Don't know the ins and outs of immigration as an Aussie citizen or how it compares with Canada however from my mates who are doing PR or relationship residency it is incredibly expensive (think $30k+) and has prohibitively obnoxious amounts of paperwork if you want to stay here long term.
Great country though, lots of specialised work in the main cities and if you leave the city the landscape is unique to pretty much anywhere else in the world. The government isn't perfect but compared to many other places we've got it pretty good I think
