What is the New Orleans of your country?I need a backup plan for incase America really shits the bed.Must:Good weatherBe a proper cityBe in a stable liberal countryBe cool and fun like New OrleansPreferably speaks English or French.I'm serious. I need another city like New Orleans.
>>2878992cringe
>New Orleans>Good weatherLolwut?
>>2878995New Orleans has great weather about 8 months out of the year. Not too bad.
>>2878992New Orleans is a shithole. It's genuinely not difficult to find somewhere nicer to live unless you're in Louisiana, which is just an awful state to live in.
>>2878998Let me guess, you're scared of "crime" (black people)?I need a place with soul and culture. if hiding in a suburb your whole life is good enough for you then go right ahead.
>>2879001>Good weather>Be a proper city>Be in a stable liberal country>Be cool and fun like New Orleans>Preferably speaks English or French.Go to India sir we very good weather we proper we stable we liberal we have space program sir we cool and fun sir we speak the english sir we dark skin and soul and culture and BBC just like black people sir I swear it sir come and see sir
>>2878996You must love humidity, thunderstorms and gray winter rain if you think NOLA weather is great. >>2879001>if I love them and show kindness to them, they won't hurt me!White liberal women literally walk the streets believing this shit. You can find plenty of soul and culture at a bluegrass festival, but what you won't find is the "culture" of bumping and grinding in the sweaty tropical heat, so evidently that's a dealbreaker for you.
Bait used to be believable.
>>2879043I have a theory that all of you people claim to be scared of crime but in actuality you just use it as a convenient excuse to be racist. But it's fine. You're the one living an uninteresting life.
>>2878996New Orleans is unbearably hot and humid for most of the year, being located directly in the middle of a muggy swamp. It rains almost every single day, usually with heavy storming, and they get hit by at least three hurricanes every summer. If there is a place with worse weather than New Orleans, I surely cannot think of it.
Anyways, to answer your question, OP: Martinique or Reunion would probably be your best bets.
>>2879131I appreciate finally getting a real answer. Those aren't cities tho
>>2879130Don't tell me about New Orleans weather. I live here. We get a solid 8 months of good weather.
>>2879001>Let me guess, you're scared of "crime" (black people)?Yes, not a big fan. And neither are you, or else you'd be living in Baton Rouge.> if hiding in a suburb your whole life is good enough for you then go right aheadYou almost certainly live in Metairie or Kenner, because you are quite reasonably a pussy.>I need a place with soul and cultureBoston, Atlanta, NYC
>>2878992If you’re serious, then some port city in the Caribbean or Latin America with a large black population. English or French speaking means Kingston or Port au Prince but that’s even more violent than NO. Probably some Spanish speaking city, which tracks as New Orleans was a Spanish colonial city almost as long as French. Great food, music, architecture, tropical climate, hurricanes, bugs, murders—take your pick. Santo Domingo, San Juan, some Colombian or Venezuelan port, even Havana.
>>2878992>Good weatherLol
>>2879135>I live here.So do I. I live in the French Quarter. We do not have good weather. You are seriously delusional if you think otherwise.
>>2879139The Marigny.I don't like crime but it's not even close to being a deal breaker.>>2879186Agree to disagree I guess. How do you like living in the Quarter?
>>2879196I love the culture and atmosphere here. The weather and the crime, not so much.
>>2879225If we get the crime down a few notches this town would be the next big thing. It has everything that urbanist nerds like. I have no idea why everyone is sleeping on New Orleans.Maybe someday. But then again, crime keeps the boring people out and the houses cheap.
>>2879239I grew up in Baton Rouge and for me and my friends, a regular part of the New Orleans experience was getting mugged or your car broken into, not to mention harassed and shaken down by corrupt NOPD. I live far away now and haven’t been back post Katrina but do tourists get jumped on a regular basis? In NYC, crime is mostly a thing in certain outer borough neighborhoods and even in Detroit you have to go looking for trouble or be really unlucky. Louisiana always seemed like mayhem could break out anytime anywhere.
>>2879261My truck got broken into once. That's been my only real experience with crime. Katrina was before my time so I can't say for sure, but I feel like it's gotten a lot better since then. I've been told that the Marigny and Bywater used to be rough. They're pretty nice neighborhoods nowadays.I'm also huge so I'm not a likely target for crime. Probably has something to do with it.
>>2879239>I have no idea why everyone is sleeping on New Orleans.Because of the crime and lack of opportunities for yuppies. Are you a personal injury attorney? Doctor? In the line of succession of a successful family business? If the answer to that is No, the state tells you to go fuck yourself. We see this cycle every decade or so. Subsidies bring in X industry enamored with the romance of the bayou and Crescent City. Professionals from Tulane, LSU, and out of state hop on. The workers and companies grow disillusioned with the basket case of the state and city and low quality of life. They fuck off after 10-15 years. This happened with film. This happened with tech. This even happened with petroleum, since a lot of those guys fucked off to Houston.New Orleans should be the Chicago of the South, but it is such a corrupt, dysfunctional shithole that Houston, DFW and Atlanta slurp up most of its young professionals, since there are very few professional pipelines.
>>2879280>New Orleans should be the Chicago of the SouthIt’s the Detroit of the South, the southernmost Rust Belt city, and it’s been on a long slow decline since the late 19th century when it was the wealthiest city in the South. Railroads, highways and airlines made shipping less vital and even though it’s still a major port there’s no need for masses of labor to load and unload ships. Shipbuilding is all but dead. The petrochemical industry comes with a ruinous environmental cost and is slowly fading. The next big hurricane will hit sooner or later. You can’t keep a city going on charm and tourism. Global capital doesn’t want to deal with banana republic corruption and poor education. It’s one of America’s few great cities but will always be a hot mess.
