>Flight lands in Beijing, spend 4 nights there>Take another domestic flight from Beijing to Chongqing, spend 4 nights there>Take high speed rail from Chongqing to Hong Kong, spend 5 night there. Fly out of Hong Kong to my home countryAny China anons want to tell me if this trip is feasible? I am seriously considering this for my 2027 international trip.
>>2894918Sounds like a shit trip
>>2894918Of course it's feasible to take mass commercial transportation between three megacities. Only notes are>this doesn't warrant its own thread when we have a China general>Chongqing -> HKG is probably a needlessly long ride
>>2894936>Chongqing -> HKG is probably a needlessly long rideUnless you are an overland nerd its way too far, just flyThat said I hate flying domestically in China, the trains are 100x more comfy
>>2894918That's a totally normal trip. Why wouldn't it be feasible?
>>2894918>the dream is 14 days of pointless transitdo wagies really
>>2894918In my humble opinion, if you want to visit China it's better to pick one contiguous region and stick to it. Instead of faffing around with flights, why not just pick one of the three places and stay there, moving around with trains and buses? A single province of China alone has more to offer to a foreign tourist than many countries. For example, you could take Chongqing as a base and use it to visit Sichuan and one of the bordering provinces, like Guizhou or Hunan. There's more than enough there to fill a 12 days trip, it will be less expensive, and you won't spend half of your time in China in planes or airports or trains to the airport.
>>2894961I think people have a fantasy about the high speed rail like its going to be this really cool futuristic experience. But when you're inside it it's just a regular train ride, except shorter. It doesn't feel futuristic and it doesn't even feel fast. Maybe it is, but the experience of riding it is underwhelming
>>2894971Wanting to try HSR in China is fine, but Chongqing>HK seems like a ridiculously long trip. Why not go to Chengdu instead? I think the main problem with OP's itinerary is that it's not organic at all, it's like a China highlights reel that has you visiting three cities which are thousands of kms apart while he could instead just pick any region of China and spend his 14 days having a sovlful trip around 1-2 provinces instead.
>>2894918>visiting China without going on Mount Taismdh
>>2894981I went to Mount Emei instead, is that ok?
>>2894961Agreed. Or he could use Beijing as a base and visit Datong, Taishan, Xi'an. Or HK as a base and visit Shenzhen, Guangzhou, Macau, Huizhou. If you're never going to go back to China again you can do the long one, but I think if you will go back ever or you want to be more relaxed and see if you like the general vibe or not just stay in one region
>always want to go to China>would do the 144hr visa free, though think it's 240hr now?>realize I could have just done Taiwan and had 90% of the experience with 100% less of the headacheI get it doesn't have everything China does but you can essentially knock out the full countries nature scenery in 2-3 weeks, maybe less depending on how fit you are. Not to mention people are "slightly" more civil.
>>2895871For me Taiwan is also way better than China but they're totally different countries. Taiwan is the same as Korea and Japan. Only thing it has in common with China is spoken language. Also China has two weeks - one month visa free for most countries now and is aggressively marketing on tiktok so it's increasing in popularity
>>2895871That's like saying you visited the Eiffel Tower in Las Vegas so you have no reason to go to France. The draws of China are the nature and the history. Taiwan doesn't compare on either front.
>>2895871China and Taiwan aren't the same country, Taiwan is a good experience too but it's not the same as China
>>2896017Mainland Taiwan is the USA. Everything is plastic and fake and materialistic. Taiwan is real Ancient Chinese traditions and culture
>>2896061Yeah this is cope, actually
>>2896062nah if you know the history and the theory you will know the CCP is an illegitimate junta and commies destroy all culture they touch. I still like China for what it is but Taiwan #1 unironically
>>2896081You cannot experience the overwhelming majority of Chinese history from Taiwan, based off (lack of) access to physical locations alone. People do this handwavy bit about muh real folk traditions/religions because Taiwan has more temples or something, but it should go without saying that if you have any care for real, specific history of a place you'll get a lot more out of a trip to Henan or Shandong etc with locals who know the history and geography and speak the dialect. Not to mention zero non-local Chinese cuisine in Taiwan.
>>2896061Not really, the cultural revolution wasn't that effective. The only annoying part is the presence of a party bulletin board and slogans in every temple... Like they put a giant CCP anniversary plaque in front of the mogao caves, absolute third world behaviour>>2896086There's lots of food from the mainland in Taiwan because of 外省人 also they have good Japanese food so much better than the mainland
>>2896091>There's lots of food from the mainland in Taiwan because of 外省人No, there's really not. In name only sure there are "Shanghainese" "Wenzhounese" and even some "Sichuan" restaurants but they are all thoroughly altered for Taiwanese tastes. Other major regional foods like Xinjiang, Northeastern, Huaiyang, Lu, Guizhou, are totally absent
>>2896086Magic soil is a meme. Taiwanese people read Traditional Chinese and have open access to thousands of years of history. Mainlanders can only read Simplified, and every book that is legal has been vetted and rewritten to forcibly fit a communist lens. If you go to the library in China, they don't use a standard Dewey Decimal system. Instead, they divide the books into two categories: ones written after October 1, 1949 and ones written before it. The people there are browbeat with communist propaganda since the day they are born. They enter adulthood not knowing how to think or feel or be human. Their entire lives are as slaves within a panopticon, and through forced positive propaganda they are gaslit into thinking that they are alone in their suffering. I have friends all over East Asia and I know how they are. Everyone in Asia wears a mask towards different people to maintain a harmonious society. Nothing wrong with that. But Chinese people take it a step too far. They have been wearing a mask since they were born, and forced to act a certain way at gunpoint their whole lives. At some point, the actor's role as a character takes the place of the actor, and the mask becomes the face, and that is truly a terrifying sight to behold.
>>2896097I am making the opposite of a magic soil argument you idiot. "Magic soil" is when libtards claim Somalians and Guatemalans instantly become indistinguishable culturally and civically from White Americans the moment they enter the country. You sound like a mindraped diasporoid
>>2896104You're saying the people who live there know magically know the ancient traditions because they're on the soil, even though a lot of the ancient people fled to Taiwan for one, and for two the people there know are cockblocked from ever learning anything outside of state sanctioned propaganda. It's like if the UK switched their national language to Arabic and banned all English books and rewrote their entire history to fit a Muslim framework and banned any and all alternatives to it, even through the internet. In that case, the great literary works are preserved in the other anglo countries, and only the other anglo people can accurately retell UK history, because they have the documents and records and the UK doesn't.
>>2896094>Other major regional foods are totally absentGo on Google maps and search 新疆菜 东北菜 in Taipei lmao there's like 20+ results, they even have 河南烩面Also when you're in a place you should eat local food because non local is 80% of the time going to be either chain restaurants or altered to local tastes>>2896097>Mainlanders can only read simplified Not true, high school educated people can read but not write traditional
>>2896111I don't know what to tell you, I've sought out and been to all these restaurants, they are to their proper Mainland version what American Chinese food is to Chinese food. You can ask any Mainlander who's travelled to Taipei and they'll tell you the same thing.>>2896110>magically know the ancient traditionsYou are being a disingenuous cunt inserting the word 'magically' - people who grow up in a place inherit the ways and learn local history naturally there is no 'magic' needed. As for ancient traditions, give me a break, what 'ancient traditions' do the average Taipei youth engage in? And 'ancient traditions' are just a component of history. The idea that I could learn more about the history of, say, Shandong province by visiting Taiwan than by visiting Shandong is farcical>a lot of the ancient people fled to Taiwanok you are a genuine retard>It's like if the UK switched to ArabicActually, it's nothing like that. Also see above comment (you are a genuine retard)
>>2896117>You are being a disingenuous cunt inserting the word 'magically' - people who grow up in a place inherit the ways and learn local history naturally there is no 'magic' needed. As for ancient traditions, give me a break, what 'ancient traditions' do the average Taipei youth engage in? And 'ancient traditions' are just a component of history. The idea that I could learn more about the history of, say, Shandong province by visiting Taiwan than by visiting Shandong is farcicalMaybe in your African tribe culture is transmitted orally, but for most civilizations, ever since the invention of books, culture is recorded in text. Did you know that? Commies burned all the books and banned everything they don't like. A Taiwanese person can read all of them, a mainlander can only read about things that don't contradict Marxism, which is very limited>ok you are a genuine retardSorry I made a mistake. Taiwanese people fell from the sky. Or they swam there from Sri Lanka or whatever oogah boogah bs you believe>Actually, it's nothing like that. It's exactly like that. Nigger.
>>2896123>Taiwanese people fell from the skyPoint being you say 'a lot of the ancient ppl fled to Taiwan' as if 100x more of the ancient ppl didn't stay put in Mainland>It's exactly like thatMainland China did not switch to a foreign language or culture. It had an entirely characteristic spaz out while switching from one flavor of totalitarian bureaucratic state to another.
>>2896123Destroying/altering historical records and propagandized teaching are not new or unique to Communist China. Acting like that alone can "erase history" and create a blank-slate people is the most magical thinking of anything said in this thread.
>>2896125Ancient and traditional people are poor and didn't have the money nor awareness to flee to Taiwan The people who fled to Taiwan and Hong Kong were 90% rich westernised elites, and some Fujianese and Guangdongese rich peasantsAlso any Xinjiang food outside of Xinjiang is going to be meh etc, anyway I don't think it's fair to consider Taiwan a Chinese province with worse food, it's a completely different experience from the mainland and should be evaluated separately
>>2896138>it's a completely different experience from the mainland and should be evaluated separatelyYes I agree, the only reason I bring it up is because if we're going to force comparison and someone's saying "just go to Taiwan, it's the real China", food is up there with nature and history in terms of things you really miss out on by not going to Mainland.
>>2896086>muh real folk traditions/religions because Taiwan has more temples or something,This is true though. Temples in China are more like museums while temples in Taiwan are vibrant. Taiwanese are always burning things too. I saw a bit of that in Xi'an on Zhongyuan but less than a regular day in Taipei. And no processions.Caveats: I was in the north, so maybe Fujian would be less different, and I'm not sure if young Taiwanese are continuing religious traditions. Generally older crowd at temples.
>>2896173I'm not saying that that specific thing isn't true (although it is really region dependent, if you think eg rural Guangdong doesn't have preserved folk traditions you're clueless), but that it's just one aspect of the place and it's presence or absence doesn't mean one place is or isn't "real" or does/doesn't "have history".
>>2896173That's just one aspect. If you talk to the people you will see how retarded mainlanders are about their own country. So much tapdancing and tiptoeing around basic info
>>2896196Were the conversations you had with these Mainlanders that made you determine they were "retarded about their own country" in Chinese and about actual historical topics, or were they passing English gotchas about bs like Tiananmen Square?
>>2896203You're glowing.
>>2896205Between nonsensically saying I'm glowing (did you mean to call me an Wumao) and the incorrect use of Magic Soil I'm thinking you might want to "lurk moar"
Taiwan's oldest buildings are 400 years old.
>>2896211muh magic buildings
Bots triggered by the China and Taiwan keywords
>>2894997it's possibly some of the best /out/ you'll find in Asia
>>2896061Cringe Taiwan has some amazing shitAs does the US not that I think about itYou're just a massive faggot
>>2896061I think you meant to post this on plebbit. This is a board for people who actually travel. Not people who watch serpentza videos and are afraid to go to nice places.
>>2896097>The people there are browbeat with propaganda since the day they are born. They enter adulthood not knowing how to think or feel or be human. Their entire lives are as slaves within a panopticon, and through forced positive propaganda they are gaslit into thinking that they are alone in their suffering.>Everyone wears a mask towards different people to maintain a harmonious society. People keep lying every step of the way and a mask is what you have to wear to participate in society or else you're ostracized.
>>2896017Taiwan at least has citizens that remind me of something human. China be like:>old people expect you to do their bidding at grocery stores or out in public for random thing>walking down the street, enjoy random people stopping, squeezing past you, letting their brats shit or puk on the sidewalk like it's normal>it's generic bait and switch 9001 when doing anything>regardless where you stay enjoy husband and wife fights at any hour of the day.>thank you or sorry does not exist>"wow anon can you help me with english? Oh you want me to help you with some things? hmmm not sure I understand not very good at it :(">quality of living is a suggestion more than a standard to be met>chinese under the age of 12 existing should be a crime against humanity>it's another "why doesn't elevator go up" when 15 of them try to cram in with you then expect you to get out>it's another "why aren't you helping me white man" episode>go to the store for something brand name, don't realize until close inspection you got some knockoff when you get home>chinese "weather"etc
>>2896261>giga commercialized mount emei>it's possibly some of the best /out/ you'll find in Asiakek what!?mount emei surely is coolbut the only /out/ feature it possesses is being outdoors (and even that can be prevented for 90% of the way up)it's an UNESCO heritage site and a chinese AAAAA attractionaccordingly, it is completely overrun at times and basically never emptythe only way to get some quite is by doing the ~2 day hike up / downbut that also Chinese (((hiking)))meaning you'll walk on paved paths and have shops in the sideit's more akin to a amusement park than actually being /out/
>>2897308to add to thisif you want to go /out/ and do actual hikes>Tiger Leaping Gorgeis possibly one of the most beautiful hikes in the worldtakes about 3 days for the longer route and is moderately difficult (no mountaineering)other regions>Western Sichuan Tourist LoopYading is mindblowingalso the better alternative to Tibet because no government controls>Li River>Yellow Mountains>Yubeng>Kanasall have some actual hiking aroundnot necessarily better, well, depends on what you want, but better hikes with actual wilderness around
>>2897308>nooo it's not real /out/ Go fucking back to your shithole filled with homeless schizos and literal retards arguing about gearA full trip up and down Emei is amazing. Schezuan province has unreal alien landscapes.
>>2897308>Chinese AAAAANEVER use these as a measure of quality/how good something is to visit btw, it's a measure of how well maintained and accessible the attraction is and is directly correlated with hordes of tourists going there "because duhhh it's 5a"For example jiuzhaigou and huanglong, despite being pretty similar jiuzhaigou is 5a and thus attracts massive crowds while huanglong is significantly less crowded
