Why the fuck is it so expensive?
I feel like I'm getting ripped off just browsing the listings for lodging. I guess don't book the week before in summer, eh?

just dont book at all. there's nothing you can do to avoid american hotel prices

I mean I guess I could just stay in a motel I just really want a mini-freezer cuz I have a weird medical condition where I drink ice water 24/7 to keep cool. I tried finding motels with kitchenettes there was one over 200 a night "luxury" extended stay in Marquette (I'm trying to find 150 a night or less), and the other places had pictures of rooms with kitchenettes but when I went to book none were available online at least.

Seems like over towards Ironwood was less priced-out but still jesus. It's not as outright scammy as the Delaware Water Gap, the queen of scammy hilly lodging locations, the people seem relatively honest, but just either very very expensive basic cabins, huge cabins beyond my means, or old apartments that look shabby and uncomfortable.

I mean I guess I can try to get into camping but not in the hot hot summer. And not with all the skeeters they have, either. I just want a dang freezer. And laundry somewhere ideally, but I tend to book 2-3 different places in different areas.

Was it always this outrageous and scammy? Just since covid?

A lot of people cannot get leases because they've been debanked or have awful credit (almost always both). These people live in hotels, but they congregate in the cheap ones. No hotel owners, not even scammy jeets, want these people. So they use price as a barrier to get the customer base they want...not really a tough sell for any business owner.

This has led to a bifurcated hotel market between extended stay rooms with drug addicts at affordable rates and places you'd actually like to stay at outrageous rates. You can still find exceptions to this rule but they are rare and getting rarer.

Never heard of that
>Was it always this outrageous and scammy? Just since covid?
It was always ridiculous

How do people in that position in life even afford "cheap" hotels? Isn't cheap like $70 a night?

imagine a computer that's constantly overheating

>It was always ridiculous
:(
I wish it weren't this way. People want serious money for seriously outdated homes.
I put in a booking request for an apartment that had a good weekly special going. It's nowhere near the water, but it has central AC and laundry and the price is right. Let's see if the owner accepts.

Usually there's a discounted weekly rate. Its more expensive than a lease, but these people can cobble it together in a week's time by selling drugs or prostituting. Like I said, these people cant get leases.

There are a lot of people in America who have an easier time paying $400/week than they do $1,500 a month rent. That's how day-to-day they are living.
