I got offered work in Japan several times when I was a hotel manager. But when I investigated it Japan's visa system is possibly the worst in the world, designed exclusively for exploiting young foreign workers. And I've worked in maybe 6 counties, and half my staff were international so I've got a good bead on this.

With work visas what you're really looking for is
A. Does the visa entitle you to work for any employer. If you're tied to a single employer that's a recipe for abuse, wage theft and exploitation. It means the employer has already refused to pay enough to attract workers with full work rights, or is involved in serious labour law violations.
B. Parity of tax/ services. A major issue is counties which tax migrant workers at a high general rate, to pay for services migrants can't access. Japan levies a number of unfair taxes against young people and workers, so you're looking at losing maybe 40% of your income upfront to the Japanese government, for services which you can never access, i think the residency permit cap just went up a staggering 30-fold.
C. Return on investment. As you work for longer, provide more value to local business, is your return on that increasing or decreasing over time.
The worst possible system is the one which forces migrants to leave, reapply, leave, reapply denying migrants who might live in Japan ten years from leasing a flat, starting a business, they reserve the right to rip everything you invested in from your hands with no justification. Stealing.

Japan's labour crisis is driven by third world industrial conditions in a developed county, workers are desperate to flee and the majority of migrants are being brought in to prop up the system local workers are fleeing from. It's a total lobster pot. Fuck Japan.

Companies that claim the right to use your image. The answer is just no. Never let them do it. You have no control over how your image is used and no legal rights, you could find your face on a late night add for sex services, or to scam people into buying non-existent products. Japan is notorious for abusing the image of foreign workers for advertising without consent. This goes beyond what would generally be called white monkey work.

Withholding your salary. They will only pay you after thefirst six months. Yea right. Cancel my visa after 5, 5 months free labour.

The only way to go about this is to be a registered contractor of a company registered in OECD. They must pay you, and vouch for your employer in country, who you work for as an advisor. Realistically you do the exact same job but you get a business visa to provide a commercial service, and are not "a worker"
