Hi guys, so, im spending a week in the scottish capital on my on. The thing i love the most is walking around, go to books shops and sitting in a good coffe joint. Im single in my 20s, would love to socialize. Any recommendations? Thanks!
It's a great city for bookshops and coffee shops. Plenty everywhere. You can also climb Arthur's Seat as a fun half day activity.
If you're interested in castles or medieval architecture at all I will say that Stirling is less than an hours ride on the train and has a much bigger castle with better views around it if you fancy getting out for a day, though Stirling itself is basically a smaller, sadder Edinburgh.
Genuinely beautiful city but there's almost no locals at all there. Scotland's a very interesting place demographically, almost all of its young people go to England and those who stay are pretty fierce (read annoying) about 'Glasgae' and go a bit overboard with the whole Scots thing. The majority of the country's population all live along a central belt that's all within an hour of Edinburgh so unironically, hang out in Falkirk or something for an afternoon.
>>2891081I’d wanna see it during the fall.
>>2891081... lonely planet's book for the city?
>>2891081I did the solo-Edinburgh thing many years back. I'd say spend 1 day doing the Royal Mile and Edinburgh Castle just to get that of the way. I think they're interesting, even if it's super touristy and full of "Scott-Slop" crap in the shops. Honestly, there's a LOT of Scott-Slop throughout the whole city and it robs the place of whatever authentic charm it might still have.Calton Hill is nice though and gets my recommendation. I'm pretty fit, so I had no trouble jumping up onto the National Monument of Scotland when I was there. I saw some lone scandinavian looking dude with a bulky camera awkwardly looking at the ledge and gauging if he could make the jump. I went over and extended my hand and pulled him up. In broken English, he said "Thank you. You are good person."It's the only time anyone has ever said that to me, so I try to remind myself of him whenever I feel depressed.Anyways, there's also a heart-shaped brick next to St. Giles' Cathedral you can spit on for good luck. Go do that.
