I have some spots in palos verdes marked. Cliffs and shit. Not sure how interesting it’d be.

I got three tabs of acid for $15 in Slab City and in a fit of reckless stupidity decided to take them all at once on the spot. California has beaches and redwoods and stunning beauty, all of which would've been greatly enhanced by LSD, but I tripped balls in a filthy desert squatter camp full of tweakers and ugly people. My SUV camper was parked next to the Slab City hot spring to play some music, leaving the driver door open and the key inside for any passing lowlife to jump in and steal everything I owned while I was balls-ass naked in a warm muddy pool at the bottom of a ladder. Extreme paranoia set in when some scrawny tattooed hobos showed up trying to distract me with friendly overtures. Never in my life has a feeling of impending disaster been as overwhelming as then. After abruptly driving off I spent the rest of the trip sitting alone in my car staring at a desert full of rubbish in hopeless dismay. A formative travel experience that years later has left me always on guard around people and ready to respond with hostility at any moment, versus good-heartedly seeking friendship or even love and enjoying companionship for what it is.

May help to know what sort of interests you have.

Los Angeles Zoo is fun, if you go you should go in the morning as that's when most of the animals out and about.

Silverlake Flea and Melrose Trading Post always have something interesting if you like vintage and local makers.

Wi Spa for a Korean spa experience to wind down

Museum of Jurassic Technology in Culver City is a cool way to kill three hours or so.

My upcoming itinerary has me in LA for roughly 42 hours in mid-July. Not really looking forward to checking into a $20/night hostel in the South LA hood at 12:30 AM, but it's part of the urban experience. Being homeless for the first night is also an option, though any degree of rest is unlikely in the urban environment with druggies looking to rob a traveler seeking seclusion in the park. Fewer druggies near the beach, which is close by to LAX, but police harassment is more likely. Spending 16 hours as a street vagabond on the West Coast would be a quintessential Americana experience. It's a 26 hour train ride to the shithole town of La Junta Colorado afterwards. From there, public buses go up the Arkansas River to my "home" workplace.

I really like the academy museum

I fish near playa del rey and around sunset some homeless camp on the beach. not a lot of them, seem mostly peaceful. if you want to be more out of sight you could maybe find a spot running into the channel near some boat launch. but, there are skunks and some rats if you go near the rocks.

I enjoyed the Peterson Museum (cars), but you will be wanting the vault access to feel like the trip was worth it, and like everything else in California it's hugely expensive.

Seeing LA in the rear view is the best thing to see in LA

Yeah, lurking around the fringes of the channel seems the likely choice. Only one bridge across the channel, so walking options are very limited. Eventually end up at the Samesun hostel in Santa Monica for the 3 PM check-in, then after checking out make my way back to downtown LA for a 5 PM departure by train.

The California desert is awfully bleak. You might think it's cool if you crave solitude, but being in a landscape almost totally devoid of greenery is very depressing when compared to the fragrant brushy hills and gentle marine breezes of the coast. You smoke weed, then sit in your car and stare into empty space, surrounded by absolute nothingness. Drive aimlessly, burning that $7/gallon California gasoline, and wish for time to go faster, because the day lasts forever when there is nothing but bare brown earth and creosote bush to see.

The best stuff in the LA are the hikes. Go to Sierra Madre and hike Chantry Flats to Sturtevant falls. Switzer falls is an amazing hike. The Mishe Mokwa trail a little further out is insane. Escondido Falls is a good one.

There are a lot of cool underrated things to do in Los Angeles but I won't be telling you about any of them lol

I hope this gave you the dopamine hit you so direly crave.

>Sierra Madre and hike Chantry Flats
Wasn't that closed for like a decade? And then again shortly after it reopened because of the fires last year?
