What’s on the workbench, /toy/?

Sculpts, Castings, 3D-Prints, Dioramas, Modifications, Kit-Bashes, and Plushies are all welcome!

Post WIPs, finished projects, ideas, techniques, ask for advice, and most of all, have fun!

>HELPFUL TIPS:

-Invest in a rotary tool such as a dreml for sanding/sculpting, especially a flexible extension tip.

-Pin vises for drilling holes can be found at hobby stores like Hobby Lobby and are great for making peg holes.

-For soft/flexible parts get Sugru silicone putty and Oyumaru, this can also be used to make copies of certain parts by using them as a two part mold.

-Hardware epoxy putties such as Waterweld, KwikWood, and PlasticWeld are similar to milliput, greenstuff, and apoxie, can be cheaper some times, and can be found at local hardware stores such as Lowes, Ace, and Home Depot.

-Bootleg figures make great custom-fodder, especially if the legit figures are pricey.

-Body-chan/kun, Figma Archetype He/She, Romankey x Cowl, Notta toys Female/Male and Sozai-chan/kun are great base bodies for import-style human characters.

-Silicone Grease/Oil is perfect for tight or stuck articulations on figures and accessories without risking to damage them

There's a really decent headsculpt underneath the black metal paint of the Actionverse Doomsday Sentinel! Just paint his face, chest plate, belt center, maybe fill in the weapon port holes, and you have an 8" Soldier class Sentinel for your Marvel Legends to battle!

Oh nice, my figure prototype made it to the OP!
As mentioned in >>11919024 I managed to print a very successful near-final model. Needs tolerances adjusting and the hip sockets need to be redesigned slightly, but otherwise pretty satisfied with it as a proof-of-concept. Especially as I can essentially take the base file and make it into any body type I want going forward.

I saw this HUNK helmet on aliexpress so picked it up. No idea what figure it's from, maybe the re-issue of the GM Toys Reaper I missed. I love helmeted figures and his design though.
I have this Wind Toys blank which is perfect for it, but I'm realizing just how bad my other 1/12 figures are scaled because they're all like 16cm, making this one look small.
Might bug me, so currently considering if I'll put it aside and get a VToys or Nottaa body.

Thanks for baking. We should at least try to keep one thread on the catalog, especially if we hit image limit.

That's PVC hard plastic?

>>11919756
I like that blank and it is perfect for that head. Sometimes, I think people are too hung up on scale. I am sometimes finding myself on the subway trains or bus/shuttles especially in the business district when I took an Uber/Lyft in and even though I'm only 5'10, I can tower over people or have a few tower over me. One time, I am sure it was some high school team because 4 kids who were all over 6' hopped on but even they didn't 'scale' with one another, since one was easily Conan O'Brien sized.

Speaking of hard plastic (arms barely move) toys, I found this Red Hulk for under $3, grabbed to use the head as a huge prop. What can you do with the rest of one of those besides landfill?
Figured I might as well pull the arms off - if I can - and set those aside but the rest I neither want nor see an obvious use for?
>>
>>11919785
Torso is hard plastic and the rest is PVC like Marvel Legends limbs. Ball joint head, no wrist/ankle or waist movement tho.
>>
>>11919756
okay that is useful. neat proportions. 1/12 has all the luck.
>>11919786
statue prop? doesn't look like the rest is articulated.
>>
>>11920113
Yes, it's bigger than even most 1/8-1/10th sculpted action figure heads I have so it's just to have as background.

I can probably unscrew and harvest the hands, like the green ones that came in that Legends DP deluxe figure and that folks bug fox cosplay/display. The head is on some sort of peg so it should come off easily. The rest except for maybe the arms? is landfill fodder??

>>11919925
I can see the articulation joints. You're using regular acrylic paint or something else when you touch something like this up? There's a Spinmaster PVC figure that's a big too cartoon and bright next to your bog standard Legends, Classified, NECA, McFarlane line up, but scale-wise and detail, I hope/think it could look good - after some 'sprucing up.'
>>
>>11920348
even minus as many parts as you can remove from it, I say it STILL works well as a statue, for a diorama. So many oeuvres have room for a huge broken statue of a naked guy in the background.

Duh sorry.
I read your other message as a question of what I wanted the head for NOT as a suggestion. I don't know about his pants, but I could probably sand those down or put it in a pedestal like PICREL. I'll need to figure out a good way to 'dirty' up some white paint to make it look like old statuary. Thanks?
>>
>>11920403
yeah I figured the pants would need sanding down, but since there's no ragged edges, that shouldn't be that hard. and you could disguise it with carved in cracks
>dirty up
i'm pretty sure the pros use actual-ass dust. Like the leftover plastic dust you get after using a grinding tool on shit. Don't even have to mix it into the paint, just sprinkle it on while wet.
I also think you wanna do lil brush-flickies, for some splatter. but take it easy with that, fine line between rock-speckle and graffiti.
