Is Afghanistan any good?

Good for what? You can't expect such a poor country to have a glut of businesses catering to those with disposable income. The few businesses that are available likely charge much higher prices than South Asia due to Afghanistan's isolation. Go to Nepal instead if you want to experience impoverished mountain life.
>Nepal is green, Afghanistan is desolate
>Nepal is unarmed, Afghanistan is full of Taliban kooks
>Nepal loves America, Afghanistan hates America
>Nepal has hotels in every village, Afghanistan you're sleeping on some flea-ridden dirt floor
>Nepal has alcohol and cannabis, Afghanistan has only Taliban
>Nepal is tolerant Hindu, Afghanistan is hardline Muslim

Ask Lord Miles, he got arrested by the Taliban for eight months. They treated him breddy gud from what he wrote.

I travelled in adjacent regions, that's all I can say.

It's like the stans in that if you rent a vehicle, trusted guide, have heaps of time (and hence heaps of money) you can taxi around the place visiting undeveloped tourist sites, and largely avoid Afghanistan's undeveloped people.

To try and travel independently in the region, which I did, is right up the hard end. It's not an Arabic country dari and parsi are both Persian languages, digital literacy and general literacy are very low so you will encounter people who you simply can't communicate with at all.

And many locals are total barbarians even by local standards, who will harass you, poker through your belongings, molest you, stalking you, it's like India or Alabama in that there's a huge underclass of troglodytes everyone in the county just has to try to avoid. And being a foreigner you're a magnet for trouble. Drug related crime is high as well. So trying to hitch hike, travel local, you can do it but it requires very high level social skills.

Islamic countries, everyone knows the basics. But then there are sectarian issues in afghanistan, sensitivities about Islamic factions which as a non Muslim you won't even have the vaguest understanding of. So you can't just imitate local Muslim custom because unbeknown to you it's factional.

And I'm sure there will be a bunch of people who will say they just backpacked afghanistan and everyone was really nice etc etc. They probably did, but you should never listen to these people because they don't have sufficient understanding of their own anecdotal experiences.

They gave him top-notch food for $5 per day, let him stay in a nice apartment with a lock on the outside for free, gave him wholesome pirated DVD movies to watch, and he was content to remain in "prison" forever.

>illiterates can't communicate with foreigners because they are too low IQ to understand hints and suggestions
I experienced this problem in India on multiple occasions.

Bored village men shit-testing the newcomer to see how he reacts is the reason why most coomers are chickenshit and stay only in the big cities.

>Lord Miles
Such a pity that /ourguy/ real/trv/ler ended up being a two-bit scammer on Polymarket.
