What is it about this company that gets this board so riled up in a frenzy sometimes? The way some of you describe it, you'd think Hasbro killed your dog or something. They make perfectly acceptable figures imo, I don't see why people are so contentious about this company. Is it just because they hold such big IPs? Sure the rising prices suck, but literally everything is going up in price so it's not like it's exclusive to Hasbro products. I dunno, the hate just feels so forced to me.
>>
>>11934287
It's because they keep putting prices up without justifying the cost, they keep making tiny little improvements here and there, like 3D scanning for actor likenesses, face-printing, going pinless, which are all great, but they keep putting fewer accessories in, keep making Transformers smaller, cheaping out on materials, having poor QC, and charging more and more. They also do really shifty shit, like releasing a figure, then a couple months later releasing the same figure with more accessories, or releasing a figure that is the same size as a standard release, is made up of re-used parts, has almost no accessories, and then charge twice as much. The amount of money they probably save on releasing redecos or minor retools on Transformers should more than cover the costs of new tooling for new figures, but Transformers go up in price faster than Marvel Legends or Star Wars. A straight re-deco Deluxe figure, which is smaller than what Deluxe used to be, costs as much now as what Leader class used to cost 6 years ago.
Sure prices are going up everywhere, but not to the extent that Hasbro is charging, and especially not for the figures they're giving us.
And if these figures really are that expensive to produce, maybe they shouldn't keep giving their upper management 15 million dollars in bonuses each, every single year.

Go back to sucking off Cocks, Hasbro shill

The only line that isn't a ripoff is G.I. Joe Classified Series, that's the only one still providing value. Everything else is ripping off consumers and giving them less and less. Marvel getting rid of BAF to support the bottom line, Star Wars having virtually no accessories, Transformers being full of repaints and redecos as well as designer pet favorites over fan demand, etc.
>>
I just think they make some of the worst toys and somehow continue to coast based on their stranglehold on IPs and the fact the average collector only buys cheap shit, of which they have the market mostly cornered. But buy whatever you like, I don’t really give two shits about the company or what anyone spends their money on.
>>
>>11934292
Bet you can't name any examples
>>
>>11934287
I've been thinking about this a lot because I don’t get the Hasbro hate either.
>They make perfectly acceptable figures imo
They really do. No one else is making figures as good for $30. Blokees does not count. You could pay triple/quadruple the price of Hasbro and get some Asian import and it'll still have problems. So in comparison for the price, Hasbro is not that bad. People take them for granted too much. Without Hasbro, most people who can’t afford imports would not have toy collections.

I think there are two problems. One, toy collectors are retarded, two Hasbro is not consistent across their lines and people don’t collect everything to be able to make objective conclusions.

There are a lot of entitled poorfags that think they deserve the best thing ever fully loaded with hands, heads, effects, build a figs and whatever else and it should all cost only $6 because that’s how much it was in 2004.

There are also stupid richfags that think higher price = higher quality and for some reason they enjoy punching down on cheap things they’re too good for or people who can’t afford the things they can. I think both these groups make up a lot of the hate.

But the other thing is line consistency. I’m not sure what you collect OP but most of my Hasbro figures are from Star Wars Black Series but I used to have many transformers as well and have gotten some new ones. I also recently got Lara Croft, my first technical GI Joe.

I think Black Series might be their best line and their sculptors are just ahead of the rest. I was surprised how far behind an average black series Lara felt so GI Joe might not be that great. People here that are always mad mostly buy Marvel Legends or Transformers. I’ve been positive on Hasbro because black series is generally pretty good but maybe my opinion would be different if I collected something else. But even then, for the price range, there aren’t really any better options. People might just be too spoiled.
>>
>>11934292
>It's because they keep putting prices up without justifying the cost
So has every other toy company, but I don't see nearly as much bitching about them as I do Hasbro. Everything has gone up in price without justifying the cost, hell, most things at the grocery store are more expensive while giving you less.

>but they keep putting fewer accessories in
I dunno, I feel like this is overblown, there were plenty of toys even just a decade ago that would only come with like a pair of hands. This isn't new.

>keep making Transformers smaller
Yeah this is objectively true. Remember what Leaders used to be?

>cheaping out on materials, having poor QC
I dunno I feel like materials have gotten better, I remember hos gummy some old Marvel Legends could be. They're not nearly as bad now. As for QC, that ebbs and flows, I have experienced eras of good and bad QC.

>They also do really shifty shit, like releasing a figure, then a couple months later releasing the same figure with more accessories, or releasing a figure that is the same size as a standard release, is made up of re-used parts, has almost no accessories, and then charge twice as much
Almost every toy company does this though. Bandai is notorious for it.

>Sure prices are going up everywhere, but not to the extent that Hasbro is charging
Really? Because I see other companies like McFarlane charging even more for their basic stuff. My imports are like $25 more expensive than they used to be and that's before you add in the $30ish shipping I now have to pay for the cheapest option.
>>
>>11934294
>Marvel getting rid of BAF
BAFs were almost always a gimmick to get you to buy figures you otherwise wouldn't have. Getting rid of them in favor of just releasing them as a deluxe or something is cheaper for the consumer since you won't have to buy 3 figures you don't want just to complete a BaF.

>Star Wars having virtually no accessories
I dunno, the upcoming Clone Marine and X-Wing Luke figures I have pre-ordered seem to have everything I'd want them to come with. Granted I don't pay attention to TVC so it's probably worse off there, I won't discredit that.

>Transformers being full of repaints and redecos as well as designer pet favorites over fan demand, etc.
This has been the model since the literal inception of the line. Not sure what you're getting so huffy about.
>>
>>11934301
>Black Series is the best
>I only bought one GI Joe and based on that sample size it's not great
You should be careful to call other toy collectors retarded if you're already considering that conclusion based on your sample size. Compare a standard price point Classified vs a standard price point Black Series and its night and day, and if you start looking at deluxe figure stuff and what a Deluxe Joe offers vs a Black Series it puts Black Series to shame. The Disney Tax is in full affect on that line. Classified Series goes so far as to have absolutely bullshit levels of fake eye detail.
>>
>>11934304
>BAFs were almost always a gimmick to get you to buy figures you otherwise wouldn't have.
This is revisionist history. BAFs were a way to get out more additional figures, typically larger ones and sometimes riskier ones that wouldn't be released at normal retail. Saying it's okay to get rid of it is just genuinely a way to accept getting less while paying the same price. If you didn't want the BAF piece, just give it away or sell it to someone who wanted it. If you felt compelled to buy more to get the BAF, that's on you for having an overly consumer mindset, but don't actively wave off that you're genuinely getting less with what you spend.

>This has been the model since the literal inception of the line.
Do you collect Transformers, because it sounds like you don't. No one is asking for Machine Wars, hell that stuff sold like shit when it came out, but the current designer is spending precious new mold resources on that because he and only he is nostalgic for it, and it'll shelfwarm again.
>>
>>11934302
>So has every other toy company
But not to the extent that Hasbro has.

>there were plenty of toys even just a decade ago that would only come with like a pair of hands.
For me it depends on the figure/character. Like if we're talking a Stormtrooper then an E-11 blaster is all you need, but Spider-man should always come with three sets of hands, thwip, fist, crawling, especially given that you could re-use the same hands for every release. And then there's bullshit like the Deadpool and Wolverine Brown suit Wolverine, who comes with an accessory to have his mask down, but no unmasked head, because they want you to use the head from the previous yellow suit, but that makes that figure inaccurate then, which for some autists is REALLY annoying.

>Remember what Leaders used to be?
I have ROTF Leader Class Optimus and that thing seems like insanity compared to what we get now.

>As for QC, that ebbs and flows
Yeah, and I will admit that it has gotten better for the most part, but it still sucks when there is a widespread issue, especially on a sought-out figure.
>>
>>11934314
>Bandai is notorious for it.
Yeah, but depending on what you collect from Hasbro, they're real bastards for it, you remember how they managed to sucker everyone into buying Siege and then turn around and drop Earthrise six months later, and then introduce Studio Series? Or how they've been taking sought after characters, and sticking them in multi-packs, then doing a single release a year or so later.

>Really? Because I see other companies like McFarlane charging even more for their basic stuff.
McFarlane have been pretty wild about their increases, and that does suck, but they're a much smaller company. I think it's really that not only does Hasbro constantly increase price, they do it with really flimsy excuses and aren't consistent about price points. If a deluxe figure is gonna be more expensive, fine, then it should be a deluxe figure, not a regular figure in a bigger empty box. I pointed out in another thread recently that the new Doc Samson, which is only slightly larger than a regular figure and has a lot of re-use and bugger all paint/accessories, costs almost as much as the Professor Hulk from the same wave. The fact that I've seen "deluxe" Vintage Collection figures going for more than standard Black Series is just insane to me.

As for imports, that's just tarriff bullshit.
>>
>>11934307
I dunno, other than Joes coming with more accessories I feel like the figures themselves are fairly comparable. The articulation is different across both lines sure, but each has it's strenghts that are exclusive to them. I think a lot of the newest Black Series figures might be some of the best sculpts we've ever seen of some of these characters. Whereas Joes have much more play friendly articulation and accessory counts. I dunno, I collect both lines and I like each for what they are.
>>
>>11934309
No way anon, BaFs are definitely a gimmick to get you to buy figures you wouldn't otherwise. If I want a BaF character I'm stuck just buying the full wave or peacemealing out the BaF which is almost never cheaper. I'd much rather pay $40-$50 for one and call it a day, then if I don't need to buy and deal with figures I don't want.

>Do you collect Transformers, because it sounds like you don't
I do

>o one is asking for Machine Wars, hell that stuff sold like shit when it came out, but the current designer is spending precious new mold resources on that because he and only he is nostalgic for it, and it'll shelfwarm again.
Then don't buy it. Oh god, they're making something you don't want, whatever will you do? Lol, I'll never understand why people get upset at this. It just saves you money to buy stuff you actually want later on. Only completioinist retards think like this.
>>
>>11934314
>But not to the extent that Hasbro has.
You kidding right now? Todd McFarthead is asking $35 for a regular DC Multiverse figure right now lmao. Imports used to be like $50-$60 for a regular sized figure. Bandai just solicited a stand alone Chiaotzu for $65. The new Tien to go with him is $75, the original Tien, which came with more accessories, was $60, maybe even cheaper depending on where you imported him from and how much you paid for shipping. And that original figure came out in like 2018 or so.

>Spider-man should always come with three sets of hands, thwip, fist, crawling, especially given that you could re-use the same hands for every release
Admittedly they have been getting better about this. Last few Spidey variants I've gotten have had the full suite and those were regular releases, but I do understand the sentiment.

>which for some autists is REALLY annoying.
Sorry but everything you listed about that is such trivial shit that I can't even take it seriously.

>but it still sucks when there is a widespread issue, especially on a sought-out figure.
Bruh, shit happens. It happens across literally every industry. Don't even get me started on the electronics industry and their bullshit, look at the folding iPhone that just came out.
>>
>>11934319
>Then don't buy it. Oh god, they're making something you don't want, whatever will you do? Lol, I'll never understand why people get upset at this.
You're really not the sharpest knife in the drawer are you?

>Put money into thing
>Sells poorly
>Budget cuts and inevitable cancellations

This is what killed core class. This is why Velocitron Hot Rod got cancelled. Bizarre character selection, leading to lack of interest, therefore lack of sales, and things start getting cut. We've seen it before and at this rate it will continue, especially with higher prices. How do you not understand this basic business problem?
>>
>>11934317
>Yeah, but depending on what you collect from Hasbro, they're real bastards for it, you remember how they managed to sucker everyone into buying Siege and then turn around and drop Earthrise six months later, and then introduce Studio Series?
The TF thing isn't nearly as egrigious as some shit Bandai has done brother. At least with Siege vs ER vs SS, they all have different aesthetics. Sure, you can mix and match if you want, and they just reused some molds for SS, but you can also keep them all exclusive from one another. That's not nearly as bad as Bandai reissuing a highly desired figure like Super Sayian Vegeta only to turn around and literally a month after the reissue comes out, announce a whole new and improved 2.0 version of the figure that is in every way the superior version, fucking over literally the entire community who just got their reissue in hand. They've done this a few times now, and I find that to be far more egregious. All these toy companies pull shady bullshit like this, it's not exclusive to Hasbro and Hasbro isn't even the worst at it.

> I pointed out in another thread recently that the new Doc Samson, which is only slightly larger than a regular figure and has a lot of re-use and bugger all paint/accessories, costs almost as much as the Professor Hulk from the same wave.
I don't disagree with this, but again, tons of other companies do this same thing, so it's not like it's exclusively a Hasbro thing.

>As for imports, that's just tarriff bullshit.
No way, the base price of most imports have gone up $20 or so from when I started collecting them back in the early 2010s. And I could get away with paying $10 shipping for them. Now, they're at least $20 more expensive on the base level, and I'm stuck paying a minimum of $32 shipping for the cheapest, shittiest option to ship just one fucking figure. Sorry but it's not just tariffs, it's the base price too.
>>
>>11934325

I've never used reddit, I don't know what makes something reddit or not, you seem to know more about it than I do.

>>EVERYONE WHO DISAGREES WITH ME IS A SAMEFAG
I didn't say that at all. I'm just pointing out that you don't have any actual arguments. Where did I even accuse someone else of being you?

I know stupid, they're mine. You can't just ignore arguments that discredit you and then ask "how come no one is arguing with me?" No one wants to argue with you because you're being a raging faggot. Nobody wanting something kills lines because people stop buying. And Hasbro has many instances of this, like how they killed Lightning Collection after poor sales due to poor quality and inability to complete a team. Jazwares Fortnite was highly regarded but when Hasbro got it the line barely lasted a year and got killed. Transformers Core Class had several identity crisises and got cancelled with rows of Shockwaves and Ravages still clogging shelves. Now stop being such a raging faggot claiming no one can argue against you.
>>
>>11934345
Pot calling the kettle black right here.
>>
>>11934368
>obody wanting something kills lines because people stop buying. And Hasbro has many instances of this, like how they killed Lightning Collection after poor sales due to poor quality and inability to complete a team
While Playmates does a better strategy in releasing whole teams together, the poor sales of their toys kinda shows it's more Power Rangers not being relevant anymore than anything.

>Jazwares Fortnite was highly regarded but when Hasbro got it the line barely lasted a year and got killed
People only got Jazzwares Fortnite for the wacky characters. I have a few and comparing them to Hasbro the figures definitely don't feel as good imo.

>Transformers Core Class had several identity crisises and got cancelled with rows of Shockwaves and Ravages still clogging shelves.
You're not wrong there. That's why i never argued against it the first time you brought it up, because there's nothing to argue, you're right, they fucked the Core line to hell and it sucks. But again, this kind of thing isn't exclusive to Hasbro. Bandai again does shit like this all the time, they started doing Cowboy Bebop figures and started of course with Spike, but then made the next figure Vicious who only appears in a handful of episodes. No one bought him so they didn't bother making the rest of the Bebop crew despite already showing off Faye. They also did this with the Gundam pilot sub line. They started with G Gundam, a not as popular iteration, and so they had very few sales, when if they just made UC era stuff like Amuro and Char, they'd sell like hot cakes, which was proven later on when they ended up reviving the subline a decade later, finally making Char, and having him sell very well. I could go on about Bandai doing shit like this, but I still like their figures and still buy from them so it doesn't even matter.
>>
>>11934382
See the problem with everything you've been responding with to every other anon in the thread is that all you're doing is just spouting constant whataboutisms. You can't just ask "why do people have problems with Hasbro" and when people list it, then just go off about how others have that problem.

The entire state of the toy and hobby industry is garbage right now. A lot of companies are in the shitter. Now, some people just collect Hasbro, others collect multiple, but Hasbro is ultimately one of the big dogs here with a wide variety of IPs (that they've hogged up no less, which is another problem). They're going to get the most complaints. Now another argument could be made about whether Hasbro is a trendsetter or trendfollower, but at the end of the day, Hasbro still exhibits all these problems. Just because others do it doesn't make it okay. That's like saying "Well yeah Trump was butt buddies with Epstein but so was Clinton so it cancels itself out." It doesn't work like that.
>>
>>11934287
At least for Transformers, these are the issues I've seen for nearly a decade since Siege released:

-During Siege, some figures would spread the accesories between redecos. This got even more frustrating when some molds would release a year or so later, with all those accesories included (this was mostly fixed later, so there's that).
-Hasbro was very quick to raise prices after Siege. For context, Siege already had a price increase for all size classes, which was allegedly done to improve figured all around (more paint, articulation, usage of screws on several higher priced figures and color separation). A year later, qc started suffering, screws were suddenly gone, and they slowly stripped away a number of things Siege added (excerpts exist, showing that Hasbro did massive budget cuts during ER, and we were never told if the budget was increased since).
-Hasbro is also the first to raise prices, many companies would absorb some of the covid increases, before finally doing a price hike, while Hasbro would do it well ahead of them, then proceeded to do another price hike barely a year after the first.
-Following up on the qc issues, there was a widespread qc issue that lasted for years, where figures would yellow rapidly, and Hasbro didn't make getting your cash back easy.
-Their Haslabs have also been a mixed bag, with Unicron being so flimsy, they pushed the campaign back, and added missing features, while Victory Saber was a qc nightmare (same for Omega Prime).
-In recent years, they've also done some questionable pricing decisions on exclusive figures, charging way more than the included toys were worth, a good example being Armada Nemesis Prime and Star Saber being 90 dollars, while the Red Alert set with Minicons also having a voyager sized figure, a redeco of the Star Saber figures, plus 5 additional minicons being 80.

I dunno, I feel like there are plenty of other companies out there that do far worse shit than Hasbro does yet all I see is crying about Hasbro. Maybe it does have to do with majority of people collecting there stuff, I dunno. It just comes off as so forced to me when they make perfectly adequate toys.

I think faggots are mostly butthurt and I love my modern Transformers more then I do a lot of my older ones but man does Hasbro's customer service fucking suck. If my order is fucked up just find a way to fucking replace my item. Save a few stock in case these issues arise so customers can exchange without worry. My Powerlinx Red Alert was missing shit but because I don't want to send back the minicons and risk not getting them I'm shit out of luck.
>>
>>11934462
Yeah I'd say Jada's offerings are a tad better than Marvel Legends but then their release schedule and character selection for any of their lines outside of Street Fighter are kinda ass. Don't get me wrong, I like my Jada figs but they're really not that much better than Hasbro offerings.
>>
>>11934307
>You should be careful to call other toy collectors retarded if you're already considering that conclusion based on your sample size
I realized that when typing so you'll notice I tried not to make a definite statement but I also hit the character limit and couldn’t expand further. If GI Joes are good, cool but I hope accessory count is not your main measure of quality. Sculpting is an art and there are a lot of things you have to balance like aesthetic, detail, and articulation. Imo sculpting should be the main metric of how good a figure is. Black Series is much better at hiding ugly joint cuts than ML or Joe for example. I would pay more for a figure even if it had no accessories if the sculpt was so good it looked like it jumped out of the screen than less just because it has some effect pieces or something that I’m never even going to use. I guess it’s personal preference but if we're talking about quality, I don’t think accessories matter. If we're talking about value then I guess they would matter more but I think people should learn to see the value in good sculpting too so I think even limited accessory figures can have good value. Look at the upcoming Queen Amidala for example. No accessories but it’s a gorgeous and detailed display piece for only $30. You’re not getting that anywhere else.

>>11934462
Jada is fine but their output isn’t close to Hasbro's, they make only a few figures per year. And their prices are going up too. If you don’t mind waiting or think quality over quantity, okay but for those that want full casts of characters in a reasonable timeframe, Hasbro wins.
