I walked out of LAX at 2:45 AM, covering 3 miles to the beach behind the airport. It felt good to be on the move after 16 hours of flying and 4 hours of loitering in the arrivals area. Quite a few people were on the roads. Tolerance and inclusion is the city's culture. Do your thing, even if it's walking on the beach with your luggage at the crack of dawn. Nobody's gonna start trouble with you because of who you are. Feels pretty safe desu.
WiFi here is easily 10x faster than anything I used in Asia. Of course, a bunk isn't cheap. I paid $42 at a hostel in downtoen Santa Monica, and they let me check in at 9 AM for a lovely morning nap. 10 miles of walking across pleasant coastal communities to get here, the longest I've ever carried my bags on a single trip leg. Yes, there are also city buses, but I wanted to make my own way across the landscape. So quiet, you'd never know this was le heckin big city.
A friendly Sri Lankan woman chatted at length with me. On the way here, a Hispanic cutie smiled and then turned away shyly as we crossed paths. Other hostel visitors seem awkward, like they prefer not to be dragged into conversation. East Asian guys on the street seem to lack confidence outside of their friend group. America with all its big colorful characters must be a little uncomfortable for them. Traveling India and talking with many strangers has given me easy confidence, but only when they approach first. There was a comedy event here, but everyone was sober, and the eight comedians kept losing their train of humor. One beautiful girl next to the podium paid close attention but didn't crack a smile the whole event. I think her snobbishness psyched out the guys. The fit white girls of LA are extremely snobbish, unless you're a handsome Chad (black or otherwise). You're not even worthy of being noticed as a human being in their eyes. Doesn't bother me, because I would never think of dating a $20-smoothie-drinking, fitness attire wearing LA white girl.Starlux Airlines gets an A+. Easily the best-run airline I've flown yet, for a reasonable airfare too.

The coastal vegetation scent produces a natural high, I swear. Of course it won't last if you stick around to face the economic realities of living in this hugely overpriced place as a low-paid, low-SMV white man. A fleeting visit is best for enjoying the SoCal coast as one of the crowning achievements of Anglo-Judaic civilization. Being without a car feels pretty good though, it's no wonder the bums all flock here to chill out and "vibe" whatever they're feeling. Less appealing for vanlife, however. Parking fees are awful here, there is zero shade in the lots, and crackdowns on car sleeping are prevalent. The hostel will also let me stay after checkout to cook some lunch before departing on the Amtrak at 5 PM. Nice people. Leftist DEI sure feels good when you are part of the inclusive culture. You get what you pay for with this hostel, which costs half the price of a shitty motel room in the South LA ghetto. Very impressive kitchen and common areas, ultra soft beds, free tours and events. There's quite a few grumpy oldfags staying here. My dorm was all 21-35 year old guys. Nobody says a single word to each other inside the room. I escaped from LA on the Amtrak ride from hell. What a shitshow. Started off leaving my food behind in the hostel, had to jump off the bus and walk 2 miles back to get it, leaving me all sweaty for the ride. Then they called boarding prematurely, showed up with everyone else and no boarding staff were present. And then the big one, a flash flood in the fucking driest desert outside of Death Valley flooding the tracks and stopping traffic for 14 fucking hours. They gave us some free snacks and beef stew as a cope lolol. Took this pic on a hot desert night before everything went to hell. By the time I left the train, it was over 16 hours late and most of the toilets had quit flushing. With a mix of relief and worry I stepped out into the dry 95° sunshine of the midsummer high plains and arrived at my hotel exactly at 11 am checkout time. The manager was a kind slender white lady who approved the date change after I requested it through Booking.com, and also let me check in at 11:30 am. Now what? The whole country awaits. I think I will ride buses around the Colorado mountains, stop by my old job and pester them for my leftover stuff. A big fluffy blanket will be a game changer for sleeping rough on the cool mountain nights, though it will be a hassle to carry around in addition to everything else. This time of year is as mild as it ever gets in the Rockies.
