>applied for my gold card visa>found out that you cannot get enrolled in the national insurance until you've lived in the country for SIX MONTHSfuck sake. maybe I understand a little, like they don't want someone getting instant health care access by getting the visa? or something? still annoying as fug. anyways... I had to submit some supplementary proof of my employer after I submitted my application. patiently waiting if it gets accepted.
>>2896613It's a fairly amazing deal for cost to value, I can understand they don't want people to abuse it. Plenty of people could just apply for a gold card instead of paying for healthcare at home>>2896605That bus is like 5 hours isn't it anon?I don't mind typhoon season but it can be damn humid some days
>>2896613>needing healthcareHow fat are you?>>2896589should add 591.com.tw and 4gtv.tv to OP
how bad is late september in terms of weather? Also is Taroko Park/Hualien worth the trip despite the main trails being closed?
>>2896621>How fat are you?you need health insurance no matter who or where you are retard>>2896617>t's a fairly amazing deal for cost to valueright yeah, but you still need to specifically qualify for it. it's not like it's a free handout. but you're right regardless since that's the reality
>>2896637>you need health insurance no matter who or where you are retardpick up some weights, fat boomer retard
>>2896589Here's what I say in every shitwan thread, DON'T FUCKING GO TO TAIWAN.It's the only place abroad I've been that I absolutely hated. It's a dump, it's ugly, the food is fucking awful, it's backwards and stuck 200 years in the past. The Taiwanese are all fucking thin skinned, two faced back stabbing cunts and it's far too hot and humid. There's nothing good about Taiwan. It died 20 years ago.
>>2896764yes, please keep preaching the message. less people in taiwan, the better
>>2896764>It's the only place abroad I've been that I absolutely hated. It's a dump, it's ugly, the food is fucking awful, it's backwards and stuck 200 years in the past. Whenever someone describes a country like this you know kino is on the menu>>2896771I don't go on there but according to ChatGPT Taiwan is the least discussed country on reddit's travel board
>>2896637>you need health insurance no matter who or where you are retardSo pay the couple hundred bucks for 6 months of travel insurance? Or simply pay the average 6mo out of pocket medical spend of...literally nothing for a healthy adult in the meantime

>>2896637I pay for the global health care insurance which covers anywhere but US and Canada. It's not much, 90 yuros a month.I've only made one claim and it was paid real quick. Seems a lot better than insurance in my home country.
>>2896621>https://www.4gtv.tv/What is this, Taiwanese social media site? I got my house off 591, its pretty good but need to expect some ghosting if you are a foreigner.
>>2896817Use dcard or ptt is local that thing sux
>>2896817Taiwanese TV
>>2896815>It's not much, 90 yuros a month.I spent 90 euros my whole life on healthcare. Then when I looked it up it was for something most insurances dont even cover.
>>2896825I travel a lot and earn enough so honestly don't care. It's nice to have the comfort knowing it's there and not worrying about things.Only called it in once and it was in Taiwan going to an international hospital here, amazing experience, all the staff were so good.
>>2896764lmao, where can I invest in this level of cope and seethe?
Taiwan's urban architecture tends to grimy dystopia, and the people are as aloof as Germans, but the coastal bluffs and green hills covered in primeval forest are so amazingly beautiful. Too bad I became a depressed anti-social alcoholic on my three week visit and never really explored the nature areas. The infrastructure is also very impressive, cutting through the extreme terrain with remarkably little environmental impact.
>>2896969>and the people are as aloof as Germans, lol not at all. everybody's friendly and has good vibes
>>2896969Taipei city even in the rich areas has some depressingly bad looking buildings. Its all the humidity that gives them that moldy black grime. Many are actually quite comfy inside despite the outside looking shit. I find New Taipei has much nicer newer buildings, and they're often in that gothic(?) grey stone style which doesn't get as affected, also more natural light
>>2896589>Scooters are god outside TaipeiBe aware that Taiwanese traffic "rules" are vastly different from those in sane countries. You WILL die if you think you can treat traffic like you would at home. You have to treat every car around you as if they are planning to attack you at any moment, because they absolutely will do that. Then they'll bitch at you while you're dying and sue your estate over the damage to their car that they caused.
>>2896589hello and thank you for this. I will be going to Taipei in 2 weeks for the weekend. I know it will be hot, humid and monsoon, but i've never been and i have a few days to spare. i just want to do some sightseeing around Taipei, eat some food and maybe go bar hopping solo at night. if anyone has any more recs and tips, please provide. I've never been, so im looking forward to it.
>>2897082A few things that aren't commonly put on the common todo lists that I really like: Dihua Street is really charming with a lot of interesting stores and chill vibes compared to many other areashttps://www.taiwanobsessed.com/dihua-stree-dadaocheng/Huashan Creative Park again has a lot of cool shit, but less stores and more arts, some live performers on weekends. Its across the road from the electronics suburb and Guang Hua also which is worth checking out, I like the few retro gaming stores, its a cool place regardless. https://redaroundtheworld.com/2016/07/09/huashan-creative-park/https://restofworld.org/2022/tech-markets-taipei-taiwan/
>>2896636It's still quite hot but you likely won't have any typhoon issues by then, late in the year is the best time for me. I haven't been to Taroko in a while but it's beautiful and certainly worth it imo. Think it's just the easy trails that are closed, Theres some higher effort ones open.
>>2896589When do people start talking about tight Taiwanese teens? Is everyone on /trv/ a ball-less eunuch roach?
>>2897092This is a wholesome general that sort of stuff doesn't happen here.
>>2897090thanks for the heads up, I've looked at it more carefully and apparently the only properly open trail is the one that goes to Dali and Datong, it looks like it's a cute enough trail but it doesn't even go into the gorge so I'll ponder on it a bit. It's not a trivial hike, I could technically do it as a day trip from Taipei but since just getting there would take at least 3 hours it would be a pretty rushed visit... sleeping one night in a hotel while having your shit in another hotel room that you got for a longer stay isn't a problem, right? I've never done such a thing
>>2897072That's what I feel as well. Strolling through the central regions of Taipei is a surreal experience. There are modern, polished buildings surrounded by wretched blocks of concrete that look like they were transplanted from an former soviet state, there's also the ever-present scooters
>>2897126When I took their metro out of central (towards the airport) - I felt like I was in a completely different place. Both the roads and pedestrian walkways are wider. The buildings seem planned instead of haphazardly shoved together, and heck even the weather seem to be better. This is a random photo taken at a park near the Mitsui Outlet
>>2897127>heck even the weather seem to be betterTaipei has its own micro weather probably due to the river and mountains surrounding it. During winter, I've gone through several Januaries where the sun refused to come out at all for the entire month, almost UK like weather. Drive south for an hour or two and you get sort of San Francisco sunny and cool during the day and cold enough for a hoodie at night.
>>2897127This is how a typical slum in a tier 5 chinese city looks.
>>2897082Do some hiking. There's heaps of great trails in and around the city. My personal favourite is Teapot Mountain.>>2897128Keelung is even worse, I hear>>2896636Hualien itself is nice. I am also fond of the southern Hualien countryside, if you can find the time. Not a huge amount of things to do other than hot springs but it's got a very pleasant landscape
>>2897158Also how did this thread get 30 replies in a few days it's usually about 2 a week
>>2896901Go to Taiwan, live there a few years, then you'll have it.
>>2897158> hikingthanks, but im not poor nor gay.

I guess I will need to mail in my documents which I absolutely hate doingI guess there is no rush since I don't mind waiting for the summer heat to subside but I get so uppity at wanting the process to be done and my visa card issued
>>2897580Cant you just fly in on a tourist visa and get it done locally? Forget if thats possible, thought there was even a question on the form if you are already in the country or not.>>2897500Hiking groups are legit the best way to meet women, undoubtedly a fat incel would call it gay though>talk the entire time>don't have to deal with the men always winning like other sports groups >literally just walking>the implication
>>2897721>the implicationthat you're a beta cuck that needs to climb a whole mountain just as an excuse to talk to women
>>2897726>to climb a whole mountainthe fact that to you it sounds like some daunting task and not like a pleasurable activity is very telling
>>2897741the fact that you are trapezing up and down cliffs just to avoid putting your dick on the table is very telling
>>2897789Each to their own but hiking is an enjoyable reset in nature and Taiwan has some of excellent trails, especially within easy reach of Taipei, can literally catch the mrt to the end of a few different lines and go straight up a mountain. Pic rel is Yinhe cave trail, at the end of Maokong gondolaHIking is good for the soul, unlike rageposting on a Uzbekistani yurt making forum.

>>2898417Accounting principles decrease value of house with age linearly
Because I don't speak moonrunesI don't get it? How the fuck is someone buying an apartment in Daan at 31? $80k a year is considered a high wage in Taiwan. You're looking at easily $1.5M USD to live in a shit old moldy building in Da'an. All to save 20 minutes commute from Sanchong where you would have a nice new building with a gym for the same price. I've noticed most younger people who work tend to live further out, even the wealthier ones. There's way more old people in Taipei city who are sitting on massive housing gains.
>>2897016Friendly sure, but they're very bookish and quiet.
>>2898829>>2898492>I've noticed most younger people who work tend to live further out, even the wealthier ones. >>2897016I've noticed they are very socially passive; they don't show any overt interest in talking to a foreigner, but they still engage with you when you do hit them up. I'm not going to impose my company on somebody who is shy and quiet, unlike some other shameless anons ITT who have discovered that through mastery of Chinese and force of personality they can bend others to their will quite easily.
>>2899239>through mastery of Chinese and force of personality they can bend others to their will quite easily.no you cant. they are still capable of saying no or rejection
>>2899239I think you're conflating "bending their will" with genuine interest if the foreigner is attractive or speaks their language. the same way you'd probably be willing with changing your plans to spend time with a cute japanese girl who is in your hometown and wants to hang out- or in your terms, bending your will.
>>2897092people who stay in tw long term are sexless nerds.
>>2899287You incels are obsessed with sex
>>2899228I spent significant time in both countries and random Jap suburbs outside of cities have a cool vibe to them, there's always some random corner restaurant/bar full of boomers til midnight during the week and the owner lives upstairsMany suburbs in Taiwan are quite depressing in comparison>>2899239what the fuck are you on about you utter retard>>2899287see above
I thought TW would be more like Japan. Probably a 5/10 Tainan and Taipei smelt bad - feel like all the instagram “come with me to this epic cool cafe” posts are super misleading, you might find a nice cafe/coffee but as soon as you walk out the door you’re back into the sewerage smell, there’s fat uncles and 100 year olds in wheelchairs just idling outside
>>2899864The smell really isn't as mentioned as it should be. Taiwan is the worst smelling place in Asia. Somehow even beyond India, which says a lot.
>>2899864>>2899868I noticed it in taipei but not in kaohsiung
>>2899869>kaohsiungDepends where you were, and when you travelled. I hope the rainy season flushes all that shit awayAt my first hotel in GaoXiong, I entered the lobby and was immediately punched in my stomach with an egg fart smell. The whole place would probably blow up with a few sparks.I had two thoughts. I can't bring a woman here and I hope I'm on the top floor. My 3rd floor room smelled horrible. I sat on the bed thinking of the $400 I paid for a week stay. I went down with all my stuff and asked to terminate my stay and got a refund after the staff called booking.com.I was expecting a fresh air moment on the hiking trails but they mostly smelled of monkey shit, which is a lot like a backyard full of dog shitIn winter, the best smelling place was TaiBei. TaiZhong was ok at first, but after 2 days it started striking me on every walk.It was impossible to enjoy moments outside sometimes.Idk how the locals stand it. I never smelled that in Okinawa or Vietnam. Taiwanese are sewerletsIn past threads, anons tried gaslighting me about this
>>2899913>I had two thoughts. I can't bring a woman here and I hope I'm on the top floor. My 3rd floor room smelled horrible. I sat on the bed thinking of the $400 I paid for a week stay.paypig got raped kwab
>>2899864>>Taiwan would be more like JapanWho the hell sold you that? Watch one of their tourism promotion videos. Pick up a brochure at your local travel agent. If you've never been to Taiwan, anyone outside of Asia's first impression would be: "oh so it's like Hong Kong?"
>>2899914keep reading
>>2899916Taiwan is just better Japan. Better weather, hotter women, better mountains, less chinks and jeets and redditors. >>2899920Taiwanese women are genuinely better looking compared to Japan. Its a massive difference, I don't get why lads obsess over Japanese women, they aren't even close on average, it's not even the same league.
>>2900221>Its a massive difference, I don't get why lads obsess over Japanese women, they aren't even close on average, it's not even the same league.Redditors get their opinions from anime and porn instead of real life. In Japan, Korea, and China a much larger percentage of girls are straight up ugly, in Taiwan this percentage is very low IME
>>2900221>>2900230There are some guys who genuinely love the look of SEAmonkeys and they'll say absurd things like >filipinas are the most beautiful, loving people in the worldTaiwanese are the closest to SEAmonkeys in all of East Asia, so for you guys who like girls with weird noses and bizarre facial and body proportions, Taiwanese girls are probably the most beautiful in Asia outside of the balding ladyboys in Pattaya. But every girl deserves to be loved so more power to you.
>>2900236The only girls in taiwan who look like seamonkeys are actual seamonkeys, from vietnam, philippines, indonesia etc, of which there are numerous. You would know this if you weren't a scared beta weakling too terrified to talk to girls
>>2900221In a massive city like Tokyo you'd expect to come across a beautiful woman every two minutes but in reality I only saw a few a day, it was depressing. China was noticeably better in this regard but still much worse than anywhere in Europe, I expect Taiwan to be similar for obvious reasons. I really don't understand yellow fever fags, maybe their experience with asian women is limited to seeing them on the internet through several layers of makeup and filters
>>2900245People who like ugly girls always resort to the>y-y-y-y-you're just too scared to talk to girls! No. Nobody wants the girls you like. And that's fine. Ugly girls deserve love too.
>>2900247you sound like you're coping with crimson chin gooks or buck toothed japs. whatever dude i slop with all of it too>>2900246china is better than japan but taiwan is better than china
>>2900252good to know since it's my next travel destination, not that I'm a whoremonger or anything but just seeing pretty ladies around makes everything a bit more pleasant
>>2900246For a city of 30 million people the lack of talent is actually disconcerting. Some of them slap on a lot of makeup and wear cute outfits but that's about it. Taiwanese women have proper proportions and can float around wear tracksuits like bums while looking good any day of the week
If anyone is looking for a decent hiphop club I would suggest RUFF in Xinyi. I was outside the famimart befriending two drunk guys who decided to go. Thank god I did because they were about to "Laowei, table only!" until I said I was walking in with them two. The cover charge was steep (600ntd) but I swear to god they wanted me fucking smashed because they handed me 6 drink tickets (250-330 a drink otherwise) and then the girl I brought in with me they gave here between 3 and 6 tickets I think. They paid me to drink. Too bad they are a little aggressive inside pushing people hard and shit. >>2900280Taiwanese girls are pretty because they follow normal western beauty standards.
>>2900283500 ntd min charge is normal these days in bars these days isn't it? Taiwanese don't drink much so they sit there with one beer for hours and as such the spend amount keeps getting bumpedXinyi clubs go even higher with minimum spend though they generally have hot women on staff so you put up with it even for a quick beer or two
>>2897159BotsThey're spreading to hobby boards now
>>2900283>Taiwanese girls are pretty because they follow normal western beauty standards.nah they look good because they don't have a history of inbreeding, they don't cake on 40 layers of clown makeup, and they don't bog themselvesThe caking and bogging is what makes teenagers look like post-wall roastiesIf you want to see what asians look like when they follow western standards all you need to look at is singaporeans/asian americans for how shitty it turns out>>2900323no it's because i'm an active poster and i'm living here now

>>2900325Most people would also agree girls from Singapore/Asian americans are beautiful. The ABG makeup style is the same in Taiwan. An additional point Taiwan gets though is I think the Japanese mixture that has been sprinkled about because girls did have rather large breasts and thats not common in the Hokkein people.
>>2900511Something they won't tell you is all the girls getting knocked up on purpose and then having abortions to grow out more. That's why Taiwanese women have bigger busts, serious. It's definitely a thing here.

>>2900553You can be pedantic and go hurr durr actually one girl I saw looked like that so you're wrong but anyone capable of basic observation and honesty would conclude that the ABG look is - in all of East Asia - not aligned with local beauty standards and extremely uncommon among locals

I have three free days in Taipei (or anywhere accessible via daytrips I guess) at the beginning of September, anything in particular I should make sure to check out? I don't really know much about Taiwan aside from a bit of general history, I'll read through some of the threads as well but I figure it's better to ask just in case in the meanwhile too.
>>2900758Paypig spammer taking the bit to new heights. Now paying for high speed rail instead of the BUS is overpaying for the "same thing". Bravo!
I lurked on this board a little bit and watched some travel vlogsDecided to buy a plane ticket but feeling some buyers remorse at the momentIt’s my first time saving some money and first time traveling solo for a month, especially this far from my home country Some of my Chinese friends said the food in Taiwan is bland compared to the mainland and that cities like Chengdu and chongqing are way better to visitTo mee it seemed most of those mainland cities missed soul, for lack of a better word. In a way like Dubai and Abu Dhabi don’t attract me at allPlease anons could you reassure me
>>2900930Taipei is a great place. The food is worse than mainland but its not bad and it has plenty of great stuff in its own right. I have lived in both places and Taipei is still my favorite city in the world. China is a great place to travel as well and for the most part is not soulless at least in any way comparable to Abu Dhabi/Dubai but anyway you definitely can't go wrong with Taiwan
>>2900932Thanks for replyingWhat’s the ideal split visiting the country? I was thinking of doing a week in Taipei and the rest of the month exploring the countryside and a few other cities
>>2900939I am a Taipei guy so others may be better suited to answer this Q for you. If you prefer countryside to cities your plan is probably great. If you like cities I found other major cities in Taiwan to be underwhelming vs Taipei and not worth repeat visit
>>2900901There are baseball games at the taipei dome for most of those first few days of septebmer if you want to see something different. Otherwise the typical tourist spots apply as advice
>>2900930One month? That's a large chunk of time to be anywhere. Even if you love the place, you need down time Whether you feel you've gotten your money's worth is something only time will tell. All I can say is Taiwan in general has decent infrastructure, it's pretty safe and crime rates decently low so you can explore as you like. >>ChengduWell of course they're going find Taiwan food bland, the question is: which food isn't bland for them except their own? Chengdu is also the Castro Street of China, so it's certainly a better place to be depending how you swing
>>2900901Chances are the climate will be hot and humid. Unless you're really motivated to take a trip to Jiufen or something, you may as well use the short three days to sample Taipei itself and decide whether you're keen for a more extended tour another time
>>2900930>Some of my Chinese friends said the food in Taiwan is bland compared to the mainland and that cities like Chengdu and chongqing are way better to visit>To mee it seemed most of those mainland cities missed soul, for lack of a better word. In a way like Dubai and Abu Dhabi don’t attract me at all>Please anons could you reassure meI was in Chengdu for two weeks this year, and I thought it was good. I like Taiwan better but Chengdu has some nice qualities. The people are as laid back as it gets for mainlanders, but they're still mainlanders and have all of the neurodivergent autistic baggage that mainlanders carry. Taiwanese people are more human and relatable. The lack of soul in Muslim and Communist countries comes from the complete deletion of spontaneity, a key part of the human soul.Chongqing is good to get a picture at night and Chengdu has some famous meme foods (and pandas), but day to day in Taiwan is more fulfilling. I've been here for a month now and don't want to leave. A month is enough time to actually have friendships and relationships with people. A month is good for Taiwan but much too long for any one city on the mainland.
>>2901031Games all this month tooBlew my mind finding out you can just buy tickets at the ibon machines in 7/11 rather than messing with online, so amazing.>>2901059I wouldn't call it bland but there's definitely nowhere near as much oil or sugar pumped into it. Is a lot more healthy, thus I guess bland. The lack of spicy food annoys me though. Hot pot I guess, not sure if anyone else has good recommendations? I go to a Thai place for heat now. >>2901091> Taiwanese people are more human and relatable. This is incredibly true. I've been to every country in Asia except Koreas and Burma Taiwanese people are very friendly, maybe not some of the older people but thats just grumpy boomers like everywhere on earth. Found it very easy to make friends with locals compared to elsewhere across the planet, even my own country.
what's the opinion on Taipei specifically from Janurary->March? TL;DR>need somewhere with my gym (Anytime)>would like to see it in not swampass levels of heat for once>budget about ~600/mo for rent, know some places in Ximen all utils includedRealized Chinese newyear is then and not sure how much that fucks things up. I did enjoy a stay there but it was summer and fuck it was baking in humidity making any hike trails dogshit
>>2901485the last place I saw an Anytime was in India and you dont want to hear it but its perfect for everything you complain about. Calling an AYCE buffet a tourist trap is retarded. 99% of customers are locals. Those buffets fucking rock as well. ~1000 to eat endless plates of sashimi and grilled meats is awesome. I've traveled to Taiwan three times, but all pretty short (11, 7, and 9 nights). I've stayed in Taipei, Hsinchu, Taichung, and Tainan - day tripped to some other things nearby. Haven't yet been to the east coast or the interior of the island. I'm starting to do some long term planning for next summer and I wanted to do a long stay (~30 days). My main goal is to cycle the west coast from Taipei to Kaohsiung. That's not going to take the entire 30 days, I also want to see the east coast. I speak intermediate Mandarin (but I learned simplified characters, so my reading/writing in Taiwan is poor). I have a few questions for the experienced Taiwan travelers/immigrants,1. I've biked parts of Taiwan exclusively using Youbike. They're okay for short travel; I think the farthest I've gone on one is 30 miles. They're not suited for carrying stuff with me. I've heard Giant has bicycle rentals, how are they? Or is there an alternative?2. The amount of stuff I need for 30 days is more than what I can carry on a bicycle. In my mind, the actual bicycling would only take up around 7 days. (approximately 275 miles from 台北 to 高雄, that's around 40 miles per day on average) I would like to hop a little bit, doing 2-3 days of cycling in a row before staying in a city for a few nights. What's the best way to handle luggage in Taiwan? I can carry a couple of days of supplied in the bike cargo bags. Are there luggage delivery+storage services, or do I say fuck it and get a place in advance before backtracking to rent a bicycle and make my way there?3. That part of the trip would be the first 15 days or so. Afterwards, I would take a train and visit the interior/east coast. The main spots I've heard about are Yilan, Hualien, Taitung, and Kenting. I definitely want to visit Yilan, but which of the remaining three are worth the visit? Are there any other east coasts towns I'm missing?4. Is Sun Moon lake a tourist nightmare in late May?
>>2903162I don't know about Giant rentals but they're obviously going to be decent bikes. For ease it's probably worth it, if this is at the start of your trip and you have a week maybe just buy a second hand one off fb and sell it again. Luggage there's places like boxable(?) which will pick it up and store it for you then bring it back, but think it's a month min you have to pay for.Other diy luggage places like at stations usually have a maximum of a week, I had this same issue and messaged a few, one said they'd take it for longer if I showed ID and came in business hours, but ended up leaving it with my hotel and paying them for it instead, they were a bit weird at first but was ok
>>2903164To continue: I would have used boxable also but their booking system means you need to let them know 2-4 days in advance. It's not on demand or anything. If you are getting it returned somewhere else it's another fee too, has to be to the same place. This is why I ended up just hitting up the hotel to do it for me
>>2903162I know a guy who biked from Taipei to Kaohsiung. He said he bought his bike for $150 off of fb marketplace. He brings it inside his hostel, most places have parking for it or let you bring it inside. If you speak chinese you can also use local shit like carousell or ruten or whatever message boards they have for bikesIf I was you I'd buy a bike used my first or second day, and I wouldn't book in advance. When I wanted to get rid of it I would take a few days selling it, failing that I would trade it in somewhereI went to Hualien before but I was unimpressed. Taiwanese people are impressed by it and its one of the main travel destinations they talk about it so would probably recommend it though
>>2903164>>2903165>>2903188Do hotels generally have places to lock a bicycle? I've stayed in half a dozen in Taiwan, but never looked or asked.Do you mean boxful? The self-service lockers seem like that could be my ticket, but their other services wouldn't fit my need. Unfortunately it seems their lockers are only in Taipei. For the bicycle, I think I'll try to look online for second hand in advance. If I reach Taiwan and still haven't secured a bicycle, then I'll resort to Giant. Their bicycles look like good quality but a little expensive. So many local Taiwanese have recommended me Hualien when I've visited. But at the same time, I have no idea what's there that puts it over the other east coast destinations.
>>2903225>Do hotels generally have places to lock a bicycle? I've stayed in half a dozen in Taiwan, but never looked or asked.bring it in the lobby>So many local Taiwanese have recommended me Hualien when I've visited. But at the same time, I have no idea what's there that puts it over the other east coast destinations. It's a meme place for them. If you are interested in checking boxes and impressing Taiwanese people, you should go. If you don't care about that, don't prioritize it
>>2903261>bring it in the lobbyOkay, maybe I'll ask ahead. Some of the hotels I've stayed in I could see that being allowed, but I've also stayed in some business traveler type places (despite not being a business traveler). >checking boxes and impressing Taiwanese peopleDon't care about the first, and speaking more than a handful of Chinese words is enough to impress the average Taiwanese outside of Taipei.
>>2903225>Do you mean boxful?Ahh yeah that's the one haha, I messed up the name. Didn't realize they had self service lockers now, must be a new thing. I'm more impressed you did 30 miles on a youbike, most are in good condition but it can be luck of the draw and some are in rough working order, plus its a 3 gear thing. You're meant to turn the seat backwards for ones that need a service and they get it to a repair shop within 12 hours but most Taiwanese don't seem to care.>>2903225It's Taiwan, you can literally leave it on the street without a chain and no one will touch it. There's public bike racks everywhere
>>290326630 miles on the Youbike was alright. Again, they suck to carry anything with you. That little basket in the front isn't good. But I did a total of 75 miles on Youbikes on my last trip, spread over several rides. Those were mostly test runs for feeling out biking in Taiwan in general. I felt (mostly) safe and confident about Taiwanese bicycle laws. Sometimes the intersections were a bit tricky and high volumes of motorbikes were frustrating. I got a dud once but changed it out at the next station.
>>2903268you need pannier bags for any sort of real weightI've carried embarrassingly large things on a youbike, with enough weight up high on the front wheel it turns you into a bumbling idiot
>>2903268Only longish trips I've done are along the riverThrough the city early morning is really cool but during the day it feels a bit too slow, so many traffic lights
>>2900723>had one girl get upset for condomDo they also get mad if you dont nut inside them? Or are they expecting u to pullout?>>2900727>scared of HIVOne day you may realize HIV is real low risk for normal sex. Its homo sex where it becomes a concern

>>2903321>Do they also get mad if you dont nut inside them? Or are they expecting u to pullout?it's really case by case. Some girls will insist on a condom, some won't
>>2903349In my experience, entirely age based. Younger Taiwanese and Mainlander girls may or may not want a condom, but would definitely get offended if you ask about testing. Older women will absolutely insist on using the condom.
I liked Hualien when I was there, the food was tasty and it was a chill vibe. I was with my ex who could drive me around on her scooter though.. Anyone have any experience with biking Route 1? I'm thinking about doing it in October
>>2903496I've never been but is that literally the entire city lmao? Ocean and mountains is fucking cool though, has Hawaii type vibes
Hualien was fairly dull. I booked 7 nights and went back to Taipei after 5. I was bored after 2 night and would just sit around in cafes, go for bike rides, to the gym, and walk near the mountains (Lots of creepy rednecks there. The village retard wanted to shake my hand but he was extremely dirty and I kept walking. The people there looked homeless and gross)I met a girl at a kino bar that sat maybe 8 people. It was in a residential neighbourhood and wasn't on google maps.what else... met a dude from Japan who swam in those riverbed pools at the base of the mountains. He drove me out of the homeless camp in his vintage Volvothe airbase was neat to watch from atop the mountain with binoculars, I guess. No nice beaches there. Horrible food options. Lots of grease. Restaurants don't open until 11am.Didn't smell too bad, compared to gaoxiong or taizhong (fuck wade giles what a horrible way to spell)The natives did not find it cool that I didn't love their smelly island. I didn't tell them, but they could sense it wasn't a green pasture in my eyes.
