Gone Too Soon: TrendmastersGodzilla, Tarzan/John Carter, War Planets, all their micro stuff for all of them, they had such a great run in the mid to late 90s and then ate it. Current Mass Market toy company: MattelWhile certainly not perfect, they are putting out affordable and AVAILABLE toys. From having stocked shelves to being more or less largely available online, their work on MotU and Jurassic coming up on a decade strong are both incredible. Seeing the kind of shit other massive companies are doing with their lines between bad decisions, complete lack of playability, and making all sorts of stuff that's very annoying or downright impossible to get, it's great to have largely reliable and toyetic toys actually available "wherever toys are sold."Current indie toy company: Onell Design GlyosThese guys just put out fun, sturdy, strong value toys. Every order gets free stuff thrown in for almost 20 years. Their roster of small simple aliens and robots continues to expand, they lend out their building system to dozens of other independent toymakers so there's really a ton of variety, scale, and subject available at this point. Well worth checking out if you haven't at this point, more fun in hand than in pictures.

Their Mythic Legions line has ultimately dominated my collection for the past ten years as even if I'm not buying their figures, I'm buying figures that can work well or compliment them. Their Figura Obscura line is also fantastic, dropping some off the wall bangers like the Headless Horseman set, the Gods of Egypt and their amazing Frankenstein's Monster release. And of course there's that damn Dragon. People thought they were crazy to suggest making a four foot tall articulated Dragon, and then they go and do it and the damn thing will actually be in my house by the start of next year. I don't even have room for that thing, it's like it's not even a real thing because it's so absurd a concept. But it's real and they'll probably do more like it in the coming years. As far as I'm concerned, they are single handily responsible for the massive fantasy figure resurgence we're seeing today, as multiple companies are dropping their versions of sword and sorcery, knights and monsters and adventurer lines of figures. It's a crying shame Hasbro fumbled the ball so hard with their D&D line, as they could've jumped into the ring and carved out a nice niche for with an entire series of iconic monsters from the franchise. The few they put out were pretty sweet, and they make some of the best 1:12 animal companions in their Classified line, which could have easily crossed into being releases for a D&D line of some type as well. Sadly most of the actual characters in those releases were utter dog shit, with the animated line having horrendous QC and the movie line just being generic junk. But if they went and dropped more figures like Drizzt, even if they were just generic "Fantasy Class" figures, I think they could've created an actually fantastic line.

Their insects also look rad, but they rely too much on gunmetal. But I'm waiting for their Locust and Red Dragon, can't wait to have them on my desk.

They were great back in the day and they're still producing great toys today. In past years, I've said that Mezco was my favorite company, but they haven't been releasing much lately. They still release some great products, but they've been slacking.pic is something i regret not getting but i wonder if it even came out.

I fucking love Jakks Pacific solely because I believe they've done Mario justice for the most part. They're not without flaws such as not quite accurate scaling (Peach isn't taller than Luigi, some of the Koopalings not being big/small enough, etc.) and their downright abysmal distribution like the constant reissuing of Mario, refusing to make reprints of Wario and Waluigi, and still no Roy and Morton but aside from my criticisms, they're mostly high-quality figures with faithful designs and reasonable prices.Another thing that makes collecting from them so much fun is that you have so many options. Do you like the Deluxe Donkey Kong for its great scaling and beefiness or do you prefer the smaller WoN version that's more accurate? Do you like the mainline design 6" WoN Bowser, the 6" Galaxy movie Bowser with the most articulation out of all of them, or the 7" movie Bowser with less articulation but with steam breath? Are you trying to collect every Mario character? Do you want to replicate a certain game's roster? Or are you just collecting your favorites? Most people's collections rarely look the same and that's what makes the line so fun to research and collect from.Not as into Sonic as I am Mario but the figures they've made for the former are still pretty cool too.
