I love tacos, tortas, and tequila. Give me one good reason to not visit San Antonio (I've never been to Texas before).
All of those things you love are originally from Mexico. You can get them cheaper AND better in Mexico.

>>2874090Not OP, but to play devil's advocate, Mexico is also incredibly dangerous throughout. If these are what you want, wouldn't it be worth it to pay a bit more and know you aren't risking getting sacrificed to Guadalupe?
>>2874095guanajuato state isn't dangerous and nobody thinks to go there and the food is delicious just stay in san miguel de allende, its a tourist trap but its cute and safe and you have easy driving access (you will need a car or a driver) to get to the various neighboring towns like leon and guanajuato and irapuato in such of street food.
>>2874096Do you have any relatively safe Mexico recommendations that don't require cars? I'm an American and am already burnt out on car culture. I'd rather get an Airbnb somewhere and be close enough to things to walk around. Ideally somewhere with a boxing gym I can train at and/or friendly young people to hang out with. Maybe meet some girls. For reference I'm in my late 20's, will be in my early 30's soon, though I definitely look younger and could blend in
>>2874096To follow up, If you're saying those are great spots to visit I guess the car stuff could be worked around if there is decent access to affordable reliable driver services, like uber or something
>>2874094You really thought I wouldn't click the link and read the article? The article says that multiple different countries used the same name to describe multiple different things independent of each other. It doesn't even matter who used the name first, a Mexican sandwich clearly isn't the same thing as an Italian cake.
>>2874098just rent a car anon, it won't be that bad>>2874100I mean you might find a local driver if you really don't want to drive yourself. And they might know where to get the stuff you specifically want to see or eat.
>>2874101I did not, in fact, expect you to click the link
San Antonio has this romantic image—Riverwalk, Alamo, other old missions, but in reality most of it is dusty Texas suburban sprawl, lots of military bases, freeways, rednecks and Chicanos. It’s not Mexico though you’re just a few hours drive from the border. San Antonio-Austin-Hill Country is the most interesting region of Texas and worth a trip.
>>2874090False. American street tacos are better than Mexican street tacos, because Mexican tacos are traditionally prepared with a skimpy portion of random cow scraps, while Americans demand a more generous serving of quality beef. >>2874072You can take a bus from San Antonio to Monterrey, a city with a spectacular mountain backdrop. They are famous for their spit-roasted baby goat, cabrita asada or something like that. Monterrey is quasi First World with its prices, but you can get a lot of fine food there. The traffic is awful on the outskirts, which are very grungy and industrial. But the old historic center is quaint, a little rundown. Also, if you are a tall gringo, you can have a lot of luck with the dating apps. You might not even have to pay for a room, kek. >>2874095It's not incredibly dangerous to be on foot in the big cities. It's rare that you'll even be approached, and if you are you just ignore them and keep going. Driving through the backcountry villages can be very sketchy, however. You have no idea what kind of evil shit just happened, and nobody's gonna tell you, but you can sense the menace, like half the adult male population wants to kill the hijos de puta who left Xavier's disemboweled corpse on the roadside last Tuesday.
