Thoughts on capes? The one good thing about the star wars ccbs is they had a lot of cheap clothing and capes. These are lifted from the blind guy and captain phasma I had scraps of.

Cool to try and make custom ones, as long as it doesn’t cover up the whole body it’s fine by me, may be cook to make one that covers up one side and has the hand go through it though. Just a shame about all the official ones prices. Also a shame about all the aftermarket prices for those damn chains being exorbitant
>>
>>11910417
Honestly?
For the past week I've been imagining what a constraction line designed to incorporate elements Bionicle couldn't do because of its established world building and apparel was one of them
I don't have drawings or anything but I basically pictured something more 2000's goth and Victorian-era in mind
I know Kualus has a scarf but that's still a fan design and I was imagining that kind of look being more standard for the hypothetical theme in my head
>>
>>11910454
I feel like Gen 2 benefits most from the star wars capes/robes (and the guns too) because the mostly flat texture and similar body structure to the star wars ccbs figures. I did not know that chains were getting expensive, I gave most of mine away as scrap lego. With all the clear parts and bright colors I do think the capes help Gen 2 from looking looking too frutiger aero aesthetic.
>>
>>11910460
Yeah those bionicle chains are super expensive, tread chains not as much but they are harder to use in a build
>>
Slowly building up an army sized amount of universal joints and other steering related shit, gotta figure out how to use them for bionicle besides big vehicle for toa
>>
So this is VERY SPECIFIC z-list LEGO?
And why, exactly, is it better than third Party KO Chinese blockLEGO?
>>
>>11910775
what
>>
>>11910775
If you have third-party balljoint-compatible construction figures that you would like to show off, you are more than welcome to do so, because ultimately this is more a constraction thread than strictly Bionicle. I for one love a good booty.

I finished the gun and it does fire, in theory anyway. Theres a single plastic axle that the entire mechanism relies on and I feel replacing it with a metal one would be better.

My 3D-printed blade worked. Fit perfectly. Sucks that the intact one aged and lost its hue, but I feel something that I have been missing for so long is finally done. Guurahk was my first BIONICLE, gifted in my birthday decades ago. And the one whose blade I broke.
Some others got its pieces lost over time or broken spontaneously (my Phantoka Lewa oddly enough) but this is the one I really felt it was something I needed to deal with
>>
>>11911985
Maybe it's just the FOV, but that bit on the back right before the knob looks like it's at an angle to start with. I don't think it's properly legally fitting between the Roborider chassis and the socket piece, and consequently you're ending up forcing the axle to bend whenever it rotates.
>>
>>11912613
It looks really accurate, but mind explaining why 3D print a replacement for Guurahk's staff? That piece was reused throughout all of G1, why not just get a new one?
>>
>>11912613
Got any other projects on the work bench? It'd be cool to see new rahkshi spines or more mask recolors.
>>
anybody know if kingsidorak printed pieces are quality? im looking to replace all the ball joint socked limbs from the visorak lines, all of my toa and villains from 06-07 have cracks and are majorly damaged

pic rel? no the whole thing spins fine without any ammo loaded and that piece is a pin hole all throughout. I'm very certain it's just the fact that abs plastic is not strong enough to fire 2 or more missiles
>>11911991
I wanna upgrade the central axle first
>>
>>11913255
Yeah, that. Maybe the perspective on it is just screwy on account of the gear being sloped, I'll have to replicate it and see what's going on there.

>My 3D-printed blade worked. Fit perfectly.
Hm. Whenever I thought about 3D-printed Bionicle or Bionicle-likes, I always discounted it based on ball joints; too rough unless you sand, and even then likely too brittle to hold over time. But pieces that only rely on axles ought to be totally fine. I guess pins (or any other connection relying on tension rather than pure friction) would be another weak spot for 3D printed parts, but probably not as bad as ball joints.

It gets me thinking about a modular building system based around 3D printing everything but ball joints and their connections. I've always imagined a superior system to Bionicle would be more modular in the first place, and it'd be cool if the majority of it could be DIY'd; the limit on high-quality repro Bionicle parts seems to be that injection moulding is too expensive to justify the quantity sold of most parts, especially given the variety of pieces. But if there were only a handful of ball joint parts that needed it those could be pumped out and sold in bulk while the rest is handled with cheaper manufacturing options (including by the users themselves).

Thinking of the colours you've got going so far, dark blue for the arms could look super cool, and there are a lot of limb pieces available in that colour.

And if you want to improve the range of motion on the shoulders, you could do something like pic related. That said, your torso right now looks really good, and this would make things a decent bit bulkier. Stability might still be okay since it looks like you're going to put both hands on the gun (plus a stand?).
>>
>>11901953
Bionicle's in this weird place where if it was owned by almost any toy company it'd be something they'd at least try to prioritize more and keep running to a degree
Maybe they keep an amount of the molds getting made and lean more into that market being largely empty
Maybe they'd be more open to licensing deals toy related or not keeping the brand active in that way especially for nostalgia money
Maybe they'd be like WEP and Voltron or why the Chaotic card game is coming back in that they HAVE to keep the IP somewhat active because they have nothing else
Lego however is fucking Lego, they have broader options with their universal system that people outright call any interlocking bricks "Legos" despite Lego's repeated pleas for people not to do that
I'm not trying to whine over it, I do understand why Bionicle is dormant and I honestly don't think Lego hates Bionicle like certain people do
>>
>>11914992
Lego certainly does not hate Bionicle as a whole, but they do know mousecucks make up something like 70% of their revenue and will never do anything to upset Goysney, which of course means never reviving Bionicle.
>>
>>11915171
There are many different reasons Lego just can’t bring Bionicle back, from their policy on mold destruction to the failure of G2 tainting the brand for retailers. It’s not just because Lego makes shitloads collaborating with big IPs now, though that certainly plays a role. Bionicle was something that Lego needed when it was on the brink of death; it isn’t necessarily what Lego needs now.

It sucks that we’ll probably never get more proper Bionicle from Lego ever again, but that’s where we come in. We will keep the flame alive and keep retelling the legend. Don’t be sad that it has come to an end; be glad that it happened!
>>
>>11915171
Maybe if somebody snipes somebody at disney who’s forcing the LSW shit constantly bionicle has am iota of a chance to come back.
>>
>>11915314
If you ask me, I think the failure of G2 is the biggest indicator that we'll never have a proper Bionicle line ever again. People have their theories and reasons as to why they think it didn't pop off like the OGs did, doesn't change that it's something definitive Lego can look at and go "We tried and people didn't buy it". Sucks to see something we all know and love treated that way, but it is what it is. Lego is perfectly happy to include the occasional Easter Egg or reference in other sets they know will sell for non-Bionicle reasons.

Personally I'd rather it stay dead because I know if it were to come back it would almost certainly be System and Bionicle being a non-System line was part of the charm. My "If I had billions and could make Lego do anything" wish wouldn't even be for new sets, I'd just make them reforge old molds I'm sure they still have specs of and do assorted part reprints.

Old MOC for attention.

it looks like this
>>
>>11915315
I don't think current Lego could ever bring back Bionicle in the way old fans want, irrespective of any strong feelings anyone there may or may not have on the matter. Back then the whole concept of a multimedia-backed in-house line was in a super experimental stage that has long since passed, and by now the "correct" formula has settled in far too much to leave room for anything that wild. Even if Bionicle returned with serious effort behind it, it would more likely just end up a Ninjago clone instead of anything resembling G1.
>>
Again, I'm fine with Bionicle being over
I love it a lot but even back then I thought G1 had a solid ending
It's the fact that a theme didn't truly replace it for today in constraction that rubs me the wrong way
Bare in mind, I was cool with Hero Factory even if I thought it could've done more
>>
>>11915979
>it would more likely just end up a Ninjago clone
So G2? The sets were definitely Ninjagofied with the spam of gold, silver and transparent colors
>>
>>11916363
I'm fine with it being over as a toy line, I still long for a game though or something set in the universe.
My yearly playthrough of MNOG might be influencing me.

>>11915543

>>
>>11915979
>>11916388
>>11916363
At this point I've accepted Bionicle's retirement. It's nice to get nods to the series here and there, but G2 was so distinct from what preceded it I'd rather it have been a new IP outright. My larger desire these days is a revival of true constraction. I hate the brick built mixel jointed builds so much. In my book, you just cannot beat buildable robots.
>>
>>11915345
Great MOC, always love that color scheme.

I'd be fine with lego burying bionicle outright if they just let fans take the wheel. More companies should embrace the TF2 approach. Just hand off the baton to the fans and let them take the wheel. How much money was lego actually going to lose out on if that one fan game came out? Or the fully realized build of the PC game for that matter? It's just so cunty of them.

I'm of the same opinion. It has some loose threads that needed to be closed including the entirety of Bota Magna.
But it successfully paid off the foreshadowing of nearly a decade with Mata Nui's revelation and then capped it off with the Journey's End. We have no end to stories and franchises axed that leave you bitter, BIONICLE instead gave you a finale worthy of its run.
Furthermore nowadays the industry is just different. It wouln't ever work in a modern context because modern hobbies *have* to appease someone. Better let it rest in its grave than become something like Star Wars.
