My god I love the Philippines. I went there in January of this year intending to kick off a half year solo backpacking trip of Asia and wound up staying there until the beginning of May. I absolutely LOVE the country. I stayed and worked in Boracay for most of the time. Maybe two weeks of my stay were split between Manila and Dumaguete, with another two weeks spent in Vietnam and Thailand. I have never been accepted into a culture like I was accepted into the Filipino culture. I was stationed in Okinawa when I was in the Marine Corps and I never even got CLOSE to being accepted by the Okinawan's the way the Filipinos accepted me. They are the absolute nicest people culturally on this planet and I don't say that lightly. Yes, I'm aware of the flaws of the people but still, the majority are great. I was lucky enough to work with Filipinos in nightlife for most of my stay and they were the absolute best people. I would however not recommend living Boracay, just go and visit. I had my own pretty decent apartment on Bulabog road for 20k PHP a month, utilities ran me maybe 4k a month. Cheap to live in paradise, but the food quality isn't great, shopping is a big hassle, and overall living can get a little boring especially with the amount of partying I was doing. Plus the club scene isn't really awesome over there, the only city like club is Club Galaxy which lost it's flavor for me quickly. If I was working a club it was almost always at Epic. I would highly recommend Boracay for a weekend visit, or maybe a week long if you really like the vibe. But living there isn't awesome. If any of you do visit though check out Bar Rewind, it's a really nice speakeasy vibe in Station 2 right next to Pan de Boracay on the main road. I love the country and I regret leaving when I did. I'm thinking of going back in September and relocating to Manila. Feel free to ask me anything about Boracay and it's nightlife, I can give you all the answers.
