Why do you stop at Missoula and not go the extra 3 hours to see Glaicer. There's nothing in Missoula worth seeing on its own besides the smoke jumper museum.
I've done every place on your itinerary. I personally would not do Utah unless you're going the first week of June. They get horrid weather in the summer. July and August are unbearable. I would stick to the coast and the mountains. Cruise all the way up route 1 from LA to SF, do Muir woods, cut over to Yosemite. Go to Lake Tahoe. Do Lassen Volcanic, Mount Shasta, Crater lake, Bend, Mount Hood, do the waterfalls on the hood river(Multnomah falls), then cruise all the way back down route 1.
>>2879902Planning to go second week of June, also am Australian, if that changes things>>2879823That's ultimately what I want to do, I just feel like I'm biting off more than I can chew
>>2879922Honestly it's worth it, even if you're just driving through. The Going to the Sun Road should be open by mid June, we had a shit winter with no snow. You don't even have to hike if you dont want to, you can drive up 93 from Missoula, enter the park on the West Entrance and take the GTTS out to the east, then drive down the front to Bozeman.
I'm Aussie, me n a mate did a similar route last year in summer. Absolutely deluxe. Ours was the other way around to yours though. The small towns are incredible. Make sure to go through Grants Pass OR, and Mt Vernon WA. Mt Hood just near Portland is great too, the town of Sandy is so much fun.Go up to Seattle, then head further north for the North Cascades NP. On the way over definitely go through Coeur d'Alene in Idaho for a stop over. Sequoia NP is really cool, big ass trees. Yosemite was alright, good views, but if you haven't booked ahead you won't be able to camp there. We camped up at Saddlebag Lake which had snow in July, super cool.Aside from that, just have fun. We camped almost every night aside from a few when we needed a shower. The locals are typically really friendly once they realise you're from another country. Beers are cheap.
>>2879970holy shit that road looks incredible, there's no way I'm missing that. driving the N222 douro valley was one of the best things i've ever seen but GTTS looks like it mogs it
Death Valley is epic but I can’t imagine going there in the summer. You’ll see enough desert scenery as it is but if you’re ever around in the colder months it’s worth it, especially if there’s a superbloom of desert flowers.
