Do I have that right? Not terrible for the cost of a 60 day visa being about 35 euro but this kinda kills the reason to have thailand on the list of SEA countries to cycle through.

Can confirm. I lived in an expensive west coast city and what it costed me to live like a hermit there is pretty much the same as what I spend actively traveling around Asia while staying in modest, but not bottom of the barrel, accomodations.
