than $20 each and I've been considering getting into gunpla. Planning to build them together very casually while watching tv the next time we hang out, we've got tools for assembly and for the panel lining I got the black & grey gundam fine tip markers.
Will just black & grey fine tips be enough or do we really need more colors like the GSI Creos gundam maker pouring inking pen set / [MS105] Gundam Marker Basic Set? I didn't get an eraser with the pens but I'm guessing if I get a bigger set it'll come with one or I've seen I can just use a regular white rubber eraser if I don't get another set.
>>
>>11880440
I wonder what it's like to build with other people. It seems like a lot of fun. Maybe I should join my local Gunpla group.
Me personally I think you can just start with black/grey, heck use a pencil if you're desperate enough.

>>
>>11880551
Thanks, I was wondering if just black/grey wouldn't look good since the zaku is all shades of green and exia has a so much blue.
>>
>>11881296
Oh, did the shoulders give you grief? Lots of reports of that part breaking.
I hate the way the feet are put together, it keeps coming off once in a while.
>>
>>11881371
For Exia, on the white parts I think it would actually look weirder if you used blue, so keep some black on hand. Black would work with everything, in my opinion. Maybe go a bit lighter with the panel lining on lighter parts. Maybe with the Zaku you could use some green.
>>
>>11881378
I meant blue panel lining on the blue parts.
I saw recommendations in youtube videos like "use the olive marker for panel lining green, use orange & brown for panel lining red & yellow", so I assumed the blue markers would come off as a darker shade of blue than the plain blue plastic.
>>
>>11881408

Which part breaks? No issues so with them so far, just the c clips for the side skirts on the advanced inner frame. It does also seem like the pegs to the small movable shoulder armour pieces are ever so slightly too long, I got some small stress marks unfortunately.
>>
File: sazabi shoulder.png (179 KB, 887x268)
179 KB PNG
>>11881451
Found a shitty copy of the manual on the internet. Where H24 (x2) attaches to G26, those highlighted red pegs have a risk of breaking from twisting because they are too tight. Maybe it wasn't that tight for you. Me personally, I tried jamming it in but it was too tight so I had to pull out, and overcompensated by cutting the peg and lubing it so it's too loose now. Are you able to swing the shoulder out to the side and forward?
>>
>>11881451
Sorry I just felt like nerding out about this kit a bit more. I luckily didn't have trouble with the C clips for the side skirts, but I was a little paranoid because I heard about them breaking too. I'm paranoid of all C clips now, they break so easily and are impossible to repair (at least for me). I didn't really have trouble with the shoulder armor pieces you mentioned.
I feel like part B3 is just a lot of trouble. I had the issue where the side parts you fold in just don't stay in and the skirt spreads out. Had to put a rubber band there and it was only a temporary fix. The part where you plug the peg into G8 was also too tight, it entirely stretched out the hole and I am now constantly worried it will fail somehow, I should've shaved it down first.
>>
>>11881460
Shoulder joints are smooth, not too tight. My only problem now is the god damn trigger hand or any hand with a moving wrist joint will absolutely not insert and has left a stress mark on the palm of the hand. The B3 parts were a cunt to move, otherwise great kit
>>
>>11881457
Its fine if you push the shoulder joint assembly all the way onto the G26 peg but mine required a lot of force to get it seated flush
>>
>>11881245
I mean, yeah I have one of those joint strengthening pens and I used it on it.

man it really is such a good kit, the thuster bells are chromed and even comes with actual metal pipes for the power cables at the waist and torso

let's not even mention the double layer solution of black parts over gold plated parts for the ornament sections so you don't have to use godawful stickers or be forced to paint reliefs

if anything, the water slide decals are kinda bad because they are a mix of white with red, which will be invisible due to the red armor

instead I bought a spare sheet of the sinanju ver ka but I'm not insane enough to apply every single one of those, I'll settle with just the larger ones
>>
Let's say the hands of your giant robot are prone to detaching from the body (especially when they are holding something like a heavy sword).
>hands are made of 2 parts, part that goes into the arm is a polycap

There's a couple red pieces on the RG Amatsu Mina's head that are OBNOXIOUSLY small and don't like staying on so needed a dab of superglue. Besides that this kit is nice so far, though I hate how any white marks from cutting off plastic on the black pieces looks horrible, and one of the sprues is hard shiny black plastic. Here's the Mina's body done, next comes the fuckhueg scorpion tail shit on his back and then his million spears.
>>
>>11882783
I just pulled this kit out of my storage after a few years and all the parts keep separating and falling off, I think I need to tighten up the parts with glue or just permanently glue them together. Parts came loose on the legs and front skirt, actually even the entire head popped in half. Does this happen to all kits in general? I'm assuming the plastic shrunk over time or something. At least I didn't break anything.

New MGEX announcement in about a day
>>
>>11883569
I originally interpreted that as MGSD and immediately tuned out, glad I decided to stop and look a second time.

Judging by the previous two MGEX kits, it's going to have to have some serious special effects to be worthy of the title. And for that to be possible would limit the possibilities for the announcement, so no basic bitch Gundams like Turn A or Exia or The Gundam. So something with a huge backpack, or a bunch of funnels, that kind of thing.

The pessimist in me assumes the worst and it'll just be Mighty Strike Freedom that reuses 90% of the existing MGEX. Maybe a Perfect Strike, or the Akatsuki, gods know that any Seed kit would work perfectly. Wing Zero Custom or God would also work since we're still in the middle of the GWX anniversary celebration, though maybe not Wing Zero since it got an MG Ver. Ka not that long ago. My dream announcement would be G-Self Perfect, kill two birds with one stone, but that's extremely unlikely.
>>
>>11883569
>>11883612
I'm hoping for MGEX Exia but I don't know what they can do to the kit to make it EX worthy
>>
>>11883618
The best they could do is an integrated LED system that can shift between green and red. Maybe Repair II parts. But otherwise I don't see it happening.
>>

Do I need a specific stand for specific Gundams or are they universal?
>>
>>11883569
Lame, RX-78-2 or Zaku deserves an EX more.
>>
>>11883711
there have been a few generations. a few older kits do not have a regular peg hole for a stand and need an adapter part that's only included in the older action bases.
for kits from the past decade or so you should be fine with anything
>>
>>11883711
As the other anon said, kits older than a certain year didn't include the crotch peg holes where you could insert the Action Base into, so they had to use adapters and such to work. But in the modern day, they all have standardized holes that allows even knockoff display stands to be inserted into them. Though sometimes the fit might be tight, so if you don't buy an official Action Base you may need to take some sandpaper to the peg.
>>
Anyone here build a blokee or Trumpeter Transformer kit? Which would you say is better?

>>11883716

I mean, it does make very good financial sense to make a MGEX Mighty Strike Freedom. They get to save on development costs by reusing most of the engineering of the existing Strike Freedom, and capitalize on the movie before it fades into obscurity. Lords know that Seed fans will gobble up anything.

I mean, MGEX is just a special "every now and then" line that's otherwise dead because not everything needs a MGEX. I don't even think that much about it because the vast majority of designs out there are perfectly fine with a regular MG.

The Unicorn got one because the Ver. Ka was such a disappointment and even the fixes from the OVA version were minimal at best (outside of the shitty knees). Strike Freedom getting one was also fine since the original MG is from the pre-2006 era when most MG kits were utter dogshit, and again Seed always sells like hotcakes so it was a sound financial decision. They were going to eventually make a MG Mighty Strike Freedom anyway, and this method is probably preferable to designing a regular MG from the ground up. If it had been a regular MG, people would have bitched and whined that it was a downgrade from the MGEX Strike Freedom, and looked for ways to port the updated parts to the MGEX.

Again, there really aren't many designs that have enough flashy gimmicks to merit a MGEX. Unicorn and Strike Freedom are among the flashiest of the flashiest while also being from hugely successful entries. The only other designs that possibly fit that bill are Wing Zero Custom and 00 Raiser, and the former got a Ver. Ka very recently that's already quite excellent. G-Self Perfect is very flashy but nobody outside of die-hard Tomino fans liked the show. Most other recent designs like Barbatos Lupus Rex, Calibarn and GQuuuuuuX are far too basic in terms of their chassis.

>His head doesn't turn much because it catches on his backpack
>The weight of his backpack/arms couple with the size of his guns means he does the splits really easily
>Lots of parts pop off a little too easily (knee armour, armpit armour, shoulder pads)
>His spear slides a little too easily so you can't always have it at the position you want
>Could just be a me thing but I superglued his shoot-able spikes in place before finding out they're shoot-able because I just figured they were a little too lose, still kinda salty about it

Still looks cool as fuck when you find something that works though.

I need to somehow get hold of a constantly out of stock Destiny Gundam soon. Me and someone at work who also enjoys Gunpla are doing Secret Gundam instead of Secret Santa this Christmas. He likes more basic looking Gundams, and I think he'll like that it's the protagonist's mech in an anime series. He knows I like more complicated kits though so I'm worried he'll get me a Zeong or something and I'd feel bad about how pricey it is. I think I'll get him a stand for it too just in case he pushes the boat out.

Yeah, I've got it. Because it famously uses the MG Freedom 2.0 frame, I replaced the J4 parts with some aftermarket metal ones from ebay straight away. It's a very cool kit other than that.
>>
I want stands for my Gundams. Is there a generic stand that works for all of them? Action base 1 seems like it comes with a bunch of attachments so surely one of them will work, it's not like I have any crazy shit like the Zeong.
>>
>>11887834
I like the 2 pack generic black ones from hobby lobby. They are the gripping type but the bendy metal stand holds everything with no give, including flying poses mounted horizontally on my wall.

Yeah, somebody had to have fucked up the design, right? I had to sand the inside like crazy and then glue it on permanently and it works fine like it's supposed to.

Both.
They're both solid RGs. That said, if it's a choice between the two I'd say Sazabi, not just because it's my favorite mobile suit but because you get more accessories with it. God basically has the god fingers and beam sabers and that's it, the kit is all about articulation instead. With Sazabi you get the Beam Tomahawk, two beam sabers, a shield, the beam shotgun and the funnels. I've seen people also use the runner for the beam sabers to make funnel effect parts too if you're into the crafting side.

Whichever you get though get the waterslides for them too.

You can generally improve the look of any stress mark by rubbing it hard with your fingernail. I'm told agate 'knives' work even better.
Ultimately, the best way of hiding them is to paint.

>>
>>11888967
I've built the God (see: Burning) Gundam and it was a great build. I like how condescending he looks when posed. Once my stands arrive I'll be putting him into picrel pose except floating and with his big energy rings on. I've heard great things about the Sazabi though so if you like the look of it go with that.

If you're curious and I know you are, in the anime the God Gundam is the Gundam that followed the Shining Gundam, with the same pilot and lack of weapons. I have the Shining sat on a shelf waiting to be built, I've heard it's about as good of a build as the God. I haven't watched the anime, I just thumbed through the Wiki.

There's a random R*ddit post I found a while back where someone claimed to have built all RGs and ranked the kits, feel free to ignore it or not.

What do you guys use for sprues holders/rack/organizer? Bough one similar as pic related from Amazon, but it was a total scam, the runners barely fit in there, and where they do its all loose.
>>
>>11889391
I use the box they come in and just lie them on top of each other, going through them constantly for each step.
>>
>>11889391
I had one from PlamoKoujo I think. but I only used it once or twice. It takes up space on the desk and removing parts from the runners is such a tiny part of the build, it's just not worth it.
>>
>>11889396
That's what I do now too, I bought a rack by it was more effort than it was worth so now I just have it in the box beside me and take out the parts as needed.
>>
>>11889171
The technique I've used recently is to take an agate knife and push in on the stress mark using its point. It works tremendously well on clear parts since it can make them significantly less visible, though it's also recommended to leave a bit of nub before you do it, then sand the remainder down.

>admire my own RG God at some point
>realize that one eye is slightly too far away and a bit too far up or other
>try to gently fix the eye sticker
>it's in the right position now (probably?) but the green is a bit frayed around the edges, as I feared might happen
>not sure if I have spare stickers left
>pretty sure it was either "put stickers on a sticker to put on the head for it to look the nicest" or "put this alternative on except these are also tiny"
>not sure if that second pair still exists or if I botched that one and resorted to the remaining set of eyes
I still have yet to build the RG Shining, and I do hope to get the RG Sazabi at some point, but if the RG experience is like this every single fucking time, I'm probably going to switch to MGs. Cutting out and fitting together microscopic pieces is alright since you can at least eventually physically fit them together, but stickers? Where a piece is like 3mm tall and a sticker is 2mm? From spending like an hour building what turned out to be the God Gundam's feet, I think it's just a billion pieces that turn out into something okay, and since the MGs are inner-framed but larger than HGs and RGs, it's probably(?) going to be parts bigger than ones for the RG. So it'd be just as much of an intricate work but easier to handle and put together. Hopefully.

This is gonna sound like a shitpost but I promise you it isn't: is it safe to put gunpla in boiling water or will that melt the plastic?

I had a bunch of my stuff in storage but the place holding them caught on fire. None of them were in the fire but the place got flooded with water unsurprisingly, and the insurance guys took so long to let me go in and get stuff that a lot of my collection is covered in mold. I've got nearly a hundred of the suckers so I wanted to just batch sterilize them rather than individually disinfect every single kit, but wasn't sure if it'd be safe

I love big ugly fuckers with big heavy equipment. Particularly with the GP02, I'm disappointed that its shield didn't play a bigger role in the OVA, you never see huge physical shields actually being used in Gundam with the sole exception of Aegis/Justice Knight in Build Divers Re:Rise.

Truth be told, half the reason I bought one was because the MLRS equipment could be really good kitbashing fodder, but I also got the RG GP01 on sale from USAGS a year or so back, and now the two of them can be posed together. Hell, I'm even tempted to give the GP02 a more heroic EFSF paint job so that they match up better.
>>
>>11895779
Moreso be prepared that the hand for the shield might break, and you'd have to drill a pin where the peg is, so far mine's ok but I've yet to actually store the bazooper. Maybe a tiny stand for it would have been nice.
>OVA
I remember it being very beautiful but I don't know if I can sit through the whole thing knowing what the last bit will be like, but there's thankfully a movie even though I generally hate summary movies.
I was going to mention the HG Astray Blue Second L but realized it's a sword/gun and not a shield, the triangle shape in my memory threw me off and I haven't built it yet. I do love the shield but agree that its use is rather limited after it finishes hurling and getting away from its war crime, and for the MLRS/beam bazooka version, there's no nuclear blast radius and so the shield is just a carrier for half the bazooka? Which gets fucked if the shield gets shot through? It's a very grand shield that really should be more useful than it is. I guess we can headcanon that it has a shitton of anti-beam coating, the same way I'm going to headcanon that the bazooka can still be armed with a tactical (or strategic) nuke if required.
>kitbashing fodder
Yeah, I wonder what kits you can just pluck the MLRS pods on, although I assume you'd have to mod most kits for that.
>RG GP01
Do let me know how it is, I don't know whether any GP01s or GP03 would be worth it for me, considering what I said about the OVA. But there was nothing wrong while the 01 and 02 were fighting, and it'd be nice if the GP02 could have its siblings.

RG Force Impulse done! Decals might happen on a later date, but I'm very happy with how good it looks on a stand. The kit feels very flimsy compared to the others I've built, with the shoulders especially being rather floppy although it makes positioning them much easier. Also the head literally does not clip on, it's just sat loosely on the neck. Oh and the top and bottom halves of the Gundam don't snap together either, the top is just sat loosely on top of the bottom half. Doesn't matter once it's on a stand and posed but still.

>removing parts from the runners is such a tiny part of the build, it's just not worth it.
how so? you have to do it on every single step.
>>
>>11897368
The Perfect Strike uses the same internal frame as the regular Strike, the only real changes Bandai made were to improve the detailing to the armor so that it looks nicer. I think some of the internal parts were also colored silver as well, but that's about it.

The unfortunate truth is that the PG Perfect Strike is just a 2004 kit that they made a weapons pack for and sold as a single package. It's just that they had barely enough of a conscience to marginally improve the Strike itself so that it isn't the exact same as the old PG kit. Incidentally, the upcoming MGEX Mighty Strike Freedom at least attempts to make changes to the internal frame somewhat so that you're not just re-buying the old MGEX Strike Freedom, but there's only a few pictures of it so we don't know the complete extent of it.

I know what it is and that's what bugs me. I like the added surface detail to the Perfect kit and that is even has the extra parts for the old head (old looks better imo). I've gone through at least 5 picture reviews and none of them have been able to do a proper kneel like the original, not even Dalong himself could get the kneel down on the Perfect kit as per my photo. if I could find the original PG in stock for none rape prices, i'd get it.

You can't add missing surface detail with paint.
If you want "the ivory look" you can paint an HG ivory color and dunk it in brown wash, but it will never look like your pic related. You can do the same with plamax kit and it will look more like your pic related, but it will be almost half the size, the wings will look different etc etc.
