>alt mode clearly patterened after classics bumblebee
Getting overpriced, mediocre toonershit toys that are trying to copy the aesthetic of superior golden-era CHUG toys (which sold for 1/3rd the price) is fucking hilarious.
>>
>>11904173
Holding out hope that Bug Bite is recolored from this, it'd go hard.
>>

If that's what you need to tell yourself anon, by all means keep enjoying your twenty year old toys.

i would genuinely think about it if it combined, which it does not.

Go look at the achieves the threads stop bumping or 404 the moment people start taking apart what's wrong with the short. Also a lot of the old forums are having these defenders roll i with accounts that there last post before this new release was 5+ years ago.

The masses are not loving it any more than they hate it but if these "shills" or whatever you want to call them don't back off they are going to just see everyone turn on this because the more light you put on this short, the worse the reception gets.

He's somewhat hollow for his jail alt to be a thing, and his face changing gimmick, charming as it is, isn't the best way to rotate the faces around as just holding the tab, and moving it manually. These increasing prices make it hard to recommend to anyone unless you just really like Quintissons and/or Judge.
>>
>>11904173
That thing is going to glut Ollie's and other discount markets.

>>11904266
The "Apology Tour" was not the best thing to run with as a market gimmick with that short. It almost certainly would sour people to it even without Peter's death. You are making the theme that you shouldn't have killed Prime to make a short that is demanding he quit trying and go away. Not the best message to go with that.
>>
>>11904260
It's way more likely that those old accounts are just old guys who came back because of the movie release and have no interest in any new media for the most part. There's not enough money in the world to organize a bunch of random online accounts and pay them to advertise a 12 minute short attached to a rerelease. The world isn't that dramatic.
>>
>>11904173

>You are making the theme that you shouldn't have killed Prime to make a short that is demanding he quit trying and go away. Not the best message to go with that.
I think a lot of people are reading way too much into it. The idea I took was more that he had to accept his death for the time being, he would get his chance to fight and die again. For the moment he just needed to be present to be in the Matrix when Rodimus opens it, which is why he talks about lighting our darkest hour at the end.
The only really confusing thing is having dream sequence Megatron take the Matrix as if it's mean to have any consequence. It shouldn't, both because it's just a vision and because decepticons can't use the Matrix.

Apology Tour was a fine marketing gimmick, I enjoyed it. They’re talking directly to the now-grown kids who cried when Prime died in 1986. They know their audience. It’s a joke. The short was open to interpretation, I didn’t see it as a call for him to give up.

>I thought he was saying stop fighting FOR A MOMENT because they will need you later, but if you insist on coming back to life right now, things will go all sideways.
that's all there is to it.
Everyone else is overthinking it.
Optimus needed to die for now so the Matrix goes to Hot Rod and he goes through the whole journey that would allow them to enter Unicron by surprise and take him down. Optimus needs to be within the Matrix for it to be at full power and let Rodimus know what to do. If Optimus kept fighting Megatron they'd be taken by surprise by Unicron and not be prepared to fight back.

Grabbed 2 more Starscreams just because I could. He’s already sold out again.
>>
What you're all ignoring is that the short is bad because in the movie Optimus does not show any abnormal resistance to his death, he just passes the Matrix on to Magnus and tells him he has faith in him. The short is rewriting the character from the movie it is meant to accompany.

It's not people are overthinking so much as the story is so piss poorly told. If that was all the short was about, what was the point of the Evil Bumble? Or even Bumblebee at all? Why even have those scenes? Why did Prime get a human hand in the Unicron vision? Why did Prime need to drop a already passed on Matrix into lava? Why have a post credit scene where Megs finds it and takes it? Why have vision of Megs with said Matrix?

You are just looking at one tiny part and saying "because this makes sense the whole thing is fine"

Honestly I think it's just the usual Hasbro meddling and it'll likely come out as such, this is no different than how disjointed the Transformers Prime series got over the creation team fighting with the writers, or even how sideways season 3 of Beast Wars went when Hasbro just wouldn't tell the team what toys they did and didn't want included which lead to the BW team to opt out of being involved in Beast Machines. Like the 86 movie, Hasbro is their own worse enemy insisting on things that just hurt them more than help them.

And we never will again. It actually wouldn't surprise me if Transformers had another big resurgence, even if not on the level of 2006-2011, but the toy industry gets less and less relevant every year.

This era of greebling was so bad. The sculpts were really flat and blocky feeling and made them look stiff. I like greeblng but it feels like any tact they had in the UT and Classics days for it just isn't here. I stand by Classics starscream being one of the most overrated molds ever, butt here's some balance in the sculpt's details that's missing in ER.
I don't love how smooth most of the SS sculpts are either necessarily. Grimlock is close to my ideal.
>>
>>11904896
I can't disagree that the greebling was done more tastefully then. I don't really mind the greebles on the ER seeker...except for on the waist flap, where they just went overboard. It's worse on Thundercracker and Skywarp because at least Starscream's red helps to kind of camouflage it.

NTA but one thing I think a lot of people miss is that the ER proportions are a bit closer to the coronation scene, where they're suddenly drawn in more exaggerated anime like proportions. So it's completely subjective, but if you like that look, the ER mold is your guy.

the buyer's market is on your side considering how many people are jumping to new, toon accurate versions for Legends, MP, and generations now. You're absolutely not the only one.
>>
>>11904916
Nope. I think greebling is trash and vastly prefer the smooth, clean look of the new toys we're getting. The whole appeal of the G1 designs to me is how elegantly simple they are and all the greeble does is clutter them up.

NTA but I worked in a plane museum for a few years and jets have a LOT of details all over them. The top side of the ER Seeker's jet mode is pretty realistic for the amount of panels, seams and general greebling. The panel lines are obviously more pronounced on the toy because if they were properly to-scale they'd be way too subtle and would look "wrong".
I will say the robot-exclusive bits are definitely a bit overly greebly but the SS86 went way too far the other way. IMO the SS86 Ironhide, Prime and Megatron got the detail ratio just right.
>>
>>11904914
Not true at all. The ER one looks stiff and boxy, the complete opposite of stylized "Obari style" anime robots. There's way more to that art style than just how broad the shoulders are.

>>
>>11904919

There's definitely a balance. One thing I wish was used more is that the robot mode greebling should be distinguishable from the vehicle mode stuff. that's rarely seen these days which is unfortunate, especially since so much of Starscream's robot mode is exclusively robot mode only parts but the surface of the ER jet mode looks the same.
My ideal for Transformers tends to be a lot of the 2000's era G1 art. Animation influenced with more dynamic proportions, some details from the toy and some added for more detail.
>>
>>11904958
Mine arrives today so if yours does you can buy mine off of ebay.
>>
>>11904948
>I don't see how it looks "boxy" but whatever you say anon
The torso is a massive brick, it just looks like a square slab with no dynamism whatsoever. Even the classics accentuated the waist way better, and had an actual crotch instead of the thin red belt the ER has. The proportions and shapes of the body on that mold are just out of whack, and covering all of that with way too many greebles makes it look even worse.

NTA but the problem is that the ER seeker is too full of straight, parallel lines. The movie coronation Starscream scene has lots of curves and tapered/thickening areas to him while a lo of the ER mold is straight lines up and down. That's what makes it feel boxy to people.
Like look at the curve in the chest here.

That's because one is in an animation cell from a high budget animation and one is a toy. The same appearance and design, conveyed through the two different mediums, will not have 1:1 identical appearance.
But please, point out an example of a Starscream/seeker figure that does have this elusive "flow to the design", and PLEASE, don't say 86.

>sees an alt future where Bumblebee grows disillusioned and turns evil
>sees an alt future where Unicron destroys Earth
>fights Megatron in a vision, who tells Bumblebee that Optimus won't kill him because deep down he loves the fight
Optimus Prime is always meant to fight for freedom and die, and the conflict always spirals on anyway after he sacrifices himself in every single universe. The only way to end the war is to stop fighting, but Optimus doesn't want to do that because it feels like turning his back on those he wants to protect. So he has to find the strength to be gentle, to stop Megatron without acting in a way that will just perpetuate the conflict.

>if he comes back prematurely, Rodimus doesn't kill Unicron and Earth gets destroyed
>if he actually just beats Megatron to death, he becomes a martyr and the war rages on
I took it as Optimus being so quick to get back into the fight or to die to protect those around him that he doesn't realize his reactions keep the momentum of the conflict going. Every strike against the Decepticons invites retaliation, even if it's justified. He can't commit to violence, but then refuse to kill every last Decepticon when given the opportunity. If he's not willing to wipe them out, then he needs to find another way, or else the cycle of war will go unbroken.

That's just my read though, it definitely came off like a stealth pilot or Part 1 (that retroactively became a swan song for Peter Cullen).

Exactly. The war needs a new leader, for now. Someday he will be back, and he will enter us into the Pax Cybertronia, and while there will still be a few conflicts here and there, there will be at least 400 years of peace before Beast Wars.

also yeah it's nice he got to have a goodbye like this. couldn't have planned it better... I mean, he knew he was dying, right? so.. kinda brings to mind Kevin's last role in that Crisis movie.

Most Studio series figures are mediocre to average at best. People's perceptions of them are blinded because they appeal to collectors who again, only care about filling their shelves.

Yeah it's lame, but considering the powermaster gimmick requires a figure to actually have a slot for an engine to insert into, I know Hasbro wouldn't bother.

The problem is that the "existing mold" is bad to begin with. This new toy is mogged by BOTH G1 Sureshot AND Joyride. It's not a question of whether or not they should have made a dedicated mold for each. It's just that they should have made it better in the first place. Alt modes simply aren't a priority anymore, which results in shit toys.

They should have just done Powermaster Optimus Prime first before doing any other Powermasters. When they do him you know they'll pull out all the stops to make the best figure they can, and if done first he'd be the one to establish how modern Powermasters work. Instead we have Slopride.

>I don't get it.

US prices in the last decade caught up to the rest of the world and keep moving forward for reasons*

People in Asia were paying $22 USD for a deluxe during movie 2 days while American were paying 9.99 for the same thing
The price difference being Americans buy a lot more toys- more value= more sales, even at lower prices.

Here what I think is going with the US prices.
Not only the American prices have reached equilibrium with rest of the world (the rest of the world got richer too), I think there is also the issue of foreign importers. They have to be paid too, and since the foreign markets still are not as rich as US market, the importers more or less kept a "cap" on how much increase in price they can have.

Hasbro being the sole controller for the US market, there is no such limit. And they are squeezing as much as they can out of the current customers because a "cliff" is coming.

if you think G1 Sureshot and 2026 whatever-the-fuck Sureshot have "identical alt modes", you're a prime example of how Hasbro can get away with selling this garbage. You don't care about toys. You only care about characters. Almost done with that checklist yet?

>You only care about characters. Almost done with that checklist yet?
NTA but I see this bit of self-hating cope in these generals a lot, either from many anons or (more likely) the same few over and over again ranting about "checklists".
I look at all the other collecting fandoms out there (Star Wars, DC, Marvel, GI Joe, MOTU, etc) and of course they're all allowed to love the characters. That's what most of them are in it for, obviously. It's ONLY a few Transformers "fans" who seem to be aghast at the idea. The characters are 100% what I'm in it for, I can tell you that much. I could still appreciate them as just cool looking robots if it wasn't for that, but I wouldn't be nearly as invested. And I'd probably end up just giving them names/personalities/stories myself anyway.
The reason Optimus Prime, for an easy example, is so beloved is because of his CHARACTER. Not for just being "red truck man".
>>
>>11905836
that's not a fair assumption in the slightest

>>11905869

Wasn't he also part of the live script reading of the first episodes of G1 that they released in theaters a couple years ago?
>>
I really wonder what the fuck they're going to do with SS86 Rodimus. The first Commander Rodimus was the only one that undersold expectations, and he did pretty much everything a Rodimus possibly could. The most obvious different direction they could go with is to make him an all-in-one wherein the cab and trailer all form the robot, except there's no way he could end up fitting in studio series scale if they do that.
>>
>>11905983
Less tech greeble/more cartoon accurate look and colors. Better face. No sword. It’d still might have the gun platform. Did the G1 cartoon ever have a model of that?
>>
>>11905985
Actually, scratch that. I just looked it up and yeah, in the cartoon he was an all in one so that’s the difference that they’re gonna have to engineer. How that’s going to be Commander class will be a mystery.
>>
>>11905959
> It's ONLY a few Transformers "fans" who seem to be aghast at the idea.
Because Transformers is not a conventional "action figure" toyline. The draw has always been the engineering and functionality of the toys i.e. the transformation. Comparing it to shit like MOTU and Star Wars is disingenuous
People like Optimus prime for his character, yes but people like transformers as a whole for the idea of cars that transform into robots because it's a novel idea that doesn't really have any viable competition

People don't like the checklist shit because it gives Hasbro/Takara the pretext to make more expensive, less enjoyable, and super homogenized slop that lost sight as to what made the franchise successful for so many years, which is why they're failing right now. The same checklisters and "real fans" will also chastize you for liking anything that isn't G1 (especially Kiss Players or Bayverse) and scrutinize any attempt the franchise has to come up with new ideas

Nobody is saying you can't love your D-List shitter. It just shouldn't come at the cost of the quality of my figures

You're just one of those "toy engineering ONLY" autists (which you basically admit) combined with good old 4chan contrarianism, which is really just another form of autism.
>>
>>11905996
>You have autism and can't understand different people appreciate things in different ways from you.
Post with literally no self awareness whatsoever, you people have alienated so many of the pre-2018 and pre-2015 transformers fans to a level you don't even realize.
Multiple people have criticized this shit not just in this general but in the wider stretch of the fandom as well. You're accusing me of being the only one against this shit when multiple people have addressed this in the thread already.
>>11906000
>To me, and thousands of others, yes it very much is.
It doesn't matter whether you think it is because by virtue of what it is, it literally isn't and can never be. That's why they have separate toylines for transformers figures that don't transform.
>You're just one of those "toy engineering ONLY" autists
Toy engineering is what defined the franchise for over 30 years but I'm the autistic one to expect that instead of the blind pursuit of "cartoon accuracy".
>>
>>11905993
>The draw has always been the engineering and functionality of the toys i.e. the transformation
This, though I'd still buy a new Action Master line with say, GI Joe level articulation. Just gimme Treadshot and Mainframe, Jackpot and Banzaitron. That'd be cool.
>>
>>11906002
>It doesn't matter whether you think it is because by virtue of what it is, it literally isn't and can never be.
You think this was profound (or even correct) and it's really really not anon.
>That's why they have separate toylines for transformers figures that don't transform.
No one is asking for or wants Transformer figures that don't transform. YOU are the one saying because a transformer doesn't transform "good enough" to your liking or you don't like the end result, it's worthless as a figure (despite that only being half of what the figure does).
>but I'm the autistic one to expect that instead of the blind pursuit of "cartoon accuracy".
Yeah you got me. It is of the utmost importance that I get my cartoon accurate figure of Joyride, the guy who was never in the cartoon. You got me.
Yes, you are the autist, and this reply just clinched it.
>>
>>11906008
>You think this was profound (or even correct) and it's really really not anon.
It's not profound it is actually just the truth. It's the very thing that the franchise is built upon

>YOU are the one saying because a transformer doesn't transform "good enough" to your liking or you don't like the end result, it's worthless as a figure (despite that only being half of what the figure does).
You're mixing me up with someone else you ignorant retard. You literally just said that you think transformers is a conventional action figure line but conventional action figures do not transform from vehicles to robots. What are you talking about you fucking moron?
>but I'm the autistic one to expect that instead of the blind pursuit of "cartoon accuracy".
I mentioned cartoon accuracy because the current teams explicitly say thats what they've geared the current lines towards

Yeah I'm done with him. I see him every thread and he's very easy to spot. The thing is I almost feel sorry for him, I would never call him an autist, etc. if he wasn't such an annoying and aggressive asshole every thread. I'm usually very live and let live and think this guy should be free to enjoy TFs for whatever reason he wants.
But so are the rest of us.
>>
>>11906106
that said his complaint about joyride having no gun is legit
>>
>>11906107
He's not entirely wrong about that, but it is what it is. I just headcanon him as a Cybertronian boxer (even though I'm not allowed to view TFs as characters apparently) from when I saw him in a fighting stance on his box art.
That said...most of us have a million spare guns laying around from various figures, so it's not like it's hard to arm him up. I also wonder why he even cares that a figure he had no intention of buying doesn't have a gun.
>>
>>11905993
this is also why Beast Wars did so well (and why people still love Machine Wars)
They finally had tons of great joints, so they were playable in at least one if not both modes in really fun ways, AND they still transformed properly, you just had to manually position a few things and tab them in. Before that, it was brick city, and directly after that, a LOT of it returned to brick (but not all).
>>
>>11906107
Most of what he says looks legit to me, but I am skimming and having trouble keeping track of the argument.

I unironically do not give a shit, every figure HAS to have a gun, its inexcusable onslaught doesnt have one
>>
>>11906121
Yeah Onslaught 100% needed a gun, at commander price he better come strapped the fuck up.
I think they were really trying to make Swindle's trailer becoming a gun a thing, and have Onslaught and/or Bruticus just use that. But that's telling people how to enjoy their toys (hey, sound familiar?) and really not cool on Hasbro's part.
>>
>>11906108
Not the autist but I might have bought Joyride if he had a gun. I'm not going to pay for Hasbro to stiff me on accessories.

>I would love to see an investigation reveal some kind of cahootz with them and the 3P companies, which would then rip open a huge hole in how chinese 'companies' have infiltrated everything in america to ruin it.
anon you really gotta get off the paranoid China boogieman shit.
The amount of 3P kits that are even produced is almost certainly such a small fraction compared to what Hasbro makes that it'd barely make a dent in what they sell internationally. There's probably up to 100K units of any given retail toy made and if there's 10K of any given upgrade kit I'd be surprised. Even big 3P figures production runs are speculated to be around 3,000-5,000. It's a far smaller figure than people may think.
random niche, fan targeted toy companies are not some front for the CCP to infiltrate American business. China absolutely does shady business practices but they're targeting things in the hundreds of millions and billions, not two or three thousand $40 expansion kits. At that point you might as well look in your walls for Chinamen.

I liked the slow start and buildup of that comic. It was very Song of Ice and Fire/Game of Thrones like almost with the world-building, with the backdrop of a past war and all these namedrops before the massive Autobot/Decepticon war we know is coming. It was the ending that was way too rushed and it showed, with plot points being dropped and loose ends everywhere.
I'd say that continuity had the coolest (or close to it) portrayals of Skywarp, Smokescreen, Swindle, and the Constructicons we've ever gotten.

The powermaster slots on a single piece that goes to the back in robot mode and is barely involved in the transformation.
Couldn't they have made the powermaster smaller and have a spring loaded retractable sheet/pane so it sinks flush below the window?
>>
>>11906148
I mean, it's not a huge leap. I came up with the idea independently. I'm not saying I have proof, I just think an investigation is in order. Government bureaucracy is blowing our tax money regardless, it should at least do some good. but it won't.

It's honestly a shame because in some ways this was the ideal Rodimus, turning his battle platform into an actual trailer on top of giving it base connectors was probably the best thing you could do with it since the original couldn't do shit.

My only gripe with it was that I think the car half stuck out too much in vehicle mode.
>>
>>11905983
>>11906245
Free battle platform, head's similar to Marvel so I quickly warmed up to it, unnecessary ramp port thing that has no relevance now but you can easily remove it, the only tiny issues or puzzles were the car sticking out slightly more, and whatever that front pocket of the trailer is meant to contain, but that's about it
I'll sleep contentedly hugging my Rodimus, knowing that the next one is going to be twice the price and half the size, being able to transform from cab+trailer into one robot at the cost of having hollow bits or like, no waist rotation or something incredibly basic
>>

CHUG was a huge step down with the bullshit "MAH REALIZM VEHICLE MODE" abominations and God knows how many figures were garbage and had to be redone down the line.

Power Masters were always dumb but I'll take modern Joyride who actually has legs and can move his arms out over having to hold a button down to unlock transformation. Targetmasters are way cooler with their gimmick of robot guns
>>
>>11906263
I'm okay with the vehicle vs beast argument, that sounds like a fun nerd time.

I am solidly in MUNKEY NOT TRUK myself, but I'm very open to, for example, a pachycephalosaurus who transforms into a tank-like robot, with a chest that has tank-like front armor skirts and a shoulder-mounted tank turret made out of the tail and the armored head. Or a... uhh... hen. A henformer who ends up with a jackhammer for legs like that movie guy. You get what I'm laying down, right? an elephant that ends up with wheel feet in robot mode.....

har har. but yes, I hated that about transmetals. I'm okay with the shift to metallic animals, even if the organic robot modes were never great, and I can even get behind the weird cyborgy stuff of TM2, but their weapons were garbo. Greta garbo. And the transformations usually suffered pretty hard too. You could see it in the show, they had so little to do now.
>>
>>11906007
We got that three times over.

Super7 failed because of the toys were loose as heck, obscenely expensive, and garbage character selection (didn't even get Ratchet or Ironhide, or the Datsuns, or the rest of the Seekers)

RED wasted too many roster spots on TF Prime and BW characters (the later of which came out the same time WFC Trilogy was doing BW figures) and while affordable and better quality, had shit selection because those roster spots got taken and the best two characters (Galvatron and Shockwave) were rare as fuck due to low production runs because those TF Prime/BW figures pegwarmed like crazy

Blockees ironically has done the best, wholesale imitating Action Masters in scale and giving them GI Joe tier articulation and price. To the point I'm still shocked Hasbro hasn't tried to keep them from being sold in the US.
>>
>>11906268
Power Masters were the better characters though. Darkwing and Dreadwind were cool and their Power Master partners were actually fleshed out characters (a career thief and a scientist who got fucked over by the Nebulon Government and wanted revenge)
>>
>>11906273
> You could see it in the show, they had so little to do now
I think that was intentional, the Transmetals were definitely influenced by the show in that all but Rampage and Depth Charge were designed as season 1 characters, so that they would be available in the following year. The simpler transformations were probably also done so that Mainframe could animate them closer to the toys. At the time it was pretty mind blowing how show accurate they were on the whole, faces aside.
>>
>>11906290
You really think so? I feel like it makes a lot more sense for the toys to deliberately simplify down because they were either lazy, had trouble with the third modes, or felt kids were having too much trouble with the previous ones. (then again, Tigerhawk was a bitch to transform)

The CG models benefit from having simpler transformations in a way, but once they animated them once, they were able to just recycle that animation over and over from different angles and even modifying the stances (though they DID redo them sometimes, to suit angles that looked funny)

I imagine it was mainly for the synergy of it, no reason to make up wholly fake transformations and design elements if it can be helped, and advertises the product better.
I read somewhere, and I don't think it was sourced so take it with a grain of salt, that Kenner worked with Mainframe on the Transmetal designs so maybe it was something hashed out that would work for both of them. Well, maybe not the lack of weapons since Mainframe ended up making gimmicks up.
Initially Mainframe's plans for BW took a lot more creative liberties(like Rattrap's concept) before being dialed down to extreme toy accuracy before becoming something in the middle. Plus I imaging the CGI costs for the third modes would be dialed way down if they were just slightly modified beast modes rather than whole new models they'd have to rig.

I'm just saying, they could have gone with transformations more akin to the likes of Cheetor and Dinobot, where body parts actually move around in creative ways, instead of everyone either standing up or folding into a backpack that sits atop a tiny robot. That would still suit all the concerns you listed.

>>11906644
>Even the Fallen and Vector Prime were created for the 13.

Incorrect. Fallen was a leftover idea from Furman's Marvel comics run that was repurposed as a fallen Prime. Furman has openly admitted several times the 13th number of Primes was more a Hasbro idea in 2005 than his. Vector Prime was Japanese Transformers concept that was just poached over here when the 13 number thing started.

That's what is most fuck up about the whole ordeal was Hasbro wanted a big number, Furman pick 13 and then they retroactively took Prime ideas from older materials to get the 13 out of it.

>>11906681
>>11906683
The first mention of any print of the 13 came in 2006. Anything before that is subject to exist prior to it.
>>
>>11906652
Sakamoto isn't Takara, he makes content that demands certain toys be put in to push sales and they don't give a fuck about the rest, much like how the Marvel run's and really all other media would just have stuff put in it that was never at the request of Hasbro/Takara, the creator just wanted that shit put in there.
>>
>>11906681
Aaron Archer came up with Vector Prime intending to add him to the 13 because he liked the concept.
Without the 13, Vector may well have never been conceived.
>>

>>
>>11906689
Half right. Aaron Archer didn't create Vector Prime or come up with him, the idea was a mix of GONZO writing a character who could travel through spacetime to summon different characters from across the multiverse and Don Figueroa concept art shows they had a reality traveler idea in mind with all the Giant Robo reference in the design. Archer turning him into a Prime came much later in production.

Everything about UT is a dumpster fire due to it's rush nature and everything being a first time for both companies. Galaxy Force was conceived as it's own thing separate from the last two series and Hasbro blunt forced that into being connected to the Armada(Micron Legend)and Energon(Super Link) series. Concept art for these series were people like Don Figueroa and Takashi Kumazen but it's never clear where one begins and ones ends. Most information we have makes it seem like Armada/Micron Legend started as a Hasbro designed toy line and lore that as thing went on progressed over to more heavy to a Takara one with everything going separate ways for Hasbro to work on the 2007 live action movie for then Animated and Prime series to be fully Hasbro with little to no influence with Takara. Takara still did a lot of it's own things like the Go series but the collaboration work with shows was over after Galaxy Force/Cybertron likely due to how poorly both parties work things out and having their own visions for the brand.

tldr: it was just clustered mess because the goal was to sell toys and little else.

>>
>>11906838
No reissue. It doesn't help that Hasbro is also selling Damaged Prime, Skybound Prime and next year Dead Prime with the same mold, so we might have to wait even longer for a reissue.
>>
>>11906840
True, The only two that somewhat escaped this was Animated because it was being made at the same time the film was in production and advertising so they were a lot more hands off and Beast Wars because the brand was all but dead at the time so they were more experimental. That said both started to have issues in their last season because of Hasbro and toys.
>>

>The stand isn't that good, two 5mm pegs in his arse, and even if the ratchets are, not risking a tumble.
The stand is just designed to have Liokaiser in an A stance. This is actually one of the most fun to pose combiners and you don't need a stand for that.

It's a shame you're not able to enjoy it. I can totally get feeling a bit let down after waiting more than a year and a half, the shortcomings, compromises and weird design choices are still totally there. But nonetheless after opening it yesterday I spent almost four hours messing with it without even noticing, so for me this thing is a winner.

Prime did ok it's first season but it's clear by the second one interference was starting to strain the creation processes. Signs of it were there in season one but it was operating well enough, season 2 was when you could tell Hasbro was too hands on with things and it was causing problems. Mind you Prime was very costly to make at about 1.5 Million an episode and Hasbro was trying to get them to get seasons out in ten months time which is break neck speed to the size and scale of the show where the amount of episodes they wanted would normally take two years or more to happen. Note Hasbro was planning the show at 78 episodes in total over 3 years time. So it was already tight but with Hasbro's back and forth on topics like "No Beasts robots" to "put Beast Robots in it!" and the weird ass "Make Optimus Prime Green and tan!" fights that just eroded things down to 65 total and the send off movie which was basically funded by Margaret Loesch as she liked the show enough that she wanted it to have a proper send off.

I mean, at the end on the day it's a Hasbro combiner. You're not going to get revoltech poses out of it, but it has all the articulation points of a modern Transformer and it can hold these poses even taking into account that it is way heavier than a regular figure. If you find modern Transformers articulation acceptable enough, this thing is the same.
At the end of the day it's fun to handle instead of being a cumbersome or wobbly mess.

>>11906915
That's the typical 90s anime combining super robot look for you. It looks like a Brave character and that's always a good thing in my book.

I'm not one of those who will defend toys just because they're expensive, in fact, it's the opposite. There's plenty of things I think could be improved upon since the very firsts pics surfaced, but articulation and combined mode looks are fine to me.
Do I think it's way too expensive? Yeah. Am I having lots of fun with it? Also yeah. So all in all I don't regret getting it. And the good thing is, if you do regret it (and, again, I totally understand why) you can easily sell it like that other anon is going to do.

as for Magnaboss, I have zero faith they can pull him off. He's just not a great design, all things considered. Tripredacus would be a lot easier, he only needs the parts count upped on the arm-bots so they can have proper hands, and tiny proportion tweaking to their robot modes.

>l and the send off movie which was basically funded by Margaret Loesch
I read through the credits of the '86 movie for the first time in my 25 years of watching it, and I was surprised to see Loesch was also a producer on it. It's amazing how many definitive boy's TV shows she was part of in the 80's and 90's in some way, she really had an eye for winners. She ran Fox kids and was the one to buy Power Rangers and X-men for the network and also had some hand in Batman TAS.

Yes as a show, we know that, but as a toyline? We know Hasbro employees thought up of the multiverse/planet hopping idea and worked out the initial ideas on a napkin, they worked on the toys with Takara, Takara had Gonzo make the show and they chose to do their own continuity(or Takara didn't communicate that it was meant to be a sequel or couldn't due to the change in studios for whatever reason)
>>
>>11906834
>>11906974
And Takara will tell you the plan was reality hopping stuff that Hasbro thought was over kids heads and wanted planet keys instead.

That's the messy part, you are getting two stories based on which side of the pond you live.

>>11906977
>And Takara will tell you the plan
Where will Takara tell me that? Not doubting just curious. I know there's usually compilation books in Japanese for any given series along with Generations that gives insight, but Aaron Archer has the podcast he does which tends to give clear insight.
IIRC, from Aaron Archer's talk about it's development it was something like
>the Hasbro team considered doing reality hopping so they could have, say, Cheetor show up
>Hasbro higher ups thought it was too confusing and might be difficult to pull off so they shifted to planet jumping

Something like this is meant more for illustrating ideas quick to other people, they weren't necessarily showing Takara this napkin and asking them to work from it. It's just a quick rough graph in the early stages. We don't get to see much of it but there's lots of sketches done to work out ideas that aren't necessarily going to be perfect.
The other thing is art skills is only part of it. A good chunk of it is being able to work with other people well and organize. And unfortunately a lot of TF fans are autists. So it's not as easy as it may look.

Trabsmetal Cheetor was a top tier toy, no gun required. Just imagine the half-cheetah-head gauntlets blast lasers like the show or imagine the whip/sword weapon sends out laser Shockwave when you strike it. That's how I played as a kid and he was one of my all time favorite figures along with the TM Tarantulas and TM Megatron.

All the Transmetal and TM2 toys were incredibly playable. Most of the Beast Wars line in general was incredible, even the basics. You can count on one hand how many acutal bad figures there were. Its not until Beast Machines that we got true stinkers, and even those were from the canceled Animorph toyline.

The Beast Wars basics figures were incredible when you compare them to the basic figs we get today.

Great at the time and gave us some really good toys but ultimately one of the most replaceable lines in the franchise’s history, as it was little more than a stopgap before Hasbro started giving people what they really wanted (or at least what Hasbro decided people wanted), toon accuracy, from Earthrise onwards.
I’ll always appreciate Siege for re-introducing some semblance of scale back into the toys though.
Looking at it now, I only own 8 Siege toys at this point. Cog, Flywheels, Sixgun, Reflector, Brunt, Spinister, Apeface and Omega Supreme. Everything else has been replaced.

I really can't be into the half cheetah head gauntlets especially with weird spotted lobster hands inside.
if I redesigned it, they would slide back onto the forearms, revealing normal hands, and it would split top-and-bottom, not side-to-side, so one arm would have a cheetah upper jaw and head, and the EYES would shoot lasers, while the other would have the lower jaw and it would sit politely and not do anything

I do agree that they were all playable as fuck. and I like your little duo here. I wish these guys would get new toys, though honestly Insecticon needs basically nothing except perhaps a slight scaling-up, ankle tilts, and wrist joints.

Overrated. Praised mostly by larpers and G1 nerds. Siege and Kingdom were average, Earthrise sucked.
Siege only really existed as an experiment/quick return on investment which started the current trend of Hasbro making the same groups of figures over and over again. The alt modes all sucked. Genuinely the some of worst Cybertronian modes we've had yet. Spinister was obviously by far the best one out of all of them and is probably the best deluxe in the entire trilogy. Siege's aesthetic is also dogshit. The senseless greebling make the figures look like they melted.
Only good weaponizer in Siege was Brunt. Sixgun came close to being good. Cool idea in practice but they never built upon them in a way that mattered all that much. Slammer doesn't really count as a weaponizer due to being an Ironworks retool but he was the best out of all of them and they didn't make anything on that level since. They have no real identity or character and as they went on they just stopped turning into anything believable.
Every Micromaster was somehow worse than the original G1 figures which shouldn't really be possible when those figures had 2 points of articulation but they did it somehow. Core Class thankfully replaced it but it didn't matter too much since Core is a worse version of Legends which was a worse version of Scouts/Basics.
Earthrise conditioned people to accept a lot of bullshit like pointless partsforming, weapons not coming with figures, selling way smaller figures for more, godawful materials, and some of the worst engineering in the franchise.
Commanders were good though
>>
>>11907571
To be fair, it wasn't an issue with ALL Nacelles - it was just the first batch of him that hit the shelves. Mine was the second batch, and to this day he's still perfectly fungus-free, so the issue seems to have been limited to only the first few crates of him (and was most likely the result of them being stuffed into fungus-filled shipping crates that got their spores all over him rather than an issue with the plastic on the figure itself - I've never heard of a solid plastic toy growing that stuff on them up until that incident, and never again afterwards, either).

>wait, the blue shit on the lion face?
What about it? That's how he looks.
>>
>>11907826
>why is the head split in half?
All versions of the Airazor mold have a seam running down the middle of the bird head, even the Terrorsaur and Filch versions. Usually, they're sandwiched together tightly enough that it's not noticeable, but it looks like the one they used for the picture just wasn't squashed shut enough; nothing you couldn't fix yourself just by pushing the pieces together.

If we're going to nitpick, MP28 has better proportions despite the torso being so square. The wider frame and longer legs make him look more dynamic. SS86, despite being the better figure, has the same homogenized contemporary design that every other Generations figure has nowadays so he looks way more boring

>MP28 has better proportions despite the torso being so square. The wider frame and longer legs
I like how you claim MP28 better proportions then immediately describe how MP28's proportions are terrible.

Hot Rod's not supposed to be wide, he's a quintessential Floro Diery design like Arcee, he's lean and human-like. Only SS86 accomplishes that, even compared to 3rd parties, from what I've seen anyway. Trying to avoid faux parts is a fool's errand, the car hood will always compromise Hot Rod's torso.
>>
>>11907868
>I like how you claim MP28 better proportions then immediately describe how MP28's proportions are terrible.
Like I said it's a nitpick, also yes the super robot proportions are better the generic floro dery blockman proportions.
The wider frame is emphasized due to the smaller head but he is still lean overall, but the shoulders make him more athletic and dynamic. While the SS86, despite being more accurate, looks more boring and basic, he looks like every other G1 blockman.

I don't care how Floro Dery's proportions are supposed to look, I prefer the super robot esque proportions of MP28

Won't know until we see his full paint job. As someone who actually owns the MP, I will say this guy will definitely be more fun to transform - the MP is a mess of panels, particularly around the lion head because it does a whole "switches from cool robo-lion face in Robot Mode to anime-accurate one in Beast Mode" thing which makes him far more convoluted to fiddle with than necessary. The downside will be that, since this is using the Anniversary mold, he'll be missing two of his guns because of the retooled mane.
