I've spent a lot of time in the country, Taiwan has amazing /out/ stuff, it's world class for such a small island. The mountain trails are comfy as fuck. There's multiday hikes but you need to go in the right season, otherwise stick to day hikes.
Eastern side of the island is empty and really nice.
The accommodation value is perfectly fine outside of Taipei too but all the coolest shit is there so it's a prisoners dilemma type thing. That would be my only criticism of the place, in winter I've frozen my ass off in 4 star hotels, asked cleaning staff for another blanket and they just replaced my sheet so I still was freezing lol

We spent three weeks between Seoul, Busan, and Gyeongju (recommended if you want to see some history and not just Hongdae and Itaewon).
