I'd say this bodes well for Squatt eventually being released. Playmates said they had no plans to release him in 2026, specifically noting that it didn't mean he wouldn't ever be released. With the line doing well enough to continue on for a third year, and to even expand into collector territory, I have to imagine Squatt can see the light of day somehow.

What's insane is that it's hit 80% of it's goal in just a few days despite how bad it is. I don't understand why it's so horrible when the core Dinozords are all pretty solid. You'd think being a Kickstarter would allow Dragonzord to be better than the retail toys, but it's not even a full 10" tall, which is crazy considering the Reignition T-Rex is 10.5". Something is seriously wrong when the Dragonzord is shorter than the T-Rex.
>>

I was thinking the same thing. Anyone here have that Dragonzord and the Reignition Megazord? Curious how they'd scale together since Reignition Dragonzord is such a Dragonlet.

>>11880926
>that screw hole on the face is fucking inexcusable
The FAQ says it'll be covered by a plug, but you'd think they'd have it covered in the photography that's trying to sell the product to people. They could have also simply not photographed it from the side showing the screw hole.
>>
>>11880931

>The FAQ says it'll be covered by a plug,

They're redoing the whole thing, ideally it just won't have the hole at all.
>>
You'd also think they'd properly transform their toys in the photography that's trying to sell it to people. Playmates continually comes across as a brand new toy company who is learning the ropes despite making action figures for 40 years now. The things they do are rookie mistakes, and they keep making them again and again, never learning. One example is how people hate their fucking hip joints, and yet they refuse to adapt and improve them. They are launching a collector line with those horrible hip joints, which ruins the entire line from the jump. It's gross incompetence on a level I've never seen from another toy company.
>>
>>11880933
>They're redoing the whole thing
Highly doubt that. This looks like a molded plastic sample. not a 3D print. If molds have been made there's only so much that can be done in terms of changes.

i want to shit on playmates for making absurdly off model toys, but it's hasbro that should have standards for them to follow, i guess neither of them really care, at least the zords are big and relatively cheap, I remember scrounging together $20 as a kid to get the red dragon and he's the same price in this line and almost all the same functions
>>

The very ‘first’ model/paint master arrived in our US office late last week (in time for sales shows going on in Los Angeles right now). Improvements are needed, some details are missing. We have received a first round of comments from Hasbro, and now we have yours. A new model is being developed soon. This is always part of the year-plus process of making collectible product.
>A new model is being developed soon.

Would be hilarious if its Hasbro that demanded the changes.

>>
>>11880942
Hasbro certainly deserves a degree of blame as these things all require licensor approval, but Playmates shouldn't be making such bad products in the first place that would require Hasbro stepping in and telling them they need to do better. Like I said, Playmates isn't a new toy company making rookie mistakes, they've been doing this shit for four decades.

There's nothing wrong with tailoring the line to kids, but that's not an excuse to make bad products. Mattel was putting more care and effort into pre-school MMPR toys than Playmates is here, and Imaginext Power Rangers was just a drop in the bucket for Mattel. Playmates has lost their biggest cashcow TMNT, and Power Rangers is their lifeline. They should be treating it as such and actually trying to make good products. This Dragonzord will fund because people are desperate for it, but it deserves to fail. It truly is the worst Dragonzord toy ever made. It doesn't even have size going in it's favor like Playmates' Dinozords. I see zero redeeming attributes with this thing.

Now a very fair affordable option “too cheap, fuckin playmates can’t do anything” Maybe the fans just don’t deserve shit honestly.

The Super Megaforce toyline was pretty damn good. Insane character selection for a one-year line, and those figures were fun to play with because their articulation actually worked unlike Playmates' Reignition Rangers.

Both the Automorphin and standard Playmates Rangers have horrible hip joints, and just bad overall range of motion. They are honestly some of the worst figures I've ever handled in terms of poseability. They have joints in the right places so you'd think they should be able to pose well, but they're so poorly engineered that they're horribly unfun to articulate.

Just because people can afford something doesn't negate their ability to feel something is overpriced for what it is. Playmates' Tyrannosaurus Dinozord is a $20 toy which both looks better and is larger than this Dragonzord. What about this Dragonzord warrants a 150% price hike over the Tyrannosaurus?

>Its fine, completely acceptable once it has the battlemode face
Disagree, the thing can't even transform the arms correctly, something my old DX toy can totally do. They changed that for a rocket punch gimmick because they want this toy to be more appealing to kids, but that gets invalidated by it being a kickstarter. Also it looks terrible even when compared to the dinozords of the very same line. It looks cheap, small, and has the worst proportions of any Dragonzord ever released.
I'm just glad I'm not a PR collector and I'm happy with my old DX and the SoC, but still hurts seeing robot designs from my childhood getting this treatment.

And the sad thing is that it's totally going to be funded. Expect more cheap crap from playmates in the future, that's what having no standards gets you.

What I don't understand is why Dragonzord is so much worse compared to the others. The Dinozords and combined Megazord look fine. The Tigerzord is unfortunately undersized, but it looks very good on it's own, taking a lot of inspiration from the Legacy. The Thunder Megazord has always been a difficult design and the Playmates version isn't the best execution of it, but it's serviceable for what it is. Dragonzord looks like it was made by a completely different team of people who had no idea what they were doing. So many WTF choices.

Pretty much this. Every other store always tries to find ways to get rid of toys or make it so it's only baby slop on the shelves. We are not in a toy friendly world anymore.
>>
>>11881211
Because walmart has a planogram for their shelves and the Dragonzord lost out to another competitor in the same price point because there item fit the shelving better. This is why the zords were shrunk down for S2 because white tiger is the perfect price and size that walmart wants.
>>
>>11880897
>>11880893
>>11880890
They got paid because they sold the toys to stores. The problem is they didn't sell at stores, which limits future profitability for the line. Which is why some stuff got canceled. But right now they are flush from early wave cash. The problem is...where do they go after?

The issue with this Dragonzord is the same one that fucked the Legacy Dragonzord. The company clearly didn't think ahead or believe a Dragonzord was going to happen. Now that they have to make one, they're realizing how hard it is to cut corners on it but unlike the Legacy one, they don't have a big distributor like TRU or Amazon to eat the price of R&D. No amount of fans are going to pay the actual price to get something more than halfway decent.

>>11881410
I don't think there was a canceled Lauren, just people at the time assuming the leak of a second Samurai Red would be her. It does aggravate me too though that they went with a second Jayden instead of her. Especially considering Lauren never had a figure released in the US during Samurai, so it would have been Bandai's chance to right that wrong. Unfortunately they were too afraid to have a single girl among the 20 male Red Rangers.

Dino Thunder Black I do remember in a leak though, and I was super disappointed when it didn't come to pass. Really annoys me having every other Tommy in that scale and style, even the movie suit, but not Dino Thunder. If Bandai were smart they would have included Dino Thunder Black in the Super Megaforce line in place of MMPR White, which was a redundant figure thanks to the better painted Legacy version.

Weirdly, this might be one of the few times when listening to complaints is necessary. Since this is not really a kids toy this time around, no kids know what the fuck 35 year old Dragonzord is or care. This thing is pretty much only going to be sought after by collectors and long time fans, basically the kinds of people that will take time out of their day to bitch and moan about the accuracy of hands.

The genuine target for this product actually are the nit-picky fucks that demands ridiculous accuracy.
>>
>>11881625
>>11881682
This is why I wonder why multiple companies still bother making new merchandise for the oldest incarnation of Power Rangers from 33 years ago. Then try to pretend they are marketing it to kids.

Pretty much the entire toy aisles in Walmart and Target consist of nostalgia driven shit for guys who bought stuff in the late 80s-early 90s. MOTU somewhat reissues, TMNT reissues, Power Rangers reissues, just a few years ago they had Ghostbusters stuff. Not really much for kids, or anything most kids have heard of at all. It's just collector and scalper bait.
>>
>>11881704
Cause the designs are still cool. Same reason they marketed Star Wars movies from the 70s to kids in the 90s, and even now.
The irony is a lot of 2000s series dated themselves more by choosing to make morphers cell phones or basing them offf fads or tech from their era. The Dinozords are timeless and young kids will always love Dinos. The morpher looks like its own thing, not tech of its era

>listen here bucko. Power rangers was a kick ass brand back in the day that'd definitely be the talk of the town any which way of the week, and the fact that you do not like it anymore just proves you have become a boring, soulless plebeian. You probably grew up, got a dull job, and decided that you were too sophisticated for giant robots and colorful heroes. By turning your back on the morphing grid, you have traded pure joy for a miserable life of pretending to be an adult. Your lack of appreciation for this legendary show means you have completely lost your inner child and your sense of fun.Growing out of Power Rangers is the ultimate sign of a basic, unrefined mind that completely misunderstands great entertainment. You think you are fancy now because you watch serious movies or read heavy books, but you are just hiding the fact that you lack imagination. It takes a true person of culture to appreciate the genius of combining high-energy martial arts with giant mechanical dinosaurs. Instead, you choose to be part of the ordinary crowd, blending into the background like a mindless putty monster while the real heroes save the day.Your rejection of the franchise shows that you have forgotten what it means to feel excitement. You used to understand the thrill of running around the backyard and pretending to save the world with your friends. Now, you sit there looking down your nose at a multi-billion-dollar global phenomenon that shaped an entire generation of pop culture. You have abandoned the lessons of teamwork, courage, and awesome rock-and-roll guitar solos just to fit into a world of boring grown-ups who do not know how to have a good time.

Why do you guys keep forgetting they’re airing MMPR on YouTube? Thats how kids will know what it is. Must be working too, since Playmates says the role play stuff is selling best.

>children care about mmpr you heckin chuddies

prove it

children only know about mmpr because of memes and references, they haven't and do not care about watching old media and see it as boomer slop

because power ranger fags have brain damage and have to CONSOME and not ask questions, pretty much every nerd hobby like RLM pointed out years ago
>>

Why? You'd just stick your fingers in your ears and go "La la la la"
>>
>>11881766
>Power rangers is almost entirely millennial parents pushing their own nostalgia onto their children. Today's kids do not naturally search for or become obsessed with 30-year-old live-action shows on their own. When you look under the hood of how kids actually interact with MMPR today, the reality splits into a few clear truths: It is a "Parent-Driven" HobbyThe Gatekeepers: If a child today is wearing a classic MMPR shirt or playing with a 1993 Megazord, it is almost always because their parent bought it for them.Lack of Awareness: Teachers and camp counsellors frequently note that the average school-aged child today has no idea what Power Rangers is unless their mum or dad is a dedicated fan.The Nostalgia Market: Toy companies like Playmates and Hasbro heavily focus their classic MMPR merchandise on adult collectors with disposable income, not modern children. Kids Like the Formula, Not the Specific EraMalleable Audiences: Young children are easily entertained. If a parent sits a 6-year-old down to watch MMPR, the child will often genuinely enjoy it because kids naturally love superheroes, monsters, and giant robots. No Staying Power: While a child might have fun watching an episode with a parent, they rarely form a deep, independent obsession with it. Once the TV turns off, they usually go right back to modern phenomena like Bluey, TikTok, or YouTube gaming channels.

Because the boat is missed every time, people missed out on Legacy, new people missed out on SOC and then people probably deliberately missed out on ZAP because the deco and plastic was weird. Now its pretty much this is last big chance for 10 years to get a DZ at retail price and not 200+ the other half is your Dinozords are incomplete if you have the Re-ignition zords now. That and in the mainstay of things for collectors and adults with money. $50 dollars is nothing in toy buying. Thats what two marvel legends?
>>

Also, compared to Legacy the stability and sturdiness of Reignition is lightyears ahead.

Still kills me that the SoCs arms are so fragile. I actually broke mine, was pretty devastated by it tbqh. However, I found out it was a common issue and discovered someone made replacement parts and I was able to repair mine. Later ended up finding 3Dprint files for the replacement parts. I have my own printer so now I can just make my own parts if the other arm breaks or something.

They won't have the new model to show off for a few more weeks.

If they used the original toy as a reference it wouldn't be so much worse than the original toy in every possible way.

The legs and the tail being shaped the way they are implies that the reference they used was the old DX toy. By shaped I mean the stiff and straight legs and the stubby tail.

Probably by a completely different team that had no idea what they were doing except being told: "do a cheaper-looking version of this reference"

>>

the creator has special instructions for resin printing it, mostly around thickening up joint areas.
Can you resin print in color yet? A bunch of people have hand painted these after print and they look super great with just that having been done, the paint fills in a lot of the print lines too.
>>
>>11882257
Do you mean multicolour resin printing? I don't think that's possible at all given how resin printing works.
>>
>>11882260
yeah that's effort then....

You'd just print the different coloured parts separately and then assemble it like gunpla.
>>
>>11882260
>>11882264
actually no I don't,. each of those 3d printed pieces is just tagged to one color of filament. It doesn't print in different colors per piece.

>>11882270
damn i was 7 seconds too late in my realization of what you meant.
I suppose it is the better option to just go full resin out the gate then
>>
>>11882271
You could do it in FDM as multicolour, it'll just have a lot of layer lines that you'll cover up with paint or filler. I imagine given the little bits of detail present, you'd want to go with resin just to preserve that.

I got the deal that was digital, I only have PDFs. I would have preferred physical, but when I ordered it from Fanhome it wasn't an option at the time. >>
>>11882703
A year and a half ago everyone in these threads were using this exact logic to keep buying playmates MMPR shit in hopes that they will release something else later on. When people were sick of the constant re-releasing of MMPR over alllllll the other incarnations of Power Rangers.

>>11883693
And now we're getting the Zeo Rangers.

>>
>>11881625
>I guess we still have the comics...
Ehhhhh it's kind of a coin toss if they get renewed at this point
I wouldn't be surprised if the current strategy is to keep it long enough to release compact volumes of the original run and then pull the plug when they have enough/sell as many as they can
The current new canon doesn't feel like it has legs to last (especially given the middling reception both in writing and art) and Unlimited seems to be geared toward giving closure to where the original canon left off as well as reconciling it with the show
>>
>>11884336
People seem to like Unlimited. Middle Age Rangers is just dull, and the Green Ranger comic...uh...exists.

What I really want is for Reignition to make it to Zeo. If they do, a King Mondo figure is a very real possibility as I imagine the first wave would be him and a Cog. Unless Playmates ramps up the villain production I don't expect to get more than 4 per year, so Gasket and Archerina would be my preferred choices for wave 2. I'd love to get Machina, Sprocket, and Klank/Orbis, but they never actually fought the Rangers, so Gasket and Archerina make more sense to me for action figures if I can only have 4.

Dragonzord is over 375k to it's 400k goal with 24 days to go, so funding seems inevitable. I feel like with the success of it they'll do Titanus as a Kickstarter next year, which will also tie in with the season 3 toys. I just wish Kickstarters could be used to give us more interesting never ever products. There's so much untapped potential for MMPR, yet these companies just keep giving us the same stuff again and again.
>>
>>11884439
Because it’s the stuff that sells.
Titanus is definitely a good candidate for a future kickstarter campaign.

How do they know other shit won't sell if it's never been attempted? The original line, MMPR2010, Legacy, Imaginext, Lightning, Super7, Reignition. Out of all those lines, only Imaginext ever attempted to make a Cyclopsis toy, which didn't get released because Hasbro took over the license. It also would have only been a 2.5" figure. Shit feels like the most no-brainer thing to get a toy, yet no one ever does it!
>>

Simple: They aren’t confident that it’d sell.

Yeah, and that's wrong because the face was never supposed to be inside the mouth. But if the other choice was not even having the face, this is a huge improvement.
It's a good strategy, show absolute shit first so the extremely mediocre final product seems perfect in comparison, kek.

The face was an odd miss by Bandai for an otherwise great rendition of the Zord. It's my favorite Dragonzord toy in terms of aesthetics, though sadly the functionality of the transformations was ruined by the diecast. Wish Power Rangers had a 3P community making Zord improvements like Transformers gets, because a proper mechanism for the face could be so easily implemented by someone who knows what they're doing, and plastic replacement parts would make the combinations so much better.
>>
>>11885473
>. Wish Power Rangers had a 3P community
it'll never happen because theres no market for it and banda is a lot more malicious than hasbro/takara if you ever paid attention to bootlegging campaigns to stop 3P

I still blame Disney, Hasbro, and Star Wars TLJ for the death of Toys'R'Us.
>>
>>11885488
We're VERY close to that now.
>>
>>11885495
You're still uninformed about what happened. After Bain Capital, KKR, and Vornado Realty Trust bought the company for $6.6 billion in 2005, Toys R Us ended up with about $5 billion in debt. They had to pay around $400 million in interest each year, which left them with little money to make needed improvements. The company made $11.5 billion in sales in 2016, but its huge debt made it impossible to stay competitive or adapt to market changes.
>>
>>11885575

That and Amazon. And Walmart.
