Best attractions in Athens?
>>2887121There's really nothing there except the acropolis. Stay nearby and just walk around it twice a day
>>2887121>Best attractions in Athens?only for knowers
>>2887121the acropolis and museum <3
Athens has to be one of the most ugly and depressing looking cities in Europe. Outside of the Acropolis it's nothing but concrete dystopia.
>>2887364Jeffrey Epstein shit

>>2887121Too much vandalism and graffiti
>>2887631You're joking right? Absolute fucking idiot lol
>>2887121Lived in Athens 17 years ago, in no particular order:Acropolis obviouslyTemple of Zeus (Hadrians arch nextdoor)LykabetusKolonaki has a market (fridays? or was it Saturdays? I don't remember) and is itself a very nice walk full of upscale boutiques, cafes and shade. The Botanical gardens are lovely in spring, early fall and (very)early summer. Pompeion, Kerameikos Museum and its nearby churchSyntagma squareAntonis Metro parkThere's a HUGE amount of open air theaters in Athens and the surrounding areas, see if there are any shows around your visit. Byzantine and Christian Museum Church of Saint Nicholas in pefkakia, if you walk there from Panepistimio it's not too far and the walk is niceLyceum of AristotleParliamentNumismatic MuseumNational Archeological MuseumZappeionTorn StoneGreek Naval museum across from PiraeusBenaki MuseumVarvakios for some good stuffDipylonTemple of Hephaestus, Ares, the Agora of ancient Athens and the painted stoaRight off of Monastiraki station/square are some ruins from Roman Athens, the Basilica of Megali PanagiaMetro Church of the Annunciation First modern Olympic StadiumMuseums of the University of Athens are great, they have 3 science museums near the university of Philosophy
>>2891040TrueBut that's pretty much every European city save for their historical districts. Even Reykjavik had some graffiti last time I was there.
>>2887434It's pretty much their only city. Their next biggest city is Thessalonki and it's ****tiny****, there are barely 1m in the surrounding area. I live in a backwater state of the US today and our biggest city (which is 4th rate and not even worth mentioning by national standards) is larger without even trying. They're not supposed to be urban, they're allowed to have problems. And I can think of far worse cities and capitals in Europe to visit in any direction.
>>2887459Capitals:>all of former Yugoslavia>Tirane>Sofia>Chisinau>Vilnius>MinskNot capitals:It's a very long list but Belfast is probably the most depressing city I have ever had the misfortune of having to work in.
>>2891221None of those are true capitals because they are all non countries, really just backwoods provinces
>>2891226flyover countries
>>2891226>>2891232>of those are true capitalsOh wait, no they are, your fantasy is shit lol. >moving that goalpostAnd those were just the capitals, there's tons and tons of just regular cities.
>>2891233>>2891233Its not. Athens , outside of the acropolis area which is very nice, is a shithole. Thats why people go to Athens for 1 or 2 days then leave. It looks like this in every direction from the acropolis >>2887628
>>2891238>Its not.>name worse cities>no not those cites they don't countIt is moving goalposts. You asked for cities that were worse, I named them, you whined. >outside of the acropolis area which is very niceWhat is the "acropolis area"?? Kolonaki is great, I lived there for 6 months, Neapoli, Dexameni, fine and pleasantly walkable. All about a half hours walk from the Acropolis, is that its area? Are you trying to say the city center is very nice? Are you suggesting many cities have urban sprawl and the residential neighborhoods that make it up are great generally attractions?? I don't really go to Mexico city to visit Tlanepantla, I go there to see Chapultepec. I don't go to New York to stroll down Ridgewood I go there to see the Statue of Liberty. Urban sprawl is for living, not for visiting. It is not supposed to be interesting.
>>2891321Athens is far worse than any city you named
>>2891326>it is tooCounterpoint: nuh-uh
>>2891238Some people (tourists) like this kind of vibe. I don't know what to call it. Disorderly? Hipster? Vibrant? Tightly packed? It's the opposite of many clean western eu metropolises. I agree with the anon that the concrete jungle said feels different when you're at ground level.
>>2887121go to exarcheia for the bars>>2887461its prostitutes from russia
>>2887628at least you nigger dont use ai slop but instead will do shit photoshop which is refreshing
>>2891361No one likes the Athens packed in like sardines in a concrete box vibe
>>2891545It's painfully obvious you have never been to Athens and judging it from those pics taken with weird lenses that the same 2 Albanian anons spam everywhere
>>2891545Again, it's different from below. Can even be comfy if you're into that vibe
>>2891709How? Hot, drug infested, crowded, dirty, poluted air, full of old decrepit people, no greenery,,,,,,bbbbut some people like that?
>>2891730There's greenery if you're not in some slum with nothing but commie blocks, and if it gets to that point it's more your fault than theirs.
>>289209495% of Athens is a slum with no greenery
>>2892150prove it>and if it gets to that point it's more your fault than theirs.why are you going into the residential non-touristy part as a tourist anyway? Again, you guys keep pointing to parts where locals live in and is without any attractions in a thread discussing the best attractions in Athens in a board about travel. Why are you doing this? Literally every large city has crappy boring residential areas where nothing is going on except locals living there.
>>2892161Why are you denying this?>>2887628
>>2892162Why aren't you answering my question?? Why aren't you proving it? Why are you going off topic?
>>289215095% of 4chan is just shitposts with no value so why are you here?
>>2892150There's basically a mini national park with hills and woodland right in the middle of the city lol, what other city has a big natural area like that right in the heart of the city?
>>2892498That's where this picture was taken from>>2887628 it looks like that in every direction. Outside the acropolis 99.9% concrete with no green
>>2892580You.are.photographing.roofs.I have a hard time finding an intersection that doesn't have trees lining the road on both sides in every road leading from it as far as you can see. And pic related, the Pynx hill is just west of the Acropolis and no it does not look like your photograph. All the circled areas are larger parks, not pictured are the innumerable small parks and plazas all around the city. In fact even your photograph has trees in it. And I'd like to see proof it is Athens, as in the streets pictured, and not one of the other cities in its metro area.
>>2892580>That's where this picture was taken fromNo, THIS PICTURE is the google street view from that parkhttps://maps.app.goo.gl/QUxn16MAcEfnrgG57

>>2892623>>2892619>>2892580This is an urban street in athenshttps://maps.app.goo.gl/vnVcbYo6DswAMb3S6
>>2892624>>2892623>>2892619>>2892580This is as bad as it getshttps://maps.app.goo.gl/RgssNvVGoLeat7FZ9If you go one way it's bare apartment building go another it's trees on either side. Turn around it's an alley. All cities havve bad parts and the residential streets are not meant to be pretty, they are the back alleys and sprawl where people live. It is not just concrete. It is concrete and street, and windows and shops and people living their lives, and yes they make parks, and they make attractions, and schools, and soccer fields, and gyms, and everything else people want in their lives. You are saying you hate a caricature of a city. Not the city itself. You dislike one particular aspect and hold it as if it was the whole thing. If you want an example of terrible urban residential sprawl look at Belfast.
>>2892628>If you want an example of terrible urban residential sprawl look at Belfast.https://maps.app.goo.gl/qqhAheiy9fuQVp5J6This is what you pretend Athens is. But this is also not where you go if you're visiting.
>>2892623>>2892624>>2892628These look comfy. I've yet to visit Greece, but pictures I've seen make it look more like an Asian city than a European city.
>>2892630Yes, that feel what I was trying to describe in a previous post. When I went to Paris for example I was feeling kinda alienated. Those huge Parisian streets and parks , the small balconies, the buildings with facades that end on the pavement without an open ground floor etc are great to look at but they give off a totally different vibe compared to some tightly packed neighborhood.
>>2892628This>>2892629 is much better than Athens
>>2892498Montreal has that too
