>>2879822>90k yen for 90 minutesokay that's a little bit too much lol
>>2879826Even at so-called ultra-luxury soaplands, it probably wouldn’t cost more than 60,000 yen for two hours.
how we holding up, waitbros?15 days for me
>>2879837I had a bit of a mental breakdown and have impulse booked a flight for next week with nothing else sorted.
>>28798372 months and pretty hyped. I'll be able to reserve tickets for some activities within a couple weeks and I need to get a general idea of what to do in a couple districs so I don't accidentally wander residential zones for hours.

>>2879847Yeah you can set up a yen specific wallet like we did, load it with wonga and set it as your default, or it will just auto convert the currency from dollars or whatever you use.you might be able to load up your wallet with yen when the conversion rate is good and save yourself some money I guess
>>28798372 months til I go over there for a year to learn jp
>>2879837Just booked few hours ago. >first time>more than 4 weeksI am ready to feel alone and eat cheap ramen

>>2879909Trannycord for a thread? This makes no sense
>>2879868Yes, that's exactly what I did.I have roughly 100k yen for a 10 day escapade with hotels paid off. I hope that's enough, but at least I have more certainty I won't have to reinvest the amount in case of a fuck up with the platform.
>>2879913It's not solely for the thread, it's just a bunch of people who are 4chan or 4chan adjacent in Japan. I joined the same discord 3 years ago via a link on JP general and it's been a consistent source of people to hang out with, go to events, advice, help, etc. Also no trannies. Or women
>>2879837>september kill me, this summer is going to be so awful
Kinda want to get an opinion I was talking to this girl at a girl bar. only english speaking girl and I pretty much hung out with her the entire night. She goes to me and says let me walk you back to your hotel we walk to the hotel turns and says bye and rides off on her bike home. Is this like a common thing that happens?
>>2879940without knowing the full context, she was probably waiting for you to make the movewomen are weird, she kinda made the first move walking with you, but most women wont make the "final" move
>>2879853Please cancel your ticket and go somewhere else
>>2879951Please delete your post and go to another thread
>>2879950The thing is there wasn't like time to make the move? we were talking, we went to the the hotel i found the door and she literally hopped on the bike, said bye and left with out any small talk. i told her ill be back wensday when she works again.. I guess make the move then if it happens.
>>2879837October 2027>終わりだ
>>2879951oh shit, you might see an awkward white guy walking around. sorry man
>>2879955If you had made a move, she probably would have accused you of rape. she walked you back to the hotel out of the kindness of her heart. It depends on the bar, but many of the girls who work part-time at hostess bars are actually quite serious and responsible. Many of them work at boutiques or beauty salons during the day and are earnestly striving to eventually open their own shops.
>>2879990Yea she told me she was saving money for pilots license. So my instincts were correct that she generally was just being nice.

what do you guys carry around with you? like a backpack or one of those shoulder bags?i feel like having a backpack would be nice to hold everything (trash, rechargable battery, goshuincho, umbrella) etc etc, but does walking around with a backpack all day get annoying?also shoulder bags look kinda...gay? am i just a boomer and are these fine now, they just dont seem to hold much of anything besides wallet/passport/yenthoughts?
>>2880013I use a backpack. i keep a water bottle, phone charger, umbrella, passport, some meds. its light enough to not be annoying.
>>2880013backpack when shopping and a very small chest bag for passport, money etc.
>>2880013backpacks are a pain in the ass when you sit down on a train, bus or even a restaurant in Japan. With a shoulder bag you can just shift it to the front when you sit down. you also could be bumping your pack into people without noticing on a crowded train. I'd assume it's pretty annoying since most Japanese don't wear one. This is my second time i came to Japan in years with a backpack and it sucked so I immediately bought a shoulder bag to replace remembering back to why i switched to a shoulder bag all those years ago when i visited. I don't know if theres still the same stigma in Japan as a decade ago, but wearing a backpack made you also look like an otaku or a tourist. マジうざい死ね外人
>>2880013If you're planning to visit Japan in June or later, we recommend using a backpack, as the following items are essential when you're out and about: handheld fan, neck cooler, folding umbrella, cooling towel, sweat-wiping wipes, bottle cooler, salt candy, sunscreen, sunglasses, and a change of clothes.
>>2880036On crowded trains and buses, it is basic etiquette to hold your backpack in front of you.
>>2880038my point is its just must easier for you and everyone else to have a shoulder bag
>>2880037I will be in june and july, thanks! I will mostly only carry the uniqlo beltbag, which I will just put on the shoulder on my front. I will maybe buy an umbrella. And will get myself some linen trousers, shirt will be from uniqlo. Later one I will probably get some trousers from uniqlo.

What about drifting school in Tokyo - matenro drift racing? Can they actually teach me to drive those beasts? Trainer has common break pedal so he can always take a control so no risk of crashing?
>>2880037i know youre being sarcastic butthe one thing im not worried about is the weather, im going in september, but i live in the south USso the awful swamp humidity heat that japan has is the same here or worse, and i like being hot rather than coldso looks like ill take a backpack and a shoulder/chest bag and just swap depending on what im doing, still think ill look like a fruit with one but oh well
>>2880075NTA but summer Japan mogs summer Florida is uncomfortable weather. It’s brutal
>>2879821https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QEBRNGedG8c
>>2879821If I go back, I feel like I should learn some Japanese. I'm too much of an empathetic pussy, so I don't like that I'm imposing my English upon them when I should know a little Japanese. I still got by fine, but it doesn't remove the feeling of being an entitled tourist jerk who is probably annoying.
>>2880013If you have a hotel room, why are you walking around with a backpack? How many hours are you going to spend walking around away from your hotel? Eight hours? How far are you straying from your hotel that a train ride can't get you back in like an hour? You don't need a backpack for anything. Your phone and wallet are in your pocket. Your watch is on your wrist. Get a small, disposable umbrella if you know it's going to rain. Never in all my walking around did I need a backpack. You will look like even more of a tourist and have a clunky bag weighing you down with something extra to worry about.
>>287983712 days for me browe are gonna make it
>>2880013I don't think I've ever used one. Unless you are going to do a lot of shopping and don't want to carry the store bags around town or something?
>>2880063no speak ingrish
>>2880013>>2880036I think I'll make it a priority to look for a sling bag when shopping.I have one which came as a gift for fucking inFamous 2 for the PS3, kek, and I've been using it ever since, as I can't find any worthy replacement because they're all small as shit and you can barely fit a small bottle in them. I don't wanna risk damaging or losing mine in a trip overseas, as it is the best casual bag I've ever owned.>マジうざい死ね外人Then again, you're a dumb tourist, it shouldn't be a problem to look the part as long as you're not a hassle to people. You can always retread to your place to dress up properly if you go out at night to visit bars.
>>2880086You should. Only been there twice so far and I no longer want to visit if learning Japanese isn’t part of my plan which it now is. It’s a place that feels like I’ll only experience a small fraction of it if I refuse to learn the language
>>2879821Any anons have an opinion of this itinerary?>land in tokyo january 3rd, sleep>shinkansen to osaka the next day, 1-2 days in osaka just doing himeji and taking it easy>4th day on to kagawa for 4-5 days, hit ritsurin and the other highlights>then ehime for 4-5 days, same plan>day 14/15 domestic flight back to tokyo>leave on day 18/19 after chill time hitting less common sites in tokyo, maybe a daytrip to chiba or yokohamaI'd want to spend less than $5K overall so lots of business hotels and not doing a lot of shows or buy-in stuff other than Himeji, Ritsurin and maybe a few art galleries.
Halloween in tokyo osaka or kyoto??
Is this the thread to blog dump 300 lines of autistic green text describing a 9 day trip to Japan I did back in March?
>>2880173>nearly 3 week trip>I'd want to spend less than $5K overallNot happening. You'd basically be homeless in squalor at that budget. Budget AT LEAST $18-19k, just to be safe. And even that's pushing it, honestly.
>>2880161it actually doesn't matter, Japan is full of tourists, they outnumber Japanese people in tourist areas and they carry multiple large suitcases only to replace them with bigger ones in Japan lol
>>2880179you are immensely dense lmao
>>2880179that is absurd unless youre going to tobita every night
>>2880179I've been to Japan before, retard. I'd be going solo this time and last time it was ~$9.5K for two people and that counted some expenses I wouldn't bother with this time (2 nights in a ryokan, reserved shinkansen tickets, premium economy plane tickets)I was asking anons who know what they're talking about their opinion the regions I was going to and trying to have a discussion about Shikoku more generally. Also, Awaji Island? Worth it for a day or two?
How do I go stealth camping in the mountains without getting eaten by a bear?
I'm considering using Takasaki as a base for hiking up a few mountains. It's cheap, conveniently located, and has good access to public transportation. The only problem is that Takasaki seems like a spectacularly boring place to kill a few days and anywhere west of Tokyo like Kofu or Chichibu is 2+ hours away. Is there anything good nearby?
>>2880195>a spectacularly boring place to kill a few daysIf you're using it as a hub for trips elsewhere isn't that what you'd want? Go on a hike, come back tired, lounge around on a quiet evening sipping drinks and snacking on currypan before bed.
>>2880179I spent 3 months in Chiba last year and spent like 8k including flights and lodging.Just don't be a retard with your money and book things in advance.
>>2880198>and book things in advanceYou don't even need to worry about that if you go in January. It's the only month of the year where the country is cheap.
>>2880196I can't do them all on consecutive days so I'll have to spend at least one, more likely two days resting up somewhere. Nagano and Niigata aren't too far away on the shinkansen, but I don't really want to pay 17,000 round trip for fucking Niigata.
>>287983712 Days :DMy plane leaves the day after my graduation ceremony
>>2880201Well as for what to do in Takasaki, if you like hiking and outdoorsy stuff there's the Haruna-ko area. It's like a little piece of Austria that broke off and ran to Japan.
>>2879824Wow you can look up an online dictionary! Sadly it doesn't seem to have helped you understand the word though. So I'll help you out. So it it that you don't understand the words you are saying, or that you don't even think before typing?

>>2880173If you're immedately going to Osaka shouldn't you just get the flight to Kansai International Airport?
>>2880178Yes it is, go right ahead Anon
>>2880178You will get a few people complain and some not believe you.But if they are fun stories, there will definitely be a bunch of us that enjoy the read.
>>2880216Since I can't sleep on planes and I'd be sitting for hours anyways I'd rather just get into the country and have decent night's sleep, then do the shinkansen the next day.
>>2879837Leaving in 8 days, first time
>>2880225?they have beds in osaka you know?why not just land in osaka...go to sleep there and start your day where you wanna be anyway?anon?
>>2880229It's 19-21 hours to get to Osaka but just 12 to get to Tokyo from where I live.
>>2880190>I'd be going solo this time and last time it was ~$9.5K for two peopleListen, don't even bother with Japan if you're this destitute. Japan is an expensive first world country. Maybe try Cambodia or something if you're a begpacker.
>>2880249my 3 week trip was around 5k, perfectly reasonable
>>2880254You were a begpacker. You ate out of the trash and slept on the ground. That's not reasonable. Only the lowliest poorfag scum could live like you.
>>2880255>>2880249Look, we get it. You're coping that you don't know enough Japanese to book without gaijin tax, but that doesn't apply to everyone. How about ya sit down while the real travelers are talking alright gup?
>>2880255This retarded gatekeeping method doesn't work if the person has already travelled there.

I will wait i wont go to Japan until i learn the language it would be embarrassing to go without knowing anything it makes me laugh how Americans think they can go to foreign countries and demand that others learn their language yet they dont make an effort to learn another language themselves thats why they are all obese
There was just an earthquake in Tokyo.
>>2880269How bad was it?

>>2880268Not to defend american retardation (especially since english isn't even "their" language) but english is the lingua franca and has been since before you were born. Not being able to communicate atleast at a basic level in english in this century is an indication of insufficient education regardless of where in the world you come from.

>>2880279I said insufficient education. Not less educated. Not learning english at any point in the past 30 years actively puts you at a disadvantage in the global community. That the government in japan is so lax about it in a world as interconnected as it is now is simply dumb.
>>2879821Bros, I'm going to Japan for the first time in the second the half of September/early October for 21 days with the missus. Rate my travel plan:>day 1: arrive in Tokyo, sleep>day 2-3: Kanazawa>day 4-5: Takayama>day 6-14: Nagoya and Osaka, Nara, Kinosaki>day 14-16: dunno maybe Shikoku or Fukuoka>day 17-21: TokyoAnything i should skip?I really want to visit Kumamoto and Mount Aso, but not sure if I can fit it due to our budget, time constraints and typhoon season in the south.
>>2880285Meanwhile only a small fraction of Chinese know English and they’ll be number one soon. Woops!
on my flight back to LA right now after spending 7 months living in Fukuoka for a 6 month language school term. Well, it was actually 1 year long but I decided to leave after the first half for various reasons. I'm gonna do a small blog.I definitely now understand the "I'll visit but not live there" crowd as before I was one of the people who couldn't relate to that and just wanted to live there no matter what. Whilst Japan definitely has a permanent charm in a lot of little ways, like food, safety, transportation, amenities etc, the charm of actually living your life there is very different. Being a foreigner is such a big headache nowadays especially with the anti foreigner sentiment going on now. I'm a 6'0 in shape white guy for reference so I probably got the better treatment. You can't shake off that feeling of walking into a place and feeling like you stick the fuck out because yes you do no matter how much you think you dont. The unspokenness of the people is also very frustrating especially when you get to the level (both socially and language wise) to understand what they are really saying or suggesting to you.I have so much more to rant about but I would say I had a great experience, however it is NOT a place to live long term. I can't imagine the gaijins who got married or had a kid and are trying to integrate (or dealing with a divorce which is great entertainment on r/japanlife). And not to mention just how many jeets and south east asians they are letting into the country. There is no chance that will work out in the long term.
>>2880304Yes, that will magically change the lingua franca from a logical alphabet one to an overly complicated, primitive pictogram based one that not even the majority of its native population has proper mastery of.
>>2880306>r/japanlifeDid you even do nanpa? You sound like a beta N5 who got sucked into doomscrolling gaijin bubble content
>>2880306Wait so you abandoned your schooling early due to silent discrimination to run back home, and you’re also discriminating against people from other countries? Sounds like you got filtered hard as a pussy boy chief. Welcome home
All right, which one? Flight is in 4 days. Row 42 on the left should be a no-brainer, BUT partial window view. Also a tad too close to toilets. Row 34 is the next best thing I guess.
>>2880293plan sounds alrght, I'd skip on Shikoku since its not accessible via Shinkansen
>>2880315any C D G or H
>>2880317Going for the aisle extra room, I assume. Makes sense, though you have to deal with retards bumping into you every 4 minutes. I guess I could take C42, and if nobody takes A42 or B42, I'll have all that extra room for me and can still enjoy (partial) window view whenever I want. And if someone takes those seats, well I still have the aisle extra room.I like this strategy.
>>2880293>>2880316also I'd suggest spending couple first days in Tokyo instead of going straight into the country on the second day, at least for me first days were a bit like in a dream because everything is so different and I had to get accustomed to so many strange little things, on your second day you might still feel jetlagged and tired after the flight
