What the other anon said. It's the difference of using something that is half a step up from fucking arts and crafts class paint vs not actually fighting against your paints.
For brush get Vallejo or AK, for airbrush Tamiya or Mr. Color. There are other options, but these are most widely available. I refuse to suggest anyone use Citadel because even if they are pretty good quality, they cost like 2-3x the price which is beyond gay.

I have two glass cabinets and a couple of floating shelves that my models go on when completed. I rotate them out into the plastic boxes of despair as they get superceded by better, later builds. Thought about whether to order one of Miniart's full-interior T-55's, either with African Union or civil-war Afghanistan markings. Or Trumpeter's T-62M, again in 1989-2001 Afghan markings. Or an Indian T-90, with one of the hideously vivid camouflage schemes.

But I figured a full-interior kit I would be building for like three years, so I'm just gonna start the Takom Type-69 I have in my stash.

Also notice that when I first suggested this GB, I deliberately said "turd-world, not "third-world". So in my personal interpretation (which means you're free to ignore it), Vietnam, North-Korea, or Afghanistan, Congo, Angola, Ethiopia, Somalia during their communist periods would count, despite most of these being deeply Soviet-aligned. Because they're doodoo-feces countries. Also possibly post-soviet Central-Asian countries.

But perhaps Austria, Sweden, Finland, Singapore, Switzerland not so much, because despite these countries being officially non-aligned, they were pretty wealthy. I'd say South-Africa and Rhodesia are on the fence, since while they were wealthy (by African standards), white-ruled, and fervently anti-communist, their shenanigans led them to become international pariahs.

Maybe the criteria should be whether the country has drinkable tap-water.

ok key lessons for myself after working a bit on 3rd model:
1. shaking hands means you paint stowage/machineguns etc before mounting
2. make sure everything is painted before gloss varnish, don't rush
3. make sure to wash the model thoroughly before priming to remove hand grease you fucking imbecile
4. learn the hairspray technique next, you can't do good sponge chips if your life depended on it
5. learn how to blend and paint brush ffs

In my experience, just FYI, the only totally reliable spray can clear coats are the ones made for plastics and or model kits specifically. I've also had that pooling/peeling/ruined issue with similar automotive products. I guess they must work if you also used proper automotive paints under but who the fuck knows

Have you guys figured out what you're building for turdworld? I now kinda realize that compared to aviation, armorfags are simultaneously blessed and fucked.

See, most Sub-Saharan militaries do not have a standardized camouflage pattern for their tanks, nor do they even use national insignia most of the time. An African T-55 could be standard Russian-green, or slathered with an improvised pattern, and its operator can be anyone from Ivory-Coast to Somalia, from Chad to Namibia.

So simultaneously I'm not constrained by accuracy, while being absolutely unable to come up with a scheme that's a proper example of any given country. So what I'm gonna do is just order any late Miniart T-55, paint it in either of these two camos in the pic, add African Union markings, and decide at the very end whether our imagination will make this an Ethiopian tank, an Ugandan tank, or whatever the fuck.

If you change your mind and do care, you might have a better shot at their T-55's. They have some Soviet-production T-55's that came factory without an AA-cupola, so (at least for a while) didn't get the KPV conversion.

When adding a new kit, your options are new tool, or a series of rebox options. I think a selection is required too, since that's how the kit history tree is built. So it's a bit of a misnomer, but it's the only way right now.

I really like this kit so far, it has PE included but it actually fits really well and I haven't struggled with any of it yet (until I get to the antenna and pitot probably). Everything fit together pretty well, and I didn't have too much body work to do before I could paint. The cockpit is pretty sparse, and references on this Q-5 seem to be pretty sparse, at least for any western sources I know of.

I'll take a look. I've had this Tamia Ki-61 in my stash for a couple years now and I'm thinking its time to build it. A neat thing about this kit is that it comes with an extra fuselage half molded in clear plastic, so I was thinking it would be really cool to try and make it as detailed as possible in the parts of the interior you don't usually see like behind the cockpit and in the engine bay.

I figure since its a japanese plane theres probably not going to be anything of much value to me as far as detailed photos or diagrams though

Kawasaki restored a Ki-61 II a few years ago, they keep it unpainted so it's excellent reference for panels (altho there are differences between a I and II).
Hien is a famous fighter, there are many recreations of the cockpit, PE instructions will be more precise with instrument and leverhead colours than Tamiya/Hasegawa instructions.
Since ita a Kawasaki aircraft it has a unique orange-tan interior paint, at least for the cockpit area.

Unfortunate. Anyway, I went and snagged some really good deals on some (shit) kits. $50 for the three, will be returning. Honestly not too bad. I will not be building the Krugozor, I bought it merely as a novelty, I found it buried under a stack of kits and talked him into what I thought was fair ($10). I will share the contents if you folks want. Also I met a guy I know from /m/ and convinced him to get his first kit (a Tsukuda something or other from the 1980s, it was one of the Nausicaa kits).
All in all, day one was fun, day two is when things really start to happen, though.

The show has ended, got 2nd place with the crappy semovente, I'm kind of disappointed that the boomers didn't like the Tesla tank, but it got 2 awards in 2 other shows

Busy day. The tail was hard to align with the stripes but it's looking good enough for me. Also got the underside painted minus the landing gear (which needs repair, fuck kit makers that force you to build it extended while painting)

Cricut. First time doing a full camo with it and it has some drawbacks but it is really nice for this kind of livery. >>11915808 the mask I cut is here, I painted the whole thing dark grey and put the stripes where they were meant to go and then painted the rest of the scheme on top

what is your guys' go to method for re creating small panel details like the small circle near the cockpit, when they're inevitably going to be decimated by sanding?
I bought some of those metal shape stencils from eduard but I have never had a good time with them, especially on a curved surface

It's a shame she has so little flak, 4 big guns is all she has. Her as AV-3 seems more interesting than CV-1, the yellow flying boats will look good and as far as I know she's the only seaplane tender in 1:350
